Previously on Naruto: Modern Warfare

Khaled Al-Asad executed Yasir Al-Fulani on live TV and has plunged Arabia into civil war between the Arabian army and his militaristic faction, the Lion's Sword. But it won't go unanswered. But right now, the SAS have more pressing matters to attend to. The team is about to head to Russia to rescue their informant, but they'll be in for a big surprise when they reach their destination.

What should have been an easy day after a mission just turned into another shit show for the SAS. But then again, life in special forces was never easy. The events that happened in Arabia were broadcasted all over the major Western news outlets, and this was the kick starter for something larger. Right now, Price, Gaz, Soap, and Naruto were in a briefing room in Hereford discussing about recent events.

"Captain Price," Gaz informed Price, "Al-Asad just executed President Al-Fulani on national television."

"The Americans have plans for Al-Asad," Price replied, "And it's too late to do anything for Al-Fulani, but in less than 18 hours code-name Nikolai will be executed."

"Nikolai, sir?" Soap asked.

"Nikolai is our informant in the Ultranationalist camp," Price explained as he brought up Nikolai's profile on the screen. "He supplied the intel on the cargo ship operation. Nikolai's in hell right now. We're gonna walk him out… we take care of our friends. Let's move."

"Right," they all said. They all prepared to head out to where Nikolai was being held.

"Blackout"

October 6, 2011 – 01:31:24

Caucasus Mountains, Russia

2nd Lt. Naruto "Fox" Uzumaki

22nd SAS Regiment

Price, Gaz, Soap, and Naruto were in a creek near the village where Nikolai was being held by the Ultranationalists. Price and Soap were equipped with M4A1 SOPMODs, while Gaz and Naruto were equipped with G36Cs. Price's weapon had an EOTech sight, a laser, an M203 grenade launcher, and a suppressor. Soap's weapon had a Trijicon ACOG scope, a laser, an M203 grenade launcher, and a suppressor. Gaz's rifle was equipped with a scope, suppressor, laser, and an M203 grenade launcher (AN: I don't know if an M203 can actually go on a G36C in real life, so let me know.). Naruto's rifle was equipped a red dot sight, laser, suppressor, and a foregrip. In addition to his assault rifle, Soap was also equipped with an M21 sniper rifle with a suppressor attached to it.

"The Loyalists are expecting us half a click to the North. Move out," Price orders. They head out to the village.

"Loyalists, eh?" Gaz wonders, "Are those the good Russians or the bad Russians?"

"Well, they won't shoot us on sight if that's what you're asking," Price replied humorlessly.

"Yeah well, that's good enough for me sir."

"Me too," Soap added.

"Believe it," Naruto replied.

They creep up to a dock next to a shack where they notice 2 enemy soldiers on the dock having a smoke and two others in the shack, likely watching TV.

"Weapons free," Price orders. Each of the guards is taken out by a single bullet to the head. "Good work. There should be a few more guard posts up ahead. Kamarov and his men will be waiting for us in a field to the Northwest."

They continue their way under a bridge, right as they heard some trucks passing over. A four-man fireteam deep in enemy territory, on a mission to get their informant out of the shitter. Nothing but a walk in the park for little more than a skeleton crew. They head up to the next guard post.

"Soap," Gaz says, "Plant a claymore in front of the door then get their attention."

Soap nods and pulls out a claymore mine. Nasty little bugger, it is. It can shred anyone caught in its blast radius when tripped. Soap carefully sets it up by the door of the first shack. Once he sets it up, Soap tosses a nearby empty beer bottle into the door to get the Ultranationalists' attention. The two unsuspecting soldiers walk out of the door and are shredded by the claymore. The other soldiers in the area hear the commotion and are scrambling to end the intruders, but they too are cut down.

"Goodnight," Naruto remarks. They press on into a run-down house. Once they search the house for any hostiles, they head out the back door, where they reach a small field. Price notices something fishy in the air.

"Gaz, you smell that?" Price asks Gaz.

Said fishy something smelled like vodka and virginity.

"Yeah, Kamarov," Gaz replied.

They notice a Russian soldier come out with his arms up in the air. This was Sergeant Kamarov of the Loyalist army. He was wielding an AK-103 assault rifle with a GP-30 grenade launcher attachment. At this point, the rest of Kamarov's men come out from cover.

