Chapter 7; Learning to Fly
The following days, Hiccup, Eric and their Pokemon started to learn how to fly with Toothless and Honorstream.
First they made saddles so they could ride Toothless and Honorstream. Toothless and Honorstream did play around a little, soon they saddle up Toothless and Honorstream and they took to the air. In the air, Eric, Knight, and Honorstream watched as Hiccup, who was trying to use a string to control the tail wing. It worked, but the moment Hiccup reached forward, it caused the tail fin to suddenly turn and Toothless quickie turn as well. Hiccup then fell off Toothless and they both crashed into the water.
The next day. Hiccup added a safety latch to Toothless saddle, so he would fall off again. And also add handlebars to Honorstream saddle, so Eric had something to hold. Hiccup also decided to control the tail fin with his foot. However the sting was too lose, so it didn't really help Hiccup control the tail fin. Just as they crashed into a field of grass, Eric and Honorstream flew to them and Eric said to Hiccup. "Hiccup you guys good?"
"Yeah, but look." Hiccup said as Toothless was rolling around in the grass. Once Honorstream landed in the grass, and Eric was off, Honorstream started to roll around in it too. "Dragon's must really like this type of grass." Eric said as Hiccup picked some grass. During dragon training, Hiccup used the grass on the Gronckle. That grass stopped the Gronckle charge and then after Hiccup scratched its noise with the grass, the Gronckle rolled over. Everyone was amazed, minus Astrid, and Eric helped Hiccup escape back to the cove. At the cove, Hiccup and Eric were giving Toothless and Honorstream some scratches and when they scratched their dragon's chin, both dragons fell down. They were fine, but Hiccup and Eric learned that dragons had a weak spot.
The next day in dragon training. Astrid and Spikeball were fighting the Deadly Nadder. The Nadder attacked them, but they dodged. The Nadder then got close to Hiccup and Flare. But stopped and turned to Astrid who was doing a battle cry. As Astrid and Spikeball charged at the Nadder, Hiccup scratched it's neck and found the weak spot. Everyone then saw that Hiccup had knocked out the Nadder with his bare hands. That night in the great hall everyone was surrounding Hiccup and were treating him with admiration. Astrid wasn't happy, because she could feel something was up with Hiccup.
The next morning, Honorstream was playing with Tera, and Toothless was chasing the light that reflect off of Tera shell. Hiccup and Eric noticed that dragons were attracted to small light from shiny objects. Which would be handy in dragon training. "Meet the Terrible Terror." Gobber said before releasing the same creature that attacked Eric on his first day. There was only one and it attacked Tuffnut's face. Hiccup used his shield to make a small light. The Terror noticed it and followed it all the way back into its cage. "Wow! He's better than you ever were." Tuffnut said to Astrid.
After training, Astrid and Spikeball were training in the forest. They were attacking trees, but stopped when they saw Hiccup, holding a new version of Toothless tail fin, Eric, who was holding two small baskets of fish, and their Pokemon. They all quickly went behind a rock and Astrid followed them. Astrid climbed over the rock, but she lost sight of them.
Back in the cove, Hiccup hocked Toothless with the new tail fin. This version Hiccup attached to Toothless, this one had a pedal for Hiccup to control the tail fin and the string was secure close to Toothless body. This time it worked and they were flying, but now Hiccup had to learn how to turn with Toothless. During a control test flight, a powerful gust of wind pushed them back and broke the rope holding them down. They did crash into the woods, and while they were fine. The safety latch was broken and Hiccup was stuck to Toothless. It was a simple fix, but they need some tools. So while Hiccup stayed in the cove with Toothless and their Pokemon. Eric and Honorstream flew back to the village.
It was dark, and they were keeping quiet, until they entered the blacksmith shop. Eric knocked over some metal works and made a loud bang. Astrid and Spikeball, who was doing a self appointed patrol, heard the sound. "Hiccup? Are you in there?" Astrid said just as Eric found the tools they needed. Before Astrid opened the shop door, Honorstream released a lot of steam to cover their escape. So Astrid when opened the shop doors, and the steam cleared, she didn't see them or saw them flying away, but she knew something was up with Hiccup and Eric, and she was going to find the truth, no matter what.
The following morning, Stoick, Sword Walker, and only one badly damaged ship returned to Berk. As the Vikings were helping the survivors and removing the supplies, Gobber and Coal appeared and Gobber said to Stoick. "I trust you found the nest, at least?"
