Lynn sat in the library with Mr. C. The school's nurse was on detention duty, monitoring him and several other students. Time ticked by slowly as Lynn served the first of several detention. He'd much rather be on Lyoko with everyone else. However, he'd have to return to his dorms immediately at the end of detention. He'd remain there for the rest of the night.
"Mind if I get another book?" Lynn asked the nurse. "I wanna get ahead start on my report." Unlike other students who slept or read whatever they found in the library, Lynn used the time productively. After finishing his homework, he studied a bit. Keeping to himself and not causing problems, Mr. C. let him roam the library without complacate. Where as other students' tried to sneak out or use their phones.
Lynn wondered to the other side of the library looking for the book he needed. He found the book when his phone vibrated. Seeing Cam's name, he ducked between some shelves to answer. "Cam? Is there an attack?"
"We need you. Kya and Alexei are trapped within a digital limbo. They can't return to earth." Cam explained. "Emi's trapped in Sector 5 alone. We can't do anything until you get here."
"I want to help Cam, but I'm still in the library. I won't be able to sneak away." Lynn checked his watch to see there was still an hour until detention ended. "Best I can do is wait until we can return to the dorms and leave from there."
"We can't wait that long." Cam racked his brain for ideas. Lynn could leave, but that risked him getting caught or leading to harsher punishment. It'd be pointless for Lynn to leave then, they'd be down a Defender. "
Cam thought of an idea. It wasn't a good one, but it would allow Lynn to sneak away. "The fire alarm should be near the back of the library."
"You want me to pull it, don't you." Lynn finished before Cam could. "You do realize if this doesn't work, I'll be in more trouble."
"You'll be fine." Cam reassured. "The old was faulty and kept going off. When they installed the new fire alarm, they never took out the old one or deactivated it."
"In other words, Mr. C will realize it's a false alarm. Best case is he'll us back to our dorms early because of the alarm, while the worst is me getting caught and receiving additional punishment." Lynn thought about each scenario, but his mind was already made up. Being cautious would be pointless if something happened Alexei, Emi, and Kya got. That thought in mind, he pulled the fire alarm then bolted for his seat. The deflective device wouldn't go off right away. Part of it's issues were it's delayed reaction time and inconsistent activation. Students and staff were use to this and the random pauses in-between the ringing.
"Fine let's do it." Lynn peaked from between the book shelves to see Mr. C's scolding two students caught on their phones. "I'll call you once I'm on my way to the mansion." Hanging up, he quickly made his way to the back of the library. Sandwiched between two bookshelves was the one fire alarm. Lynn pulled the handle, expecting the alarm to sound. Silence greeted him.
"Right, delayed reaction." Lynn used the time to make his way back to his seat. There he quietly packed his books away, waiting for the alarm. The moment he closed his bag a loud siren went off.
Mr. C looked up from the book he'd been reading and rolled his eyes. "Thought they'd replaced that faulty alarm." Use to the buggy device, he instructed the students head back to their dorms. He monitored the students, making sure none remained inside the library.
Lynn silently followed the other students, pretending to head for the dorms. Once they were out of Mr. C's sight, Lynn ducked into the forest. Following the path for the thousandth time, he made his way to the entrance tunnel in the center. There he sent a message to Cam letting him know he was on his way.
Cam's POV:
"Take the next left than head straight." I directed Emi on Lyoko. After Alexei and Kya were devirtized, Emi was defenseless. We've been playing a game of keep away from Xana's monsters. The labyrinth has worked to our advantage to keep Emi safe. "Not that left, you other left."
"Have you found away to save Alexei and Kya." Emi asked. The purple arrow on the screen indicated Emi had stopped moving. Everyone has a specific color that indicates which person is where on Lyoko. Kya's is white and Alexei's is yellow; neither of them are on the screen. Further evidence that they're not where they should be on Lyoko.
"We'll have to collect their digital data from Sector 5. Once we have that, I can begin the retrieval process." Another reason Emi can't leave Sector 5. She needs to access the data terminal from the Celestial Dome to retrieve Kya and Alexei's digital data.
The elevator doors opened, signaling the arrival of Lynn. "What's the situation?" Dripping sweat he came to stand beside me, watching the monitor.
"They were ambushed and devirtized." I relayed the events that led to Kya and Alexei's current state. "The goal is to get Emi to the Celestial Dome, protect her while she accesses the data we need to save the others, than escort her to a Way Tower for remartiaziation."
"Simple." Lynn let out a sigh. "Let's get this over with. Don't know how much longer Emi will last in Sector 5 alone."
