A Visitor from Beyond (1/6)

On an ordinary day of Kivotos where the sun cast its golden rays over the vibrant cityscape.

Out of nowhere.

A sudden anomaly broke through the mundane tranquility.

In the outskirts of the city, near a dense forest shrouded in mist— a faint glow of darkness began to shimmer in mid-air. The light twisted and pulsed, the landscape twisted, forming an unnatural tear in the fabric of reality. The rift expanded, edges crackling with an otherworldly energy as if the universe itself held its breath.

Without warning, the rift stabilized into a swirling, luminescent black gate. From its core, a figure emerged—a girl stepping onto the soft forest ground with quiet grace. Her pale complexion was illuminated by the ethereal glow of the portal behind her, casting her shadow onto the trees that seemed to lean closer in awe. She was dressed in an elaborate, gothic-style outfit that gave her an air of mystique—her layered black dress swayed lightly in the wind, adorned with intricate lace and golden trimmings. In her arms was a cute orange doll. Her blonde hair, faintly tinted with wildflowers, fell in soft waves to her shoulders, and her wide-brimmed hat seemed almost too big for her petite frame. Her luminous blue eyes carried a weight far beyond her years, flickering with a mix of curiosity, excitement, and melancholy.

The rift behind her flickered once more before collapsing in on itself, leaving nothing but the stillness of the forest. The girl stepped forward, her gaze fixed on the horizon where Kivotos sprawled in all its chaotic glory—a city of contrasting elements, where lush greenery met the metallic sheen of skyscrapers, and desert sands bled into sparkling waters.

She stood in silence, taking in the sprawling cityscape for a moment that felt like an eternity.

"Waa..."

A faint smile crossed her lips, but it disappeared almost immediately as she was reminded of her purpose. A sense of urgency pulled her back to the present.

The air around her shifted subtly as she closed her eyes, focusing her senses. A faint ripple of energy emanated from her, invisible to the untrained eye, spreading out like a web across the city. She was searching, reaching for the presence of one particular person.

"—!" Her expression faltered. She blinked, her composure breaking as a wave of uncertainty washed over her.

"...What's going on?" she mumbled, her soft voice tinged with confusion.

For someone who had always known exactly where she was going, this sprawling city was a labyrinth. Its vibrancy and chaos overwhelmed her senses. Even though it was abnormally faint— she could still sense her connection with him, but there were too many 'disturbances'.

He was here, somewhere—she was sure of it—but there were too many voices, too much life to pinpoint him. Her thoughts swirled with a mix of frustration and determination.

The girl stood still for a moment longer, clutching her doll tightly. "Focus..." she whispered to herself, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. The solution was clear. If she couldn't find him immediately, she could at least explore this strange world and perhaps stumble upon him during her search.

With a faint shimmer, her form flickered and vanished into thin air. Her body dissolved into a translucent, ethereal state, becoming one with the breeze. Invisible to the eyes of ordinary citizens, she ascended gracefully into the air.

As she soared over the city, her wide eyes took in the sights below. Skyscrapers, bustling streets, shimmering lakes, and patches of untamed wilderness unfolded like a vivid painting. The peculiar blend of natural beauty and advanced technology fascinated her. For a fleeting moment, she allowed herself to enjoy the view, her earlier frustration giving way to a quiet sense of wonder.

But the thought lingered in the back of her mind—she wasn't here for leisure. She had come to find someone. And so, while the city tempted her with its splendor, her focus remained resolute. Somewhere amidst the vastness of Kivotos, the man she sought was waiting.

And she wouldn't stop until she found him.

With a faint smile, the little girl looked forward to reuniting with him.

As the mysterious girl glided invisibly over the city, she marveled at the sights below her.

The city of Kivotos was unlike anything she had ever encountered. Her luminous blue eyes widened as she caught glimpses of strange and fascinating things—a pair of dog-eared students chatting by a café, their wagging tails a stark contrast to the stern conversation they seemed to be having. A group of AI robots zipped across the streets delivering parcels, their metallic bodies gleaming in the sunlight. And everywhere, absolutely everywhere, there were girls dressed in school uniforms carrying firearms as casually as one might carry a backpack.

She slowed down, her gaze drawn to a nearby alley where two groups of students were engaged in a heated argument. What began as shouting escalated rapidly. In a flash, guns were drawn, and grenades were lobbed as though it were an everyday occurrence. Tanks—actual tanks—rolled in from both sides, their turrets swiveling with precision. She froze midair, her eyes wide in shock and excitement.

"What kind of place is this...?" she whispered, clutching her hands to her chest.

