Previously on Naruto: Modern Warfare.
Team 7 and Bravo Team return to the UK. Kakashi explains how they were captured and the Akatsuki were collaborating with the Russian Ultranationalists. The shinobi saw a glimpse of how capable of a warrior Naruto was. They also saw how Naruto was well-known to the people of Hereford. They ponder how they're going to bring back to the Hidden Leaf Village, but Naruto made it very clear he would never go back.
Now the shinobi find themselves preparing a surprise party for a certain someone.
"Surprise"
October 10, 2011 – 19:21:41
Hereford, UK
2nd Lt. Naruto "Fox" Uzumaki
22nd SAS Regiment
Naruto was walking down the streets of Hereford. He had been called by Captain Price to the local Japanese restaurant, the Shinobi's Drinking Hole (AN: I know. I can't think of anything else.), for something important. Was it a briefing for a new mission? If so, why couldn't it wait until morning?
Meanwhile at said Japanese restaurant, the shinobi were assisting Price, Gaz, Soap, and the restaurant staff setting up decorations. It was Naruto's birthday, and it was decided that the Leaf ninjas should make themselves useful and help with the setup. They also had to each buy Naruto a present, which was then inspected by the SAS to see if they were genuine or half assed. As soon as they finished setting up the decorations in a reserved section of the restaurant, a shadow clone that Kakashi had placed on lookout dispersed, sharing the memories back to Kakashi.
"Naruto is close to the restaurant," Kakashi told Price.
"Ok, everyone get ready," Price told them.
Naruto walked in and was greeted by the owner of the Shinobi's Drinking Hole at the front counter.
"Ah, Lt. Uzumaki, welcome back."
"Hey, Old Man Watanabe," Naruto warmly greeted the owner, Watanabe Hayugo, after knowing him for the last ten years, "Have you seen Pop? He said he wanted to meet me here for something important."
"Ah, yes, Captain Price is in the back. This way," Watanabe said as he led Naruto to the back area of the restaurant normally reserved for parties.
In said back area, one of the restaurant employees saw Naruto walking towards the party area.
"Shh, here he comes," the employee whispered to the group.
"Get to cover," Price told everyone as they made themselves hidden. Naruto walked in the party room.
"Ok, what's so important that I had to-"
"SURPRISE!"
Naruto jumped back a bit when everyone jumped out of cover with a giant banner that said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NARUTO!" on it. Naruto saw Price, Gaz, Soap, Wallcroft, Griffen, Kakashi, Sasuke, Sai, Sakura, and a few of the restaurant staff were there to greet him.
Naruto got over the shock and went over to Price and gave him a bear-hug. "You got me bloody good, Pop," Naruto chuckled.
"That I did, lad," Price responded warmly, "Now let's get a drink."
"Hope Gaz has enough to cover the tab," Naruto said, jabbing slightly at Gaz, who started to worry about how much money was going to be gone from his bank account.
Kakashi looked at Naruto and Price, feeling guilty and jealous that he wasn't the one to raise Naruto or teach him how to be a ninja. Scratch that last part; Price didn't teach him how to be a ninja. He taught him to be a soldier; a soldier who could somehow use and master Ninjutsu, as well as seals. Sure, Naruto had his father's notes on learning the Rasengan, but he wondered who taught him Ninjutsu. His thoughts were interrupted when he heard some other people entering the restaurant. A few of them he instantly recognized, while one of them, he had seen someone with similar features.
"Happy Birthday, Naruto. Sorry that we arrived late, bro," Killer B, jinchuriki of the Eight-Tailed Ox (AN: I really have no idea on what most of the tailed beasts are, I just looked it up. Bear with me), rapped.
"B, I swear if I hear you rap one more time…," Yugito Nii, jinchuriki of the Two-Tailed Cat, growled as she had to put up with B's incessant rapping on their way to the restaurant.
"Now come on, Yugito," B complained, "Why you gotta be so mean?"
"Because your gonna cause us to be admitted for insanity with your singing," Fu, jinchuriki of the Seven-Tailed Beetle, deadpanned for Yugito.
Naruto chuckled at their bickering, having known them for a few years now. He then caught a glimpse of a certain redhead that walked in with the group.
"Karin," called out Naruto, "thought you weren't gonna make it today, ya know."
"Why would I miss my cousin's birthday party?" Karin Uzumaki replied as she hugged.
Naruto chuckled a bit before responding, "Yeah, you're right. Come on in. Let's eat and get drunk."