He entered the elevator to make his way to the scanners. Once inside, I began the virtizlation process. "Transfer Lynn, Scanner Lynn, Virtzation!"
Mr. C had one final stop than he'd be done his rounds. When the fire alarm went off, the students from detention should've returned to their dorms. Couldn't let things be, he was instructed to account for each and every student to make sure they'd returned. Those who hadn't were given an extra day of detention. So far three had been caught roaming campus instead of being in their dorms. The last stop of the day was Lynn. Mr. C had saved him for last since Lynn was grounded, the kid would have to spend the remainder of the night in the dorms regardless.
"Come in." Avery's voice sounded from inside the dorm. Mr. C opened the door to find the teen alone watching sports voices on his phone. Scanning the room, he noticed that Lynn's side of the room didn't appear to have been used since that morning.
"Where's your roommate?" The nurse questioned.
Avery answered with a shrug. "Don't know, don't care."
Mr. C pinched the bridge of his nose. Nothing was ever easy, now he'd have to search for the kid. Honestly, he didn't mind Lynn and his friends. They, mostly Alexei, might cause trouble every once and a while, but what kid didn't? He remembered his days at Kanna with his brother, they'd sneak out and pull pranks all the time. Lynn sneaking back late was the least of his concerns.
Lynn and Kya weren't as sneaky as they thought. There were several times Mr. C noticed the duo not in their dorms or sneaky back late. Not that he was actively looking for them. He'd seen them from a far, but since they'd never directly crossed his path he left them be. Truthfully, if he hadn't ran into Lynn the other night he would've let him go.
Whatever they were sneaky around for must've been for a good reason. Not that he wanted to know. As long as they weren't in danger or causing trouble, he'd let them be. Well they also needed to not be caught. Like now.
"This is serious Avery." Mr. C tugged the phone away from Avery. "Lynn was suppose to return to the dorm after detention. Yet he's not here."
Avery rolled his eyes while getting off the bed. "Alright I get it." He lazily strolled out the room towards the stairs. Mr. C followed him, as they headed for the girls floor. As they walked, Avery noticed some of his former soccer teammates. He took a moment to ask them if they'd seen Alexei, one of Lynn's friends. Both replied nope.
Neither said anything more until they arrived at Kya' dorm. "This probably won't work." Avery stated as he knocked on the door. "Yo, Kya you there." No answer. Avery knocked again, still receiving no answer.
"Welp, we're outta luck." Avery announced. "Kya and Lynn are best friends, she usually knows where he is. But they're also usually together. So if one ain't here, neither is the other."
Mr. C groaned, it was going to be a long night.
"Avery, Mr. C? What are you doing here?" Mara walked towards them with Ally in tow.
"Ah perfect timing, you haven't see Kya have you?" Mr. C asked.
"Why would know where that loser is? We aren't friends." Mara huffed.
Ally elbowed her friend before adding, "She disappeared a few hours ago and wasn't at dinner." She looked towards Kya's room. "If she's not on campus she might either be at Kadic or at Alexei's place."
Three pairs of eyes turned towards Ally. "How do you know that?" Both Avery and Mara asked.
Ally rolled her eyes. This information wasn't new or surprising. For as much as the two didn't get along with Cam's group, they spent alot of time looking for specific members. They were bound to pick up the groupings hanging out habits. The only thing Ally didn't mention were their trips to the forest. This late at night it'd make more sense for them to be at Kadic or Alexei's place.
"Alexei's place I understand, but why Kadic? It's a boarding school like ours with a curfew." Mr. C questioned.
"Doesn't Kya's cousin attend Kadic?" Avery mentioned. "I've overheard them make plans to visit there before."
"And the adverutre continues." Mr. C took out his phone and began making calls. The first person he contacted was Tiya, Alexei's mom. When she answered he asked for the where abouts of Alexei and Cam.
"Don't know." She answered. "They usually come home when their tried." Most people would be shocked a parent didn't know where their children where, but not Tiya. Like Mr. C she was laid back and let the boys have their freedom. Which was why Mr. C wasn't suprised by the answer.
"Did something happen?" Tiya asked.
"Yeah, Lynn and Kya aren't in their dorms. We're looking for them." Mr. C answered.
Tiya groaned. "Those boys." Now she had to go look for them to solve this problem. Lynn and Kya have permission to stay at her house when not on campus. However since she doesn't know where the kids are either, this doesn't bold well for anyone. "Do you another idea of where they might be?"
Mr. C looked at Ally, "Yet Kadic."
