In the morning after having worked very hard on the tail all night, Brooklyn was yawning heavily, helping Hiccup carry a basket of fish while Hiccup carried his equipment. He never thought that making a new tail fin for a dragon would be so hard. In his mind, Brooklyn felt relieved that his Skrill didn't have a defect, though he wouldn't tell Hiccup that, missing his stone sleep after doing another yawn.
Hiccup called out in the cove. "Toothless! Voltwing! We brought breakfast!" He yelled, Brooklyn placing the fish down, wiping his brow. "I may end up eating a raw fish if I don't eat something soon. That tail fin building was so hard to make."
It caused the teen to laugh. "Well, when you've been a blacksmith for as long as I have, making something like this is nothing to me."
Brook rolled his eyes. "Alright then—oof! Voltwing!" He had stumbled to the ground, dropping the basket of fish when his Skrill charged playfully onto him, licking his face and purring. "Ack! No kisses! Stop!" Chortled Brooklyn while Toothless mostly noticed the fish, sniffing it carefully.
Hiccup grinned at the fondness between the Skrill and his friend. "We brought breakfast bud. Hope you're hungry!" Voltwing had heard the word breakfast, tilting his head in excitement, climbing off of Brooklyn who was covered in slobber, standing up.
Toothless and Voltwing both glared at each other for a moment before they soon came to a mutual understanding, Voltwing taking a fish first and eating it. Hiccup nods at Voltwing taking one. "We've got salmon, some nice Icelandic cod, and a whole smoked eel." Hearing the word eel made both dragons jerk back, snarling.
Brooklyn wondered what was going on after cleaning himself up, seeing the eel in the basket, picking it up while Hiccup kept going behind Toothless. The Skrill and Night Fury both roared their distastes, Voltwing swatting the eel away, Brooklyn yelping out from the move, holding his hands up. "Whoa, whoa, ok, take it easy, you don't have to eat it." He said gently.
Hiccup sees Toothless give a snort in disgust, agreeing with him. "Yeah, I don't really like eel much either." He muttered, Brooklyn nodding. He once tried eel and hated the sour taste, having spat it out. Brooklyn sat down, watching the dragons eat, his eyes drifting to Hiccup who kept sneaking around Toothless to put the tail fin on. "That's it. Just keep doing that while I am back here… minding my own business."
Toothless downed a whole fish, Voltiwing heating up one with his lightning, then eating it, Hiccup trying to strap his new invention onto Toothless who kept twitching his tail, Voltwing growling when seeing what was going on but Brooklyn quickly held out a fish to get his dragon's attention.
Hiccup quickly calmed down Toothless from moving his tail so much, finally placing both hands on it, straddling on the tail, beginning to tighten it so it wouldn't fall off.
Brooklyn while petting Voltwing suddenly feel what was being done to him from behind, the fish basket falling off his face, and looking surprised, then began raising his wings. "Uh oh…" Brooklyn muttered under his breath, Hiccup not even noticing. Before the former gargoyle could warn him, Hiccup looking proud of himself, Toothless wound up taking to the air, startling Voltwing who hissed in surprise, standing near Brooklyn, Hiccup screaming his head off.
"No, no, no!" Hiccup shouted, Brooklyn running underneath. "Jump off!" He screamed, but Toothless already began to fall down to earth, screeching loudly. The two looking at each other, Brooklyn quickly climbs onto Voltwing's back, holding on tight as he encouraged Voltwing to take to the air just in time to see Hiccup managing to open up the tail fin, sending Toothless soaring again.
A big smile appeared on Brooklyn's face, seeing the Night Fury being able to fly once more, Hiccup laughing joyfully. "Oh, it's working! Brooklyn, it's working!" He shouted to Brooklyn who kept following them on his Skrill, Hiccup guiding Toothless back down into the cove, gliding above the water. That was when Toothless noticed the human still on his tail, narrowing his eyes, then throwing Hiccup off into the pond. Brooklyn winced when watching his friend hitting the surface, then Toothless falling into the water too after realizing he couldn't fly without the human's help.
Landing Voltwing, Brooklyn slipped off, going to help him only to see Hiccup cheer after appearing out of the water again. Brooklyn's face cracked a smile, not having seen his friend this happy for so long. "I think we both need saddles." He suggested, helping Hiccup get out of the pond while Toothless shook the water off of him. Hiccup nods in agreement, wiping water out of his eyes. "Yeah, definitely. But for now we should get back so we can actually make them."