The jinchuriki and the Uzumaki cheered out loud as they went to get food and booze. Kakashi just stared dumbfounded as he saw 3 jinchuriki from the Hidden Cloud Village and the Hidden Waterfall Village. What were they doing here in the UK? Sure, the Akatsuki were hunting down the jinchuriki to harvest their Tailed Beasts, so this meant their villages had to put protective measures in place to keep them safe. But what the hell were they doing far away from the Elemental Nations? It was common knowledge in the Elemental Nations that jinchuriki were the ultimate weapons and deterrence for the Hidden Ninja Villages. If one village attempted to kidnap another village's jinchuriki, it was seen as a declaration of war. Yet, here in this restaurant were three of them interacting with the former jinchuriki of the Leaf Village as if they were old friends. And did that red-headed woman call Naruto her cousin? Could she be his adopted cousin, or was she a member of the Uzumaki clan? So many questions were swirling in Kakashi's mind.
As they came over to the party area, B, Yugito, and Fu went to get some food and drinks while Karin went over with Naruto to talk to the SAS. They discussed things for a while before they were approached by the Leaf Shinobi, which Karin quickly surmised.
"So, these are the Leaf Shinobi you had to save in Russia?" said Karin who was clearly unimpressed, "I'm gonna be perfectly honest about each one of you. You're a power-hungry emo bastard who puts down anyone under them. You're a creepy sociopath who's part of a black ops unit led by a power-hungry cripple. You're a screaming banshee who's obsessed with getting emo over here to fuck you. And you, the Jonin sensei, who's a lazy and pathetic liar who couldn't even bother to try and be there for my cousin when he was constantly abused when he was younger."
In the span of 60 seconds, Karin accurately described Sasuke, Sai, Sakura, and Kakashi, respectively, while insulting them at the same time. The last part really hit Kakashi hard, because during his time in the ANBU, one of his duties was to keep an eye on Naruto so nobody would kill him. That was it. He wasn't allowed to actually take care of him. So, in a sense Karin got it right, but at the same time she was wrong about him not being there for Naruto.
Not wanting to cause a scene at Naruto's birthday party, Kakashi calmed down Sasuke and Sakura, who looked like they were ready to kill the strange red head they just met for insulting them. Kakashi then turned to Karin, "You said you were Naruto's cousin? Forgive me for saying this, but I get the feeling you were at one point a kunoichi. Am I correct?"
"Well, I guess you aren't as dumb as I first thought. Technically we aren't related per se, but we're both members of the Uzumaki clan. That's about as close to family as we are. And for your second question, I was a kunoichi of Hidden Grass Village, but I left a long time ago."
"So, what made you come all the way here to Britain?" Sasuke asked.
"This was about 7 years ago," Karin explained, "The Grass Village was abusing my mother and I for out abilities. My mother died due to chakra exhaust healing wounded ninjas. Then they started to use me for the same purpose. One day, the village was attacked. I saw a way out and I took it. I ran as far away as I could from the Grass. Naturally, I was declared a rogue ninja and they sent Hunter ninjas after me. I was prepared to make a last stand when they cornered me into a cave, when all of a sudden I heard loud thunderous cracks going off in rapid succession. I never heard anything like that before, so I closed my eyes and covered my ears thinking I was about to die. It stopped after a few seconds. I opened my eyes and saw the hunters were dead. Then I met these men in green camouflage uniforms. Turns out they were Japanese Special Forces on a mission. They told me they were on a mission to rescue any remaining members of the Uzumaki clan. I almost didn't believe them. But when they said that Naruto Uzumaki was looking for me from Britain, I took that chance to find others of my clan. They brought me on board a helicopter to mainland Japan. From there I hopped on the first airplane to the UK. When I arrived, I saw Naruto waiting for me with Captain Price. At first, I didn't believe it. But then he told me about how he ended up here, about his parents, and his status of being the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tailed Fox. It was a lot to take in. From then on, I lived here helping where I could."
Kakashi stood there taking in the information. He knew there were survivors of Uzumaki clan, but as far as he knew, they were few and far between. The only other member of the Uzumaki clan he had met was the Fourth Hokage's wife, Kushina Uzumaki, Naruto's mother. To think that there were more Uzumaki survivors. He thought maybe they could bring them back to the Leaf Village where they could potentially rebuild the Uzumaki clan, as they had been allies since the Hidden Leaf Village's founding.
