Chapter 4: Rebuilding and Retraining
Injustice World; One Year later
One year has passed since Brainaic's defeat and Superman's second imprisonment. Black Adam and Wonder Woman are currently imprisoned on Oa to stand trial. To be fair, Batman has warned them. Hal Jordan has taken them to Oa for safekeeping knowing how powerful they are. And Batman agrees, not wanting to chance them by coming up with a plan with Superman.
Since then, new superheroes have officially joined the Justice League. While the Justice League is formed with Batman as the leader, with Green Arrow and Red Arrow, the latter who lost his version of Green Arrow and is currently being trained. Black Canary, Hal Jordan, Barry Allen, Harleen Quinn, Catwoman and newcomers Supergirl and one of Bruce's old friends named Mister Terrific.
The teams have learned to trust each other, including Supergirl. However, it cannot be said the same for the rest of the world. While many people are pleased to see the Justice League back coming back together slowly, there are hundreds of thousands that believe that heroes should no longer be needed. The reason for their raise of concerns were obviously because the war between Batman and Superman caused the League to split up and choose sides. And what is worse is that people slowly began to realize that Batman has a Kryptonian on their side being Supergirl.
People fear that she may rebel and turn against everyone like Superman did since they have heard rumors that she sided with Wonder Woman and Black Adam. Fortunately for her, they are currently unaware that she and Superman are related. Kara is willing to do anything to win everyone's trust with everyone helping her. But nothing is ever easy.
But that's not all. Those who have supported Superman's cause are still in hiding while the attack on Brainiac was going on. Those include Damian Wayne and Cyborg. While everyone was out fighting Brainiac, they went into hiding just in case Batman and Superman would turn against each other once more. Where they are now is currently unknown. But Batman is hoping to find and capture them alive despite their differences.
Today, the new Justice League are currently training with each other while getting to know each other better, particularly Kara. She is excited to do so, as it feels like it'll help her focus. And building trust within everyone. Today should be a good day for our heroes.
Kara walks into the batcave after getting off work. She normally wears glasses to hide her identity and also loves to wear sweaters and switches between khakis, skirts and shorts. Despite how she was introduced to Earth, she has had a love for fashion and food since she arrived. Her love for the planet grew ever since before joining Bruce and his team. She enters, and runs into Harleen and Dinah.
"Kara girl!" Harleen hugs her tight. "You're here early as a bird! That's something new. How's the day been? Boring as usual?"
"Hey there, Harleen." Kara hugs her back. "Same as ever. Work is fine, but had to deal with my boss Cat's shenanigans as per usual. Everytime she finds a new hero, she names them and claims that name to be hers." Kara rolls her eyes as she eats her strawberry donut.
"This is why I'm glad I found my own job. Working and fixing bikes." Dinah smirked as she handed Kara a coffee. This only puts a bigger smile on Supergirl's face as she took a sip. "Besides, I think Supergirl is a badass name. I mean don't listen to what she has to tell ya, girl."
"True. She can be a jerk sometimes, but she does mean well. I'm just lucky she didn't put me in a water closet as an office." Kara joked, making Harleen laugh.
"Oh, you never cease to be funny, blondie. How is it that you always make us here happy?" Harleen asked. Kara couldn't do anything but shrug her shoulders.
"I just can't help myself. So how's that wound of yours? Feeling better?" Kara asked. She watched in horror as Wonder Woman stabbed Harleen in the stomach with her sword when Harleen tried to stop Diana from killing Cheetah, remembering Batman's orders.
"Oh, never better. Never know what you're gonna get till it's playtime. This time, they're gonna have to do better than that in order to squish me like a bug." Harleen gestured to where her wound was. From what it looks like, it was stitched after some surgery and a kryptonian pill.
"Oh yeah. They better watch themselves. They touch you two or Oliver, somebody's losing some fingers." Dinah playfully threatened. Kara snickered at that.
"Speaking of which, you owe me a rematch after that sucker kick to the ribs last week. This time, I'm really gonna hurt you." Kara challenged.
"Oh, you're on. Don't expect me to pull any punches on you either. You coming, Harleen?" Dinah asked her.
"Yay! Fun time! Better get the arrow boys and some popcorn!" Harleen jumped in excitement as they started walking towards the lower floor. Kara, Dinah and Harleen all look at each other with friendly smiles on their faces. Harleen wraps her arms around the two girls as they head down for training.