"I'll meet you there." Tiya hung up before Mr. C could say anything.
"You two return to your dorms, Ally come with me we're going to Kadic." Mr. C ordered.
"Why does she get to go?" Mara pouted. "We wanna come. Right Avery?"
"Nope. I'm going to back to my room." His part done, Avery left the group.
"Ally's more helpful." Mr. C bluntly answered. "Do you know who Kya's cousin is? No, than goodnight."
Mr. C walked away, using his phone to text Prinpcal Hall of the sitituation. He also contacted Jim from Kadic to prepare for their arrival. Ally reassured Mara she'd fill her in once they found the others before following Mr. C.
The walk to Kadic was quiet. They took the fifteen walk the long way around the school instead of cutting through the forest. Arriving at Kadic's gate they were greeted by the Princpal and Jim. Mr. C told them of the missing students and the possbilty they could be at Kadic. The two adults from Kadic nodded and lead the way to the dorms. Ally informed them of Emi, Kya's cousin.
Wave was awoken by the voices in the hall. Poking her head out, she noticed the Prinpal along with Jim and two others she didn't recongize standing outside Emi's dorm.
"Where is she!?" Jim shouted. Emi wasn't in her room and appeared to not have been there for some time. What did greet them was a lone kitten nested on top of the bed.
"So that kitten belonged to Emi." Ally stated. She'd seen the kitten come and go from campus several times, often alone or with Kya's group. She thought it homeless as it wandered where it pleased. But it appeared to belong to Emi, it certainly looked at home in the Emi's room.
Kit sleepy opened her eyes, streched then jumped off the bed. Looking at the humans who'd entered Emi's room, she didn't know what to do. She remembered Emi's friends mention that she had to remain hidden when inside their dorms, pets weren't allowed at the school. Not wanting to get Emi in trouble, she dashed out the room. While she didn't know where the currently was, she had an idea. The mansion. That's were those humans went when they weren't at school or Alexei's place. It was also the other safe place for her to wait for them.
"We should probably follow the kitten." Ally stated. "She's always around campus, coming and going as she pleases. She might be headed for the others right now."
"We've got no other leads." Mr. C agreed, than followed the kitten. The others joined him, wondering if the kitten could lead them to the missing students.
No, no, no no!Wave silently panicked. She needed to alert Emi that the adults were looking for her and her friends. At times like this she wished she had everyone's phone numbers and not just Emi's. Her friend didn't answer.
"What do I do? Where could they be?" Wave thought to herself as she got dressed. Maybe she can serectly get Kit's attention and draw her away from her destination. Wave had learned how smart Kit was and knew the animal would had for Emi's location.
Almost dressed, she was about to leave when an alert came from her computer. What now!?Checking the program, she saw that something interesting at triggered it.I can't miss this opputinty.
Grabbing the bag that contained her laptop and other supplies, Wave snuck out of the dorm like the dozen of other times before. She circled around towards the forest to see the group searching for Kit. Luckily, Wave found the animal first.
"Hey sweetie." Wave went over to pet Kit. The kitten took a step back, watching the human. Than she recongized the orangze buns atop her head. This girl was a friend of Emi's, but a different type. Kit hadn't seen this human at the mansion, but knew she hung out with Emi. If Emi trusted her, Kit thought she could too.
"Here's a snack." Wave placed some food in front of Kit. "Could you eat this before heading to Emi? Trust me, Emi needs our help and this will by some time for her."
Kit tilted her head, confused but nodded.
"Thanks Kit! I'll tell Emi of your help." Wave patted Kit once more than ducked into the forest. She'd brought sometime for Emi to check her messages. That was all she could do for her friend. Now she had something else to check on.
"Finally, time to try this out." Wave smirked, patting the bag she carried.
Lynn's POV:
"I've arrived in Sector 5." The transporter opened to reveal Sector 5. "Where do I find the button to stop the countdown?"
"Head straight, than took the right path." Cam instructed. He guided me through the labyrinth to the button. Avoiding combat wasn't easy, lucky Eagle's Eye actived to alert me to incoming monsters. While I couldn't take another path to avoid them, I was prepared to deflect lasers and avoid an ambush.
"I see it!" Across the open room, there was a button in Xana's symbol. Of course, there also Creepiers hanging from the edge of the upper levels reading to rain down lasers.
"You've got fifty second Lynn!" Cam reminded me.
Taking out my chakrams for mobile defense.
