"Now that we've prevented Xana from gaining access to the Tundra and Island Sectors we don't have to worry about him using those towers." Emi stated. "We can foucs more on Sector Five and checking the new sectors for more Lyoko keys."
"That means no trips to Sector 5 until we're done analysing the data from Sector Five." Cam added.
They sat in the mansion's libaray discussing the last attack. After getting Emi to the tower, for fox girl than Kya had been devirtazted. Luckily Emi had deactivated the tower moments before Kya's devirtazilation. The scanners came back online in time for Kya to rematerialze.
"Are we not going to talk about the girl?" Alexei asked.
Cam shrugged. "Nothing's changed. We don't have enough information to do anything." He explained his lack of findings when searching for her digital signature. "My theroy is that she might also be tapped on Lyoko like Emi was."
"That doesn't make sense." Alexei explained. "If she shows up again we can assume she's human. Other wise she's gone forever."
Alexei didn't say it, but they all knew. Emi wasn't human and originates from Lyoko. If she loses all of her life points, she'll disappear forever.
"Lynn, Emi what do you think of her?" Kya asked. This was her first encounter with the myteruious fox girl. While helpful, she seemed both amazed and confused.
Lynn and Emi shared a look.
"Each time she's appeared, it's been at the perfect time. That while beneiful..." Emi trailed off.
Lynn finished. "We'resuspicious for her 'convent' arrivals."
Kitt got up from her spot on the floor to hop onto Emi's lap. "Meow." She gave several long and short purrs and meows.
"You have a point Kitt." Kya replied.
Kitt gave a different set of meows.
"It's worth a try." Kya agreed.
The others listened to Kitt's conversation with Kya for several minutes.
Finally Lynn was the one who asked. "Since when have you been able to talk to cats?"
"It's not all cats, only Kitt. She knows morse code." Kya petted the kitten. "You've never noticed the way she meows? The unusal patten?"
"Putting aside the face that a cat learned morse code, how do you know it?" Alexei inquried.
"Brothers." Kya and Lynn said at the same time.
"We learned it along with her brothers in order to have private converstaions."Lynn explained.
Being an only child with a father that traveled for work and a mother who worked full time, Lynn was raised in Kya's house. Her brothers were his brothers. Naturally Lynn was included in all sibling plans.
"Anyway, Kitt thinks we should continue working with the girl." Kya stated. "However we need to monitor and tey to be aroudn her in pairs. Along with getting infomration when possible."
Cam clapped his hands. "Well, we won't get a better idea. Let's call it a night."
Emi's POV:
"Has anyone seen Wave?" Emi asked Aelita and her friends.
Evening had arrived when we left the mansions. Lynn and Kya sprinted to Kanna to make it in time for dinner. Cam and Alexei walked her back to Kadic where they parted ways.
"She was in her dorm." Aelita answered. "Music was playing, she might be working on a sample."
That's just like her.Emi thought.
Wave's love of food could rivial Odd's. If Odd was the iron stomache, Wave was a black hole. She could out eat Odd and call it a snack. Music is the one thing she perferred over food. Unlike Lynn who wrote and composed his own music and songs, Wave is a DJ. She used various beats to create tracks. The headphones she always wore were used to listen to music for inspriation or for where she should make edits and improvements.
"Here are the notes from class." Aelita handed Emi a pink notebook.
Emi placed the item into her bag. "Thanks. I'll give it back tommorrw."
"What were you doing that you had to miss school?" Odd asked, using the question as a distraction to steal Emi's food.
"Doctor's appointment." Emi swatted Odd's hand than moved to sit on the other side of Ulrich.
"Anything insteresting happen while I was gone?" Emi asked.
Odd gave up on getting Emi's food and returned to his own. "It tried teaching Kiwi again."
Ulrich shook his head, "Great time that was. Next time do your training when I'm not trying to study."
"Aww, jealous because my dog's a genuis?" Odd asked.
"Hate to break it to you Odd, but Kiwi's far from being a genius." Jeremie replied.
A soft 'meow' drew attention to Emi's bag.
Kitt popped her head out of the bag, swiped Ulrich's fish stick than ducked back inside the bag.
"Was that a cat?" Aelita peered over the table to see the kitten eating. It glanced up, raised a paw as if to wave, than went back to eating.
"This is Kitt, a stray kitten who has adopted me and my friends." Emi answered.
Kitt meowed in response, seeming to agree that she adopted them.
"Did she just agree?" Jeremie questioned, stunned by Kitt's 'meows' that seem to confirm Emi's statement.
Emi nodded, use to Kitt not acting like a typical cat. "She does that. But the shocking this is she knows morse code." Emi explained their discovery and Kya's ability to commicate with Kit.
"Wow, that means Kiwi will be able to talk to as well." Odd blurted out.
Everyone stared at Odd for moment, than began laughing.
She sat at her desk staring at the computer screen. Codes filled the screen before 'Error' pipped up.
"Again? When will the processing work?"
She glanced at the helmet connected to her computer. The device allowed her to send her mind to Lyoko, a vitral world.
Three trips in total and each time she'd found something new. The last two revealed that others had access to Lyoko. She'd helped the group each time fight Xana's monsters.
From what she could tell this group were the good guys and reisdents of Lyoko like Xana or human like her.
The computer beeped, thirty precent complete. "Great another seventy to good."
When she got devirtaizted the shock had left her disorated for hours. A new side effect of using the hemlet and going to Lyoko. In the first she'd have to be wary of being devirtalazed.
The second effect was the helmet had crashed. She spent the last hour trying to reboot the helmet.
"It's going to be a long night." She cracked her knuckles and got back to work.
Lynn's POV:
"You look like death.' Alexei asked upon seeing Kya. "What happened?"
"Mara's what happen." Kya rolled her eyes. ""She 'calms' she saw a rat. Then wouldn't let anyone else sleep until Mr. C checked all the girls' dorms. " She gave a deadpan stare to Alexai. "Guess who's dorm was last, while the princess got to sleep" Kya pointed to herself.
"Why didn't you go to Lynn's dorm" Alexei asked.
Not it's my turn to give him a 'duh' stare. "How would she do that if Mr. C's around?"
Kya and I sleeping over in each others' dorms is nothing new,even through it's against school rules. But Mr. C's the dorm supervisor and doesn't care as long as we don't get caught or do anything dangerous.
"Moving on." Kya pushed her tray aside to place a worn photo on the table. "I was able to spend the time researching this photo."
In the photo stood a woman with long purple hair and two kids. the children's faces were worn out, only giving enough details to show one was a boy and the other a girl.
'She's the owner of the mansion." Kya stated.
"And?" Alexei questioned,between bites.
"And what?" Kya countered.
"What else did you learn?" I addended
'That's it." She stated. "That's all I could find."
Cam grabbed the photo to study it. "It's a starting point." He placed the photo back on the table. "Learning who she is might lead us to the creator of the supercomputer."
Cam and Kya were in their own world, discussing how to use the information. The gist of it came to Kya continuing on her own. Cam's got several projects of his own to focus on something extra.
"You know the mansion's pretty close to the school and Kadic. Someone might know something." Alexei said, as he exited the cafeteria with the others.
They continued to discuss who at Kanna could proved information on the mansion's owner. The list was small since they were unable to identify the year the photo was taken. Lynn suggestd looking through previous yearbooks for the boy and girl. Cam shot that idea down. The photo Kya had was to worn to see their faces. Thus they'd be looking for people they couldn't idenify.
"We could still look for the woman in past yearbooks." Lynn countered.
They entered the courtyard, marking their way to class. Lynn would eventually split off to head for the upper school building. The others would continue to the lower school's area. Sometimes the upper and lower classes shared space. These times allowed the friends to have class together with Lynn, who's a year older and one grade above them.
"Considering the state of the manision and photo. The photo is probably around ten years ol-" Kya was cut off by a soccer ball to the head.
The ball came from the left and smacked into her forehead and cheek. Kya's head was knocked to the side, her body crumbled to the ground.
Alexei stifled a laugh as Lynn and Cam checked on Kya. She pressed a palm to her temple.
"Kya, you okay?" Devin, a boy in Lynn's grade and soccer teammate ran over with one other person.
"Told you not to try that shot." Sylive knelt down to check on Kya. "You should go to the nurse."
Sylive was in the same grade as Kya, but had a different schudle. They shared two classes together.
Devin offered his back to Kya, "Hop on. I'll take you to Mr. C."
With Cam and Sylive's help, Kya was on Devin's back.