"Not even close."
"Oh. Excellent."
"I hope you had more success than me."
"If by success, you mean your parenting troubles are over, yes." Gobber said and before Stoick could ask why, a lot of Viking's said to him. "Congratulations, Stoick! Everyone is so relieved!" A female Viking said. "Out with the old and in with the new, right?" A male Viking said. "No one will miss that nuisance!" Another male Viking said. "We're throwing a party to celebrate!" A third male Viking said. Stoick feared the worst and said to Gobber. "He's gone?"
"Yeah. Most afternoons, but who can blame him? The life of a celebrity is very rough. He can barely walk through the village without being swarmed by his new fans."
"Hiccup?"
"Who would have thought it, eh? He has this way with the beasts." Gobber said and Stoick was very surpised to hear that.
In the sky, Hiccup was flying Toothless. Flare was on Hiccup's back, and Knack was flying beside them. Next to them was Eric riding Honorstream, with Knight sitting in front and Tera secured in Eric's bag. "So, are we going to take this fast and hard, or slow and steady?" Eric said before Hiccup said. "Slow and steady." Hiccup then looked at a cheat sheet he made to help him, and the cheat sheet had 6 positions on it. "Here we go. Here we go. Position… three… no, four." Hiccup said as he moved the fin and Toothless turned left. Honorstream followed Toothless with Eric and his Pokemon holding on tight. Hiccup then motioned Toothless to go down. Toothless did go down and Knack and Honorstream followed. The reached close to the water then started to fly threw some rock pillars. Hiccup then crashed into a few rock pillars. They weren't going to fall out of the sky, but Toothless wasn't happy with Hiccup. After Toothless hit Hiccup with one of his ears, Eric said to Hiccup. "I think he doesn't like you crashing into rocks."
"Yeah, I'm on it. Position four, Uh, three." Hiccup said as he made Toothless start to climb. All of them then went to the peak of Berks island. Hiccup then said to Eric, as Honorstream joined them. "Oh, this is amazing! The wind in my…" Hiccup's cheat sheet then fell off. "cheat sheet! Stop!" Hiccup said as he tried to grab it. Hiccup did grab it and Toothless did stop, but the sudden upward stop caused the safety latch to fail. That meant Hiccup and Flare were sent flying from the saddle. All of them then screamed as they started to fall. Knack grabbed Flare, and Eric grabbed Hiccup. "You need to work on that safety latch!" Eric said as Honorstream rushed to Toothless. With Eric's help, Hiccup was able to get back on to Toothless. And just before they crashed, Hiccup was able to pull up. So did Honorstream and Knack. They didn't crash into the island, but they were heading for a few rock pillars surrounded by fog. Hiccup had no time to think about what position he needed Toothless tail fin to be in. So Hiccup threw away his cheat sheet and put his fate in Toothless, which was the right call. With Hiccup and Eric listening to Toothless and Honorstream, they all managed to dodge every rock pillar and come out the other side completely fine. As Hiccup, Eric, and Pokemon were laughing.
They then landed on a small island a good distance from Berk, and started making dinner. As the sun started to set, Honorstream had retrieved enough fish for him and Toothless. Hiccup caught a fish for him and Eric. And Eric made the fire to cook the fish, after giving the Pokemon some berry's. Seeing that Hiccup still hadn't eaten yet, Toothless coughed up a fish head and gave it to Hiccup. "Uh… No, thanks. I'm good." Hiccup said to Toothless. Then a few Terror's appeared. Hiccup though they were after him, but really they were after the fish. Toothless and Honorstream weren't going to share. Toothless then watched as two of the Terror's fought over the fish head. And that was when one of them stole a fish from Toothless. Toothless took it back, then laughed at the Terror. The Terror tried to fight back with a big fire blast, but it was taking too long. And the moment it opened its mouth, Toothless fired a small fire blast into its mouth. The blast caused the Terror insides to be set on fire. It didn't kill the Terror, but it did cause a lot of pain. "Huh. Not so fireproof on the inside, are you?" Eric said before Hiccup said giving the Terror his fish. "Here you go." The Terror took the fish and was very happy. The Terror then chose to take a nap close to Hiccup. Hiccup then said as he touched the Terror. "Everything we know about you guys is wrong."
