Chapter 30: My Home

ThatYGuy: Good, I want you to be confused! To not know what's happening next!

Robbeeyy: Trust me, you're not going to expect what's going on and what's happening! Oh and once they get back to Beacon, things are going to get crazier!

AverageReadingEnjoyer: Edmund is a completely different character and is not an ascended Jaune, and while I'm sure everyone knows that he's the Rusted Knight AKA the "Skull Knight" of the story, he's another character important in the history of Remnant. If you want to know more, Read my new story when it comes out, which is literally titled "The Girl Who Fell Through the World"!

NinjaFang1331: Thank you and I hope you Like this Chapter!

EmperorSnorlax: No, they're talking about a Certain feline~!

ASpanishReader: Once again, thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you really liked the last two chapters! Also, trust me, some things will be answered once the side story comes out, (Which will most likely be when Part 1 of Sunshine ends before the Beacon Act) but trust me, certain things are going to be answered and it's going to be crazy!

Asianman2: Indeed, and trust me, things are only going to get more complicated as we continue forward!

blaiseingfire: TOO BAD! THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM! MAWHAHAHAHAHA!

guestyboi: I'm just imagining that one scene from Deadpool! XD!

Long A/N at the end of the Chapter, Please Read!

(Also, this was supposed to be posted earlier around 6:30 Mountain time, but I fell asleep so it's being posted now! Sorry!)

In Tai's living room, everyone, besides Qrow and Tai, was gathered and sat on the furniture, Vernal sat on the recliner, Jaune sat on the couch with Oscar and Maria, Deery sat on one of the couches arms and Tai sat on the other recliner.

Jaune looked at Vernal, "How'd you find me here?" He asked with a bit of a smile.

Vernal sat forward and looked at him, "We've been following your path for a while, ever since you left us back In mistral, we arrived in Mantle and asked around for you hoping you were still around, but eventually, we ran into Robyn, we told her who we were and making sure we were telling the truth with her Semblance, she decided to help us and told us everything that happened while you were in Mantle," Vernal told him. "I guess she called in a favor from that General Ironwood, and he was able to find where you went and told her, she told us, and we flew here," She told him.

"Sounds like quite the trip," Jaune replied.

Vernal nodded, "It was, but... before we made it to Mantle, we stopped in Argus," She told him, "We met Saphron and Terra,"

Jaune's eyes widened with shock as he heard this, wondering how they met. "How did you meet them?" She asked.

"It was by chance honestly," Oscar butted in with a small smile. "We were looking for a place to stay and that's when we met them," He told Jaune.

Vernal took in a deep breath and then exhaled, "We told them about what had happened," she said.

Jaune looked a little afraid when he heard that, wondering how Saphron and Terra reacted as they now knew about the things he had done, but that's when Vernal put her hand on his knee to get his attention, and he looked at her as she looked at him with a reassuring expression.

"She was shocked, she couldn't believe everything that happened, but that didn't change a thing," Vernal told him, "She still loves you, Jaune, and she wanted to let you know that no matter what, she's still your big sister,"

Hearing that, Jaune couldn't help but feel some weight be lifted off of him, knowing that Saphron, the sister he was closest to still loved him after all that he had done, made him feel so much better.

"We also heard about what happened in Mantle and who this is," Maria said while pointing at Deery. "I guess you picked up another stray along the way, eh?"

"Hey!" Deery cried with an annoyed look.

Jaune nodded slowly, "Yeah, Deery's gonna be traveling with us," He told Maria, "I made a promise to keep her safe and I intend to keep it like I have been with Oscar," he said.

Oscar looked at Jaune with a raised brow, "Can she fight?" He asked.

Jaune nodded, "She's still a little rough around the edges, but she can fight with a bo-staff like the Happy Huntresses," He told him.

Tai then butted into the conversation as he looked to Oscar, "What about you kid, you trained?" He asked.

Oscar nodded, "Yeah, been training ever since I started traveling with Jaune and Vernal," He told Tai.

"He's a fast learner too," Vernal chimed in with a smirk. "Kid can put up one helluva fight!" She said proudly.

Jaune smiled as he looked at the younger teen, "Looks like you've gotten stronger, Oscar," He said, "Glad to know you haven't been slacking," Jaune finished.

Oscar beamed at the praise from both Vernal and Jaune as he looked at the two before he turned to Jaune, "Speaking of which, I want to have a spar with you, Jaune," Oscar told him, "I wanna see how my swordsmanship holds up against yours!" He said.