Brooklyn agrees with Hiccup, petting Voltwing gently in a goodbye manner before the two soon snuck their way out of the cove, and back into the village where soon the next Dragon Training lesson would start where they battle the two headed dragon. In his mind; Brooklyn figured too he would have to find some kind of material to protect him from the lightning on his dragon since bareback, he would be dead.
….
"Today, is about teamwork!" Called Gobber to the teens in the arena as a big billowing cloud of smoke, shielding the Zippleback from their view. Brooklyn was with Fishlegs and Hiccup while Snotlout was with Tuffnut, and Astrid with Ruffnut when they got split up. "Now, a wet dragon's head can't light its fire. The Hideous Zippleback is extra tricky. One head breathes gas, the other head lights it! Your job is to know which is which!" Gobber continued to lecture, Brooklyn holding his water bucket tight which was a little heavy. As a gargoyle he would have held it no problem as he glared. "As long as none of us get eaten by this thing…" He muttered under his breath.
Fishlegs was panicking while blabbering his knowledge about the Zippleback. "Razor sharp serrated teeth, that inject venom for pre digestion. Prefers ambush attack, crushing its victims…"
Both Hiccup and Brooklyn glared at the nerd Viking. "Will you please stop that?!" They hissed at the same time out of their own fear. Snotlout looked around on his end, smirking in overconfidence. "If that dragon shows either of his faces, I'm gonna— there!" He shouted, pointing to a shadowy figure, he and Tuffnut throwing their water.
Shouts came from their targets; revealing Astrid and Ruffnut all wet now. "Hey! It's us idiots!" Ruffnut growled.
Tuffnut grinned snarkily at his sister. "Your butts are getting bigger, we thought you were a dragon." He sniggered. Snotlout attempted to lighten the mood, Brooklyn watching from his end rolling his eyes. "Not that there's anything wrong with a dragonesque figure—agh!" He was punched by Astrid along with Ruffnut hitting her brother with her bucket.
Brooklyn grinned at Snotlout getting what was coming to him until Tuffnut was yanked into the smoke, yelping out loud, making Brooklyn tense up, knowing it was probably the Zippleback. He saw Tuffnut managing to get out of there, holding his side. "Oh! I'm hurt! I'm very much hurt!"
Fishlegs was shaking, both Brooklyn and Hiccup staying near him, hoping being in a group would be the best thing to do. "Changes of survival are dwindling into single digests now! He whimpered. The former gargoyle then spotted one of the Zippleback heads which caused him to step back out of nervousness from his last encounter with one, Fishlegs giving out cries of fright, throwing his water on the Zippleback head though it was the one with the gas. "Oh, heh, wrong head…" Fishlegs said, grinning nervously.
Hissing, the Zippleback shot out its deadly gas, making Fishlegs make a break for it, leaving Hiccup now facing it. "Hiccup, do it!" Shouted Brooklyn when seeing the other head with the sparks. His friend however wound up throwing the water rather weakly, getting him wet instead. "Oh, come on!"
Brooklyn froze at the Zippleback snarling, towering over Hiccup along with Gobber looking worried until to their surprise, Hiccup stood up, holding out his hands. "Back, back, back!" He shouted, the two headed dragon somehow obeying his commands. Brooklyn raised his brow, wondering what was going on, Hiccup managing to scare the Zippleback into its cage.
"Now think about what you've done…" Hiccup said, reaching into his vest for something, closing the gate afterward, turning around to the others who were staring dumbstruck at him, Brooklyn laughing a little at their looks. Hiccup shrugs. "Ok, so, are we done? 'Cause I've got some things I need to do and uh… yep. See-see you tomorrow!" He said, quickly running out of the arena with Brooklyn racing after him.
"How did you do that?" Brooklyn whispered softly to Hiccup who gave him a sly smile. "Just the magic of eels." He replied back, the red gargoyle turned human grinning back, realizing now that Hiccup had taken the eel from the cove with him. "Not bad." They had a feeling that soon things would be turning around for them both in the arena if Hiccup continued to use his new tricks on the dragons, heading to the blacksmith to make their saddles.
