Chapter 6: Relinquishing Reigns and A Devilish offer

"I'm sorry Naruto-san, but the fracture in your right ankle is pretty severe. There's a chance it could heal naturally with time, but most likely you will need surgery," Dr Nahara said as he pointed at the X-rays, "You have a trimalleolar fracture, that means your lateral malleolus, the medial malleolus, and the distal posterior aspect of the tibia are cracked as you can see right here, and could very easily break,"
"How long would it take with surgery?" Naruto asked, frowning with concern over his future.
"Healing along could take about six weeks, but then you'd have to go to physical therapy which might take a couple more months," the doctor explained honestly.
Naruto looked at Mr Miyagi, and said, "So either way, I have to give up the championship,"
"Like I said, you could heal naturally, but yes, the recovery process would be long," Dr Nahara stated plainly.
Mr Miyagi looked at Naruto, stroking his chin, "It's up to you if you wanna take the surgery, Naruto-san. Whatever the remaining cost is our company will cover it,"
"How long do I have to decide?" Naruto asked the doctor.
"It could take two to three weeks to set you up for surgery," The doctor stated,
Naruto opened up the show a week after his injury, resting his right side on his crutch so that no weight would fall onto his right foot as he waited for the cameras to start rolling. Unfortunately, this week's show was not in Kouh, but rather in the nearby city of Akihabara, in front of seven thousand people.
He held his title in his left shoulder for the last time, and spoke, "Hey, everyone, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,"
The crowd cheered as he said his introduction, however they quickly hushed as he began to speak again, "I owe you all an apology. As you can see, after the events of Last week's match. Me and Ryudo went to war over this title, and unfortunately there was an accidental with the steel cage that caused it to fail,"
Naruto paused for a moment as he gathered his words, "Ryudo is fine, he had some bruising in his back but no broken bones, no internal damage. He wants you all to know he appreciates each and everyone of you, and he will be back once he is feeling better but for now he's gonna stay away from wrestling for a little while to be with his wife and kids,"
The crowd cheered once again, there were some boos mixed in.
He raised his microphone again, stating, "As for me? I got a severe fracture on my right foot. I don't know when I will be back, could be as little as a month or two, could be more. But for that reason I can't fulfill my duties as a fighting champion, so I am relinquishing the title so that you all can get a champion that is gonna fight for this title,"
The blond adjusted his championship on his shoulders, and said, "I just want to thank everyone who has stood behind me, and believed in me. Because I wouldn't be here without Mr Miyagi. But I wouldn't have made it as far as I have if I didn't have you behind me as well."
The crowd began cheering again, this time giving him chants of "You deserve it!"
Naruto spoke, "But don't think I am retiring, or quiting. Cause as soon as i recover and cleared to wrestle again, I am coming back. I love KEW, I love Wrestling, I love performing in front of you guys, because this is my home, and goddamn I love my home,"
Then he raised the championship, "And when I come back! I will reclaim my title, and give you all a hell of a run, because that's what you all deserve. Thank you so much for the opportunity, I love you all, and i hope you enjoy the show,"
Then he carefully and respectfully laid the championship on the canvas of the ring. And one step at a time walked towards the ropes, where he laid down and rolled onto the apron, and got off the ring.
As he walked up the ramp, a tear fell onto his eyes, as he heard the chants continue, "Thank you, Naruto!"
Once he made it to the curtains, Mr Miyagi escorted him to the parking lot, where a black SUV van waited for him to take him back home.
Monday morning was Naruto's first day in school since the Friday before his title match, given not only his fractured ankle, but the other little injuries that had accumulated throughout the match that left him sore and barely able to move. And it was weird walking through the halls, usually everyone ignored him, but today they were all staring at him as he walked down the hall with a crutch.
But right now he needed to turn in all his missing assignments to the respective teachers so they could be graded and his grades not suffer due to his extended absence during the week he had been out.
He managed to still get through the school day. He made his way down the staircase towards the entrance. Cursing the engineers for not thinking of including an elevator as going down the stairs was a slow and unsteady process.
"Naruto-san?" A familiar voice called him, and the blond looked forward and saw Rias a couple steps below him walking up, "Do you need help?"
"Could you, please?" He said thankful to have someone willing to help him.
Rias came around to his right side and slung his right arm over her shoulder. Though she had to remain a step above him because he was a bit taller than her.
As they made it to the bottom of the staircase, Rias turned tk him and said, "I wanna thank you for getting Koneko those tickets. She doesn't speak much, but that meant alot to her,"
"It was nothing really," Naruto replied as he let go of Rias. Stating, "To be honest, a huge part at least for me in the industry is the amount of charity work we do, while the televised show is only on saturday, friday and sunday is spent wherever we are hanging out with disabled or terminally ill kids, you know?"
"That's sweet of you," the red haired woman said, as she handed him a leaflet.
Naruto took it and saw the weird summoning circle inscribed in it and raised a questioning eyebrow at her.
"Just an invitation to the occult research club if you feel like hanging out, it's where Koneko and myself spend most of our time," Rias stated, resting an hand on his left shoulder, "Just think about it, okay? Don't think that you are a big bad college student that you can't hang out with us,"
"I'll think about it, Rias," Naruto said as he gave her a smile.
