A/N – I know it's been a while but I've been dealing with some medical issues that make sitting for long stretches uncomfortable. That said, this chapter is almost 12000 words long so as long as at least 2 chapters so I hope that makes up for it. I hope you enjoy it, I enjoyed writing it and thank you all for the reviews and the PM's, I really do love hearing your thoughts so keep them coming.
Chapter 109
Ty stirred in bed, rubbed his eyes and stretched. His hand fell to his left where he discovered that the familiar body he had woke to for the past week was absent. He stretched his senses a bit and hearing nothing in the bathroom directed his attention past the door to a low conversation he heard outside on the second floor landing coupled with the low whir of a vacuum cleaner and music further off.
He wasn't used to people in the house which was somewhat disconcerting to him at the moment before he realized that it was Friday and guests and family would be arriving in the afternoon. Amy had mentioned that the Grayzel's would be by with a housekeeping crew to get the house ready, rooms made up, food restocked and a light cleaning.
Leaning on his elbow so he could see out he lowered the opacity on the window and looked at the view; it was snowing, it had started late the afternoon before at a pretty good clip and glancing down a decent amount had fallen overnight, more than they originally expected. Not enough to keep anyone from coming for the weekend, but more than enough to cancel any other trailers and horses. They'd use snowmobiles or ATV's to get around if they wanted.
Lastly, he reached for his phone. He glanced down at the emails that could wait, no calls or messages and one text, from Amy. "Good morning husband, in the study with coffee and rolls." They had compromised while here deciding that they'd have coffee and breakfast while taking care of the albeit light work load sent over from Cornell and Pegasus.
The only other compromise would be Amy reading the final draft of her textbook, a little every day. They'd come back from a nice trail ride, grab a hot drink and settle by a fire on the couches in any of the four areas of the house where this set up existed. They'd snuggle, Amy would read her book and Ty would read any number of veterinary cases and texts either needing review or suggested by Bert.
The truth was very plain to him after a week, he had never been that satisfied, relaxed and at home in his mind and his body as he was that time. They took long walks, long trail rides and even a long drive where they searched out fall farmer's markets on Wednesday which seemed to be market day in the area. One night they watched Casablanca in the theatre. They didn't speak much through the week, or at least it didn't feel that way to him. They just spent the time together, part of each other's sphere and space, it was as far as he could tell, the perfect honeymoon.
Before getting up Ty texted back to Amy "Showering, down in a few, love you." On the way to the bathroom he flicked the stereo on and a second later was greeted by the sounds of Santana filling the room. He was immediately transported back to the night of the wedding and the after party. He smiled stepping under the hot shower spray remembering back to that night.
Amy had stopped a few steps into the suite and leaned back against him with a deep sigh as her body relaxed, He placed his hands gently around her and turned her to him. They kissed as he found the gown's zipper and freed her from the form fitting dress which she then held up as she made her way into the closet to hang up neatly. He dropped his jacket onto the bed and undid his tie and the top button on his shirt as he stepped into the expansive closet and they kissed and held each other again before she squirmed and whispered "Ty ?"
Ty smiled and glanced down "You have to pee."
"Really bad."
They didn't have much time to waste and Amy really wanted to sit in a robe for a few minutes and nurse a cup of coffee without the worry of spilling it so that's what they did.
They sat in the small seating area caddy corner in two leather seats. They both wore their robes that they had found hanging in the closet and a welcoming sight. Amy took a big sip and leaned back closing her eyes and swallowing slowly.
"Tired ?" Ty asked.
"Not really but the quiet is nice. It's weird for me to have three or 4 hours of continuous noise, the talking and music, restaurant sounds. You sort of go with it but then when you hit the silence again, I don't know."
"It almost overwhelms your senses, I know what you mean."
Ty had not seen Amy's after party outfit as he really hadn't seen her gown so after coffee he watched as she zipped down the garment carrier and pulled it out. It wasn't really anything like the gown except in the creamy white color. He knew instinctively looking at it on the hanger that it would hug her body. It was clearly designed to make her the centerpiece of any room she wore it in. He wasn't sure at all what went into designing and manufacturing a cloth that would almost reflect and refract light but seeing it he understood that it would accentuate every move she made and in Latin dance that would stand out. He also had no doubt that it was exactly what she had asked for, a dress that would tantalize and arouse him all evening long.
He pulled out a single breasted dark grey silk and wool suit and a crisp silk blend white shirt. They dressed side by side with Ty taking a moment to watch Amy stretch a new pair of stockings over her legs and then clip them to her white garter belt. He helped her drop the dress over her head taking care to keep it away from her hair and face as best he could and then he zipped it for her slowly. She stood in front of the mirror as he tightened his belt and reached for his shirt which he pulled on just as there was a gentle knock at the door.
"I'll get it" he murmured buttoning his shirt as he walked to the door and reaching for the handle. He had a list of those that he would have expected on the other side of the door, the twins, Bobby and Brin were not on it.
The twins immediately smiled and stepped forward for hugs and kisses as Amy walked out of the closet carrying her shoes and smiled.
"Mom's a bit delayed at the house so she asked me to make sure you were good Amy."
"Thanks Brin, is there a problem home ?"
"Dad's on the phone with the hospital, she doesn't think he'll have to go until morning so that's good. Probably no drinking for him though, here Amy, sit down and let me touch you up."
Ty stepped away and finished dressing except for his jacket which lay on the bed where his suit jacket lay a few minutes before. He grabbed a beer and sat down in one of the easy chairs, took a sip and watched his teenagers.
Brin who seemed to dress more conservatively than the twins was wearing a midi dress that stopped just below her knees, stockings and black shoes. The dress was very well fitted and hugged her figure, it was mostly dark blue from just above her stomach. Above that the dress was a lighter blue made of crepe and lace which ran down her arms. She wore what looked like a simple small sapphire and Diamond broach on a gold chain around her neck with matching earrings. As always it was Brin's hair and make-up that made her stand out. She accentuated her hazel eyes giving the illusion that they had blue flecks and managed to make her hair shine like silk, straight down, held off her face by two simple barrettes, she was truly stunning.
Bobby wore a leather sport coat, black and gray striped shirt, black ariats and what looked like laced short boots similar to Ty's.
The girls wore what he was coming to realize was their style. They wore decidedly shorter dresses than Brin. Their dresses were dark green for Maddie and dark blue for Charlie, both sequined affairs which ended several inches above their knees. They each wore dark hose of some sort and short laced boots. They also wore striped silk jackets matching the colors of their dresses. Their makeup, also done by Brin was slightly loud but seemed to fit their excitement and the occasion and each came with somewhat of an elaborate sparkling Mardi Gras flourish painted on. Ty thought they were both beautiful.
Ty looked over after Amy, now covered in a smock to protect her dress, leaned in to check her hair in the mirror and then behind her as Brin held the large mirror allowing her to see.
"It's nice Brin." Amy said sitting forward again.
"What am I doing with your face Amy ?"
"Meaning ?" Amy asked her voice tentative.
"Pop of color, a little zing or looking like mom did it ?"
Ty laughed at the comment and Amy smiled as well.
"How about a compromise, like 50/50 ?" Amy asked her eyebrows raised.
"60/40 ?" Brin asked scrunching her face a bit.
"Go for it Ames."
"You heard him Brin."
"So goodbye case 1" Brin murmured snapping Meg's case closed and reaching for a smaller case she must have brought with her. Ty watched as Brin set up a white towel and laid out tools, mostly brushes and two tweezers. She also lifted an accordion section of the box and moved confidently pulling out tubes and bottles and a small tin which sounded like it had something like small stones inside. He watched as she started on Amy's cheeks and was distracted when the door knock came.
A second later the soft voice came through the door "it's Lou and Katie, you need any help ?"
Maddie got the door for them and Katie immediately moved over to the teenagers and Lou stopped by Amy.
"Ty, pull up a chair for Lou please." Amy said indicating a space close to her.
As Ty dropped the chair and held out his hand for Lou to steady her as she sat he glanced over and was watching Brin set a small crystal onto Amy's face. She had painted a small design in a silver tinged with soft blue coming off of Amy's left eye. There was a smaller design on her other eye. Both eyes were for the most part almost bare except for a slight silver blue shimmery highlight.
"Ty ?"
"Brin ?"
"You're staring."
"Oh sorry, yeah, I was."
Ty returned to his chair and smiled at Maddie and Charlie who were watching him and glancing over as Brin moved on to Amy's lips which weren't getting much.
While Brin was tidying her space her phone beeped and glancing down she announced that the band was ready.
"Before we go let me take care of something." Amy announced padding over to the closet and coming out a moment later carrying four blue velvet boxes, each marked with a gold embossed initial on the cover.
"Girls, Ty and I would like you to have these as gifts from us."
"I love gifts." Brin said softly and clapping lightly. She smiled at Amy and took on that totally attentive look she had a way of doing.
Amy looked down and handed each their box as she said their names corresponding to the initial on the box, "Katie, Maddie, Brin and Charlie."
Lou came over to stand by Katie as the rest clustered and opened the boxes. Each box contained a cleverly designed adjustable diamond tennis bracelet and each girl stared at it for a few seconds in silence before the explosion of excitement that let forth.
"Oh Amy, they're beautiful." Lou whispered looking over at Katie's and then the other girl's open boxes.
Katie took the bracelet in her hand and then gave it over to Lou while putting down the box. A second later Lou was fastening it to her wrist. Brin and Mad seemed to be taking care of themselves while Amy handled Charlie's. Next came the hugs, first for her and then Ty as they held their wrists out and adjusted their sleeves to accommodate the bracelets.
She looked over at Bobby who now had his arm around Charlie's waist and was looking at the bracelet she was showing him. "It's beautiful Charlie, like you." Ty saw Charlie smile and lean up to kiss him lightly.
Amy smiled at the couple "Bobby, tomorrow morning your gift will be on the saddle rack at home, Ty and I got you a new ranch saddle."
"Oh awesome, I was about to try and glue the fenders on mine back in place so I could sew them back on."
"Well you won't have to now" Ty added laughing. "Should we go ?"
Amy sat down for a second and slipped on her shoes before taking his hand in hers.
"Are there instructions Brin ?"
"Same as before, they'll play when you hit the dance floor."
"Let's not keep our guests waiting then. Tell 'em we are on the way Brin, a bachata please."
Brin smiled at the request and stopped with Mad for a second to text.
The band was called the One O'Clock Latin Jazz Ensemble it was an Ithaca legacy band consisting of 8 hand picked graduate jazz students in the Ithaca College performance school. Sabrina accompanied at least 5 of them on solo performances as far as Amy knew, maybe more. She promised Ty that they were the best he would find around here and Trev concurred having attended several local events where they had played.
Amy broke away from Ty as soon as they reached the bottom of the porch steps, raised her arms over her head and walked onto the dance floor, hips swaying, eyes closed waiting for the beat. Seeing her dance onto the floor the band leader counted the beat off her hips and dropped his arm on cue as two guitars watching him and her matched their start to her rhythm. Several beats later she turned, still swaying and saw Ty smiling 10 feet away where he had stopped and stood watching her display. She smiled and dropped her head into a slight crouch where her right arm stretched out and she beckoned him to her with the crook of her finger before turning away and raising her left hand over her back, resting her right flat against her stomach as she swayed her hips seductively back and forth.
Three steps over he took her left hand, beat twice with the music and spun her to face him, pulling her in with his right arm moving around her back. A second later she swung close as his leg moved between hers and she gyrated against him, a purely Latin dance move and totally sensuous. The girls and Stephanie hooted into the sky at that point as the rest of the band joined in and the floor began filling with dancers.
Erma guessed the number at about 100 – 120 guests who had returned, many ranch employees and locals. Among the ranch hands and more specifically the thoroughbred handlers, exercisers and jockeys a large number of employees hailed from the south from Mexico to Brazil. While there were some of the larger tables set up most were now 4 tops, more nightclub like. The tables had their flowers refreshed, the dinner's floral arrangements were sent back to the florists to be trimmed and sent on to the hospital. A large truck of food was also shipped out to the local food kitchen.
With lights dimmed for the late night, candles in hurricane lamps were now out in force bringing a touch of romance to the tent. A buffet table for late night Latin snacks and sweets was being readied quietly while the dancing went on and two bars and 8 servers made sure that no one went without. The alcohol changed to match the event the wines were from Central America and the beer from Mexico. There were also assorted bottles accumulated on several tables around the room, the personal stash of several aficionados of Latin American alcohol.
After 4 dances, 2 Bachata, a Meringue and a Rhumba both Amy and Ty needed a breather and made their way to several tables drawn together where they saw, John, Trish and Charlie sitting. Moments later Georgie and Wyatt joined them, also out of breath.
"I have no idea what I'm doing out there but I'm having a ball."
Wyatt smiled at Georgie, "I think we're doing great G, rhythm is rhythm."
"You can't really mess it up as long as you have the beat guys" Stephanie said sitting down next to Amy.
"Drink Ty ?" Charlie asked filling a small glass from a very fancy bottle.
"What are we drinking ?"
"Havana Club Máximo Extra, 50 year old Cuban rum."
"Sure Charlie, pour a round."
Charlie smiled and raised his hand for a waiter who stopped immediately.
"I need a dozen shot glasses please."
"Yes sir, I'll have them sent over."
Charlie nodded and turned the glasses he had, filling each carefully. "There were 300 of these bottled in 1958 from a 50 year old cask. Cask strength and smooth as syrup."
"I'm honored that you opened this Charlie, thank you."
"You're very welcome Ty, ah here are some more glasses."