Jaune looked at him with a smile, and gave him a quick nod, "Alright, let's see how far you've come," He said.

The two stood up and headed outside to the backyard while the others simply had smiles on their faces and got up to follow the two outside to watch the spar between the two.

As they got outside, Jaune and Oscar took opposite sides of the backyard while off to the sidelines, each for different reasons. Vernal and Maria watched to see the progress he's made, Tai wanted to see how the younger teen would hold up against Jaune because Tai knew just how ferocious the younger blonde was, while Deery wanted to see what the younger teen was capable of since he had been traveling with Jaune longer then she had.

Jaune drew Crocea Mors, activated his shield, and took a fighting stance while Oscar unsheathed his sword from his back and held it with both hands and also took a fighting stance. Both took in deep breaths before exhaling and after a minute, the two charged at each other with blinding speed.

Jaune swung first, however, Oscar ducked under the swing, and rolled behind Jaune, quickly getting up and turning around to strike the older teen in the back, landing a blow, however, due to Jaune's Aura, he barely felt it and he spun around to attack once more with a wild swing. Realizing this, Oscar quickly backed away and watched as Jaune missed again, and as soon as he swung and missed, Oscar charged in and swung at Jaune, ready to deliver a 2nd attack, however, Jaune blocked his attack with his shield and pushed Oscar's attack back, before kicking the farmboy back.

Oscar stumbled backward but regained himself and saw Jaune coming in for an attack, he blocked with with his sword, pushed Jaune's sword away, and went in for another attack, but the blonde teen blocked the attack with his shield and pulled his sword back, intending to jab the younger boy. However, Oscar saw that attack and moved his head to the side, and quickly pulled his sword back to quickly go for another attack, this time, Jaune dodged and backed away, causing the attack to miss.

Jaune looked at the younger boy and smiled, proud at seeing the farmboy lasting far longer in their spar, truly showing he had grown.

Jaune charged it and he quickly delivered many slashes with great speed, and much to Oscar's chagrin, he was once again having trouble keeping up with the older teen's speed, still only managing to block and deflect some of Jaune's sword swings.

However, instead of continuing to try and keep up, he quickly saw an opening and dodged the attack before going in for his own attack and slashing Jaune across his side, causing Jaune to grunt in pain. Oscar quickly moved behind Jaune and slashed him across the back, once again inflicting slight pain on the older teen, however, Jaune tried to hit Oscar with the pommel of his sword, but Oscar blocked the attack, however, it seemed that the attack was a lot more strengthened as it seemed to push Oscar back, skidding across the ground.

On the sidelines, Tai smiled, impressed that Oscar was able to keep up with Jaune so far, and even realized that he was quickly being overpowered and moved away instead of trying to play defense. "Kids good, still as much to improve but he's quick on his feet and is smart in a fight," Tai complimented.

Maria nodded, "Indeed," She said, "It was one of the first things I taught him, to recognize when he's outmatched and being overpowered, course, it took him a while to take it to heart," She said with a smile.

Tai nodded, "However, I think that no matter what, He's not going to win this fight," Tai said.

Maria nodded with a slight smile, "I have to agree," she said.

Deery looked at the two with raised brows, "Huh? But why?" She asked, "He seems to be doing pretty good so far, even if it's just for a spar," Deery said.

Vernal nodded, "Yeah, he's doing good so far, but despite how much better he's gotten, no matter what, he's still not going to win, and that's because of who he's up against," Vernal told her, "I know you've seen Jaune fight, how ferocious he can be and how skilled he is with his sword, however, it's not just that, if you add in his large amount of aura reserves and his semblance, which can boost his aura to near infinite levels, along with his stamina, make Jaune a human tank," Vernal said.

Tai chuckled, "In other words, if you're ever unsure who is going to win... Always bet on Jaune," He said.

From upstairs in the window, Qrow watched the fight with a smirk, seeing just how well the younger boy was holding up and just how... calm the blonde knight was during the fight.

'Blondie's got a different air about him,' Qrow thought, 'He's not fighting with anger, frustration, or any other emotion, in fact, he's fighting as calm as can be, as if he's been fighting for years... He's fighting like he's a veteran Huntsman,'

Many Hunstmen never live a long life, but those who do should be feared for their skill and their sheer mastery of their techniques.

