Danny wasn't really one for parties, it wasn't really anything wrong with the idea of it. The problem for Danny was always the execution, especially after he accepted the title of the ghost king. His hearing had taken a larger increase, the smaller noise sometimes sound like a crash against his ear. He's learned and grown accustom to the change, but it stills stands an issue most of the time.
That didn't mean when Sam texted him about a party Brady invited them to, he refuted the offer. Sam wanted him there, and Danny could honestly use a break from studying. So, he took the offer. Probably not his best choice with mid-term just two weeks away, but Sam wanted him there and he could use a break. He was running a little late because of a later class, but it was a Friday, so a late night wouldn't be a bad thing.
Danny kind of wished he hadn't run late that night, he would have loved if he had managed to get there on time. When he walked in he caught the sounds a song he was pretty sure was by Nirvana, and he was handed a drink pretty faced. In his new heightened state, he learned that it took a lot more to get him drunk. Not that he really minded, these days the most he wanted to get was tipsy.
The same couldn't be said about Sam though.
Danny smile as he approached the group, but he was able to see the taller Winchester stumbling ever so slightly while still drinking from a red cup. The group was mostly just Jesse and Sam, he figured the others were there, just scattered about. Jesse greeted him while Sam basically pulled the other into a hug.
"I'm glad you could make it." Sam slurred slightly, his breath hitting Danny in the face. 'He needs to slow down.' Danny thought, wrapping an arm around the man's waist for support. If Danny was being honest, this is the most intoxicated he has ever seen Sam.
"Yea Danny, I'm happy you made it." Jesse smiled, tipping her cup towards him. "Tina, Rebecca, and Brady are somewhere out there." She informed, taking a sip. Danny nodded, taking a drink from his own. Tasted like a blue punch mixed with vodka, but it was hard to tell with all the sugar.
"Seems like you guys are having fun." Danny smiled, feelings Sam laugh vibrate through him. Jesse gave an apologetic smile and she motioned towards the drunken Sam.
"His easing up, drinking plain water." Jesse explain, Danny glanced towards the cup in Sam's hand, before landing on Sam's smiling face. A song came on, Danny wasn't sure who it was by but Jesse's face light-up when the beginning notes played. "I love this song! Come dance with me!" She motioned at Danny. He paused glancing back towards Sam.
"You'll be okay?"
"Of course, go, have fun!" Sam waved him off, pushing at his shoulder slightly. Danny offered Sam a concerned smile, before letting himself get pulled into the mess of bodies.
"I wouldn't have guess you had any rhythm, you should come out more often." Jess laughed as the two made their way back to where they left Sam. Danny shook his head, it was nice but these things just weren't really his thing.
"Sometimes, I'm not really one for parties." Danny said, the soft buzz of alcohol under his skin. Jess laughed, nodding her head. "It's nice sometimes though."
"Good, it's nice to have someone new join in on partying sometimes." She smiled, downing the rest of her drink. She paused, glancing between her cup and Danny's. "I'll get us new ones!" She called over the music, disappearing through the crowd. Danny shook his head with a smile, turning towards the the way they were headed.
"Whoa man, breathe." Danny's eyebrows furrowed when he walked towards the two. Brady was leaning over Sam, who was hunched over, a hand wrapped around his torso. "I didn't realize you're a light weight." Brady laughed, patting Sam's back.
"What happened?" Danny asked once he was close enough, he offered Sam a smile when he looked up. Brady chuckled, waving as Danny.
"Sam here had one too many." Brady laughed like it wasn't a big deal. In hind-sight it wasn't really that big of a deal considering Sam was surrounded by friends, but in all the times Danny and Sam drank together, he has not once seen Sam drink too much.
"Hey Sam, you good?" Danny asked, crouched slightly in front of Sam. The music still drummed loudly in his ears, but it was easier to focus on Sam with concerning bubbling through him.
"Yea... I...I'm good." He breathed heavily, a hand still wrapped around his waist. Danny looked up at Brady who shrugged, holding a hand up. Danny glanced behind him and saw two girls waving the man over.
"You can go Brady, I'll get Sam back to the dorms." Danny took Sam's other arm and placed it on his shoulder. "Let Jess know where we went."
"Uh, do you mind taking him to yours?" Brady nodded towards the two girls. Danny sighed, before nodding. He was pretty sure Riley wasn't going to be in tonight.
"Yea, okay." Danny nodded, helping Sam stand as best as he can with the height difference. "Let's get you in bed." Danny mumbled, struggling through the crowd of drunk college students.
"It's okay, let it out." Danny patted Sam's back as the man was hunched over. The ravenette's nose crinkled slightly as the smell of vomit hit him full swing. He glanced around which was mostly just filled with other stumble students minding their own business. If Danny's lucky, the dorm's RA would be out for the night.
"Sorry..." Sam mumbled, wiping the back of his mouth as he stood up. Danny gave him a once over, pretty glad that no vomit actually got on either of them. "I didn't... I didn't realize how much..."
"It's okay dude, seriously." Danny smiled, wrapping an arm around Sam's waist as they continued their was to the dorms which wasn't to far now. "You're a lot better than a lot of other people when they over do it." Sam let out a soft chuckle.