Down in one floor, the girls meet with Oliver Queen and his apprentice Kid Arrow also known as Connor Queen. He is Black Canary's son and by the time he was born, his real father, Earth-22's father was already dead at the hands of Superman. Dinah and her newborn son were taken to an alternate world by Doctor Fate to where Oliver Queen lost his wife. They lived together as a happy family until Superman's defeat, and it was safe for them to return to their dimension.
Right now, he's currently 14 years old and has developed super powers. He has his mother's sonic screams as well as his late father's archery skills. They came around sometime after they returned to their home. Since then, Oliver has took up training him, so did Dinah, despite her reluctance out of fear for her son's safety. She thinks that he should start with the Teen Titans. Connor has looked up to his parents despite knowing that his real Oliver is dead. And would do anything to make them all proud. But for now, they watch their friends train each other.
Green Arrow and his son sit next to Harleen, who happens to have a wooden bowl of popcorn in her hands, ready for excitement.
"This is gonna be great. Even better than last time!" Harleen smiled.
"Oh, it will be alright. It'll be better once my love kicks the newbie's ass again. Are you willing to up the ante again, Quinn?" Oliver asked.
"Twenty bucks says Kara girl will kick ass and come out on top!" Harleen said.
"Make it thirty-five and you got yourself a deal." Connor stood up. "No way my mom is gonna lose. She won without one scratch on her and didn't need her powers. Serves the new girl right for trying to do so."
"This time it'll be different, short stuff. Hehehe." Harleen giggled with confidence as Dinah and Kara walked in. As soon they do, the entire room lights up and there are green lights around each corner of the room they are in.
"I'm still not sure if a room like this is a good idea." Kara shivered upon looking around. Because the lights are actually kryptonite emitters. "I mean, Bruce has seen what I can do. I'm not as strong as Kal-El, but still. I can take hits from anyone and not have a bruise. I can beat him for real and give it everything I got."
"I like your confidence, friend. I really do. But fighting isn't always about throwing punches and think later. You're stronger than Adam and Diana when they trained you. But if you face someone like Kal, then you need to think. Kal-El has fought much longer than you have and you must be prepared to face anyone, whether you expect it or not. The assholes out there can have the element of surprise." Dinah advised. Connor looks around and wonders what is with the lights.
"So what's with the lights?" Connor asked.
"Kryptonite emitters. Increased to 18%. Not enough to permanently harm Kara, just to make her weak enough to make it a fair fight." Oliver explained to his stepson.
"Yup. Unfair fights are no fun unless you're winning. Fights are fun to do when you're winning." Harleen said while chewing on popcorn.
"Now, come at me, Kara. Let's see if you've improved." Dinah gets into position.
"Oh, you're so on. Loser makes pancakes this saturday." Kara replied as the two start their training.
"Yay! Pancakes!" Harleen yelled.
Kara goes in for a punch, which Dinah easily dodges and spins her around and was about to push her forward, but Supergirl grabs both of Dinah's wrists and throws her to the ground, back first. Dinah spins in place to trip Kara, but she jumps over it, allowing Dinah to push herself off the ground and kick Supergirl in the chest, stumbling her. Kara comes in with a swing, but Dinah ducks and grabs her arm before she could pull a backhand strike and kicks Kara in the forehead and trips her and she impacts the ground.
Kara recovers and Dinah has her back turned. She yells as she goes for a straight kick. Dinah avoids it, but could not react in time for a kick to the stomach and an elbow to the chest. Dinah is surprised by how Kara is fighting better than last time. Dinah goes for a dive kick, but Kara steps aside and punches her in the back of the head followed by a backhand strike. Dinah does a backflip kick to the chin, causing Kara to stumble once again. They exchange going through offense and defense until Dinah punches Supergirl in the stomach. Kara blocks a punch and kicks Black Canary in the stomach again. Supergirl goes for another kick, But Dinah grabs her leg, punches her across the face, gets on her shoulders and using her legs, Black Canary throws Kara down to the ground chest first. Kara growls out of frustration and goes for a kick to the chin, sending Dinah back.
Kara steps over her and delivers a fist… which stops inches away from Dinah's face. Dinah sees this as an opportunity to kick Kara in the chest, launching backwards. Dinah holds her friend down to the ground by her arms. Kara grits her teeth and manages to push Dinah off and onto the ground again.
"Damn. Looks like you win." Dinah surrenders.
"Yeah. That's right. Told you I could beat you this time. And you thought you doubted me this entire time." Kara said walking up to her.
"Who didn't say anything about doubt?" Dinah smiles before she launches a foot in Kara's face. Kara smirks and grabs hold of her ankle, stopping it from making contact with her.