As the saying goes:

"Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young"

It took Tai and Qrow years to learn to fight and be calm at the same time, which Tai was able to do far better than Qrow, sometimes letting his emotions get the better of him, for someone of Jaune's age to fight and not be frustrated by a few hits or the missed attack was shocking.

Something had changed with the young boy, a few days ago, he was fighting with anger, yet now, he was as calm as ever...

But why?

Eventually, the spar came to an end, with Oscar being too exhausted, and Jaune called it off after he could see Oscar tuckering himself out.

Tai looked at Jaune and Oscar as they sheathed their weapons, "Ya know when you guys return to Vale, Oscar could stay here and register for Signal,"

However, Jaune shook his head, "No," Jaune replied, "When the year begins again, I think I'll Ozpin if Oscar can stay and train there, I don't think him being far away from Vernal and me is a good idea, and I... I don't wanna leave him behind again," Jaune replied.

As if appearing out of nowhere, Qrow dropped down from the upstairs window and looked at Jaune with a smile, "Oz might let that happen," He said.

Jaune and Oscar were surprised by this, as was Vernal as the three stared at the older Branwen.

"Ozpin has always bent the rules here and there, I'm sure he can make the exception for your friends being there," Qrow informed him, "I'll ask him ahead of time and have him give you a call to let you know if he's all for it," He told him.

Jaune, Oscar, and Vernal smiled at this as there was a possibility that they weren't going to be split up for a second time and Deery was also happy to hear this as it meant she was going to still be traveling with Jaune.

Maria chuckled, "But we still have to get to Vacuo," She said.

Tai nodded, "Very true," He said. Tai then looked at the younger blonde with a smile and a raised brow, "When do you plan on leaving?" he asked.

Jaune looked at Tai, "Not for a few more days," He replied. "I think we all needed some supplies and some more money before leaving for Vacuo," He said.

Tai nodded "That's fine, besides, with the new hands, we can get our work done a whole lot faster," he told him, "But it's almost dinner time! So if everyone also helps out we can get that done a lot faster too!" Tai said with a smile.

Jaune couldn't help but smile and he noticed that everyone else also smiled as they all followed Tai back into the house to help cook dinner, and in that moment, surrounded by the people he cared for and loved deeply, he couldn't help but feel like he had a long time ago before he left for Beacon...

He felt at home.

Later that night, Jaune walked outside to the porch and looked out to the forest and the night sky, finding the sight once again to be beautiful and so peaceful, once more he didn't have Crocea Mors strapped to his side, leaving it back in his room once again. He took a seat on one of the porch steps and looked out to the view, continuing to smile.

"Not gonna run off again, are you?"

Jaune turned his head and saw Vernal looking at him with a smile as she walked over to him and sat down next to him, joining Jaune in looking at the view.

Jaune chuckled and shook his head, "Don't worry, I'm not running away again," He told her.

"Arc's word?" She asked

Jaune nodded, "Arc's word," he replied. He turned to Vernal and noticed something different about her. "Your hair..." He began.

Vernal heard him and turned to him with a raised brow, "What about it?"

"It's gotten longer," He told her.

Vernal touched her hair and realized he was right, her hair had indeed gotten longer, and it was beginning to go over her ears. "Oh, I guess I didn't really notice," She said, "Does it bother you?" She asked.

Jaune shook his head, "No, it looks good," He said with a smile, "Just thought it was something different," He said.

Vernal smiled with a nod, "Thanks, but I don't think my hair's the only one that's gotten longer," She replied, pointing at him.

Jaune touched his hair and realized it too had grown and that shocked him a little but smiled. "Guess it has gotten longer, but I don't think I'm gonna cut it, probably just put it up in a ponytail," He replied.

Vernal nodded with a small chuckle, "I think you'd look good with a ponytail," She said, "But to be fair, I think we all could use an outfit change," She admitted. "Mostly you, you still need new armor," She told him.

Jaune nodded, "I know, it feels weird not wearing any," He replied, "Though, I don't think I'm gonna go for the gold and white like before... I don't think it suits me anymore," He told her.

Vernal nodded, "I suppose it doesn't anymore, after all, you're no paladin anymore," She said with a smirk.

Jaune couldn't help but smile at her comment, remembering how he compared her to being a Rouge from B&B back before they left the Branwen Tribe.

Vernal looked at him with a bit of a worried look, "How are you holding up?" She asked.

