Destiny's POV
Wow!
I mean, I knew chipmunks and mice were smart, but I had absolutely no idea that they could make a literal house inside of a tree (no pun intended). Anyways. Chip led me past all the various rooms until we approached what could only be the living room. "Here's our living quarters. We've got everything in here. We even have our own tv. So you can watch anything you want." I couldn't believe my eyes. Where the heck did they get all this stuff? Better yet, HOW the heck did they get all this stuff? I just stood there in awe at the magnificence of this place. "You okay there Destiny?" Chip asked me. "What, o-oh yeah. I've just never seen anything like this before in my life. This is so cool." "Thanks Destiny. That's very nice of you." Chip replied before taking my hand and leading me to another area which looked like a kitchen.
"This here's the dining area. And yes we do have a fridge with real food in it. So if your feeling hungry feel free to get a bite or two." "Got it. Thanks Chip. Look, I don't want to interrupt this amazing tour, but I could use some new clothes." Chip was confused at first but than remembered that I was still in my nightgown. Those pink circles formed on his fuzzy cheeks again until he broke the silence. "Oh r-right, sorry about that. I guess I should've showed you to where you'll be staying first before everything else. Follow me." I obliged and followed him down the hallway, past a few doors with labels on them to show who's room was who's until we finally reached a door that didn't have a label on it or anything.
"This will be your room. It was originally used for storage but when we found you we decided to turn it into our guest room and you are our guest of course. Go on, see what you think." Chip urged. I nodded, opened the door and stepped inside. I was instantly greeted with the soft feel of a carpet on my feet. I than looked at my surroundings and was in shock. This place looked so much cleaner and nicer than that boring old cramped one I had back at the orphanage. There was a freshly made bed, a decent sized dresser as well as a bedside table. There was even a fully functional shower, toilet and sink in this place. Gee, now I really wonder how they get this stuff, I thought. I was even relived to see my bag still in one piece on the bed. That's when I felt a tear fall down the side of my face and my lips started to quiver.
Chip noticed this and walked over to me, placing his paw on my shoulder once again. I felt a chill run down my spine as felt his soft fuzzy fur on my skin. As I turned my head to face him, I could tell he had a look of concern in his eyes. "What's wrong Destiny? You feeling okay?" "Y-yes, it's just that I never had a room like this where I used to live. It's perfect, thank you Chip." I then flung my arms around him in a tight hug as I silently wept into his jacket. He seemed taken aback at first but eventually returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around me and slowly rubbed my back.
This was the first hug that I've received in a long time, probably since I lost my parents. It felt so good and relieving to know that I had someone like Chip and his friends who truly cared about me. Who wanted to make sure that I felt safe and protected. And man did it feel good. His fur was so soft and cuddly. It felt like I was hugging a life sized teddy bear that was made out the clouds of Heaven itself. However realizing that Chip was a living breathing chipmunk with flesh and blood and not a stuffed animal, I quickly let go of him. "S-sorry about that, I'm just so happy." "You have nothing to be sorry for Destiny. I just want to make sure you're safe and protected, we all do, cause we're the rescue rangers. It's our job to help those in need, even humans like yourself." He said as he wiped away my tears.
I smiled at his kind action. He then gestured towards the closet. "So, since you're obviously a human and need to have more on than we animals do, we worked overnight last night to make shirts, pants, socks and shoes that would be suitable to fit you." Chip then went over and showed me to the dresser. "Feel free to change into anything in the dresser. I'll be just outside the door if you need me." "Thanks Chip" I said as he left the room. He didn't close the door all the way but just enough to where he couldn't see me. I walked towards the dresser and opened the drawers.
I was amazed and shocked at the same time. In them was a bunch of nicely folded clothes just like Chip had mentioned. So with that I picked out some clothes and changed. I chose a pair of blue sport pants, a plain white t shirt, and some black socks, wouldn't wanna get any potential sprinters on my feet, right? Lookin good, I though to myself. When I was finished changing, I called for Chip to come in so he could see what I looked like. There was a look of happiness on his face. "It looks like the perfect fit Destiny. But more importantly, what do you think?"
"I think it's wonderful. Thank you, Chip." I said while I leaned over to him and gave him a little peck on the cheek. His face was now bright red and he turned away as I giggled at his reaction. "Um your very w-welcome Destiny. Just so you know, Monty is making dinner right now. Care to join us?" "It would be my pleasure Chip." He grinned as he held out his paw and gestured towards to the door. "Shall we?" he asked. I graciously accepted the offer, took his paw and we made our way towards the living room. As we approached the living room, I noticed that Dale, Gadget and Zipper were already sitting on the couch while I assumed Monty was in the kitchen. "Hey Destiny" I heard Gadget call from the couch as she and Zipper waved at me. I smiled and waved back at them. Once Chip and I made it to the couch, Dale saw me, hopped off the couch, ran over to me and grasped my hand with both of his paws, shanking it like a madman or 'madmunk' I should say. I know, that was a bad joke.
"H-hi ya Destiny. Grrrreat to see ya again. You look amazing." He could only do it for so long before he got bonked on the head again by Chip who glared at him. "HEY WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?" Dale shouted again while he rubbed his head. "Dale, your being disrespectful to our guest. I suggest you let go of her hand and go back to the couch." "Fine, have it your way mister smarty pants." Dale said clearly aggravated.
He then let go of me and walked back over to his spot but not before glancing back at me and shooting me a wink. I felt my cheeks turn red a bit before Chip spoke up. "Anyways, you can sit wherever you want on the couch Destiny." I nodded at him and walked over to the couch. I saw that Chip took a seat next to Gadget but then saw that there was and empty space between the two of them. Chip glanced over at me and patted the empty space on the couch. I smiled and sat between him and Gadget.