Later that night, Naruto finished up his homework for the day. And sat at his desk with his laptop open, as he focused on the previous show's recording. Even though he was at home now, and in the first five minutes of the video when originally filmed he had relinquished his title.
His commitment to his wrestling career was so strong that even watching it through his computer made him feel as if he should be in the locker room changing and getting ready for the show.
He wondered who would fill in the vacancy left in the aftermath of his and Ryudo's match. He wondered where this injury left his future, would he be able to renegotiate his contract more favorably when that came up? Would he still be scouted by NJPW?
More importantly, would he be able to help provide for his family? Send his brother off to the school he wanted to send issei?
The more the thoughts dwelled in his head, the more his desire to heal quicker so that he could get back in the ring sooner increased.
So immersed was he in his thoughts that he didn't notice a red summoning circle appear in the ground behind him nor the figure that emerged from in it. Until a gentle voice called out to him startling the blond from his thoughts, "Naruto?"
Said blond flinched, which caused his right leg to jump a bit before smacking down. In turn causing Naruto to have to grit his teeth as he rolled his chair back and hunched over to clutch his ankle.
Them he turned to meet the unexpected arrival, looking quite confused as he asked, "Rias, how did you get here?"
"You called to me," Rias said as she moved to sit in his desk, "The summoning leaflet,"
She took a deep breath and explained, "You see, Naruto, I am a devil. And typically, us devils hand out those leaflets to people with deep desires. Usually granting them a wish, can range from something as menial like dealing with house chores to larger things like granting access to our library or helping them find things that can't be found in the human world, usually in exchange for money,"
"I don't really have any desires you could really help me with, unless you could instantly heal my leg," Naruto said, looking at her bat like wings that she had exposed to help her make a point.
"I can actually, but It's not something I am sure you would be willing to do yet," Rias replied as she made a chess piece magically appear in her hand, "The quickest way to heal your leg would be to use one of my evil pieces on you. You'd would be healed instantly, the downside is that you would become a devil yourself,"
"Huh, that's actually interesting. But what's the catch," Naruto asked raising an eyebrow, "I doubt you'd be happy to do it for free,"
"Actually, I have been wanting to approach you about recruiting you," the red haired devil said as she set the chess piece on the desk next to her, "See, I suspect you have an sacred gear, a sacred gear bestowed by the biblical god upon humans that grant them powers and abilities normal humans wouldn't usually have, and I want you to join my peerage so we can bring out that potential in you,"
"I don't have whatever a sacred gear is or any special powers, Rias," Naruto said frowning, "I am just good ole Naruto, nothing more, nothing less,"
"You do, trust me, and even if you didn't have one. I have to admit you aren't like any other human I have met before," Rias stated, as she leaned towards him and bit her lips, "But I do have to admit, there are consequences if I was to turn you into a devil. If I reincarnate you using this evil piece, then you'd be tied down to me, you would become my servant. I understand that this may not be something that sounds appealing, you would essentially become a slave. I wouldn't treat you like that, I want to get to know you as a person, I cannot force you to become my servant, and I want to honestly be your friend. So if you say no I'll understand. But if you do say yes, I'll grant you any wish it's within my power to give,"
Naruto leaned back in his chair and thought about it, looking at the chess piece that this beautiful creature promised him would heal his injury. Looked back at the screen where the show was still playing.
He looked back at her and asked, "Would I still be able to wrestle with KEW?"
"Of course," Rias said smiling, "I don't treat my servants like slaves nor expect them to give up everything for me. Honestly, they are a family I have put together for myself. My best friend and oldest member of my peerage is like my sister. One of your brother's classmates, Kiba Yuuto, is like my little brother. Koneko… I have to admit, sometimes it's hard to remember that she is a member of my peerage and as opposed to my daughter, as weird as that sounds considering she's only two years younger than me,"
Blonde could definitely believe that, considering in what little he had seen of Rias and Koneko, the red haired devil definitely acted towards the little white haired girl as doting as his own mother was to him and Issei.
"I… I think I'll do it," Naruto said hesitantly, "My one request is that you help me get Issei to this school I have been talking to my parents about sending him to. It's a military boarding school in America, would help him become more disciplined and respectful and curve his perverted tendencies,"
"I will have it done before the weekend," Rias said, giving him a dazzling smile, "Do you mind if I asked you, why didn't you ask for something more selfish?"
Naruto nodded, "I've made some mistakes in my life. One that brought shame to my family, and almost derailed my whole life. But even still my family has stuck with and believed in me, even though I am adopted. I can never pay that back. That's enough for me, and also, I like working for the things I have,"
"Naruto," Rias said leaning a bit more towards him, "You should be careful. Your kindness and love for your family makes me want to keep you for myself,"
"Am I already not giving myself to you?" Naruto asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You know what i mean," Rias said, pulling back a bit, "I admit, I found you very attractive that time Koneko brought you into our club room for the first time. But I am more interested in knowing the person beneath the character, and so far, mama likes,"