"Welcome to the new Russia, Captain Price," Kamarov told Price. He then looked at Naruto, "Ah, Naruto, you've grown up." Naruto simply nods.

"What's the target, Kamarov?" Price cuts straight to the chase, "We've got an informant to recover."

"BM-21s on the other side of the hill," Kamarov explains, "Their rockets have killed hundreds of civilians in the valley below."

Just as Kamarov is about to walk off to join his men, he's stopped by Price, "Not so fast. Remember Beirut? You're with us."

"Hmm… I guess I owe you one."

"Bloody right you do," Gaz reminded Kamarov.

They head up the hill where the rest of Kamarov's men were waiting. Kamarov whispers to his men in Russian to get into position. He then leads the team over to a cliff overlooking the village. When they get there, they see the BM-21s firing their payloads into the sky, most likely to firing more rockets into the valleys in an indiscriminate bombing of civilians. They're protected by a few BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, along with infantry.

"This way," Kamarov says, "There's a good spot where your sniper can cover my men."

There's an opening in the fence where it gives Soap a good field of view. Soap pulls out his sniper rifle and gets it ready. He turns to Price.

"Do you mind spotting for me, sir?" Soap asks.

"No problem, Soap," Price replies as he gets out his spotter scope. "Sniper team in position. Gaz cover the left flank. Fox, you take the right."

"Roger. Covering the left flank."

"Copy that."

"All units, commence the attack," Kamarov orders on the radio. The Loyalists launch mortars to begin their assault. Alarms go off in the village signaling the Ultranationalists that they were under attack. Soap fires on a trio of soldiers walking down the road. Just down the cliffs were a pair of Ultranationalist soldiers firing old RPD machine guns mounted at the windows. Price spots them pinning Kamarov's men down.

"Soap, take out the machine gunners in the windows so Kamarov's men can storm the building!"

"On it!" Soap replies. He takes out one gunner with a well-aimed head shot, the other by firing through the wall. He notices some soldiers climbing over the far wall in the village. He fires at 5 of them in rapid succession.

"Nice shot," Price complimented, "MacMillan would be impressed."

Soap reloaded his sniper rifle when he heard a distinctive chopping sound. "Do any of you hear that?" Soap asks. It was then that two Mi-8 Hip helicopters flew overhead, apparently bringing in reinforcements for the Ultranationalists.

"Damn, enemy helicopters!" Kamarov exclaimed.

"You didn't say there would be any helicopters Kamarov," Price said sounding annoyed.

"I didn't say there wouldn't be any either," Kamarov replied, "We need to protect my men from those helicopter troops. This way!"

"Make it quick, Kamarov," Price told him impatiently "I want that informant."

"You have nothing to worry about. We'll take out the BM-21s and carve a path straight to your informant Captain Price."

He leads the team through a burning house where he whispers to the radio in Russian.

"We should just beat it out of him sir," Gaz said bluntly.

"Not yet," Price told him not opposing the idea.

They make it out of the burning structure much to their relief. The relief didn't last long as they saw 20 plus hostile foot mobiles coming from the power station.

"Sir we've got company! Enemy helicopter troops closing in fast!" Gaz warns.

They engage the enemy troops. Soap fires a few grenades from his M203. A soldier throws a grenade at them, but Naruto is quick enough to grab it and throw it back at him. The grenade explodes a second later, killing two enemy soldiers.

"Right back at you asshole, believe it!" Naruto yells.

"You've got balls, Fox," Soap tells him, "I'll give you that."

"Captain Price," Kamarov gets Price's attention, "my men have run into heavy resistance. Help me support them from the cliffs."

"What about our informant? He's running out of time!" Price tells him urgently.

"Then help us!" Kamarov pleads, "The further my men can get into this village, the closer we will be to securing your informant!"

Soap gets out his sniper rifle back out and starts engaging targets. An enemy BMP-2 comes along and starts pinning Kamarov's men down. Naruto pulls out a throwing kunai and attaches some C4 to it. He tosses it at the BMP and pulls the trigger on the detonator. The BMP explodes taking it out, allowing for Kamarov's men to push forward.

"Good! Now we are making progress," Kamarov informs them, "Follow me to the power station."