He glanced around the table and filled 8 glasses as Trev, Stephanie, Bert and Meg pulled up seats and were immediately met by a glass.
"What are we drinking to ?" Bert asked lifting his glass and sniffing the contents.
Ty looked up and held up his glass "To all of you, for your acceptance, understanding, help and love these past few months."
"To us !" Charlie agreed laughing and pulled back on his drink.
The rest joined and the tea totters raised their glass for a sip as well.
"Guess he'll get us in the next one Wyatt." Georgie said slamming her glass down. "Fill 'er up Charlie."
"Come on Georgie, that included you, you guys came down for me."
"Sorry bro." Wyatt said looking over "I came down with Georgie."
"Well, Georgie then" Ty countered.
"Sorry Ty, I came down for Amy and Bert."
Amy giggled when Georgie flashed her signature dimpled smile of innocence.
"To Amy and Ty, may your lives together be filled with happiness, laughter, joy, wonder and excitement." Bert announced holding up his second drink.
"Here, here, to Amy and Ty !" Charlie repeated before once again they all poured the amber liquor back.
"That's amazing stuff Charlie."
"Thank you Georgie."
"Hey, go big red."
Amy saw the band getting back from their break and got up to stretch while finishing her drink. She almost didn't notice Brin sidling up to her "have a request ?"
"I don't know Brin, anyone ?"
Trev took Amy's hand and smiled at her "Samba Brin."
"Oh Trev, Ty and I have practiced but …."
"I'll go easy, c'mon Amy, you'll never learn if you don't step out on the dance floor."
"Excellent, I get the handsome and young Dr. Borden, Ty, care to Samba ?"
Over the next couple of hours Amy had no idea how many people she danced with and how many dances she and Ty had with each other. In the end her memory of the evening was one of profound happiness and love. She remembered a dance with Wade, Tim and one with Jack, slow bachatas where style was more unimportant to the dance. She danced with Bobby, Bert, Tappy and Kid all in flurry of faces and laughing. Ty danced with the twins, Brin, Meg, Erma and many others. The grandparents spent the majority of the evening in the library reminiscing rather than on the floor with the loud music though occasionally they made their way out to watch. Charlie and Trev made sure they drank only the best along with snacks that Pavel made sure matched those served in the tent.
The snacks and late evening treats began hitting the buffet tables about an hour in and were refreshed as necessary. They spanned foods from the Mexican border down through Central and South America, both savory and sweet along with platters of ripe fresh fruits and desserts. The bars served mixed virgin fruit drinks made to order, you could also order 12 different flavored daiquiris and at least half a dozen different margaritas.
Three sets later the party was still going strong with the band playing to the excitement in the room, they were exceptional. Amy sat down at a table across from Ty and sipped her mango lime smoothie sighing after she swallowed "that's really good." Ty took a pull on a Corona beer after tossing the lime onto a plate waiting to be collected. Amy leaned in and dipped her churro into her drink before popping it into her mouth. Erma joined them a few minutes later.
"How you doin' sis ?"
Amy smiled "Perfect Erma, is it time ?"
"Getting there."
"Feels that way, we'll start goodnights."
Erma smiled and started to get up and Amy reached put her hand to take hers before she left. They looked at each other for a couple of seconds and Erma smiled and nodded.
Amy took another sip of her drink and looked at Ty.
"What's happening ?" He asked after taking a sip of his beer.
"This party winds down about 30 minutes after we wave goodbye, it's getting to that time."
Ty nodded "ah, ok how about one dance before we make the rounds ?"
"We can definitely accommodate you Dr. Borden."
Their last stops around the tent were with the twins and Meg and Sally just making sure everyone was on the same page with getting to bed at a reasonable time and the like. Their last stop, since their ride to the treehouse was parked out back was through the house to see parents and grands before heading out for the night. They would leave to the Adirondack home after breakfast the following morning.
They found the group relaxing in the living room reminiscing over old photos of Amy and Ty now that what pictures Lily had were transferred to digital formats and enhanced.
"The girls all stopped in before, the bracelets are beautiful Amy."
Amy looked at Lisa and smiled "I might have gone a tad overboard."
"My wife spends money like a drunken sailor on leave."
After a moment the whole group laughed and Jack offered Ty a drink which he declined.
"It's almost impossible to say no out there Jack, I've really had my fill but help yourself, by all means."
Jack nodded and Ty watched as he popped the cork on what appeared to be bourbon in a cut glass bottle he was sure had a story and pour three shots, two of which he handed to Lisa and Betty.
"Jack, I'll have to sleep on the couch."
"Come on Betty, last one and we're off to bed."
"I have to see to the girls."
"Casey and I'll see to the girls Betty, you three can head off."
"Thank you Lily, in that case to the newlyweds !"
After they all sipped the glasses they raised Amy smiled "Thank you all."
"We should go." Ty said standing and holding out his hand for Amy.
"Have a good night kids."
"Thank you Wade, we'll see you all in the morning." Amy answered making her way around for goodbye's followed by Ty who was a bit unsteady bending over and navigating the group.
"You're Ok getting to the treehouse ?" Lisa asked when Ty passed a bit unsteady on his feet.
Amy smiled, "I'm driving, we're fine, the truck with our stuff is still out back ?"
"You're overnight stuff is already in the bedroom at the treehouse and your stuff for the week is packed and ready to be loaded for leaving tomorrow."
"Thanks Gran, I guess we should be on it then, see you all for brunch."
"We have things here honey, enjoy your night and don't worry."
"Thanks Lisa, goodnight everyone."
As they had done all week Ty stopped and straightened up their bedroom including the bed before heading out the door. Down the hall he spotted two women he did not know before Roseanne Grayzel popped her head out of Betty's room and greeted him.
"Good morning Ty, Amy's in the library."
"Good morning Roseanne, she texted, you all Ok up here ?"
"Oh fine and almost done, fresh sheets, dusted and vacuumed, mind if we vacuum your space before heading out to the guest house ?"
"It's all yours, Jonathan outside ?"
"He's almost done and the kids took care of the horses as soon as he cut a path."
"They really didn't have to."
"No but they're really getting into the whole thing, they love the horses who seem to really appreciate the attention."
Ty nodded, he was never going to get used to being cared for including those things he really hated taking care of like cleaning and vacuuming but then again he never owned anything this size before let alone something the size of Pegasus so having a small crew to step in every now and then to dust and vacuum seemed good enough for the present.
Downstairs Ty saw Penny wiping down the kitchen counters and two helpers loading vacuums and cleaning supplies out the front door to what he assumed was a van or truck waiting to pick them up.
"Good morning Ty, Amy's in the library."
"Thanks Penny, you're all Ok ?"
"All done just waiting on Roseanne, what time is your crew coming ?"
"The girls are in school, Jackson's still being tutored at home, I assume if they leave soon after getting dropped off figure around 4:00 or so. Is Jonathan around, does he need help with something ?"