"Not me." Kara smirked.
"You saw through me. Good." Dinah approved. Kara offers her hand and helps Black Canary up. "You knew I was gonna go for the sucker kick again. Deception can lead to being beaten. Nice job, Supergirl." Dinah holds out her fist and Kara happily fistbumps it.
Harleen claps her hands, happy that Kara won her training battle against Black Canary. But Oliver, not so much. Not that he hates Kara. He enjoys her company, but he always cheers for his dear wife more than anything. He sighs as he slips out some cash and gives it to Harleen.
"Thank you, Ollie. It was a pleasure doing business with ya." Harleen winks at him.
"Yeah, yeah. Kara got lucky. Next time, it'll be her turn to be on the floor. I got some tricks up my sleeve." Oliver smirked with cocky confidence.
"You know, I don't even need my super hearing to listen to you, Oliver." Kara walked over. "You're gonna regret saying that, because you're next. Or are you scared to hurt a girl? No wonder Dinah beats you every single time."
"Ooh! Burn!" Harleen quipped, making Connor laugh.
"I mean, he's not wrong." Connor smiled. "He didn't even try to throw a swing at mom. He just kept dodging and doging until she used her super scream and hurled him towards a river."
The girls all laugh at Oliver's expense.
"Hey, I was helping her up her speed and smarts. See how she can think and keep up with me." Oliver defends his ego.
"Keep telling yourself that, sweetheart. I am giving you permission to do your worst. And whatever you do, don't run away from her as she beats you." Dinah plants a kiss on his cheek as she goes to sit down with Connor and Harleen.
"Are you okay, mom?" Connor asked out of concern.
"Better as ever, Connor. You'll be going up against someone like her very soon. And whatever you do, don't hold back like your dad does." Dinah joked.
"I can hear you." Oliver said in annoyance. Black Canary smiled and speaks while using her sonic powers.
"Can you hear me any louder?" Dinah spoke with her screams, sending Oliver onto the place mat where Kara was standing. Kara snickered at the two's constant bickering and teasing.
"Don't hold back on me, Queen. Or I'll never let you live it down." Kara joked.
"Alright, Danvers. Let's dance." Green Arrow said before they begin to fight.
Elsewhere in the Batcave, Bruce Wayne is working with Catwoman and an old friend named Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific. He is one of the smartest people on earth and is known for his T-spheres that can perform multiple functions such as avoid detection via electronics, record footage, communication, hack into other devices and shoot lasers. In fact, he was responsible for helping Batman building the interdimensional gateway to help bring their alternate counterparts to their dimension years ago.
Since Brainiac's defeat, Batman has restored the majority of the cities by reverse engineering his technology. He has been stripped of all of his technology and armor so he won't be able to escape as he's buried deep beneath the Batcave in a prison cell that's highly indestructible. However, they are still having a hard time figuring out how to restore Krypton. The home of Supergirl and her cousin Superman, as they all thought it was destroyed. Bruce is hoping to restore Krypton one day in hopes that Kara will be happy and maybe see her family again.
"Restoring one city is one thing, Bruce. But restoring another planet. That's a whole other level." Michael said. "But I can see why you are going to great lengths to restore it. But it's going to take a long time. How long do you think you can keep Kara waiting?"
"Time is on our side. Kara has learned patience since her time with us. She has faith in the human race. Found new faith in us. If we were able to restore the cities here, I'm sure we can restore Krypton. Besides, she didn't deserve this. The pain she went through on Krypton, her losing her mother. And the lies she was fed." Bruce replied. Selina walks up and places a gentle hand on Bruce's shoulder.
"Well, you should be happy that Kara has new friends like us. But I'm afraid of how people will react to Supergirl being with us in this group chat. They won't be happy." Selina states.
"I'm certain. Kara's brave and kind and gentle. We'll help change their faith in her. She was meant to help and protect." Batman defends Kara. Mister Terrific uses his T-Spheres and sends an encrypted message to the big computer called Brother Eye.
"I've sent a wireless patch to Brother Eye. That way, it won't get hacked again by any enemies like Brainiac again. Anyone who attempts to do it… well, let's just say they'll wake up with a headache in the morning." Michael said.
"And tinman and the cry baby won't be getting in anytime soon. This leaves us with more time to find the two and put them in a room together." Catwoman said, referring to Damian and Cyborg.
"They know the routes to the batcave. But I have backup security implemented with my T-spheres. Not even Cyborg will have an easy time hacking in. He'll short-circuit due to a failsafe. It won't kill him though, but it ain't gonna tickle either." Mister Terrific said.
