Junior Division First Round
The Eds, along with theirs and Jimmy's families, and Maxiley; were all watching the first round of the Junior Division of the Manalo Conference.
They watched a couple matches of the tournament until it was time for Nathan's battle.
"Be sure to study what Pokemon that Nathan has, Jimmy." said Eddy.
"And what moves they know." said Edd.
"Okay." said Jimmy as he watches his rival who was just coming out onto the battlefield, followed by a boy with short red hair, yellow tank top, tan cargo shorts, and yellow sandals.
"We are ready for the next match of the Manalo Conference's Junior Division." said an announcer. "Our next opponents are Nathan from Hau'oli City, and Alohi from Heahea City."
The two young trainers go to opposite ends of the battlefield as an official walks to the center of it.
"You will each use one Pokemon." said the official. "Both will battle until one Pokemon defeats the other; the trainer whose Pokemon is still standing will be the winner. Let the match begin."
"I hope we have fun." said Alohi.
"I hope you at least give me a decent warm-up for the trainer I really want to beat." said Nathan.
Each trainer takes a pokeball off their waists and toss them; out of Alohi's pokeball came a dark purple, ghostly Pokemon that had tufts on its head that looked like a witch's hat, red jewels on its chest, and a cloak coming out of its back.
"And Alohi uses a Mismagius." said the announcer.
"What's that?" asked Jimmy.
"That's a Mismagius." said Edd. "Haven't see one since our gym battle in Hearthome City." said Edd as he takes out his Rotom Pokedex just to see what it says about Mismagius on it.
"Mismagius, the Magical Pokemon, and the evolved form of Misdreavus. Its muttered curses can cause awful headaches or terrifying visions that torment others." said Edd's Rotom Pokedex. Out of Nathan's pokeball emerged a Bewear.
"And Nathan brings out a Bewear!" said the announcer.
"Why would Nathan use that against a ghost type?" asked Edd. "Normal and fighting type moves are ineffective against ghost types."
"Use Night Slash!" said Nathan. His Bewear lunges at Alohi's Mismagius as dark claws grow out of its paw and slashes at her, dealing critical super effective damage.
"It seems that Nathan prepared Bewear to battle ghost types." said Edd.
"Make note of that, Jimmy." said Eddy, making Jimmy nod as he continues watching the match.
"Mismagius, use Mystical Fire!" said Alohi. A ring of fire comes out of one of the jewels on Mismagius's chest and floats in front of her; another stream of fire goes through it and grows and it hits Bewear.
"Direct hit." said Sarah. Just then, Nathan's Bewear turns into a bipedal, black foxlike Pokemon with a red mane on its head going down its back.
"That's not Bewear!" said Eddy. Edd takes out his Rotom Pokedex and points it at Nathan's Pokemon.
"Zoroark, the Illusion Fox Pokemon, and the evolved form of Zorua. If it thinks humans are going to discover its den, Zoroark shows them visions that make them wander around in the woods." said Edd's Rotom Pokedex.
"And it seems that Nathan's Bewear is actually a Zoroark!" said the announcer.
"My Zoroark's ability is Illusion." said Nathan.
"Zoroark, finish this with Night Daze!" said Nathan. His Zoroark's eyes glowed blue as its body becomes covered in a red aura; it slams its claws onto the ground, creating an explosion of dark energy that washes over Alohi's Mismagius, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"Mismagius is unable to battle. Zoroark is the winner. The winner of this first round Junior Division's match is Nathan." said the official.
"And Nathan will go on to the quarterfinals of the Juniors' Division!" said the announcer.
"Quite unexpected." said Edd. Nathan and Alohi walk to the center of the arena.
"Good match." said Alohi as he hands Nathan some pokedollars.
"How did you make it this far?" asked Nathan with a grin.
"Be careful with Zoroark's Illusion ability, Jimmy." said Maxiley.
"You got it." said Jimmy. As Nathan walks off the field, he makes eye contact with Jimmy and glares at him, getting a glare sent back.
After another battle, it was Nancy's turn and she stood on one end of the battlefield while a boy with blonde hair, wearing a white polo shirt with a gray pokeball design, gray shorts and sandals, and sunglasses over his eyes stood on the other end.
"Our next trainers competing against each other are Nancy from Hau'oli City and Wehilani from Malie City." said the announcer.
"You will each use one Pokemon." said the official. "Both will battle until one Pokemon defeats the other; the trainer whose Pokemon is still standing will be the winner. Let the match begin."
Nancy and Wehilani each pull out a pokball and get ready to start their battle.
"Mienshao, go!" said Nancy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, white Pokemon that was purple on the lower part of its torso, had a long, skinny, purple-tipped tail, and long, yellow-tipped whiskers on the end of its snout. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at Nancy's Pokemon.