Jaune looked back at her with a small smile, "Before I came here, I wasn't doing so good, Vernal," He told her "I was troubled about so many things, I went on another slaughter because I didn't want Deery to end up like Melissa, I killed someone when I could've just easily just knocked them out, yet they joined the countless bodies that I leave behind me as I keep walking down this path... I began to worry that all the things I believed about myself, all the things the people I killed called in me in their final moments were true... I was afraid that I was a monster, that I'd end like Raven, a ruthless person who'd throw others away, or I'd end up like my dad, never finding peace just wallowing in guilt,"

Vernal looked at him with wide eyes and worry, knowing she had thought the same things as he did, knowing that she was afraid she'd be the same as Raven or that she just be another cruel and evil person in the world, that she'd become a monster. "I'll be honest Jaune, I thought the same as you," Vernal told him

Jaune looked at her with wide eyes, shocked to hear she had the same fears as he.

"During our stay with your sister, I held Adrien and I couldn't help but see how innocent and how untouched he was by the cruel world we've both experienced, but as I held him, I couldn't help but think it was wrong..." She began, "I thought that a person like me, who committed so many sins, who shed so much blood, shouldn't be allowed to hold something so pure and innocent, it felt so undeserved... and that's when it hit me, I realized why you didn't come to Argus, and why you left us behind, it was because you thought the same as me, you thought you were too tainted, to covered in blood to be near those that weren't, you thought you'd bring them nothing but pain, and I was afraid of the same thing the longer we stayed there, I began to have the same fears as you, but I also realized how we can help move pass those problems, and we just have to-"

"Stick together," Jaune cut in.

Vernal looked at him and gave him a small smile, "Yeah, we stick together, we keep each other safe, and we keep each other in check, we both need the other to keep each other in check, that's how partners work, right?" Vernal asked with a smirk.

Jaune nodded, "Yeah," Jaune said with a smile. "Vernal," He called to her,

"Yeah?"

"No matter what, no matter how hard things are going to get, I'm not going to run away again, I'm not going to leave you or the others again... Oscar, Maria, Deery, Tai, Qrow, and you... you're my family, you're my home," He told her as he looked at her.

Vernal looked back at him and hearing him say those words made her feel warm in her chest as she smiled and blushed. "You're my home too, Jaune," Vernal told him.

Jaune also couldn't help but feel a similar warmth inside of him and he smiled brightly, with that said, they both looked night sky, enjoying the view and both feeling right where they should be... by each other's side.

However, deep in the woods and from the shadows, a knight in rusted armor who sat atop a Jackalope that also was covered in rusted armor watched the two, and while one could not see the knight's eyes if one could, they would see both shock and hope. However, he still had a mission, so he turned away and walked deeper into the forest while chanting a poem.

A Poem about a fallen King...

"Upon a concrete throne, This king is but a shell, Praying to the heavens, But his heart belongs to hell, He gave his all to nothing, He'll take the one thing left, The devil laughing as he falls, Just won another bet,"

What a Happy Chapter huh? Man, it finally seems like things are looking up for the group right now, isn't that great?

What?

Oh, you're wondering why Jaune and Vernal were being watched by the Rusted Knight? Well too bad! You're just gonna have to wait and see, but I will leave you with a cryptic message...

In the future, know that when the Rusted Knight is around... bad things will be on the horizon...

(Also that Poem is a portion of a larger poem by Taylor Cooley called "The Fallen King")

ANYWAY! Let's move on to some good and bad news!

So I thought this might be the best time to address the constant updating on Sunshine while many of my other stories have fallen behind.

I want to heavily apologize for that it's just that with those ones, I was able to plan out 10 or so chapters before I kind of tried to figure out where to go from there and lost track of what I wanted for the story and the characters, but it's a little bit different with Sunshine since it's a true passion project and it's a love letter to RWBY, Berserk, Vagabond, and Vinland Saga and seems to be one of my most popular stories.

With that said, I promise to update those stories more and more alongside Sunshine, however, I do wish to discuss some other stories that are going to be discontinued, some that are coming in the near future, and ones that are going to be put on hold until I can fully plan them out more then what I have.

Bad news first, here are the stories that will be discontinued:

1. The Boy King

2. Forever Fall

So Here's a list of Stories that will be Put on Hold:

1. Enemy

2. Warriors

Stories that will eventually be updated and tried to be Updated more often are:

1. Sunshine

2. The Soldier & The Knight: Part 1

3. Rising Dawn

4. Jaune's Multiverse Madness!

Now, As for the new upcoming stories that won't be coming out too soon as I do need to flesh them out a bit more are:
