Chapter 6: Styles?
A long day of school had finally passed and Sayori is seen packing up her belongings. Just has she was packing up a fellow classmate of hers walked up to her.
?: "Hey Sayori." Said the girl with light blue hair tied in a ponytail. Her eyes the same color as her hair.
Sayori: "Oh hey, how's it been Sky?"
Sky: "I'm doing ok. Hey, listen I heard you know someone name Michael Conner?"
Sayori: "You mean MC? Of course, I do. We're childhood friends."
Sky: "Childhood friends? Does that mean you're aware of the …"
Sayori: "Aware of what?" She looks at Sky with a smile on her face.
Sky: "You know what forget about it. Just please be careful around him."
Sayori: "Uhm ok?"
Sky: "Alright, I'll see you next week." She waves to her before leaving for home.
Sayori: "Uh yeah see you tomorrow?" (What was it she was going to say about MC? Oh well it was probably nothing. Better get going, don't want to be late for the club.) She grabs her bag and heads off to the Literature Club.
By the time she got there she was greeted by the others. Monika told her that they have free time right now and to do whatever she wants to pass the time. With that settled Sayori looked around the room to see what everyone else is doing and saw all four of them spread throughout the classroom. She saw Natsuki reading her Manga while Yuri is reading her book. She looked behind herself to see Monika doing paperwork and looked back to see what Michael was doing. She saw him sitting near the back reading a book.
(MC reading a book? Wait could that be the gift Yuri gave him? Why does my chest hurt? He's just reading. Nothing wrong with that? Well, it's nice to see him put some effort into the club.) She walks up to her childhood friend to talk to him but hesitated for a bit. (Wait he's reading, I don't want to bother him while he's in the middle of reading an interesting story.) She looks back at Yuri still reading then looked back to Michael. (What if he's like Yuri and doesn't notice me while he's reading?) While she has a nonstop debate within her head, Michael notices her and sets the book down.
Michael: "Do you need something?" Sayori snaps out of her thoughts and looks to him. "Is there something you want?"
Sayori: "Oh nothing really I just wanted to talk to you."
Michael: "I see, what is it you want to talk about?"
Sayori: "Oh no I don't want to bother you while you're in the middle of reading."
Michael: "Don't worry about it. I'm at the slower part of the story so I can stop to have a chat with you."
Sayori: "How sweet MC."
Michael: "What is it you want to talk about?"
Sayori: "I wanted to talk to you about your poems."
Michael: "I know their terrible. You don't have to rub it in."
Sayori: "And that's why I want to help you."
Michael: *Sigh* "Ok so what's your advice then?"
Sayori: "Well … uh?"
Michael: "You don't know how to help me do you?"
Sayori: "Hang on, I'm thinking." A moment of silence passed by and she still hasn't said anything. Which caused Michael to sigh some more.
Michael: "Well thank you for your time. I guess my poems will forever be bad."
Sayori: "That's not true. I'm sure you can write a great poem if we could find some way to help you?"
Monika: "May I step in?" She pops out of nowhere.
Sayori: "Monika? Well, if you know how to help MC that would be great?"
Monika: "Alright then first we need to discuss inspiration."
Michael: "Inspiration?"
Monika: "Yes such as what gives you an idea. Like do you listen to music or watch TV?"
Michael: "Oh that? I already tried that, but nothing came up."
Monika: "I see, hmm? Well inspiration comes in many different ways. All you need to do is find what motivates you to want to write. Once you find that I'm sure you could write a great poem."
Michael: "Makes sense?"
Sayori: "Oh I know! Some people get inspired by getting hurt, having a great day, or being in love."
Michael: "What was that last part?"
Sayori: "Having a great day?" He gives her the look, but she wasn't sure what his exact facial expression is with his hair covering his eyes.
Michael: "Well, guess I'll have to find out as time goes on?"
Monika: "Hey I know something that could help." Michael and Sayori look at her. "Maybe you could find a style of poetry?"
Michael & Sayori: "Style!?"
Monika: "Sure, you saw all of ours and saw the differences between them, right?"
Michael: "Yeah?"
Monika: "Maybe if you find a style that you're comfortable with then maybe you could write better?"
Michael: "Ok, but where do I start?"
Monika: "You could talk to each of us and use our styles? If you talk to each of us then you might be able to find one your able to do, but who knows maybe you might use one of our styles and have a bit of a rivalry going on?" She smiles softly.
Michael: "Makes sense, but who should I talk to first?"
Monika: "Well while you think about that may I ask you a question?"
Michael: "Ok?"
Monika: "Earlier you said you tried listening to music to give you inspiration?"