Taking a deep breath, I sprinted the distance to the button. Lasers rained down, but with Eagle's Eye I was able to predict some of the lasers projected landing location. This reduced the amount of damage taken. Closing the distance, my hand slammed into the button.
The overall area didn't change, but a new path to the right of the button opened. Ducking into the path, the wall closed behind me. Cam directed me the remaining way until I found Emi. She was pinned down by three Creepiers, pushing her towards the back opening. The Scyphozoa emerged from the opening, moving towards Emi.
"Lynn." Cam said worrrily.
"I'm on it general." Activing Homing Arrow, I launched both chakrams towards the Creepiers blocking Emi. Two were destoryed while the other turn towards me. Both weapons returned to my hand, than one went for the remaining Creepier and the other for the Scyphozoa holding Emi. The weapons sliced through the Creepier and cut through the tenticles holding Emi. However that wasn't enough to stop the Scyphozoa. So I sent both chakrams for the creature's bubble like head. They bounced off but forced it to retract back into the opening it came through.
"Emi!" Danger over, I went to check on Emi.
"Why hello. Welcome to the party." Emi shakily stood. "Cam can we finish this and go home? I want a nap." Such an Alexei thing to say. She's okay.
"Yeah, head back the way Lynn came and follow the path till you reach the elevator." He directed.
We followed his directions to the elevator and than reached the Celestial Dome. Once there, Emi immeditaly went to the data terimalate. Doing her thing, I kept watch. Creepiers haven't appeared in the Celestial Dome but Mantas do emegre from the binary code along the walls.
"I've found Alexei's data uploading it now." Emi stated. She tapped something, that showed an uploading screen.
"Got it!" Cam annouced. "We just need Kya's than we can bring them back."
"Well hurry because Xana sent guest." Weapons drawn, I watched the Mantas being to emerge from the walls. One, two, three. Not alot, but not easy to fight on this narrow ledge. "Emi, we're out of time."
"Done!" Emi closed the termial, than moved beside me. "Cam we need the cyberbike!"
"Already on it!" Cam sent the cyberbike as the mantas cirlced over.
I hoped on first, than Emi behind me. She held onto my waist as I nagviated the rainfall of lasers. Without the others to provide backup, this is differcult. I don't know how Kya was able to do this without a range weapon. Between driving and deflecting lasers, I don't know how we made it to the access tunnel Cam opened.
We exited into the desert sector. Xana had several krabs and bloks greet us. "You need to get Emi to a Way Tower." Cam explained.
"Do you not see this!" I grunted. "We'll be lucky if we don't get devitalized."
Even with Eagle's Eye I don't know if I'll be able to avoid everything, at least not without some serious damage on our part. "Emi take the cyberbike."
"That's crazy Lynn." She stopped me from getting off. "You won't last ten seconds. Our best option is to stick together."
"Well we need to come up with a plan fast. They're about to attack!" Cam alerted us.
Sure enough, each of the monsters was loading a laser. My charkams won't be enough to block to everything. They cyberbike could shield us once, than we'd be without a vechile. Which we'll need in order to move away from them.
Out of time, lasers fired. I moved Emi behind me, hoping to shield her from some of it damage. But nothing happened. Looking up, we saw a shimmery dome over us. "What?" I whispered. "Where did this come from?" I turned to Emi who looked just as confused. None of us have the ability to create barriers.
"Another wave of lasers is coming!" Cam shouted in warning.
"Shock Block!" A voice shouted, before another barrier surrounded us. The voice came from behind us, drawing closer. Under the protection of the barrier, we noticed a shadow jump over. A cybebike landed in front of us, blocking the approaching monsters. The rider stepped off, cloaked in white and red kimion dress that stopped at her knees under a black haori, matching black boots covered her feet, with white knee length socks. Her orange hair stopped at her back, while a braided portion rested on her shoulder. An orange fox tail twitched from under her haori, while two fox ears sat a top her head. Her face was covered by a white fox mask, anaginata rested in her right hand.
"Now this is what I'm talking about!" She swung thenaginata, seeming to get a feel for the weapon. "I've been waiting to try this out. Now how to I do that thing again?" She spoke to herself.
"Cam? Explain." I asked, unsure of what to do. Could this be another of Xana's tricks?
"I can't tell you what I don't know." He sounded as confused as I was. "Take the opputiny to get away. She appears to be interested in Xana's monsters, not you."
As if knowing we were talking about her, she turned to face us. "I don't know what's happening, but those things are the bad guys, right?"
"Their Xana's monsters." Emi answered.