I looked over at Dale and he was slumped over with his hand on his chin. I started to feel bad for the guy. He looked like just wanted to help. I then leaned over to Chip. "Do you mind if I sit next to Dale" I whispered quietly in his ear. "Sure, go for it. I'm sure he'll appreciate it." He whispered back rather sarcastically. I nodded, got up from my spot and walked over to Dale. "Hey Dale, you mind if I sit next to you?" I politely asked him. His head snapped up to me and a huge grin was printed on his face.
"YESPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE!!!!!!" He was talking so incredibly fast that I couldn't even understand what he was saying, but then again, he is a literal talking chipmunk so what else would I expect. I could tell that Chip was getting mad again, but I heard Gadget try to gently restrain him which seemed to work, I hopped.
Suddenly I felt Dale grab both my hands and pull me down next to him causing me to gasp as I landed on the couch. His fuzzy paws were still holding my hands and that wide grin was still on his face. After a few seconds of him awkwardly gushing over me, the door to what I assumed was the kitchen opened up. That broke Dale's little trance as we looked up from the couch to see Monterey emerge from the kitchen with a tray of bowls in his hand. "Dinners ready mates. Let's dig in" he said.
Dale let go my hands and we made our way over to the table. Everybody to their seats while Monty set the tray down on the table. "Sit wherever you'd like love." Monterey said as I nodded. "SIT NEXT TA ME SIT NEXT TA ME!" Dale exclaimed as he pulled out a chair next to him only to be bonked on the head by Chip for the third time in a row which caused me to cover my mouth to keep my self from laughing. OMG THESE TWO ARE SO F'ING CUTE, I screamed in my mind.
"You walnut head, I'm the one who gave her the tour and showed her to her new room. She should sit next to me." Chip growled as Dale glared at him. "Well, I'm the one who found her, so she deserves to sit next to me" Dale shot back. Their faces got really close, and they bared their teeth at each other, and I would have said something, but Gadget beat me to it. "Why Chip and Dale, you guys are wasting a perfectly good dinner." She scolded. They then moved back to their seats but still faced away from each other with their arms crossed.
Gadget then noticed a chair that separated them. "Say, Destiny why don't you sit in between them? Maybe that might make them feel better." "Sure, I don't see why not." The two chipmunks immediately turned to me with smiles on their faces as I took my seat. "So, what's for dinner Monterey?" I asked trying to change the topic. "Glad ya asked. It's a favorite in this house. It's me dad Chedderhead Charlie's famous Cheese Chowder." "Sounds interesting Monterey. I don't think I've ever heard of that before." I told him. "Well, I hope ya like it." Monty said. Who's this Charlie guy? He seems like a 'interesting' fellow, I thought.
With that, we sat and ate. I picked up my spoon, took some of the chowder and put it up to my lips. It's smelled so good, but it tasted even better. I savored the warm delicious cheesy goodness before letting it sink down my throat. It was nice, warm and comforting. This was real food. I was no longer eating the straight up garbage at the orphanage. This was some good wholesome food that was made by a fantastic chef in Monterey Jack.
I was so adversed in the chowder and in my own thoughts that I didn't realize I was eating my soup a bit to fast, but I didn't care. I haven't had food like this in forever. However, I paused what I was doing and glanced up at the rangers, confusion and shock written all over their faces. "Golly Destiny, you must hungry" Gadget said. "Are you kidding, I haven't had food this good in a long time." "Well, at I'm glad ya liked it love." Monterey said with a smile. I smiled back at him but then felt that something was off.
My suspicions were confirmed when I noticed both Chip and Dale turned towards me and looking at with droopy eyes, smiles, and hands on their chins. I started feeling uncomfortable, so I tried snapping my fingers in their faces a few times to try and literally 'snap' them out of their trances. Amazingly it worked and they shook their heads frantically. "Ugh, what happened?" Chip asked, rubbing his eyes. "Don't worry about, it was probably nothing." I responded. However, I noticed that both Gadget and Monty both had looks of skepticism. I brushed it off and Gadget was quick to change the topic. "Anyways, so Destiny, where are ya from?"
As soon as she asked me that question my face fell a bit. "You alright love" Monty asked. "I'm fine. I'd just rather not talk about that right now. It's complicated." "Alright, that's ok. Just remember if you want to open up on it, we're here for you." Gadget said with a smile. "Thanks guys." Then Monty spoke up. "Well, it's gettin' pretty late. I'm gonna go clean up from dinner and hit the sack. I suggest you guys do the same." We all nodded in agreement before heading off to our rooms.
I asked Chip and Gadget to escort me to my room much to Dale's annoyance, but he ultimately sighed in defeat. Once we got to my room Chip spoke up. "Remember, if you need anything, me and Dale are right across the hall." "And me and Monterey are right next door. So don't hesitate to come and get us." Gadget said "Got it. Thanks guys. I don't know what else to say right now. You guys have just been so kind to me." They both smiled brightly at me. "It's no problem at all Destiny, we are rescue rangers after all." The three of us had a good laugh before dispersing to our rooms.
Chip and I said goodnight to Gadget but before Chip went to his bed, I put my hand on his shoulder and he turned to me and asked, "Is something wrong Destiny?" "Um no, nothing at all Chip. I just wanted to ask you something." He nodded for me to proceed. "I know this is gonna sound a little childish, but I was wondering I if you could tuck me into bed tonight." Chip didn't seem bothered by that and smiled at me. "No problem at all Destiny."
With that I opened the door to my room and climbed into my soft warm bed. Then Chip came over and tucked me in. He even gave me a goodnight kiss on my forehead just like my mom and dad used to do every night. "Goodnight Destiny." He said quietly before closing the door. I felt a small smile caress my face before darkness took me. Goodnight Chip.