Flying higher to avoid the chaos, she continued her exploration. The sprawling city seemed to have no end. It was divided into numerous districts, each with its own distinct character. Some areas were sleek and futuristic, filled with neon lights and towering skyscrapers. Others were tranquil and traditional, their streets lined with red lanterns, wooden bridges, and intricate pagodas reminiscent of ancient Chinese or Japanese architecture.

The closest places she'd ever been to that gave off similar vibes were summer festivals— But this was different... This was its unique, own world.

Nevertheless, she found herself mesmerized by the beauty and sheer scale of the city. But no matter how many districts she passed, she saw no sign of the man she was looking for. More curiously, she hadn't seen any men at all.

Then, something unusual caught her eye.

On the rooftop of a distant building, a white-haired girl stood out against the backdrop of the midday sun. Her short hair gleamed silver, and her sharp, wolf-like ears twitched in excitement. She held a pair of binoculars to her eyes, her posture brimming with determination and mischief.

The mysterious girl's gaze followed the girl's line of sight. The direction of the binoculars led to a grand building that stood prominently in the middle of a financial district:Kaiser Loan.

"..."

She blinked in disbelief, her thoughts racing. "She's planning to rob a bank?!"

For a moment, she was frozen in place. Her mind spiraled with conflicting thoughts. She was an outsider, a visitor to this world. Did she have the right to interfere in its affairs? And yet, could she ignore what was clearly a crime in progress?

No, she couldn't.

Her grip tightened on her doll as she steeled herself. Righteousness doesn't stop at worlds, she murmured. "I can't let her do this."

A flicker of a smile crossed her face as another thought came to her. If she stopped this girl, the man she was looking for would surely praise her. He always appreciated when she did the right thing. As a good child... that settled it—she had to intervene.

With renewed determination, she descended toward the rooftop, her presence still hidden as she approached the wolf-eared girl.

"Excuse me—" she said softly, her voice carrying a surprising firmness.

"—!" The white-haired girl froze, her ears perking up as she turned her sharp golden eyes toward the source of the voice.

The blue, jewel-liked eyes and the blue, innocent eyes met. To the wolf girl's shock, the little girl stepped forward, no longer invisible, her pale figure illuminated by the fading sunlight.

"Onee-san, I'm afraid I can't let you do that."

"—!"

Her blue eyes widened with surprise. For a brief moment, her hand instinctively reached for the rifle slung across her back, but she stopped herself when she saw who had spoken.

"Wha—" The wolf-eared girl blinked rapidly, lowering her binoculars. "Who are you? And where did you come from?"

In front of her was a child who looked 4-5 years younger than her yet her aura was unmistakably different. Her eyes shone a mix of childishness but mature— as if she had experienced things beyond her age. A black gothic dress she'd never seen any student wear. Her height, coupled with her heels, was also nearly the same as her.

"Um... Well— " The mysterious girl tilted her head slightly, her expression calm and curious.

"I should be asking you that." the little girl continued, her soft voice steady despite her delicate appearance. "What are you doing up here? Spying on that bank?"

"..."

"( ._. )" Now, the little girl suddenly lost her confidence, wondering if it was right to interfere with the otherworldly matter.

The wolf-eared girl hesitated, her gaze flickering between the stranger and the binoculars still in her hand. "Well... uh..." She scratched the back of her head, her ears twitching nervously. "It's, um... just a hobby of mine. Yeah— a strange hobby. That's all."

The mysterious girl narrowed her eyes slightly. "A hobby?"

The wolf-eared girl nodded quickly. "Nnn! Just a hobby. I like— observing buildings... and people... from a distance."

"That seems like an unusual hobby..."

"Maybe." the wolf-eared girl admitted truthfully. She was 'just' observing buildings, drawing blueprints, monitoring targets' movement patterns, locating security cameras, and planning escape routes... That's all. She didn't dare do anything reckless 'yet'— or else, she'd be scolded heavily by her strict friend and her teacher.

Now that she thought about it, the little girl was the second person to catch her red-handed after him. She couldn't even feel her presence until she spoke up.

Still— It was a bit weird that the little girl was shocked to hear about her hobby. The little girl just smiled faintly and chuckled childishly. No one would have any idea how many strange people the girl had interacted with. Robbing bank was too mild compared to those...

"I've never seen anyone dress like you around here. That's not a school uniform, is it?"

The little girl shook her head, her eyes sparkling. "I suppose you could say I'm... from afar, far away place. I just arrived today."

"...?" The wolf girl raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "That explains a lot. But what brings you to Abydos district?"

"I'm looking for someone." After a few seconds of hesitation, the girl replied softly, her hands clenched the dolls in front of her. "Someone very important to me."

"And you're wandering around aimlessly? Do you know where to start looking?"

