Sam was worried, not nearly as much as Danny was, but he was still just as worried. The student body were currently all waiting and anticipating the results of the mid-term exams. This usually took about a week after the actual exam was completed, which left almost everyone thrumming with anxiety. Mid-terms played a large role on whether or not you'd be passing your course this year. It's not always a make it or break it, but it had enough impact to have a say.

For Sam his main worry was if his scoring wasn't as well at it should be, he could lose his scholarship, his grades would take a drastic hit and would take a lot of work to bring back up. His concerns did of course spread towards Danny, he knew how much this mid-term was going to make and break the other man. He was there with Danny when the other man stressed and crammed in as much study time as he could before every one of his mid-terms.

Things didn't change much for them, that drunken night seemed to slip by like nothing happened. Sam was partly happy about that, while also being partly hoping that something might have come out of it. Even just a conversation that helped Sam get over his crush and move on. He could at least appreciate that the friendship wasn't tainted.

He wanted a relationship, he wanted to make Danny happy, and he knew that. Every since high school. That's part of the problem, Sam wasn't used to this. Yea, he's had girlfriends in the past, but none of his relationships ever really meant as much as Danny meant to him. He was also the first guy that Sam's ever liked. This was something different than usual, and he wasn't sure if he should risk his best friend over something like this.

Danny's able to ignore the cuddling, move on as if it never happened, it was just friends being friends. That's part of the reason Sam was so sure it was platonic, Danny didn't like him back. There was nothing wrong with platonic affection among friends right? A sigh left Sam, having time to form actual human connections was a bit taxing.

Aside from his internal turmoil when it comes to what his heart wants and what his mind says, things have settled well. That didn't mean things weren't tense, just for a different reason for once. Sam can only hope that things go well for everyone, their friends included. Not that he had much doubt when it came to his friends.

Aside from the mid-terms and feelings, things haven't been too stressful. Sam still found himself spaced out and looking at his old phone. He kept it charged and on, he couldn't risk missing an important call from Dean. Even if he wasn't by it if his brother ever called, he would at least see the notification when he did his daily check in at night.

He still felt the common ache of wanting to hear Dean's voice, or wake up to his music blasting instead of the sounds of bustling students in the dorm rooms. He even missed his dad, no matter how much they butt heads. He loved them both, and he'd absolutely hate himself if he found out either of them got seriously injured or died on a hunt, and he wasn't there.

The Winchester life was dangerous, but there used to be two people watching your back. Now it was just Dean and John, and even if Sam knew the two of them weren't easy to take down, a hunter's life was dangerous. A hunt could go wrong in so many ways, regardless of how good of a hunter someone was, they couldn't easily lose their life to the job. As much as it seemed safer to hunt with less people, it was smarter to have more people watching your back.

He couldn't go back though, not after that night. Not when he was finally finding himself, and his people. He was happy, even if emotions fluctuated, he was happy. He wouldn't wish to be anywhere but here. Even if he wished some people from his past were here to share this with him. He just needed to reminded himself that he needed to come first, he needed to do what was best for him.

Sam sighed softly, running a hand down his face.

"Look Sammy, I'm sure Danny did amazing!" Tina swatted the air as she spoke, giving Sam a smile. "The kid's a genius, even if he's not the best at books."

"I know, I know." Sam shook his head, glancing around the courtyard. "Results are already coming in, and I haven't heard from him. So I'm a little worried."

"I'm sure he's just a little overwhelmed with the passing scores!" Tina responded without a second thought. Sam smiled softly, sometimes he wished he could be as optimistic as Tina was. Even if her words made him feel a little better, he still felt the curl of anxiety throughout him.

He already received his scores, and overall they were pretty good. He had hoped for better, but they were all passing and none of them would take a toll on his final grade. Which was always good, but now with his own worries out of mind, his focus shifted to his best friend. He wasn't sure what he could do to make Danny feel better if the results came back poorly.

"Get out of your head!" Tina jumped in front of him, stopping Sam in his tracks. She grabbed him by the shoulders and leaned in a bit. "I would stay and yank you out from inside there, but sadly I am needed else where." Tina shook her head.

"It's okay, I'm fine." Sam smiled, only to receive a look of disbelief. "Besides, I'm not the one we should be worried about." Tina laughed suddenly, dropping her hands off of him.

"I swear, it's like you guys are already a couple." She laughed, halting Sam's words with a hand. "Hold that thought, if you open that can of worms, I'll be late!"