Penny smiled "Putting stuff away, he'll be in soon and it's not your job Ty. What is it about the people who live in this house ?"
"I guess Ruth chose us for a reason."
"I guess so, I'll have Jonathan stop in the library."
Ty nodded and rounded the corner down the hallway to the library where Amy was reclining on a small sofa with a coffee nearby and her iPad perched on the couch in front of her. She smiled and started to move when he waved her back and leaned over to kiss her good morning and then smiling said the word.
"Wife."
"Husband" she answered smiling "it's definitely getting better, maybe a couple more months."
"Months ?" He answered laughing walking over to the carafe of coffee sitting on the desk. He grabbed two fresh rolls which seemed to be a Grayzel honeymoon feature for the week, left on the counter every morning. Technically a breach of protocol but laughingly accepted gratefully.
Amy moved a little allowing room for him to sit upright as she leaned back against him. Her coffee and breakfast was done so Ty easily handled his with Amy snuggling against him.
"The rolls have pistachios and currants, it's pretty nice, we'll have to get some recipes before we leave."
Ty sipped his coffee "I liked the ones with the apricot pieces, that was good."
"I think the roll recipe stays the same and you can switch the spices and add-ins."
He took a bite and smiled as he chewed before noticing that Amy was reading her book.
"This is really good" he agreed "how's that going ?"
"I'm almost done and I haven't found anything that needs changing."
"Then I guess Loren will be all smiles next week."
The small video keypad on the wall by the doors to the library beeped indicating that the front door had been opened. They heard Jonathan speaking to Penny and Roseanne who had obviously come downstairs to see their helpers away. He came down the hall a few seconds later and Ty nudged Amy gently so he could stand.
"Morning folks !" He said popping in the library "all set outside, we're not expecting anymore snow so the rest of the weekend should be nice with a bit of a warmup, want me to get the bedroom patio melting ? Won't take long to dry with the sun this afternoon."
"We may choose a fire outside, why not, thank you Jonathan." Amy said looking up with a smile.
"No problem, Penny mentioned you needed something Ty ?"
"I don't Jonathan, I just mentioned that I could give you a hand outside."
Jonathan laughed "Penny's right, so far the people who've lived here just don't get the whole employer employee thing."
"We get it just fine Jonathan" Amy said standing and heading to the coffee "none of us were raised that way though, see something that needs doing, do it, someone needs help, help them. We're ranchers and farmers."
"Well that's understandable, thanks Ty, I'll get the patio heaters going and leave you two alone."
"Thanks Jonathan, have a good day."
As the morning wore on the couple checked the guest house and the stables. The snow wasn't that bad, a few inches when they expected a dusting, certainly nothing they weren't used to so they decided to take a trail ride, get the horses out and exercised and spend some last truly alone time before the family arrived. They both looked forward to everyone who was coming but it was easy to get used to the quiet alone time.
Rather than taking Spartan and Harley with them, they took Merlin and Jasper, Jackson's horses, aside from them being younger they were both rock solid on new terrain and stalled well together alone. They both checked the plan with JT getting his whole hearted approval.
"Oh sure, Merlin and Jasper are great and I'll watch over Spartan and Harley."
Even with the overnight snow and continuing flurries it really wasn't that cold by either of the couples standards so they wintered themselves a little and headed out to get the horses saddled. They had chosen different trails through the week and decided that for what could very well be their last trail ride here until Spring they picked out a series of trail switches to cover their favorite parts of the property which they had come to love.
They'd obviously missed the fall leaf change but it couldn't really be helped this year, they'd make sure they wouldn't miss it again. The property was beautiful in winter with oaks, maples, spruce and a variety of nut trees that included beech and several black walnut Amy noticed. Small pine groves dotted the land as well as the conservatorship they hoped to be granted. The one major difference between this land and Pegasus conservatorship was that here doing something like cutting down a pine for Christmas wouldn't be an issue. There were abundant willows along the water line along with a host of wild flowers and herbs all through the property. Amy was sure Annabelle would love exploring and mapping the medicinals, once done or maybe while Annabelle worked they'd plant patches of wild remedies. The leaves down and covered with snow the picture they saw and rode through was wonderfully black and white, the tall, bare trees cutting the view into a beautiful mosaic.
Amy had grabbed a thermos of cocoa for the ride and they stopped and rested on a blanket in a heavily covered Pine portion of a sunny meadow which seemed mostly dry. She had also grabbed some oatmeal cranberry cookies so they shared those and some kisses in the quiet morning sun.
"So, John Enchino rode on a horse."
"An amazing accomplishment husband, you should be proud."
"I hear it was Georgie and Wyatt."
"And the kids and Trish, Georgie threatening to never get on a bike until he'd rode on a horse was a kicker though."
"Georgie and the girls have video, should be fun."
They had left the reception in a pickup truck of all things, the road to the treehouse was narrow and not the smoothest. It was a five minute drive and because someone had brought their overnight bags earlier there really wasn't much more that parking and heading up which was fine for them because they were both exhausted.
They saw the treehouse as they approached, the mild outside lights were lit as was the trail from the parking spots behind. Upstairs they realized that someone had lit the fireplaces not long before and they could smell the sweet burning apple Amy favored mixed with an assortment of sweet smells from several flower arrangement placed around the house. Inside Ty stood to help Amy off with her coat and watched as she kicked off her shoes which were flat having changed them at the truck to the pair waiting for her at the back door of the house.
"Champagne ?" Ty asked moving around to the working side of the kitchen counter.
"I guess it wouldn't be much of a wedding night with a cup of tea and a steaming bath huh ?"
"Sounds perfect actually, tea and champagne." Ty said leaning over to kiss her.
Amy smiled and turned to grab a small thermal tea pot and set up a small pot to steep. Ty watched her set up the timer and sit down on a stool. A moment later she was rolling down her stockings and wiggling her toes with a sigh. When she stood again and watched the timer wind down Ty walked up behind her and slid his hand up her thigh, under her dress and over her hip. He pulled her slightly back and moved her head so that he could focus on the pulse point of her neck. His small kisses sent shivers up her spine, her sigh made him smile as did her hand which snuck behind her.
Ty cleared his throat "how about I go and get that tub running ?"
"Ty Borden, you might just be the perfect man."
"I doubt it but I sorta promised to at least be your perfect man so …"
"You are definitely my perfect man my love."
Ty opened the fridge and looked around. He grabbed a half split of champagne along with a small bowl of perfect chocolate covered strawberries that sat on a tray with two champagne flutes that was left for them ready on the counter. He leaned over and kissed her before she watched him walk away and heard him head up the circular stairs just as her steeping timer went off.