"Mienshao, the Martial Arts Pokemon and the evolved form of Mienfoo. When Mienshao lets out a bizarre wail, you're in danger. A flurry of kicks and chops too fast to see is about to be unleashed!" said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Nancy brings out a Mienshao." said the announcer.
"Let's go, Castform!" said Wehilani as he throws a pokeball and releases a Pokemon that resembled a gray cloud with a white marking around its eyes. Edd points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Castform, the Weather Pokemon. Its form changes depending on the weather. The rougher conditions get, the rougher Castform's disposition!" said the Rotom Pokedex.
"And Wehilani brings out a Castform." said the announcer.
"Castform, use Sunny Day!" said Wehilani before lowering his sunglasses over his eyes. Castform cries at the sky and the sun becomes brighter. Castform begins to glow; when it stopped glowing, its head now resembled a sun while the rest of its body was white. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the transformed Castform.
"Castform Sunny Form, the Weather Pokemon. Castform changes to this form when it basks in bright sunlight. When you touch its glowing skin, it feels all dried out!" said the Rotom Pokedex.
"It's unbelievable that creatures are capable of manipulating the sun." said Edd's father.
"Mienshao, use Force Palm!" said Nancy. Mienshao leaps at Castform and thrusts its hand against it, dealing damage.
"Castform, Weather Ball!" said Wehilani. Castform opens its mouth and fires a ball of orange energy with streaks of fire around it and it hits Mienshao, damaging it.
"Mienshao, use Jump Kick!" said Nancy. Mienshao jumps towards Castform and kicks it, knocking it back.
"Castform, use Fire Blast!" said Wehilani. Castform fires a fiery kanji out of its mouth at Mienshao.
"Mienshao, use Detect!" said Nancy. Mienshoa jumps over the fiery kanji, dodging it. "Now use High Jump Kick!" Mienshao lands on the ground and jumps back up high in the air; it comes down towards Castform and strikes it with its knee, knocking it to the ground. Castform returns to its regular form with swirly eyes.
"Castform is unable to battle. Mienshao wins the match. The winner of the first round of the Junior's Division is Nancy." said the official.
"Nancy's Mienshao has beaten Wehilani's Castform; Nancy will now advance to the quarterfinals of the Junior's Division!" said the announcer.
"Great job, Mienshao!" said Nancy, making Mienshao nod in response. Wehilani returns Castform to its pokeball.
"It's okay, Castform; we'll train harder for next year." said Wehilani. He walks to Nancy and gives her pokedollars. As Nancy walks towards a stadium tunnel, she looks up at Sarah and frowns at her, who glares at her in response.
"You're going to be up soon, Jimmy; you better get ready." said Jimmy's mother.
"Okay, Mommy." replied Jimmy before running off.
After another match, it was soon Jimmy's turn to battle; he comes out of a stadium tunnel, while a girl with long blonde hair, wearing a blue dress with yellow flower designs on it walks out another stadium tunnel.
"Our next match will be Alamea from Tapu Village against Jimmy from Peach Creek, USA." said the announcer. "And I gotten word that young Jimmy has been travelling with the famous Ed trio from the Lily of the Valley Conference."
The two trainers go to opposite ends of the field as an official walks to the center of it.
"You will each use one Pokemon." said the official. "Both will battle until one Pokemon defeats the other; the trainer whose Pokemon is still standing will be the winner. Let the match begin."
The official steps off to one side of the field as Jimmy and Alamea each take a pokeball off their waists.
"Let's go, Bruxish!" said Alamea as she tosses her pokeball, releasing a Bruxish.
"Alamea brings out a Bruxish!" said the announcer. "Let's see what Jimmy goes with!"
"That Pokemon's coloring puts the 'ish' in its name." said Sarah.
"Butterfree, I choose you!" said Jimmy as he tosses his pokeball, letting out his Butterfree.
"And Jimmy brings out a Butterfree!" said the announcer.
"Bruxish, use Aqua Jet!" said Alamea. Her Bruxish propels itself at Butterfree as its body is coated in water and slams into him.
"Butterfree, use Silver Wind!" said Jimmy. His Butterfree flaps his wings, releasing a blast of wind that had silver powder mixed into it; the attack hits Bruxish, dealing super effective damage; a surge of power erupts from Butterfree.
"It seems that Butterfree got his stats increased from Silver Wind." said Edd.
"Sweet." said Eddy.
"Butterfree, use Bug Buzz!" said Jimmy. His Butterfree releases a red soundwave from his antennae that hits Bruxish, dealing super effective damage; its body sags a bit.
"What's wrong with that Pokemon?" asked Eddy's father.
"Bug Buzz also weakens the special defense of the Pokemon that it hits." explained Edd.
"Bruxish, use Psychic Fangs!" said Alamea. Her Bruxish lunges at Butterfree while its sharp teeth glowed with psychic energy and bites down on him.
