Bringing in the reinforcements
In the days since she saw Ginny and the twins she had hidden away to the basement once again. One thing Snape had become happy about since his death was the young lady working hard to complete the work he started to fruition. In the time she had begun to look over his work a number of breakthroughs on Hermione's use of other subjects showed through. But all the time she was searching for answers, she knew she owed Molly Weasley a reply or some acknowledgement but what to say was plaguing her mind.
"Have you thought of enhancing the wolfbanes? I have heard Neville Longbottom has been looking at the enhancement of magical plants as of you should contact him" Severus inquired as Hermione continued creating more equations of the levels of ingredients and their effects on one another. "Severus, I have told you I do not need help." She huffed at the painting on the wall. "Hermione do not become me, the sour faced git of a dungeon that needed no help." She sighed and realised she wasn't getting very far.
"Good Afternoon Severus, Miss Granger. Have you thought about what to reply to Molly? I hear she has been rather anxious waiting for a reply." Albus inquired before taking a seat and pulling a book from the library in his painting. "I just don't know how to reply without having to see them until I am ready." She confessed "I am not ready yet." She moved to her armchair as she faced her closest advisers. "I would also request you stop meddling in my business."
Albus hummed and Severus let out a grunt of exasperation. "Hermione, if it wasn't for us. You would be completely disattached from the wizarding world. Apart from your research and Library." Her anger began to slip through to her magic "WHO ASKED YOU TO? I AM FINE ON MY OWN!" She shouted at the portraits and Grimmauld place began to shake. She heard banging and crashing from upstairs before a pop and Kreacher appeared with Harry. "I's will be back with the tea, Misses Muggleborn." Before leaving he turned to bow to the portraits. "Hermione?" was all she heard before she started throwing up wards and disillusion charms around the room. "Hermione will you stop!"
Harry was fuming, he thought by leaving the basement to Hermione she could hide away and not be seen. He now realised beyond everything else she was doing, she had now become a wanna be potion mistress researcher. "What the hell have you been doing down here." Both portraits began to laugh at Harry's confuzzlement before Severus replied. "I believe it would be completely obvious." he sneared his last sentence. "Now, now Severus Harry has inquired about the activities of his dear friend. He is clearly worried." Hermione sighed and held up her hand to stop the Portraits from continuing.
"Since the war Harry, I needed something to do. Something to learn, something to help. To repay my debt." She motioned around the room. "This is what I have done." She was interrupted by Albus. "And quiet well I might add." Harry continued to look around the office. Some areas were completely reorganised and sorted meticulously. Other areas are a complete mess of parchment and disorganisation. "I have been working on Severus' unfinished work. I just didn't want to lose such a brilliant mind's work." Harry let out a puff of frustration. "When are you ever going to realise you have done enough? You practically rebuild half of Hogwarts on your own, You managed to attain enough books to recreate the library tenfolds. You helped make Grimmaulds a home but refuse to live in any proper livable area. You obviously have made achievements with Severus work. What more could you do? You cannot raise the dead but you need to forgive yourself."
Quiet loomed over them and Harry conjured another Armchair. He decided to leave Hermione in her own thoughts. "I am glad to see you aren't bound to Hogwarts." He spoke up to the portraits. "It is wonderful to see you my dear boy. You have become quite the young man." Albus replied to Harry with his twinkly eyes. "Miss Granger has become a great hand in ensuring us ample portraits, we have ones in Gringotts, The ministry, The hogshead, The leaky, obviously McGonagall's office and finally two small portraits that Hermione keeps on herself." Severus explained with joy the efforts the young women had gone for them. "That must have been rather expensive, how did you afford it Hermione?" The questions brought her back to the room. "Well the goblins and myself are on rather good terms, so I asked and it was decided not to fair to hide the portraits in a vault but my bank managers office. If they ever require my present all they need is to ask Albus or Severus." She had ignored the money questions and went on to explain how she managed to get Goblins, Wizards and witches to agree to hanging the portraits. "Hermione, I asked how you afford all those paintings. From what I have heard they are rather ridiculous in price."