Ty lay back against her as the steamy bath water swirled gently, he had become more acclimated to the soaking heat Amy loved. His eyes were closed, one hand held a flute of champagne, the other lay to his side. Amy held him softly and gently ran her fingers up his chest and down to his stomach. He opened his eyes and glanced to the side when her hand stopped and saw her reach for a strawberry.
"Bite ?" She asked holding it out to him.
He leaned in and carefully bit below the chocolate steering clear of the sweet. She never understood his aversion to sweets, a fleeting thought that disappeared the second she bit into the hand turned chocolate and the perfect strawberry.
"These are amazing." Ty murmured taking a sip of the champagne and holding the flute out as an offer to her.
"Mmmmmmm."
"You're fading."
"Let's rinse off in the shower."
Ty smiled "is, uhm, that a euphemism?"
Amy gently pushed against him "I sure hope so" she whispered.
They rode to the closest boundary line on the property. Ty had wanted to check something that had to do with beavers; distances, federal wildlife laws, residences and several other things. He had also borrowed high end binoculars from several ranch people and a couple of Cornell profs to test and looked through a few pair every time out on the trails.
He had also set up several spotting scopes and two telescopes on the large patio outside the bedroom and the patio outside the dining room. While the binoculars were actually research for a couple pair he wanted to get for this house, the spotting scopes were his idea to keeping Jackson occupied up here in the winter while unable to really go anywhere but the house. They had lots of views and Ty thought it was a perfect way to bring the outside just a little closer. Amy thought it was brilliant.
Heading back to the house they rode up the boundary line to the bridge that ran across to the state access road past the house, the plan being to take the road the last bit to calm the horses on an easy familiar surface before stalling. They were both surprised hearing the distinctive sound of other horses on the road coming off the state land and stopped on the edge of the bridge to wait.
"Amy, Ty." Lt. Tarlick said tipping his hat towards them as he came close enough.
"Mike, good to see you." Ty said leaning over to shake his hand as they moved closer and the horses now stood examining each other.
"And you both, congratulations by the way."
"Thank you Mike, you've been Ok, the family ?"
"We're all good Amy and your brood ?"
"Expected up this afternoon, they're fine."
"Well, you all should meet my adjutant Sgt. Carl Sachs, Carl this is Amy Fleming and Ty Borden, they own this property."
"Good to meet you both."
"And you Sergeant." Amy said with a smile. "You here on business or pleasure Mike ?"
"Sort of a pre freeze check, beavers, birds and bears."
"Ah, Archie and Edith." Amy commented.
"Both fattening on the other side of the lake, nuts, berries, it was a good year and she's definitely not carrying. Beaver dams look fine and from what we can see so do the birds. The bears'll climb inside in a few weeks, I doubt you'll see her back on this side before spring."
They rode back together towards the main road and said their goodbyes at the trail turn to the house. Amy made sure to let Mike know that she would love for him and his family to join them for after dinner treats in the break between Christmas and New Year when the family would be up and Mike agreed to see if they could make it as he was unsure of the family plans.
After settling the horses in a sunny paddock behind the house the newlyweds settled in the living room before a small fire Ty started. After deciding that they would head into town for lunch at the small Timberline Café and Bakery. The food was good, the atmosphere friendly and the small bakery was homey and very tasty. They planned to bring back samples to welcome the family.
They lay reading and Ty continued the memory of their honeymoon night. After their bath they lay together, softly kissing on the small rug before the fire in their bedroom when Amy leaned over and reached for the pile of blankets set along the wall beside the fireplace.
"Cold ?" Ty murmured.
"No my love." She whispered opening it and laying it over the rug then shifting her position slightly before reaching up and pulling Ty closer to her. Ty smiled and slowly moved down alongside her.
"Not cold ?" He asked as he ran his palm down her body.
"Not cold." She whispered reaching up to catch his lips.
Amy opened her eyes for a second, stared at the wood ceiling joists over the bed and lifted herself onto her elbow so she could see out the window catching of glimpse of Pegasus off in the distance. At one point in the night they climbed into bed though she wasn't really sure if Ty hadn't just carried her. She smelled the coffee before she heard him making his way up the stairs with a tray, two mugs and a small plate of croissants and fruit. He was wearing a pair of loose, black drawstring pants that were a silk and cotton mix and had a black on black paisley pattern. He wore no shirt but was wearing a matching black robe, open.
She pulled herself up so she was sitting with her back upright against the headboard and straightened her nightgown; a dark gray, full length silk gown that was light, warm and hugged her body.
She smiled as he handed her a mug and turned to grab the thermos to serve her.
"What do you think of that ?" She said taking the cup and nodding at his outfit.
"It's interesting, did you know about this ?"
"I had an inkling, they'd been gathering your sizes for a few weeks before the surgery, I think this was all part of the Manhattan shopping sprees and I'm sure clandestine online ordering. I had no idea they were doing it for me too."
"So everything I've packed for the coming week is being swapped out by 4 teenagers."
"Probably not everything, are you upset ?"
"Of course not, it's a bit weird though, they switched my underwear."
"Really ?"
"I now have boxers exclusively."
Amy laughed, "it could be worse Ty, you're very sexy in boxers."
"You see, that, right there, is weird shit."
Amy laughed and took a long sip of her coffee.
"That is a amazing nightgown by the way."
Amy smiled through another big sip then patted the space beside her. Ty sat down and turned to lay on his side next to her. One more sip and Amy lay the mug on her night table and lay down facing him.
She reached out and lay her warm plan against his body and down over his silk pants. "we are definitely not going to mention just how sexy this outfit it is." She whispered before she leaned forward and kissed his chest, his arm wrapping around her body and pulling her against him.
The closest town to the Adirondack house was Speculator, NY which was quaint and had exactly one of everything. It was a friendly town and from what she'd seen a proud community, the businesses were friendly, hands on and top notch. The Timberline Café and Bakery was just one of those places. The staff and crowd was friendly, the food, homey, good and plentiful and the bakery exceptional and once the town and staff gave them the once over they seemed welcomed immediately.
This was their 3rd time in and after telling the kids, they knew they'd be in over the weekend. They served breakfast all day and lunch from 11:00 until 3:00. It was about noon when they were greeted by Mandy who seemed to be their waitress and pointed to a booth for them to take while she grabbed two set-ups and menus.
"Good morning Amy, Ty, guess we got more snow that we were counting on."
"Seems that way Mandy, everything good around here ?"
"Oh sure, we're used to it, hot coffee cures most of the grumbles, you folks here for lunch or breakfast ?"
"Turkey Lurkey for me Mandy, black coffee please."
"Sure thing Ty, Amy ?"
"I'll have the Reuben, lemonade though, I'm coffee'd out."
"I'll put this in and we have that order of cheeses and jams you ordered in the bakery."
"We'll grab it and some treats before we leave Mandy."
Amy grew up in a small town, Hudson was bigger than Speculator but it was still small and she knew the moment she walked into the café that every person, staff and customer knew exactly who they both were. She was right.