"Butterfree, use Air Slash!" said Jimmy. His Butterfree flaps his wings, releasing a blade of wind that hits Bruxish, and thanks to its weakened defense, the attack was able to knock it out.
"Bruxish is unable to battle. Butterfree is the winner. The winner of this match is Jimmy." said the official.
"And Jimmy has defeated Alamea to earn a spot in the quarterfinals!" said the announcer.
"You did it, Butterfree!" said Jimmy as his Pokemon flies over and wraps his wings around his trainer in a hug. Alamea returns her Bruxish to its pokeball and walks over to her opponent.
"That was a fun battle." said Alamea as she holds out a hand.
"Thank you." said Jimmy as he grabs Alamea's hand and shakes it; Alamea also gives Jimmy a quick peck on the cheek, making him blush, and Hapu frown.
After a few more matches, it was time for the last match of the Junior Divisions' first round.
"Sarah's up now, honey." Ed and Sarah's mother says to her husband.
"You cheer for your little sister, son." Ed and Sarah's father says to Ed.
"I will, Dad." replied Ed. Soon, Sarah was standing on one end of the battlefield while a boy with wavy black hair, wearing a beige t-shirt, brown cargo shorts and sandals stood on the other.
"The final match of the Junior's Division First Round will be Sarah from Peach Creek, USA, and Kona from Iki Town." said the announcer. "I have gotten word that Sarah is the sister of Ed with one D of the Ed trio." An official steps to the center of the battlefield.
"You will each use one Pokemon." said the official. "Both will battle until one Pokemon defeats the other; the trainer whose Pokemon is still standing will be the winner. Let the match begin." The official walks off the battlefield while Sarah and Kona each pull out a pokeball.
"Dunsparce, go!" said Kona, throwing a pokeball and releasing a yellow, snakelike Pokemon with a blue underside, small wings on its back, and a drill-like tail. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Dunsparce, the Land Snake Pokemon. When it sees a person, it digs a hole with its tail to make its escape. If you happen to find one, consider yourself lucky." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Kona brings out a Dunsparce!" said the announcer.
"Go, Jolteon!" said Sarah, throwing Jolteon's pokeball and releases her.
"And Sarah brings out a Jolteon!" said the announcer.
"Go, Sarah!" cheered Ed.
"Jolteon, use Thunder Fang!" said Sarah. Jolteon pounces at Dunsparce while electricity surrounded her fangs and she bites Dunsparce, damaging it.
"Dunsparce, use Double-Edge!" said Kona. Dunsparce lunges at Jolteon while its body glows gold and it rams Jolteon, knocking her back; Dunsparce receives recoil damage from Double-Edge.
"Jolteon, use Thunder Shock!" said Sarah. Jolteon releases a small burst of electricty from her body and it hits Dunsparce, damaging it.
"Dunsparce, use Drill Run!" said Kona. Dunsparce turned around and aims its tail at Jolteon. It spins its body and flies at Jolteon; it jabs Jolteon with its tail, dealing super effective damage.
"Jolteon, use Discharge!" said Sarah. Jolteon releases multiple bolts of electricty from her body and it hits Dunsparce, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"Dunsparce is unable to battle. Jolteon wins the match. The winner of this match is Sarah." said the official.
"Sarah's Jolteon has defeated Kona's Dunsparce, earning Sarah a place in the quarterfinals of the Junior's Division!" said the official.
"You did it, Jolteon!" said Sarah; Jolteon turns towards Sarah and nods in response.
"Way to go, Sarah!" cheered Ed.
"You were great!" shouts Maxiley.
"That's our girl!" said Ed and Sarah's mother. Kona returns Dunsparce to its pokeball and walks to Sarah; he gives her pokedollars.
"You're definitely Ed's sister." said Kona.
"You better believe it." said Sarah.
"The first round of the Junior's Division has come to an end; let's see who's facing who in the quarterfinals!" said the announcer. Images of the quarterfinalists appeared on the giant monitor were stacked on top of each other; they seperated, revealing Sarah, Jimmy, and their rivals going against different trainers.
Moments later, the Eds, Sarah, Jimmy, their families, and Maxiley were walking out of the stadium.
"You kids did great out there." Ed and Sarah's father says to Sarah and Jimmy.
"Thanks, Daddy." replied Sarah. As they walked back to the hotel, Eddy's brother sees an attractive woman wearing a dark red sarong over a red, one-piece swimsuit walking by. Grinning, Eddy's brother struts towards the woman; seconds later, he returns to the others, holding his lower jaw in pain.
"Jerk!" yelled the woman, rubbing her fist.
"When will he ever learn?" askd Eddy's father with exasperation.
Sarah, Jimmy, Nancy, and Nathan have all advanced to the quarterfinals of the Junior's Division. Will they advance to the next round. Wait and find out.