"Okay okay." Sam shook his head, trying to ignore the warm feeling blossoming across his cheeks. "Have fun, tell Kristy I say hi."

"I will!" Was the only words Tina called out from over her shoulder as she rushed off. Sam chuckled softly, shifting the weight of his bag.

He slipped his headphones in, continuing his walk back to the dorms. He tried to keep from overthinking things, and focus more so on the positive possible outcomes. It's not like he didn't believe in Danny, he did. However, he knew how much the other student was struggling lately with passing scores, and the knowledge of that alone was enough to cause him to worry. Not to mention the slightest fear that Danny ended up skipping out on a few of the midterms.

Even then he knows he should have more faith in Danny, the other man always seemed to pull through whenever it mattered most. Which meant Danny would have attended all his exams, and he would have gotten passing scores. But anxiety never listened to common sense anyways. Sam tried to shake the thoughts from his head as he got closer to his door, shifting his focus to search for his keys.

It was just when he located his keys, that he caught the sound of the running footsteps headed for him. He barely had time to catch a mess of black hair and blue eyes before the body jolted into him. To his surprise he felt his weight shift of his feet for a split second before the hug lessened in tightness. He laughed wrapping his arms around the smaller man.

"I'm guessing you got good news?" Sam asked, once they pulled back a bit, still held in each other's arms. Danny nodded, a grin stretched across his lips.

"I passed!" He responded, Sam could tell the man was thrumming with energy from the good news. That was enough to ease all his worrying, and get him just as happy for Danny. "I didn't think I would honestly, and I was already talking myself up for the failed results, and just bomb!" He let out in one breath.

"Congrats! I knew you would." Sam responded, feeling his heart flutter at the absolute happiness swimming in those blue eyes. There was a beat, just a moment of silence where they just looked into each other's eyes, letting the adrenaline seep out of them.

Then it happened.

He wasn't sure who leaned in, it could have been Danny or himself, but next thing he knew warm lips were pressed against his. Sam froze, brain pausing for just a moment as it tried to catch up with the fact that he was kissing his crush. Just as quickly as it came, it was gone. His vision focused on a worried looking Danny.

"Shit, I'm sorry. I just-" Sam cut him off, placing his hands gently against blushing cheeks and pulled him in for another kiss. It took a moment before the other man relaxed against him, lips moving in sync. Butterflies erupted in Sam's stomach the moment the other hugged him only intensified.

Sam never thought he'd had this moment, it was always fleeting thoughts. Always sure that the other never felt the same, but this. This cause a warmth to blossom through his chest, tingles ran from the top of his head down to the tips of his toes. It took a moment before the guilt settled in, pushing past the pleasant buzz settled through his veins. His mind fully caught up with what was happening, bringing forth the thread of things that can go very wrong.

"Sorry." Sam spoke, once he pulled away, his hands dropping to rest on Danny's shoulder. He's heart clenched at the confusion and slightly hurt look swimming in blue eyes. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that."

"No, fuck, I'm sorry." Danny rushed out, taking a step back away from his friend. Sam felt his stomach drop the moment Danny was out of reach. "I shouldn't have done that, it's okay." Danny shook his head, but Sam could read the guilt and sadness in those eyes. He was trying not to hurt the other man, but he still managed to that."

"No, Danny it's not like that." Sam spoke, trying to salvage the situation. He paused, trying to pick out the best words to phrase things without making people feel like it's his fault. "There's just a lot going on right now, and-"

"It's fine, Sam... I, uh, I get it." Danny swallowed, adjusting the bag against his shoulder. Sam held back a wince at the realization that the man was starting to close off again. This isn't what he wanted, this isn't it.

"It's not, can we just, can we talk about this?" Sam asked, motioning towards his dorm door, keys jingled soft. Student life buzzed softly around them, no one really giving them a piece of mind. Danny swallowed, offering Sam a small smile.

"I have to get to class, but after?" Sam nodded, wordlessly watching Danny walk away. Part of him wanted to call out to Danny, to straighten things out now. But part of him knew he should wait, think about what it is he wants to say. Why he pulled away, why he essentially rejected Danny when every part of his heart was urging him to go to him.

He sighed, letting his forehead fall against his dorm room door. Good news took such a bad turn, and he wasn't so sure if he was thinking things through. He didn't want to hurt anyone, but yet the pain in his chest and the sad look in Danny's eyes told him otherwise.

He fucked up.