"Folks, welcome to the Timberline, first time in ?" Mandy said brightly showing them to a small open booth on the view side of the restaurant. "I'm Mandy by the way."
"Amy and Ty, we just bought a home not too far from here." She said pulling off her woolen coat and sitting down dropping her hat onto the seat beside her.
Mandy leaned over conspiratorially and whispered "I know, we were hoping you'd stop in, welcome to the neighborhood, Roseanne and Penny said you're good folk and that's all I need."
"Thank you Mandy, that's very kind." Ty said smiling his best smile.
Amy made Mandy to be in her late 30's, she wore a wedding band and an engagement ring. Her necklace clearly showed a boy and girl figurine. She stared at Ty's smile for a second and then "uhm, a little too early for lunch yet, breakfast Ok ?"
"Breakfast would be great Mandy." Amy answered with a smile.
"Coffee ?"
"Black for both of us" Amy answered before picking up the blue breakfast menu.
From that moment on people leaving stopped to say hi and welcome and introduce themselves with the same happening in most of the local stores. They even met two families wearing cowboy hats and boots at the local winter farmer's market. Now, a week in, they were old hat at the Timberline and most of the other shops they'd visited where people nodded, smiled and acknowledged their presence as if they'd lived here their whole lives.
They rode the five minutes from the treehouse and arrived at the small tent city at just around 10 AM the official start of the morning after brunch though for those hands going back to work it had started with Betty and Erma's approval maybe a half hour earlier. Rather than drive around to the back of the house Ty pulled up alongside the garages and a couple minutes later, as they wheeled their small overnight bags into the tent they were met by a crowd of relatives and friends who clustered around as they made their way to a table. Their bags were taken when they sat, coffee was brought over and their kids came by to wish them a good morning starting with Jackson who got a big hug hello from Ty and then Amy, he was smiling from ear to ear, his biggest wish now granted.
"We got everything ready, well Chuck did but I helped with Merlin and Jasper, everything's loaded but the horses. We turned 'em out though so they're in the paddock."
Amy smiled to Ty while hugging him "And you JT, you going to listen and behave this week, not give Gran, Phyllis and Mrs. Weingarten a hard time ?"
Jackson put on a funny face and then smiled "I promise, I'll listen."
"Listen is not enough Jackson." Ty said brushing his hand across JT's hair.
"And behave, I promise."
The girls were up next and each took a good long time getting in their hugs.
"And you two ?" Amy asked holding one of each of their hands in hers.
"We'll get our stuff done and help Gran, no sweat." Charlie said with Maddie nodding on.
"And ?" Ty added.
"We'll keep him in line Pappa." Maddie added putting her hand on Jackson's shoulder.
"Have you all eaten ?" Amy asked.
"We were waiting for you and the SO's, is that it, eating and going ?"
"And gifts Charlie."
"Oh gifts, heard about two of them first thing."
"I'm sure you did sweetheart." Amy added "and ?"
"Silence per the instructions laid out."
"Excellent, I'm hungry though."
"All on their way except Dr. Caldwell."
"That emergency come through Mad ?"
"Yeah, Bina said he left about 5:30."
"Well." Amy whispered "let's have a good thought for Sam and his emergency."
"Amen." Betty whispered.
Erma slid in and leaned over to hug Amy and then across the table for Ty. "August is on his way with the girls, the others are leaving in a minute."
Once it got around the house that Amy and Ty were in the tent those that had stayed over made their way outside. They were eating about 30 minutes later at long tables pushed together family style with the newlyweds in the center surrounded by their kids and relatives. The tables surrounding them filled with friends and ranch folk.
There were two identical buffets set up to serve the crowd easily, and it was a happy and laughing crowd that queued up for food. The only exception was Amy and Ty who were served well ordered tasting platters by Yvette.
In the inevitable shuffling of seats as people visited the buffet and retrieved food and treats, spots were vacated around the couple and in one iteration Jack, Lisa, Wade and Lily made their way to the newlyweds table.
"So what's todays schedule for you two ?" Jack asked cutting a small bite of steak from his plate.
"Breakfast, gifts and honeymoon." Amy answered her grandfather with a smile. "That's a nice shirt Grandpa."
"The girls gave it to me."
"They have a way of doing that." Ty muttered.
Lily outright laughed and Lisa joined her. "they love you Ty."
"I know mom, they could check with me first."
"Where's the fun in that son ?"
"You've gotten awful accepting in your old age Jack."
Jack looked down on himself and then ran his hands over his shirt. "It's a nice shirt Ty."
"There's no crime in dressing up to an occasion Ty or dressing to match your status and position. No one has thrown away your naughty biker gear."
"I know Lisa, I do like it."
"Maybe it's time you let them know." Lily added softly while nodding her head towards the table of kids a quarter way around the tent.
"They know I love them Mom."
"I think they'll never tire of hearing it Ty." Lisa added patting his hand.
"I won't let them forget."
"You'd better not" Amy said reaching up and kissing his cheek, "we should get to the gifts, Chuck's got everything in the barn."
"I'll round everyone up Amy."
"Thank you Lisa, we'll be in the barn."
There were two reasons to handle the wedding night and the next day the way they did. The first was obvious, driving to the other house after the wedding reception and after party would have been ridiculous if not dangerous. The other was, as the majority of guests would be on their way home that afternoon, to say proper goodbyes in the light of day and give personal thanks for being a part of their wedding which included Amy's favorite part, the giving of gifts.
The barn was mostly empty when Ty and Amy got there, Chuck and Robin were sitting on a bench holding hands and talking while the kids, JT, Cars and April were visiting with the horses. Looking around Amy spotted the box that contained mostly small wrapped gifts and then quickly walked past the stalls that contained somewhat larger gifts, Hagrid and Lyric for Trish and John and the two motorcycles for Wyatt and Georgie. She also wandered over to the family tack room where several new hand made and finished cross country English saddles sat on saddle horses in the center of the room for JT, Cars and April, the latter given with permission of their parents. They'd start learning in the spring.
Chuck marveled at his watch because his dad had one just like it. They had gifted him a stainless Rolex. Robin teared up as Amy clasped the small heart pendant around her neck on Trudy's necklace. Wade was literally laid speechless when he opened the watch case Ty handed him and took out the vintage Hamilton watch. Lily was suitably teared up by the earring set Amy handed her. Lou, Casey and Tim loved their gifts. Tim wasn't even put that out that he and Chuck got the same watch.
Jack took a different tack by saying that his watch was enough of a gift and it was sort of a stunner when Amy looked at him.
"Didn't get you anything you old fart, our gift is for Lisa." Amy laughed handing Lisa the gift envelope.
"What ?"
Ty smiled "6 pair of round trip tickets anywhere in the world, just three rules."
"Rules ?" Jack asked warily.
Amy started, "Rule # 1 is they must be used in the next two years."
"Rule two" Ty added "They must be used as pairs."