"Cake time, everyone!" Watanabe called out as he brought in the cake. That got everyone excited. They sang Naruto happy birthday (AN: The one from Metal Gear Sold 5. That one is so much better), and watched him blow out his candles, but not before smacking Price when he tried using the candles to light his cigar. Naruto playfully shook his head at Price's antics. Everyone was having a good time. Well, except for the Leaf Shinobi. They felt out of place here. For Kakashi, it made him regret not being with his sensei's son more often when Naruto was a kid. As far as he can remember, Naruto spent his birthdays alone, with no one to celebrate with. During his time in the ANBU Black Ops, one of his duties was to look out for Naruto from a distance. That meant he couldn't interact with Naruto, giving him the love and attention he desperately needed. It was this assignment that he questioned orders, albeit not out loud, on why he wasn't allowed to be there for him. It pissed him off, knowing he couldn't be there for him, especially on his birthday. Yet here he was, all grown up, surrounded by friends and family, due to Price adopting him.
Sasuke just stood there and watched as Naruto was celebrating his birthday. For as long as he can remember, Naruto was the dead-last loser who had no friends, no clan, no family. Although he somewhat understood what it's like to be alone after the Uchiha Massacre, he still belittled Naruto for being an idiot, feeling somewhat superior due to being in the Uchiha clan. Now here he was being surrounded by people who not only acknowledged him, but respected and trusted him. It made him wonder if things had turned out differently in the Academy, would he and Naruto be friends?
Sakura was in a similar dilemma. During their time in the Academy, Naruto would be at the receiving end of her fist, even when he wasn't trying to ask her for a date and just wanted to be nice to her. She just saw him as nothing more than an idiot desperate to seduce her. Now here he is, not only mature, but he had the balls to stand up to her and call her out on the abuse he received from her. It made her think that all this time he was just looking for someone to be his friend. Maybe the gift she got him will be the first step to make amends.
Sai just stood there with a blank look on his face. But he was thinking of how he was going to report this to Lord Danzo. Sai was a member of a secret unit within the ANBU Black Ops called the Foundation. It was created by Leaf Council member Danzo Shimura for the sole purpose of serving his purposes. One of the missions given to the Foundation was to locate Naruto Uzumaki and bring him directly to Danzo. Danzo had long since wanted to get his hands on Naruto and turn him into a mindless weapon to be used by the Leaf. However, the Third Hokage intervened and forbade Danzo from laying a finger on Naruto. When Naruto left the village, he was pissed that the Village's secret weapon was now in the hands of the West. As such, he ordered his operatives to follow any rumors that may lead him to the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tailed Fox. Ten long years of searching, and Sai just so happened to find Naruto by accident.
Each of their thoughts were interrupted when they heard the TV go off.
"Good evening," a female news caster from the BBC reported, "We now bring you the latest news in the US intervention in Arabia. The US and Arabian militaries have made quick progress throughout the country pushing back the Lion's Sword, with the capital city of Riyadh being retaken within 3 days of the invasion. After heavy fighting today, US Marines began their push into the city of Al Qunfudhah, where a division of Al-Asad's forces are making a last stand. Fighting has intensified in the inner city. Anti-air fire and burning buildings light the night sky. Sporadic fighting can be heard on the outskirts of Al Qunfudhah as the bulk of Al-Asad's forces have either fallen back towards the inner city or have retreated to Al-Asad's command center in the city of Jeddah."
"Heh, I bet Vasquez and Griggs are making their platoon work overtime to win that war," Naruto said.
"I wouldn't be surprised if they won it by tomorrow," Gaz piped in, "I wonder if Griggs is still carrying that God-awful mix CD?"
"He is, believe it."
Gaz and Naruto chuckled at that. They had worked with Vasquez and Griggs before, and they had the misfortune to listen to Griggs' choice in music.
"Daddy!"
Naruto and Gaz turned their heads to the sound of a little girl running towards Soap. Soap knelt and picked up the girl, laughing as he did.
"Good to see you sweetheart," Soap said, "Where's your mother?"
"Madelynn MacTavish, I thought I told you not to run off!"
A woman in her late 20s with brown hair came in. She took the girl named Madelynn from Soap's arms and held her in her own.
"Sorry Mommy," Madelynn apologized to her mother. The woman came over and gave Soap a kiss.
"Sorry we're late," the woman apologized to Soap.
"It's alright, love," Soap said to the woman, "Just as long as you were able to make it."
"Hey Soap," Naruto called out as he walked over to Soap, "Is this your family?"