The girl hesitated, her gaze dropping to the ground. "Well... not exactly."

The wolf girl sighed, her ears twitching. Hearing the little girl's situation reminded her of her past self— having nowhere to go and no one to rely on.

"Kivotos isn't exactly the easiest place to navigate, especially for someone new."

The little girl's lips curved into a faint smile. "Thank you!"

"I was heading back to Abydos High School anyway. It's my school, and I'm part of the Foreclosure Task Force. Maybe someone there can help you find the person you're looking for."

"Abydos?" the girl echoed, tilting her head.

"Nnn." The older girl gestured for her to follow. "It's a bit of a walk but it's better than wandering around blindly. Besides, you look like you could use some company."

The mysterious girl happily nodded, falling into step beside her. "Thank you, Onee-san! I'd like that."

Like that, two girls walked together.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, the afternoon yellow glow contrasted with the blue sky perfectly, the two of them made their way toward Abydos. Along the way, the little girl marveled at the sights around her—students with animal ears and tails, robotic assistants bustling about, and towering structures.

The two of them stepped onto the sandy grounds of Abydos High School. The sun's rays cast long shadows over the dirty buildings covered in sand, and a sense of quiet determination seemed to linger in the air.

"Come on." The wolf girl said, waving her hand. "I'll introduce you to the Foreclosure Task Force. If anyone can help you figure out this city, it's them."

The little girl followed, her steps light and purposeful. As they neared the school building, she couldn't shake the feeling that her journey was finally starting to take shape. The girls entered the building. Despite some corners that were covered in sand, it was maintained cleanly despite its ordinary design and the harsh desert environment of the district.

Finally, they arrived in front of a club room. A sound of chattered sipping through the doors could be heard from the outside.

"I'm back." The wolf girl said nonchalantly as she pushed open the creaky doors to the Foreclosure Task Force's meeting room. The sound of her voice made the group inside perk up and turn to her, yet all the attention went to—

"Welcome back, Shiroko-sen...pai?" A cat girl greeted but stopped as her gaze shifted to the figure trailing behind her. "Who's that you bringing back?! Didn't you say you were going to buy us a surprise?!"

"Eh? Shiroko kidnapped a girl?! So, we're following Hoshino-senpai's plan?" A blond girl exclaimed happily.

"What did you do, Shiroko-senpai?! Don't tell me... Human— Human trafficking?!" A girl in glasses joined the misunderstanding.

"..."

"Σ( )!" The little girl froze, looking back and forth between the crime suspect who took her here and her companions.

Shiroko, the wolf girl, nervously gulped "I ran into her on the way back. She's new to Kivotos and looking for someone. Figured I'd bring her here."

The mysterious girl stepped forward hesitantly, her delicate frame standing out in stark contrast to its lively occupants.

"She looks so cute and elegant..." The blond girl, almost in awe.

The cat girl leaned closer to her friend and whispered not-so-quietly, "Nonomi-senpai, she doesn't look like a student. Are we sure she's not some kind of VIP?"

The little girl offered a small, polite bow. "Hello. Thank you for having me." Her voice was soft yet steady, her arms hugged an animal doll as she looked at everyone's faces in the room.

"It's rare for someone to seek help from us. We are the Foreclosure Task Force from Abydos High School." Trusting her senpai did not commit a crime, the girl in glasses said smilingly. "My name is Ayane, the one who brought you here is Shiroko-senpai. And— she is Serika and that's Nonomi-senpai. There is also Hoshino-senpai who's not here at the moment."

"What's your name?" Serika, the cat girl asked.

The girl hesitated momentarily, then offered a gentle smile and introduced herself.

.

.

"So... you're not from around here? What school are you from?" Ayane asked politely, tilting her head as she studied the little girl.

"Mhm, I'm from a far away place— and I'm not in any school."

"Hmm? You are not a student?" Nonomi asked curiously, looking at the little girl's innocent face as she adorably nodded.

"Don't tell me— You're raised in a gang?"

"Eh! No!" The mysterious girl quickly shook her head, waving her hands in denial of Serika's disbelief blurted. "I meant— I'm an outsider..."

"Hmm? You're saying you're not from Kivotos?" Ayane's brows furrowed in surprise. She glanced at her friends for some sort of explanation, but they seemed just as confused. Even Hoshino, who had just returned also reacted the same.

"Well... yes," the girl confirmed with a slight nod.

"That's impossible—" Serika argued "I can feel your halo just fine."

"Halo?" The little girl tilted her head, genuinely confused.

The other girls exchanged glances, nodding in agreement with Serika's assertion.