"I sold my parents house and dental surgery. I used half of my Order of Merlin to put towards building efforts at Gringotts. The goblins manage all my money and investments." Harry was amazed. "How did you manage that? I went to apologise and try to refund them but they said my vault and account was safe and I need not to worry about repaying them. The debt was settled." Hermione began to smile, a miniscule smile but it was there. "Well my money was enough, I also explained the muggle stock market. I didn't need to explain much at all but the basics and offered myself as their front women on the stock Market. The money they make is rather satisfactory." Harry realised all this time he believed he knew his friend and was her guardian but in the end she was doing what she had always done. Looked after him.
"Quite the overachiever." Severus dwalled out. "So in short, Hermione has rebuilt Hogwarts, not held prejudice towards slytherin, rebuilt a Library 15 times bigger than the original, taken hold of Dark Arts books and artefacts protecting them for ever being allowed to cause harm again. Rebuild the wizarding bank of Britain, Stabilized The British wizarding economy. Helped complete my research and work towards potions. Has become a ward Mistress and had the mark of Hogwarts." The final comments were added quickly hoping everything else was too much. "And she is still trying to kill herself regularly with over use of her magic, believes she doesn't deserve forgiveness and finally has almost become worse than I was."
"Come now Severus, I actually think Miss Granger is worse than you. She has been talking to two magical portraits the last 5 months and the only other people she talks to is about the work she is completing. Much worse, at least you spoke to real people." Hermione's anger rose once again and a rumble in the floor caused minor vibrations to the room. "I TALK TO HARRY!" She shouted. "Clearly" Sarcasm dripped from Severus' mouth. They were all interrupted by a call from the stairs "Harry! Are you down there?" then shouting started "FOR GOD SAKE HOUSE ELF LET ME PASS!" Kreacher began to screech "BREACH! BREACH! EVIL FIRE HAIRED DEMON! MISSES SAID NO VISITORS! AWAY! AWAY!"
Severus chuckled "Hermione, I believe you need to save Mrs Weasley from your house elf." With that comment Hermione left the room with a clean swoosh and suddenly every item in the room glowed with the ward charms. "Harry are you coming?" She asked at the door. Harry quickly followed her out. "Hermione's House elf?" Harry was muttering under his breath as he followed her up the stairs. "Kreacher, please release Mrs Weasley." Kreacher bowed to Hermione and snapped his fingers. "I's goes to tea making" He walked away cursing about a red haired fire demon interrupting his tea making for Misses Muddyborn.
"Mrs Weasley, I am very sor..." But Hermione broke down into tears and went to leave before being pulled back and bear hugged by the older woman. "Now how many times do I have to tell you. It's Molly or mum and I won't hear anything else." For the first time since before the war Hermione cried without having a panic attack. She cried for hours mumbling apologies and sobbing harder each time. Molly just held her and stroked her hair. She told her everything was going to get better and this was the first step. Kreacher continued popping into the kitchen to check on his mistress. He scowled at Molly the first few times but then began to bring tea and biscuits. A box of tissues once in a while.
After about 4 hours Hermione had cried herself to sleep. Molly held her close and brushed the hair from her reddened face. "Harry dear when was the last time her magical core was checked?" He asked the boy who had sat for hours watching his best friend fall apart in front of his eyes. "I don't know, I could ask Poppy if she has checked?" He suggested. "No, no it can only be checked by someone from the department of Mysteries. I feel like she is leaking." She started talking to herself. "There have been a few things lately, like child's accidental magic. She caused the house to shake earlier when she was angry." Harry put forward to Mrs Weasley. "It is not uncommon that she is burning out at Hogwarts because of a possible change to her magical signature and her wand is struggling to connect to the magical signature. It can cause excess magic build up and her magic begins to leak around her."
"It is hard to tell without watching her regularly. But lets get her into a nice comfortable bed first." Harry took Hermione from Mollys arms and realised as he lifted her. She weighed nothing. "Molly I think you might need to start feeding Hermione more often. I think Kreacher has been feeding her biscuits." A pop sounded next to them. "I's make her proper meals but Misses can stomach them." And with that he was gone again. "How long has she been like this Harry?" Molly asked tucking her into the bed. "I believe the best people to answer that are in my basement."