"Right...Xana?" The girl tilted her head. "Well I'll deal with them. Might be the only change I get." She turned to the monsters. "Go on, I've got this." Weapon in hand, she moved to engage the monsters.
"Lynn, let's go." Emi tugged on my arm.
"Yeah." Confused, I pulled my attention away from the girl and took Emi to the Way Tower. We were able to reach it without an issue thanks to the girl stopping the monsters from coming after us.
Once Emi was inside the tower, Cam remariterlzed me on earth.
Lynn stood with Emi and Cam as the scanners doors closed. They watched in silence waiting for Cam's program to work. Emi hadn't just retrieved Alexei and Kya digital data, but the matrialztion data for Sector 5. Cam stated he had everything nessarcy to bring their friends back. Now they waited for the results.
Suddenly the scanners opened to reveal Alexei and Kya each in one curled up. "Kya! Alexei!" The three ran to check on their friends.
"Uck!" Kya leaned on Lynn who supported her weight as she stood. "Finally found something worst than Alexei's move suggestions."
"I can't disagree." Alexei chimed as he let Cam and Emi pull him up.
"Glad your back!" Emi cheered.
They wait for Kya and Alexei to regain their compouse. Than the five of them made their way to the manison's library, ready to end their night of 'fun'. Upon exiting the library into the main hall, they found an suprise, Ally along with Mr. C, the Princpal of Kadic, and Jim.
"You've got some explaining to do." Jim told the teens. "What were you doing here?"
"How'd you find this place?" Kya asked, than noticed Kit walk over to them. "Kit?"
"She should be in my dorm." Emi explained.
"We can worry about that later." Lynn whishpered.
Alexei glanced at Cam, sharing a silent converstaion. Cam nodded in agreement. Kya looked to Lynn who slightly tilted his head at Jim. The two had their oven unspoken converstion.
"Now!" Kya annocuned, signaling everyone into action. Cam sprinted for the elevator while Kya and Lynn stopped the Prinpcal of Kadic and Jim from following. Emi blocked Ally. Alexei was a moment to slow to grab Mr. C who followed Cam.
"Stop this Cam." He urged.
"Sorry Mr. C can't do that." Cam ducked away from the nurse into the lab once the elevator opened.
"Cam-" Mr. C's voice trailed off upon seeing the lab. "What is this?"
"I'd explain, but your not going to remember." Cam hopped into the chair in front of the computer.
"What are you-" Mr. C began, but was cut off by Cam.
"Return to the Past, now!" Cam input the command into the supercomputer.
"Last chance to explain why you snuck out last night." Mr. C offered Lynn. He wanted to avoid having to take Lynn to Prinpal Hall if he could, but he needed a reason. If Lynn refused to speak, he couldn't help him.
"The truth is I needed a break from Avery." Lynn sighed. "We don't expectly get along and often aruge. I avoid my our room as much as possbile because of it. However yesturday I needed some more time to cool off."
"So you snuck out to prevent another arugement?" Mr. C questioned.
Lynn nodded. "Yes. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to do. But -"
"Enough, I understand." Mr. C stated. "I have an older brother and shared a room with him for years. So I understand the need for personal space."
Lynn's attentioned perked up hearning Mr. C. speak. "And?"
"And next time you need space to cool off don't sneak out. Better yet, let me know and we'll figure something out." Mr. C offered.
"So I'm not in trouble?" Lynn asked, hopeful.
"Oh no your still in trouble. You did sneak out after all." Mr. C smirked. "But I won't inform the Prinpcal since this is the 'first' time it's happened." He gave Lynn a knowing look. "Your pushiment will be to help me do innvetory of the supplies in the nurses office."
"That's it?" Lynn raised an eyebrow. Mr. C kept updated logs of all the supplies in his office. Which meant innverntory would take an hour, an hour and a half tops.
"Should I add something else to it?" Mr. C teased.
"Nope! I'll take this one." Lynn back tracked. "I'll be there after school." He dashed off before Mr. C could change his mind.
"Did you get detention again?" Kya asked as she walked to her next class with Lynn.
"Nope, Mr. C let me off with innvertory." Lynn was suprised by how easy he'd gotten off. Mr. C could be reasonable. But apart of him wondered why he helped Lynn out. Most adults won't go to those lengths for students, espically those who obeviously broke school rules.
"Well lets not worry about it." Kya smiled. "We've earned a day of rest after yesturday."
Lynn agreed, but he knew that wouldn't happen. They hadn't had a change to tell Alexei and Kya about the girl who saved them on Lyoko. Another mystery to add to their every going list.
