Mothwings' heart had been stuck in her throat, ever since she heard the news at the Gathering.

"Jayflight fell in love with Sleekstep," she repeated in her head. The only thing worse than that was what had come after.

"Sleekstep was ordered to be killed as a punishment. Jayflight leaped to save him and almost died trying. She failed."

"Sleekstep is dead. And Jayflight might die because of it."

"Oh, Ochreheart, why can't you be here to comfort me!?" Mothwings thought with despair. Then, almost on cue, a cat burst into the camp.

"MOTHWINGS!" He shouted. He was a brown blur, cascading towards her like a waterfall.

"OCHREHEART!" Mothwings exclaimed with joy. They hugged, not caring that the rest of the camp was staring at them like they were crazy. Then, Hawkfeather ran forward.

"Ochreheart! It's really you!" She joined the hug, and more cats realized what had happened and gathered around. Mothwings broke from the embrace and took a step back.

"I have so many things to tell you!" She said quickly.

"I have so many things to tell you!" He said, even faster.

"Let's discuss on a border patrol," she evaluated.

"Agreed," he replied. They quickly trotted to the exit of camp, leaving a trail of confused cats behind them, struggling to comprehend the quick events.

After they were a good distance from camp, Mothwings began.

"First and foremost, remember that cat that asked for Silverstar's help on the night of our vigil?"

"Yeah," Ochreheart said.

"Jayflight fell in love with him!"

"WHAT!?" Ochreheart exclaimed. Something wasn't right, though. Mothwings felt like he wasn't telling her something.

"Bayoustar, the leader of ShadowClan found out. He ordered to have Sleekstep killed!" This, Mothwings knew for sure that Ochreheart didn't know, because he produced a more genuine reaction.

"Oh no!" He exclaimed.

"Sleekstep was going to die, but Jayflight leaped to intercept the blow," Mothwings said. She continued as quickly as possible when Ochreheart's face was consumed by pure terror.

"Jayflight didn't die, but she was hurt badly. Sleekstep, however… the cats were determined to finish the job, and they did,"

"Oh…" Ochreheart murmured. They shared a few moments of silence, then Mothwings broke it.

"Now you must tell me what you did!" She exclaimed.

"Well, first… I… I ran away to the garden. It just became too much, you know?" There was that uncertainty again. What wasn't he telling her?

"When I fell asleep along the way, I had a weird dream. This cat named Bristlefrost told me I would find the key to saving RiverClan and ShadowClan from a terrible battle! He also told me that you, me, and Jayflight are the cats destined to save everyone!" Mothwings' eyes widened. Were they part of a prophecy?

"So, I went to the garden and met my friends, but I almost instantly regretted it with how they were acting. They were very dismissive of the ways of the clans and felt intitled to my friendship. All except for Daisy," he continued. She remembered him mentioning Daisy a couple times.

"I talked to Daisy the next day about my dream, and she said that she had a dream too! In her dream, the same cat, Bristlefrost, talked to her, and said that she possessed the key to stopping the horrible battle. I asked her about what she thought it was, and she said that the key is… love," Ochreheart trailed off with the last word. Mothwings was confused. The thing that would break two clans apart was the same thing that would reunite them?

"Anyway, after that I knew I had to come home as soon as possible, and now here I am!"

"Wow," Mothwings breathed. She had been given a lot of information but stopped processing suddenly when she remembered that she had left out a detail.

"Oh, and two sunrises after you left, rogues came to RiverClan and attacked us. Four were killed, although I'm glad the loss wasn't any worse," she said.

Ochreheart did not reply, instead he seemed to be processing something.

"Who was responsible for the rogue attack?" He said finally. Mothwings had not considered this before. They were thinking hard, then Mothwings spoke.

"We need to get Jayflight back," she burst out. "She knows more than we do."

...

"Silverstar?" Ochreheart asked from outside the leader's den.

"Yes?" He replied, then the leader emerged from inside the moss-lined tunnel.

"Jayflight is not in a good state right now. I propose we send another warrior in her place and take her back to RiverClan where she can be cared for," Mothwings continued. Luckily, all her prepared words had come out just right.

"Alright. I will send Gorsefur in her place," he replied after a pause. Both Ochreheart and Mothwings were surprised he accepted so quickly. "Please fetch him and escort him over."

"Thank you," Ochreheart said. They turned and headed to the warrior's den.

"Gorsefur?" Mothwings said. The white-dappled dark grey warrior was resting, staring at the wall.

"Yeah?" He replied, turning around and facing them.

"Silverstar wants you to take Jayflight's place at ShadowClan, since she's not doing so good right now," she continued.

"Yeah," he said again, standing up.

"We'll escort you," Ochreheart offered.

"Yeah," he said. He yawned and plodded to the entrance of the den, where Ochreheart and Mothwings were waiting.

"Is 'yeah' the only thing he says?" Ochreheart whispered.

"If he says 'yeah' when we get to ShadowClan, then yes," she whispered back.

...

"Bye, Gorsefur," Mothwings said as she, Ochreheart, and a half-dead Jayflight exited the ShadowClan camp.

"Yeah," he replied.

"My point stands. He only says 'yeah,'" Ochreheart said with a chuckle. Jayflight looked terrible, with a huge scar streaking across her torso and a sunken head and posture.

"Poor Jayflight… losing Sleekstep must've hit her so hard…" Mothwings thought sadly.

"Jayflight?" Ochreheart said directly. She mumbled in reply. "When we get back to RiverClan, we need to ask you some very important questions," he continued. She mumbled again. Ochreheart and Mothwings exchanged glances.

"Will she even be able to answer?" Mothwings thought with worry.