"We'll see you in class later." Alexei dragged Cam; the worry wart away. From exercising and practicing with Kya, Alexei's learnt that she doesn't like people fussing over her injures. It's why he didn't help when she got hit. Cam and Sylive were enough, any more would be uncomfortable.
He knew Devin from being on the same soccer team and Sylive from class. "Kya's in good hands." Alexei told his friend. "Remember too many absences or us missing will make it difficult to leave if Xana attacks."
At that reminder, Cam and Lynn reluctantly allowed Alexei to take them to class.
"So you tried to catch the ball with her head, why?" Mr. C finished listening to Sylive's explaination of Kya's injures.
"Wasn't Kya's fault Devin's got bad aim." Sylive stated.
"Hey it was by mistake. I was practicing for the next soccer season." Devin stated.
"Doesn't change the fact Kya's injured because of you." Mr. C sipped his coffee.
Devin gave a face look of dismay while Sylive giggled. The two spoke a bit more before Mr. C ushered them co out.
'They talk to much." Mr. Ce njoyed his work as t school's nurse. he didn't have to grade (unless his brother , Mr. Z, roped to him into helping) and his office was q quiet. Students came for two reasons, they were ill or injured and place to 'hide'.
He'd kick out students who were trying to shi skip class and let those who needed a 'break' stay.
Kya was use to the infirmary. Between her injuries from figure skating and 'hiding' from Mara, being was was like a second home.
"Have you read the newest issue of Revolt vs Rebel?" Kya asked, pressing the palm of her hand to her temple. The pressure eased some of the pain.
"Read it?" Mr. C. grabbed a pain of gloves and tiny flashlight. "I got it a week before release day."
Mr. C's love of comics was a secret between himself and Kya. They'd borrow comics and share options. Kya was introduced to comics e before birth by her older brothers. Instead of bed time stories, they read comics to Kya. It's thanks to their biweekly comic care packages that Alexei's always asking to be borrow t her comics.
"What happened to sharing?" Kya asked. She winced in pain from the gloved hand touching her head..
Mr. C gingerly inspected the injured, checking for bum bumps and bruises. The skin was red with a bruise forming under Kya's left eye and temple. Nothing indicated anything worst. For good measure, he checked her eyes with his flashlight.
"Sharing? How do you have time for that, when you haven't been going f to figure skating practice?" Mr. C tossed a bottle of water and pain meds to Kya.
" I asked you to cover for me one time." Kya grumbled. When Xana attacked once, Kya was suppose to be at practices'.
"I ask you to cover for me one time." Kya grumbled.
Back when they were searching for the Lyoko keys, Emi had located one. It was after school, but Lynn was in his auditions for the music competition. That left Kya and Alexei to go to Lyoko. However, Kya practice had figure skating practice with Lillie. So she asked Mr. C to inform Lillie she'd fallen and injured her ankle and had to rest for the day. Of course Kya had to res f Kya had to repay Mr. C. She did so by organizing the supply room in the infirmary. Since than whenever Kya m skip misses more than three practices, Lille calls Mr. C to check on Kya.
"What? No thanks?" Mr. C smirked. "Does your l missing practice have anything to o do with Cam skipping class?"
"Upp-" Kya chocked on the water. "What?"
"You not badly injured, but will be in a lot of pain." Mr. C w wrote something on his clipboard.
"I'm writing you a pass. It's good for a week and week and allows you to leave class when you ha head injury 'hurts'." He handed two slip to Kya. "The second allows for up to two friends or students to accompany you."
Kya accepted the passes, wondering how much he knew.
"Don't abuse these, k?" Mr. C went to the fridge by the cabinet. " he took out o an ice pack and tossed it to Kya. "ice it at least once a day. Come see me if it gest worst." he than sat at his desk.
Kya placed the ice pack on her temple. "That's it? You not going to send me back to class?"
Mr. C shrugged. "Technically your 'well' enough to attend class. But honestly, would you be able to focus?"
things hand stopped spinning, but the throbbing made it impossible to focus. "No."
Mr. C nodded. Exactly, so there's no o point in marking you suffer more."
Kya said nothing else and releax on the infirmary's bed. her thoughts drifted back to the mansion's owner. After not coming up with any idea, she went over to see what comic Mr. C a was reading. Than something on the desk caught her attention. A photo of two boys about twelve and thirteen was take in a familiar location. But it was the woman with pr purple hair that Kya stared at.