Michael: "Yeah why?"
Monika: "I wanted to ask what type of music you like to listen to?" Just as she asked Natsuki and Yuri stopped what they were doing and paid close attention to Michael's answer.
Michael: "Hmm? Well … I like to listen to rock music."
Monika: "Interesting"
Michael: "What about you, what type do you listen to?"
Monika: "For me I like to listen to classic, to be more specific a piano."
Michael: "Piano?"
Monika: "Oh yes, I love to hear a piano playing in the background as I write my poems or as I run through my errands."
Michael: "Interesting"
Monika: "As a matter of fact I love the piano so much that I've been practicing it for a while now."
Sayori: "You can play a piano? That's amazing! Can you play one for us?"
Monika: "Well right now I'm still not that good at it yet, but I have been improving day by day."
Sayori: "That's great so will you be able to play for us?"
Monika: "When I get better then sure I don't mind." She looks at her watch. "Okay everyone it's time to share our poems. You all know what to do."
Everyone Else: "Yes Mam!"
As soon as Monika made her announcement everyone quickly went through their bags to grab their poems. When they did, they all paired up and began reading each other's poems. After everyone shared theirs with each other. Monika made her next announcement.
Monika: "Okay everyone, listen up! In two weeks after next week is the School Festival."
Yuri: "It is?"
Natsuki: "Huh, I completely forgot about that."
Monika: "Well I'm reminding you now and we're going to be participating in it as a club."
Yuri: "W-what are we going to do?"
Monika: "That's the thing I don't know yet, but hopefully I'll figure something out by Monday."
Yuri: "I see?"
Monika: "Well anyways it's time to end today's meeting. Next week I hope you all write your next poem. Other than that, have a great weekend everyone."
When she said that everyone went back to their seats to pack up and head home. Yuri and Natsuki left leaving Michael, Sayori and Monika alone.
Monika: "Do you think you'll be alright this weekend Michael?"
Michael: "Yeah, hopefully I'll find a way to improve my poems?"
Monika: "Well just remember what we talked about earlier."
Michael: "Right, I'll see you next week."
Monika: "Same to you."
Michael: "You ready Sayori?"
Sayori: "Yeah let's head home. See ya later Monika."
Monika: "Take care you two."
Leaving the club behind, Michael and Sayori headed home. During their walk they had a conversation.
Sayori: "Say MC remember what Monika said about using one of our styles to help you improve?"
Michael: "Yeah, why do you bring it up?"
Sayori: "Do you want to see if my style suits you?"
Michael: "I don't know? I don't want to copy you or anything."
Sayori: "It's fine since you can't really copy my poems unless you rewrite it word for word. Besides obviously ours will be different from each other's."
Michael: "Are you ok with that? Remember what Monika said, we might become rivals?"
Sayori: "Then that should give us both motivations to outdo each other."
Michael: "Yeah I guess you're right?"
Sayori: "Here you can have this one to give you an idea on how I write mine."
Michael: "You're giving me the one you showed us today?"
Sayori: "Yup!"
[Love in Autumn by Eighteen Visions]
Michael: "Thanks, I'll do my best."
Sayori: "Well we're here so I better run off home now?"
Michael: "Yeah don't want to worry your parents."
Sayori: "Exactly. See ya MC."
Michael: "Yeah later and thanks." The both of them waved goodbye before he enters his house. When he entered his room to drop his stuff there, he headed out to eat dinner. When he entered the kitchen, he saw a bag of fast food on the counter with his name written on a piece of paper.
"I got you a burger and fries for dinner. Your drink is in the fridge. Love you son." – Mom.
"I wish you stop spoiling me. I don't deserve this but thank you." After enjoying his dinner, he went back to his room to reread Sayori's poem. He read it carefully to understand it better before putting it away. After that he went under his bed to grab his bottle of liquor and took a shot out of it before grabbing his gun. He spun the barrel and pointed at his head again, pulling the trigger, but of course he missed and put everything away. After taking a shower he went to bed thinking about his first week in the Literature Club.
(This week has been a wild one. I had no intention in joining, but I ended up joining anyways. Not only that, but I witness Natsuki and Yuri argue which caused Yuri to run away crying. The only good thing is that they made up and they made me feel welcome.) He stares up at the ceiling. (I shouldn't be attached, but I am. If this keeps up, then I'll only hurt myself more in the end.) After his last thought he went to bed.
He survived his first week of being in the Literature Club, but there is much to go on. What will he face as time goes on? What will his life be when it ends? Only time will tell until next Monday. This is the end of the week, but a new week will begin.