"Aye," Soap replied, "This is my wife, Alice, and this little ball of energy is my daughter Madelynn."
"Soap?" Alice looked at her husband with disbelief. Soap just gave her a sheepish look and nervous chuckle.
"Well, it's nice to meet you," Naruto shook Alice's hand, "I'm your husband's teammate, 2nd Lt. Naruto Uzumaki."
"Nice to meet you," Alice replied. Madelynn looked at Naruto with curiosity, specifically at his whisker scars. Naruto noticed this.
"Hey there, Madelynn," Naruto greeted himself, "If you don't mind me saying, you look a lot like your dad."
"Thank you," Madelynn said, "um, can I ask why you do you have those whiskers on your face?"
"Madelynn," Alice chastised her daughter, "it's rude to ask someone about their face."
"It's fine, ma'am," Naruto reassured, "To answer your question Madelynn, I was born with these."
"Ooohhh," Madelynn realized, "ok. They make you look like a cute fox."
Naruto responded by giving Madelynn his signature foxy grin and saying, "I never really thought of that before."
Soon after, the party guests gave Naruto presents. B gave Naruto a copy of his new album, which wasn't released yet. Karin gave Naruto a hoodie for the Hereford Football Club. Gaz got Naruto a gift certificate to the restaurant.
"Thanks, Gaz," Naruto said, "Next time, I'll buy drinks. Just don't go overboard, ya know."
"No promises on that, mate," Gaz quipped.
Now it was the Leaf ninjas' turn to give Naruto their presents. Even though the SAS had checked their gifts to see if they put in the effort, they still feared it wouldn't be enough to impress Naruto.
"Here you go Naruto," Sai said with a blank look, "As I understand, orange is your favorite color, right?" He gave Naruto an orange bomber jacket with black trims. Naruto just looked at it with a deadpan look considering he already had one, but he figured Sai was working with information about him when he was a child.
"Thanks, Sai," Naruto said plainly as he tried it on, "It looks good on me."
Sai nodded and went back to eating. Up next was Sakura, and she was hoping her gift would suffice.
"I stopped by an arts & craft shop and made you this bracelet," Sakura explained as she gave the bracelet she made to Naruto, "It's made out chakra stones I was saving for later, but I figured you'd want to have them. They're made with seals to activate any chakra tags, so you can use them to activate any traps you set up. You tend to do that, right?"
Naruto just looked at Sakura for a minute. Sakura was nervous that it wasn't enough, or that it was a stupid question she asked Naruto, considering he had to set up a few ambushes from time to time.
"Thanks, Sakura."
Sakura let out a sigh of relief when Naruto accepted her gift. Now it was the emo Uchiha's turn.
"Here," Sasuke muttered. Naruto took the gift.
"What's this? You're actually being nice to me for once in your life?"
Sasuke growled at Naruto's jab. Naruto opened the present and it revealed itself to be a set of dog tags, with the symbol of the Uzumaki clan on them.
"Since I found out you were a part of a clan, I thought about getting you something related to it. I couldn't find anything at any stores, but I figured since you were a soldier, you'd want something military-related. There was this store that made those custom 'dog tags,' as you call them. I asked them to make that specific symbol after I asked Kakashi-sensei what the Uzumaki clan symbol looked like. Hope you like it."
That last part Sasuke muttered, but Naruto heard it. He looked at the tags for a few seconds before putting them on.
"Thanks," Naruto muttered as well, but Sasuke heard that too. Last, but not least, Kakashi.
"This one I actually held onto for years," Kakashi explained as he handed it to Naruto.
Naruto opened it up and it held several kunai knives that belonged to a certain someone.
"These are…"
"Your father's Flying Thunder God kunai," Kakashi finished for Naruto, "Your father wanted you to have these when you were old enough. I've kept them in good condition so when you were found, I could give these to you."
Naruto was quiet for a good minute. Kakashi was worried he might've upset Naruto until gave him a quiet thank you.
The rest of the night went uninterrupted until it was closing time. Everyone had a good time. The SAS and shinobi went back to base to rest up for another day of training in the morning.
And that'll do it for this chapter. Sorry if this chapter took a while to upload. I wanted to upload it on October 10th so it would fit in with the story (sorta), but college, work, and writer's block got in the way. Finals are coming up for me, and I'm a little stressed out. But hopefully I can get back to writing this story and my other stories as soon as possible. Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter.
Next time:
"Be advised, more enemy troops are converging on the tank. Get there, ASAP!"
"Roger that! We're working on it – out!"