"And Rule # 3, they can't be used to come here." Amy finished.
"I actually didn't think you could top the horse." Lisa said softly realizing the significance of the gift she'd been given.
"Challenge accepted" Amy answered and then turning to Jack "It's time to consider semi retirement Grandpa. Traveling is a wonderful past time and you can suggest Arizona or Texas or New Mexico. There's a marvelous ranch lifestyle in Argentina or the races in California."
"And Europe."
"Yes Grandpa, and Europe where it's no crime to just sit and sip wine. Say you'll try."
Jack nodded and smiled at Lisa "I'll try, maybe mix it up a little."
"I can live with that." Lisa answered taking his arm in hers and laying her head against him.
Both Jack and Tim volunteered to bring April and JT's new saddle out to their hunter jumpers to show their horses. Cars was fine carrying his own though he had to stop a few times.
Shane balked at the envelope Amy handed him, graciously accepted the check made out to the fund that ran his theatre company. Jacqueline smiled at the play between her fiancé and soon to be new sister before grabbing the envelope and tearing it open. She liked Amy.
"People aren't leaving and others are milling around." Ty mentioned as they walked to the front doors.
"I'm pretty sure they're all here to see John's reaction to Hagrid."
"I guess some will be here for the bikes." He said nodding towards the house at the teenagers walking over.
"True, oh good, here they come."
Amy and Ty stood arm in arm at the barn doors joined a minute later by 6 teenagers including a handsome young 13 year old; Wyatt's brother Brick. As far as Amy had seen, Brick and Katie were virtually inseparable, not as touchy as her girls but she had caught them dancing and holding hands more than once. Lou confirmed what she saw and also that they've gone back and forth like this for a few years now.
None of the 'bests', Georgie, Wyatt, John or Trish had any idea what they were getting but each knew what the others were getting. John had worked on the bikes with the girls and Georgie had been taking Hagrid out on the trail to keep him exercised and get him used to his new home. Lyric, the horse Trish usually rode would need none of that. Trish and Lyric absolutely adored each other. Making that pairing permanent was long overdue.
Since Georgie had afternoon rounds she and Wyatt had returned to the loft after breakfast while John and Trish stayed in the tent with family and friends. Amy and Ty watched them leave the tent towards the barn along with several other people coming to see the gift giving. Most knew what the gifts were, at least John's, and were coming for his reaction. Georgie and Wyatt were coming for the same reason. Ty thought it was almost a miracle that none of the four actually had the whole story.
They greeted the group coming from the tent and milled about talking about this and that as Georgie and Wyatt approached a few minutes from the other side as their apartment was off the back of the barn.
"We all here now ?"
"We're all here John" Ty answered just itching to see his face "Amy ready ?"
"Let's do it." She said taking Trish's arm and leading her back along the family stables followed by John, Ty and the rest of the group.
Expecting to walk to the double stall that held the bikes both Trish and John were surprised when Amy stopped alongside Lyric who was next to a huge horse that caught Trish's attention.
Lyric leaned out towards Trish who smiled at her and lifted her hand to her muzzle. "Hey, how's my sweet girl ?" She asked in a small whisper getting closer to let Lyric rub against her face.
"She's all yours Trish."
"Yeah, we have a thing."
"No, I mean it, she's yours, we're officially giving her to you."
"My horse." Trish repeated looking over.
"All yours."
She wasn't a crier per se but she sniffled and her eyes got wet. "Oh Amy, I don't….." she started.
"Oh hush, you and her have been in love since the day she got here, this should have happened already, now I have an excuse."
They were all surprised when Hagrid leaned over and was met with Lyric turning towards him and touching muzzles. Hagrid stood over two hands taller than Lyric who at 15 and a half hands was not huge but built well and muscular.
"And who's this big guy ?" Trish asked "and what's this guy ?"
"That's the largest quarter horse I've ever seen." Amy answered.
"And he's all yours John." Ty added patting his hand on John's back.
"Mine ? I thought we talked about this ?"
"Look dude" Ty started "This is the biggest straight up Quarter Horse Amy and I've ever seen, he weighs almost 2000 pounds, even you're not a burden to this guy, come say hello, we'll go slow."
"You have to admit he's a monster John." Trish added with the biggest grin. "Come meet him, you're probably the first human he's ever looked at eye to eye."
John walked past his wife to Hagrid's stall where he stopped. Hagrid turned to him and seemed to check him out closely and then take a step to turn his large head and look into John's eyes. John put out his hand for Hagrid to sniff just before reaching over to touch his muzzle. It was then that he noticed the new brass plate on Hagrid's bridle.
"Hagrid" he muttered "you've got to be kidding me."
"Sort of fits big fella, be happy he's not Shrek." Trish whispered watching Hagrid move closer and John's hand inch around to rub up and stop at the horse's forehead where he began rubbing as he'd seen them all do for years. Hagrid leaned in again and John brought his other hand up. As far as everyone was concerned at this point, these two were very likely a pair.
"What do think John ?"
"Well Ty, he's definitely big."
"And ?" Amy asked.
"Ok, we'll do it or at least try, but I have to be comfortable."
"We'll go slow Rocket." Charlie piped in.
"And we'll try to keep the crowds to a bare minimum." Maddie added giggling.
"You two ?" He asked.
"Who else ?" They answered simultaneously.
"His saddle will be in Tuesday I think." Chuck said "it'll weigh a ton. I'll call tomorrow."
"Thanks Chuck" Ty said "shall we move on ?"
Amy turned to Georgie who was smiling "So, Auntie Amy, what'd ya get me ?"
"A couple's gift." Ty answered "girls, want to do the unveiling ?"
Georgie and Wyatt turned to the girls who each walked up to one of them and took their arms turning them past Lyric and Hagrid. The girls walked past a few stalls up to what appeared to be an empty stall which they opened and entered. Amy and Ty were right behind Georgie and Wyatt who saw the large tarp for a second before the girls picked it up.
"Wow." Georgie whispered looking in at the two vintage black and cream 1962 Harley Duo Glide Sportsters. A second later she repeated herself "wow."
"Dude" Wyatt exclaimed stepping closer and reaching out to run his hand over the chrome handlebars.
"They're good to go Wyatt, some of the guys tested 'em around the shop the other day." Maddie said.
"Have a seat." Charlie added pointing, "this one's yours Wyatt."
"Do not turn those things on in my barn, wheel 'em outside please." Chuck said pushing through.
Both Georgie and Wyatt walked in with big grins on their faces and walked up to their respective bikes. They both slowly made their way around them, reaching out just to run fingers over the smooth newly shined or painted surfaces. They both stopped at the custom saddle boxes adorned with their initials and the logos of their professions.
"What are they ?" Georgie asked looking at the girls and then putting her leg over the side and sitting down.
"1962 Harley Duo Glide Sportsters." Maddie answered. "V2 four stroke panhead engines, classic Harley."