"I didn't try to... is just... ugh." Danny smiled sadly, he felt bad. He's only gotten this bad once, before he accepted Clockwork's offer. Riley was drinking it up in the dorm, and even though Danny was a little worried about getting caught, he decided why not. Didn't end pretty well, but Riley had been really nice about the whole thing.
"It's fine, we'll get you back to my room and get you in bed." Danny pulled open the buildings door and made his way towards the elevator. Sam was silent after that, aside from the occasional groan. Danny really hoped that the man wouldn't have to vomit again, cause he didn't not look forward to dumping the trash can into a toilet after. "Here we go." Danny placed Sam on his bed, where the man simply sat. Danny paused, trying to think of what to do next. He just kind of watched as Sam shoved off his shoes and pulled off his flannel.
"Feeling better?" Danny asked when Sam ran a hand through his hair. The taller offered him a shaky smile, nodding slightly.
"I think I got a good chunk out." Sam chuckled, pushing himself back up against the wall at the top of the bed. Danny settled on the edge of the bed in front of him. "I'm sorry, this probably isn't how you wanted to spend your night." Sam slurred slightly with his words, the other man shook his head.
"It's seriously okay, I'm just glad your okay." Danny responded, crossing his legs in from of him. There was a pause, just a moment, before Danny caught Sam's eyes. Unshed tears lined them, hurt and guilt swimming through them. "Sam?"
"I hurt him, I-I didn't want to... but I did, and that's bad enough." Danny's eyebrows furrowed, he wasn't sure what Sam was talking about but it was something that Sam seemed to really need to get off his chest. "Dean, I just... I need to leave. I couldn't live like that... I didn't want to leave him though, he's my brother. He looked so fucking hurt." Danny swallowed.
"I'm sure he knows that." Danny spoke, watching Sam shake his head. He's heart clenched, he didn't like seeing Sam like. Probably no more than when Sam has seen him like this.
"He probably does, but I can't... I can't tell him." A few tears slipped from Sam's eyes as he spoked. "When I left, dad... John, he said to never come back. I haven't talked to either of them since..."
Danny felt his mouth go dry, in his brief encounter with John he could have never guessed the man would say something like that to his own son. He seemed hardened, but nice when John met him... Then again Danny didn't know how John was on the day to day. And if he guessed the Hunter aspect right, the other man most definitely could have different priorities when it comes to his kids.
"Sam..." Danny trailed trying to think of the right words.
"I'm not surprised, I expected it..." Sam took in a shaky breath, Danny bit his lip to stop from interrupting him. Even though the other didn't really know what to say. "I just... Fuck, I miss them." Sam gave a bitter laugh, wiping at his face.
"You'll see them again, I know for damn sure Dean's just going to pop up one day." Danny spoke, laughing softly when Sam actually laughed at it. "You can't say I'm wrong."
"Yea, that sounds like Dean." Sam smiled, although Danny could still see the tears in Sam's eyes, he looked a little brighter. There was another pause, and Danny decided it was time he said something wise for once.
"Look Sam, I know you miss them, and it won't be easy to really get used to not having them around, but." Danny paused, offering Sam a smile. "You're making new friends and family every day, you don't ever have to be truly alone."
Danny tensed for a moment, before easy into the hug, feeling slight wetness where Sam had his head buried. Danny hugged him back, softly rubbing the other man's back. He honestly knew what it was like to just need to cry and let things out. He wasn't about to let Sam do that alone.
Danny wasn't really sure how they got here, okay he would be lying if he said he didn't completely know. Sam asked if he could stay with him, in the bed, and Danny agreed. That's how they got here, Danny being the little spoon while Sam nestled against his back. He didn't think much about it at the moment, brain still buzzed from the alcohol and wanting to keep Sam company.
It had been an innocent request, and it was still as innocent as when it was asked. Sam didn't seem like he wanted to be alone, simply asked if Danny could stay with him, on the bed. Of course, Danny agreed, he half expected them both to stay on their respective half of the bed. He can't say he was too upset when Sam curled up against his back. Sam had asked, quietly asking if it was okay. Danny didn't have a single objection to falling asleep cuddled against him.
Yet now it was morning, and Danny's brain short-circuited when he wake up to the strong arm wrapped around him, and soft steady beating against his back. This was something that he could get use to, waking up to a warm body snuggled against him. Although he had to remind himself that this wasn't what he wanted, Sam just needed company and it was solely platonic. He felt Sam stir behind him, and he held his breath as the other man seemed to fully awaken.
"I'm sorry Danny." Sam spoke from behind him, he's position didn't change, but his weight shifted slightly. Danny shook his head softly, turning to look over his shoulder where he met apologetic and guilty hazel eyes.
"It's okay." Danny smile, trying to convey to Sam just how okay all of it was. "Seriously Sam, it's okay." Sam hesitated for a moment, searching Danny's eyes before Danny watched the tense escape his body. He breathed a soft sighed when the weight pressed comfortably against him.
"We should get up." Sam spoke into his hair, and Danny paused. They probably should, but he felt so at ease, so at home, that he'd love to settle in the moment a little longer.
"Five more minutes?" Danny asked, offering the other a soft smile. Sam chuckled against him, before nodding slightly.
Danny's last thought before he fell asleep was if only this wasn't a one night thing.