"That was taken ten years ago in the courtyard." Mr. C explained. "That woman was the school's nurse."
You and Mr. Z were students here!?" Kya shouted. "Wait, this woman I've seen her before."
"She aw the faculty advise for the science club as well. Plus her son and daughter went to school here. The daughter was my age and the son in my brother's grade." Mr. C spoke about his past, something he rarely did.
"It sounds like there were important to you. What happened to them" Kya sked, using the opportunity to get more information.
Mr. C sighed. "They stopped coming to the school, like they disappeared. We, my brother and I, looked up to her. She's the reason we have our current jobs. Her kids our best friends." H looked at the photo "The three of them lived in a nearby mansion in the forest. We seared there for clues but found nothing."
After school:
Emi's POV:
"Why don't we explore the forest instead?" Wave suggested.
I continued walking, silently letting her know it's her choise to follow or not.
"There's always Aelita and her friends? We can get your friends from Kanna to come over." Wave's foot steps caught up. She matched my pace and walked beside me.
"Come on Emi, any where but Kanna!" Wave stepped in my a path.
I crossed my arms. "Explain why you don't want to go to Kanna."
She played with a strand of her hair. "Remember when we found that abandon mansion in the woods?"
I nodded, knowing she referred to the day we ran into Kya and Calex. Wave had freaked out and insisted on leaving before they founds us.
"The guy with Kya is my older step-brother, Calex. he doesn't know I go to Kadic and neither do our parents. They all think I'm at a boarding school in _." Wave wanted to attend school with Calex, but their parents sent her to a school for gifted and talented students. Apprently after being there for several months, she'd gathered enough info to transfer schools the same time her bother did.
'How'd you pull this off with out anything noticing?" I quested.
'Hacking." She meekly admitted. Wave hacked Kadic and her former school, along with creating a program to modify information that the schools and her parents received. "Several friends also cover for me.
That's Cam level of computer skill. I thought. "Calex will tell your parents if he finds out?"
Wave nodded. "Yes! So he can't discover me until I think of a way to convince him not to tell out parents.!"
I looked behind her. "Better think of something quick, we're at Kanna."
Wave's eyes widened. "Emi!"
"Come on, let's sneak you in." I guided her through the forest to the back of the dorms entrance. Once inside, we made our way up stairs to Kya's room. The door wasn't unlocked, so we went inside.
Kya lay on her bed, ice pack resting on her head. The open notebook and flashing computer screen hinted at her activity before we arrived.
"You look awful." Wave blurted out.
Kya opened getting hit on the head by a soccer ball."
"Sounds like you need to learn how to duck." Wave stated, than wondered over to the computer. 'What are you researching?"
Kya gave a grunt as she sat up. "That woman in the photo use to work here. Mr. C , the school's nurse, was a student here back than. And since he doesn't like to talk about himself, I figured if I could discover who this woman is. Mr. C was friends with her kids and they lived nearby. Very close to this school and Kadic." She looked at me for the last part.
The mention of them living close to the schools is a hint that this woman is connected to the mansion some how. Something Wave doesn't need to know about.
"He sounds like Jim." Wave mentioned Kadic's gym teacher. A cool guy, who always states 'I rather not talk about it' when it comes to his past.
"What have you been able to find?" Wave began looking through Kya's notes and computer.
"Not much." Kya gestured to the computer. "The school's website ony has basic info on current staff."
"How about the records room?" I suggested.
"Kya shook her head. 'We'd need to break in or ask Ally for help. I'd rather not owe her."
My breif encounters with h Ally revealed she's reasonable, but any favors asked require repayment. Alexei pays them, since Ally will request Alexei to spend time with Mara.
"Maybe Cam or I can find something online." One thing I missed a bout being on Lyoko was the unfiltered access to the internet.
Kya turned down my idea. "Cam's already stated he wouldn't be avaible to help me."
"Done". Wave announced. "You've got filtered access for twenty minutes'. Than the data hole I created will copasllse."
"You hacked into the school's sever in five minutes?" I looked at the screen to see a side bar full of code and a main internet browser of the school's internal files.
Wave shrugged. 'Did you forget our conversation outside? I've been preparing to transfer to Kanan. Of course, I'm able to hack the server. Now" she checked her watch. "You've got seventeen minutes to search."
"You rest, I'll do the research." I shoved Wave to the side to work.
Wave responded by hovering over my shoulder, watching me work.