The only place that existed in this world was Kivotos, and Halos were the proves that they were students. It was a matter of fact. If a student was not raised in a decent school, it could be assumed they were raised in an inconvenient means such as gang and criminal groups— the Helmet gang was a good example of this.

Nevertheless, The little girl blinked and bewildered— she didn't understand a thing.

"Onee-sans, it should be me asking you this— Why do you all havespirit origins?"

"Spirit... Origins?"

"What was that again?" Serika said, as puzzled as Ayane.

"Uhee— This oji-san didn't understand a thing." Hoshino mumbled sleepily "Should oji-san go back to bed again?"

The mysterious girl sighed internally, realizing the conversation was heading nowhere. Refocusing on her original purpose, she took a small step forward.

"Anyway, Onee-sans, I'm looking for a person, Have you ever seen him?" The little girl asked, taking out a photograph from her pocket carefully. She held it up for the group to see.

The image was a warm and cozy snapshot of a moment frozen in time. A group of children, all around the girl's age, surrounded someone in the middle with bright smiles and adoring eyes. Toward the back was a child with visible scars on her arms, her shy smile peeking out from behind the others. Another child wore thick winter clothes, bundled up despite the absence of snow, while another, dressed in a sleek black dress, sat nestled lovingly in the man's embrace. And standing just behind them, the mysterious little girl herself gazed softly at the scene.

But it wasn't the children that captured the Abydos girls' attention. Their eyes locked on the one figure at the center of the photograph—a man with jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes.

Despite the unfamiliar costume he wore, it didn't take long for the Abydos students to realize who it was.

"—Sensei?" Ayane muttered, her brows furrowing in confusion.

"Ehh?! Sensei? You're looking for Ritsuka-sensei?" Serika exclaimed, stepping closer to get a better look.

The little girl's expression shifted from hopeful to puzzled. "Waa— you all know him?" she asked, her voice brimming with curiosity. "And... he's 'sensei'?"

"Of course, we know him!" Nonomi chirped, her tone bright and cheerful. "He'soursensei. Wait... this person here, right?" She quickly pulled out her phone and navigated to a photo, then turned it toward the mysterious girl.

The picture showed the Abydos Foreclosure Task Force at the aquarium—Ayane, Serika, Hoshino, Nonomi, and Shiroko. Standing at the furthest right, smiling at the camera, was none other than Ritsuka Fujimaru.

The little girl's blue eyes sparkled with excitement, and she nodded vigorously. "Yes! That's him!"

Her sudden outburst caught the group off guard, but their confusion quickly gave way to amusement.

"Wow, so you're looking for Sensei?" Ayane asked, smiling warmly.

"Wait a second," Serika interjected, pointing at the little girl suspiciously. "If you're looking for him, how do you know him?"

The little girl hesitated, her hands clutching the photograph tightly. "He's... someone very important to me." she said softly, her voice filled with sincerity.

The Abydos girls exchanged glances, their curiosity deepening.

"Nnn... I will text him then."

"Waa! Thank you so much, Shiroko-san!"

Pulling out her phone, Shiroko opened Momotalk and quickly navigated to his chat. "But don't expect much— Looks like he's been busy lately."

Other students argued. "True.. sometimes it took almost a week until he replied."

"Now that I think about it, he must be taking care of a lot of students..."

Just as Shiroko finished sending her first text, a message from the other side popped up in an instant.

[Me]

Sensei.

[Sensei]

What is it, Shiroko? Just now.

"..."

"..."

"..."

"( )!-=-!( )!" Noticing the atmosphere changed, the mysterious girl nervously glanced at the students' faces.

Shiroko stared at her phone as the exchange continued, her wolf ears twitching slightly in focus. She wasn't used to getting such a quick response from him.

"Wow..." She muttered under her breath, a proud smirk of a winner appeared on her face. "He replied."

The murmuring among her friends grew louder.

"No way! Shiroko-senpai reallygets special treatment, huh?" Serika exclaimed, half in awe and half in mock jealousy.

"How does she do it?" Nonomi added, looking genuinely curious.

"Maybe Sensei just has his phone in hand right now?" Ayane offered, trying to calm Serika's theatrics.

Ignoring her friends, the wolf girl continued typing.

[Me]

Are you busy right now?

[Sensei]

It's okay. I'm helping some students review, but I can multitask. Is something urgent?

Shiroko paused for a moment, glancing at the little girl, who was now staring at her with wide, hopeful eyes. The little girl's hands fidgeted with the hem of her black dress, an air of nervous excitement around her.

[Me]

There's a child looking for you. She says she knows you.

[Sensei]

A child?

[Me]

Yes.

Her name is Abigail.

Abigail Williams.

END.