"Not to mention Damian. He knows the secrets. He may be arrogant and short-sighted, but he is a trained assassin. They'll show their faces at some point. I don't know what they're planning though." Bruce sighed. As much as he hated to arrest his own son despite Damian refusing to acknowledge him as family, he still cares about him deep down.
"Bruce. I know you still think he's your son, but he's far gone. Some people aren't capable of redeeming themselves like Harleen and me. I hate being brutally honest since I'm still somewhat of a cat thief, which I'm still proud of, but still." Catwoman said.
"I know. He's my son. I just wished I did a better job raising him than the league of assassins did. I still miss him and Dick up to this day. But given how they've changed, sometimes we have choices we don't like to make." Batman turns to Catwoman and holds her hand.
"We all have choices, Bruce. And so far, you have made good ones. We can only hope that we don't have to make choices we will regret." Catwoman worries.
"You're right. If only we could convince them. But whatever they have planned, we'll be prepared. Speaking of which." Bruce turns to Brother Eye. "Brother Eye. Status updates from Barry and Hal."
"Barry has traced around the mountains for possible locations for the criminals formerly associated with Gorilla Grodd and Brainiac and has picked up signals from four different locations. Hal Jordan has picked up reports that Deadshot and Captain Cold are reforming the Legion. And the Teen Titans are tracking a man named Red Hood." Brother Eye reported.
"Any other associates?" Batman asked.
"Unknown at the time. But Starfire has Blue Beetle gathering as much data as possible to find out who else is part of the Legion and their current location or their current plan. Would you like for me to contact the Teen Titans?" Brother Eye asked.
"Go ahead." Batman nods in approval. Brother Eye sends a message to the Titans Tower as Batman turns to Selina and Michael. "The Legion. They're taking things more seriously now that Grodd and Brainiac are gone."
"So what did we miss?" Oliver asked, coming in with Connor, Harleen, Kara and Dinah.
"New villainy group forming because your enemies like to be sore losers." Michael said.
"Awe. They like to play some more. Who are we fighting besides the lame-os from the gorilla club?" Harleen asked.
"So far, Deadshot, Red Hood and Captain Cold. And some new boys and girls are ready to come and play good guys vs bad guys." Selina replied.
"No problem. Where's the fight?" Kara smirked.
"We don't know as of yet. But good thing you're here, Kara. You may be best for this possible mission." Batman walks up to her.
"What do you need, Bruce?" Supergirl asked.
"I've picked up four traces of communication signals around the country. But one of them is coming from Africa. We may have a hunch of who may be there. You think you can head over there and trace it?" Batman asked.
"I thought you'd never ask. They'll regret the fact that I have super hearing. I'm dying for some well deserved payback." Kara said with excitement. "I'll head over to Africa right away."
Kara walks away with a smile on her face. Her first actual solo mission while with Batman's Justice League. She never got to have her own solo mission while training with Diana and Adam. And she's looking forward to it a lot as the other members of the Justice League are making a plan.
Off the coastlines in New York City, a small island lays in the middle of the ocean. And strangely, there is a giant tower that literally looks like a T. The Titans Tower is where the Teen Titans reside after being rebuilt since the destruction of Metropolis.
The titans were a subgroup of the Justice League that help defend the city. But a few of the titans died when the city was nuked by Joker. And during Superman's reign, the rest that rebelled against him were banished into the Phantom Zone. But after Superman's first defeat, the Teen Titans were released from prison and decided to help rebuild all the damage that has been done. And after that, Batman has once more recruited Starfire as an official leader of the Teen Titans, with Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Superboy, Wonder Girl and Terra being recruited.
Things were not easy for the titans. It was hard for them to move on from what happened since that tragic day. Since they lost members such as Kid Flash, Nightwing and Beast Boy. They were grieved greatly, especially by Starfire and Terra as they loved Dick and Garfield. Memoriams were built in their honor. And not only that, Damian betrayed his former allies for Superman alongside Cyborg and Raven. Raven is currently locked up in the Phantom Zone after Batman believed that out of all the threats besides Superman, Raven was the biggest one. He took this advice from a powerful magic user named John Constantine.
But as of today, everyone has mostly moved on with their lives. Starfire is pleased to lead the new Teen Titans. Firestorm doesn't mind being part of a team, though he is a little bummed out that he's not part of the Justice League. Blue Beetle on the other hand is happy about it. Bruce suggested this seeing that they still have much to learn. And Professor Martin Stein agrees that they should be mentored and Starfire is the one because of her gentle, kind personality that is filled with wisdom.