They head to the power station where Kamarov leads them to a part of the fence with an opening in the fence. From there they see two BM-21s in the field next to a large house. They see machine gunners firing from the windows at Kamarov's men next to a wall. Kamarov takes out his binoculars.

"Look," he tells the team, "The final assault has begun. With a little more of your sniper support, we are sure to be victorious. Captain Price, I need to ask one more favor from you and your men."

It was at this point that Gaz lost his patience and grabbed Kamarov.

"Enough sniping!" Gaz snaps, "Where is the informant?"

He hangs Kamarov over the edge of the wall. Kamarov starts cursing in Russian.

"Where is he?!"

"The house…" Kamarov reveals nervously, coughing a little, "the house at the Northeast end of the village!"

"Well that wasn't so hard now was it?" Gaz asks mockingly as he lets Kamarov go, "Now go sit in the corner."

"Gaz, Soap, Fox, we've gotta reach that house before anything happens to the informant. Let's go!" Price orders the team. The hook up to the ledge as they repel down from the cliff.

Once they make it down from the ledge, they find the Loyalists firing RPGs at the BM-21s destroying them, seemingly completing their objective. The team fights their way through more Ultranationalists with 2 more BMPs to their aid. Naruto sneaks behind them and places a block of C4 on each of them. He blows the charges destroying any remaining resistance between the team and the informant.

"Bloody hell let's move," Price orders, "He may still be alive."

They make it to the house and find no one outside guarding it, but that didn't mean there weren't any hostiles inside the building.

"Gaz, go around back and cut the power. Soap, Fox, get ready," Price orders. Gaz heads around to the back where the circuit breaker was. Price, Soap, and Naruto get on either side on the door with their night vision goggles down.

"Gaz, do it," Price tells Gaz. He smashes the circuit breaker with the butt of his rifle stock. Sparks go flying and the lights go off.

"Alright I've cut the power," Gaz informs them, "Go."

Price enters first, then Soap and Naruto follow him in. There's one guy complaining to someone in the house that the power is out. Naruto takes him out with a headshot.

"These night vision goggles make it too easy, ya know," said Naruto.

"Too right, mate," Soap replies. They continue through their way through the house. They see one guy hugging the wall with a pistol. Soap takes him out. It was at this time Gaz came in.

"Fox, Gaz, you check the basement. Soap and I will check upstairs," Price tells them.

"Roger that," Naruto replies. Naruto and Gaz head down to the basement where they hear a mysterious voice.

"Well, it seems that the Ultranationalists have failed in keeping this town secure. Guess we'll just have to kill you now."

Gaz and Naruto look at each other wondering who the hell that was. Naruto pulled out a flashbang preparing to throw it into the room.

"It won't do you any good," another voice said. Although the second voice sounded familiar to Naruto.

"Hmm, and to think that a jonin and your pathetic little band of chunin could easily get yourselves caught. But then again, you trying to attack a group of soldiers armed with modern rifles was such a stupid idea. Hope you said your last goodbyes, because you won't be going back to your pathetic village."

Just as the mysterious person was about to kill his prisoners, a loud flashing noise sounded blinding the person and the prisoners while also deafening them. Gaz and Naruto made short work of the mysterious person and his companions.

"Clear," Naruto declared. He then got a look at the prisoners and froze.

"Fox, what's wrong?" Gaz asked. Naruto didn't say anything; he just looked at the prisoners. He noticed something that he never thought he would see again. All four of the prisoners had headbands with the symbol of the Village Hidden in the Leaves on their forehead protectors. When they came to they all laid their eyes on the person that disappeared from the Leaf 10 long years ago.

"No way!" the kunoichi with pink hair said, "It can't be."

"It can't be that loser!" said one of the male ninjas.

The ninja with the headband covering his left eye and the mask covering his face just stared at the blond haired soldier with whisker marks on his face.

"Naruto!" the masked ninja exclaimed.

"No way," Naruto said in disbelief, "what the fuck are you doing here?"

"This is Naruto Uzumaki?" said the pale looking ninja. Gaz's eyes just widened as they figured out his teammate's real name. Naruto laid his eyes on the ninja squad from the Hidden Leaf Village hoping that this was just a dream, but it wasn't.