Charlie continued "55HP though we tweaked 'em a bit, they'll go 100 – 110 mph on a straightaway. Nice bikes."
"We tore 'em down and rebuilt the engines, spiffed up the body work and rigged the saddle boxes." Maddie added proudly "can't wait to ride with you guys."
"I think we'll need some lessons." Wyatt added looking up, his grin didn't diminish at all.
"We'll get you two up and riding in the spring guys" Trish said off to the side with John.
Amy smiled and walked over to the ex marine who was now absentmindedly stroking his horse, "don't worry big guy, it's way easier than a bike."
Ty laughed "so, we done here, I do believe my wife and I have a honeymoon to continue."
"Let's get these bikes out to the garage and we can start our goodbyes." Amy suggested as Wyatt and John popped the kicks on the bikes and the crowd parted for them to get by. Outside, and just for effect the girls kicked the bikes on and rode them around the tents and the circle to the garage as the rest of the crowd gravitated back to the tents.
An imaginary line seemed to form as the hugs, kisses, thanks and goodbyes of the newlyweds began. Many of the guests were leaving to get back home. With the exception of Jack, Lisa, Wade and Lily who were staying to join the family the following weekend, all the Canadians were leaving as well as many of the American and world guests who had flown in as well.
A small group walked them to Amy's pickup. Chuck and the girls loaded Merlin and Jasper under Jackson's careful eye while the couple said goodbye to Betty, Erma, the Koenig's, Charlie, Trev and Steph. The men went first and all promised to let them know what was going on even though Bridgett and Sandra promised to put together an email package for each. Meg and Steph each held their hugs, whispering their love to Amy and Ty. Georgie promised to keep both in the loop about cases and Cornell and to help with the kids. They had decided to leave the dogs at Pegasus until the weekend when they'd get their first opportunity to explore the new home. Erma came next and she and Amy hugged and swayed a long time and Amy eventually told her that she had a gift waiting at home on her kitchen table. When Erma reminded her that they were insistent on paying her normal fee Amy told her that the gift was for being the best friend anyone could ever have. Her sister through thick and thin. They hugged and kissed both of the girls a final time as well as Jackson and finally both got long enduring hugs from Betty who could not help but cry and smile at both.
They called the Grayzels after an hour of traffic when they pulled over to check on the horses letting them know they were an hour behind schedule. Jonathan and Rosanne wanted to meet them and help them get in, Amy and Ty felt strongly about seeing them as well, they were the caretakers of their property and home and both felt a salary just didn't cover that relationship.
They arrived later in the afternoon than planned and the sun would be setting soon, as they were really in almost a bowl of mountains they would lose light sooner than an area that was flatter. Amy watched the front of the house reflect the shadows and light as they drove down the road. The Grayzel's knew that the couple would go straight to the stables and met them back there. A smiling Jonathan met them with handshakes but his wife Roseanne was positively giddy and insisted on hugs to which Amy and Ty both happily acquiesced. The Grayzel kids were also waiting to help and with a smile Amy handed each child a bridled horse to lead in to a stable.
There wasn't much in the trailer to unload. John and his older son Kent carried in the saddles. Food and hay had been delivered from Pegasus through the week along with supplies so after checking that the horses were settled and eating they left them to each other for now in the company of the two kids who wanted to watch them.
Once the trailer was unhitched, they watched as a beautiful red and blue sunset started falling on the property as they rode around to the front of the house. Rosanne had insisted that their first time in as a married couple should be through the main entrance. Rosanne had turned the house light's on as they drove around so that when they reached the front the lights had started brightening which joined the sunset in creating a almost a rainbow of light pallets agains the house. Amy thought it was breathtaking.
Jonathan thumbed the lock open and pushed the large counterbalanced front door open and into the house and while three of them entered Amy stood stock still on the porch. They all stopped not far into the house as Amy looked at Ty and then cocked her head to this side.
She looked at him for a moment "Well ?"
Ty stared at her for a second until Rosanne leaned up to his ear grinning, she had a twinkle in her eye for Amy and whispered "I think she's expecting to be carried across the threshold Ty."
Ty smiled and with two quick steps forward "come here you" he growled as his arms swept around her and he lifted her into a kiss and then across the threshold.
"Thank you my love." She whispered back down on the ground and leaning up to gently catch his smiling lips.
Jonathan was immediately back out the door carrying in the suitcases and the first of two coolers of ready made wedding foods to use should they choose not to cook. It took Amy and Rosanne just a couple minutes to load them into the double wide fridge.
"Wasn't really sure what you two wanted so the fireplaces are all ready for a light and I think that's it." Jonathan added as Rosanne met him at the door.
One again Rosanne was all smiles looking at them "call us if you need anything at all, I can't imagine you will but we're here."
"Thank you both so much."
"It's our pleasure Amy." Rosanne nodded "oh and uhm, there's a custom around here, fresh baked goods for newlyweds to have a sweet honeymoon. Ok for them in the mornings ?"
It was Amy's turn to smile and nod her thanks at Rosanne as the couple walked them to the door and they wished each other a good night.
They started in the bedroom with their stuff and then walked the entire house arm in arm all the while snuggling as they stopped and watched a breathtaking sunset welcome them to their home and a quiet week alone with each other.
There was about two hours until the family caravan were back home from town in front of a nice fire in the spacious living room. They lay reading and talking low on an extra thick wool rug covered in an Alpaca throw. Now that their immersion in their alone time came slowly to a close Amy thought back on what to her was a perfect week. She never remembered that she was ever that close to another person, a literal part of his orbit unable to leave it if she tried.
She loved their walks and rides, the wonder of exploring this new place that they would care for and knew so little about. They had no idea, for instance if the lake would freeze over or partially. How were the rivers through the winter and then how dangerous in early spring ? She also wondered in the botanicals she found now that winter cleared away a cover of leaves. One afternoon they came upon a small hill that faced away from the path where Amy discovered a large patch of rose hips, on another, a large wintered section of purple coneflower, also know as carried the map tube wherever they went and while Amy carefully marked her discoveries Ty marked wildlife spottings, tracks and sign.
Ty shifted slightly to check his watch and turn a page and his hand, which had been resting on her stomach, shifted slightly which gave her a run of goosebumps. Without forethought, memories of their week of plentiful and playful lovemaking rushed back to her and she giggled absentmindedly.
"What ?" Ty asked.
"Nothing, forget it."
"Come on, what ?"
"Sex."
"Excuse me ?"
"I was thinking about, you know….. us….. this week ? And I giggled."
"Hmmmm, ok."
"Ok what ?"
"You said sex, so I figured, you know, but, you were just thinking, so …."
"Well, I mean I just giggled but if you figured, you know, I guess we have some time before…"
Ty laughed and leaned over twisting himself to take her in his arms, intent to make love to his wife while waiting for the kids to get home, married life in real time.