Meanwhile back on the top floor, Soap and Price were clearing the floor of hostiles looking for the informant. They made it to a room on the far end of the hall when they took out a soldier with a flashlight firing blindly into the hall. Soap just ended him with a well aimed burst to the head. Price and Soap enter the room to find a man sitting in a corner looking a bit dazed and beat up. He asked them something in Russian. Soap just held the flashlight that dropped earlier to his face to get a good look.

"It's him," Price confirmed.

"Nikolai," Soap said, "are you alright? Can you walk?"

"Yes," Nikolai answered as Price handed him an AKS-74U carbine, "and I can still fight. Thank you for getting me out of here."

"Gaz, Fox," Price spoke in the radio, "We found Nikolai, what's your status?"

"We're in the basement, sir," Gaz answered, "There are four prisoners down here, you might wanna come down and take a look yourself."

They make it down to the basement where they find the newly freed ninjas from the Hidden Leaf Village.

"Well I'll be damned," Price said, "I never thought I would get to see the mighty Kakashi Hatake get taken prisoner."

The masked ninja now named Kakashi Hatake just glared at the SAS captain as he mocked him.

"Well despite that I want to thank you for helping us, even if saving us wasn't your main objective," Kakashi said.

"They were taken prisoner along with me," Nikolai explained, "They were after the Akatsuki trying to find intel on their plans, and why they were working with the Ultranationalists."

"Who are the others?" Soap asked referring to the other ninjas that were with Kakashi.

"This is the squad that is under my command, Team 7," Kakashi introduced to the SAS team, "This is Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Sai, my chunin students, and I'm their jonin sensei, Kakashi Hatake."

"Well, that's all fine and good, but since we've got Nikolai we should go now," Naruto said wanting to get away from these ninjas and put that part of his life behind him.

"Naruto wait," Kakashi stopped him. Naruto just froze at his name. "Finding out what the Akatsuki were doing wasn't our only mission. The Hokage has also tasked us with finding you and bringing you home."

"Yeah, well, that'll have to wait," Price explained, "Right now we've gotta get out of here before more Ultranationalists or Akatsuki show up. You can either come with us or find your own way back home."

Kakashi just looked at his team. They each had a silent conversation and then looked back at Naruto, apparently already making their decision. They just found Naruto Uzumaki, and they weren't gonna head back to the village without him. Naruto let out a groan.

"Alright fine," Naruto reluctantly agreed, "You can come with us, but you do what we say, when we say it. Is that clear?"

The Leaf shinobi nodded.

"Alright let's go," Price ordered, "Hammer 2-6 this is Bravo 6. We have the package. Meet as LZ One. Over."

"Bravo 6 this is Hammer 2-6. We're on our way. Out."

Sasuke, Sakura, and Sai grabbed a weapon and spare magazines from the table in the basement. Sasuke grabbed a Mini-Uzi submachine gun, Sai grabbed a Vz.61 Skorpion machine pistol, and Sakura grabbed a Beretta M9 pistol. Kakashi didn't grab a weapon because he felt he had to put his squad first before himself.

They made their way out of the house towards a field where the MH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, callsign Hammer 2-6, was landing. Two SAS soldiers, Paulsen and Hoyt, came out to secure the perimeter while the team boarded the helicopter. Once everyone was aboard, Paulsen and Hoyt climbed back on board and manned minigun turrets. Nikolai just remembered something, so he tapped Captain Price's shoulder to get his attention.

"Have the Americans already attacked Al-Asad?" Nikolai asked.

"No their invasion begins in a few hours," Price replied, "Why?"

"The Americans are making a mistake," Nikolai explained, "They will never take Al-Asad alive."

Everyone was confused by that last part, but they put it the back of their minds. For now, their main focus was making to the safehouse in Hamburg, Germany; hopefully without too much more trouble.

And that'll be it for this chapter. Bravo team rescues not only Nikolai, but Team 7 from the Leaf Village as well. And Naruto is not too happy to see them. Will he find it in his heart to try to rebuild his relationship with the village starting with Team 7? Who knows?

Now I could've chosen any other team from the Konoha 12 (I say 12 because Sai replaces Naruto in this story) for Naruto to rescue, but I feel like Team 7 gets a lot of flak for sort of being a dysfunctional team with how it was set up. So, I'm just adding more fuel to the fire by also bashing Team 7. I did say that this was a Konoha bashing story.

Next time:

"What the hell is that?"

"Incoming missile! Hang on!"