Three more official members of the Teen Titans were Superboy, Terra and Wonder Girl. Wonder Girl, whose real name is Cassandra Sandsmark, is the niece of Wonder Woman and the daughter of Zeus. Growing up without a father, she constantly traveled with her mother around the world as an archaeologist. Along the way over the past five years, she learned more about archaeology and foreign language. But because of this, she hardly had time for school or make friends, which isolates her. She met a man named an art thief named Diesel, whom she was eventually smitten with. They always snuck out together to steal treasured art and along the way, she discovered the Silent Armor.A red suit that is invisible to the naked eye.
An accident happened in Cambodia, where the three were attacked by an alien parasite that looks like liquid metal. Cassandra discovered that the silent armor also gave her superpowers such as super strength, flight, durability and it came with war bracelets and a lasso of lightning. Diesel grew angry at her, accused her of stealing his treasure to greatness and then she lost control of her own powers as they require strong will power. The temple that her mother was searching for was destroyed. Unfortunately, Diesel was not so lucky as he was crushed under the debris. Cassandra's mother grew angry with her daughter, accusing her of destroying all of her research and wanted nothing to do with her. Cassandra left and became a thief. Until then, she met her own aunt Wonder Woman and took her under her wing and Batman suggested that she should join the Teen Titans despite her being sixteen at the time.
Superboy, also known as Kon-El or Conner Kent, is a genetically cloned metahuman who was created by Project Cadmus in hopes of creating armies of cloned kryptonians. And after his creation and learning enough education, Kon-El was set to lead them. But eventually, the Teen Titans managed to convince Superboy that Project Cadmus was lying to him about making the world a better place, which in reality, they wanted to destroy the Justice League and anyone who support them and eliminate any off worlders, regardless whether they were good or bad.
Superboy has since joined the Teen Titans and it took time for everyone to trust him, with Superman being the first to quickly do so. Starting out, Kon-El had trouble controlling his emotions, he has had training from everyone to do so, and learning more about Earth and learning to socialize with people and has grown fond of Cassandra. The two grew close to each other and now he wishes to help his half-cousin Kara redeem the symbol of hope. To regain everyone's trust in heroes. He idolized Kal-El until his downfall and refused to forgive him for killing Joker.
And the last newcomer to the team was Terra. Terra was on her own after something horrible happened. She was illegally experimented on and was given powers to manipulate the earth. She lost control of them and accidentally killed civilians. Her father, the king of Markovia, banished her to the United States after deeming her a freak and disowned her as his daughter. She fled, fearful of anyone around her, afraid of losing control of her powers due to her anger. After nearly attacked by muggers and losing control of her powers, the Justice League came to her rescue and decided to send her to train under Starfire's leadership. Slowly but surely, she has gained control over her powers. Move boulders with her mind, ride on one like it was a hoverboard and can also stop earthquakes from happening. According to Batman, her powers are unlimited to the point where she could start a volcano eruption. But she chooses not to do that and does not like hurting people.
Terra is a very shy but kind individual who has grown fond of her team and friends. Young but naive and quiet but friendly. Terra initially had doubts about herself, believing that no one will accept her for who she is, but that did not stop the titans from trusting her. She is pleased to have people such as Starfire, Supergirl and even Beast Boy as her closest friends. Starfire was like an older sister to Terra and Cassandra and mentor. She grew close to Beast Boy and the two eventually fell in love. Sadly, that did not last long as he died in the tragic explosion caused by the Joker. Terra left the Titans, feeling responsible for being unable to save him. But after Superman's defeat, she has since returned and still remains good friends. Terra still misses Garfield up to this day and just like most others, does not trust Superman for locking everyone up in the Phantom Zone.
Today, the Teen Titans are planning a training exercise routine as suggested by Batman. It was better to have everyone prepared for any sort of danger yet to come. Starfire agrees, given that some of them are new to the team. This is a brand new day for the team as they are outside the tower awaiting instructions from their leader.
"Fellow Teen Titans. Fellow friends. Today is a new day for us. Many of us were trapped during Superman's reign. But we survived. Survival was one of the many keys bestowed to me by the lords of Tameran. And I shared this lesson with the Justice League. We are in a new beginning now. And there are some new friendly faces among us." Starfire said while referring to Blue Beetle and Firestorm. "To be ready for anything, you must be prepared for everything. Knowledge and experience are two separate things. You cannot win without the other."
While the leader of the titans is speaking, Blue Beetle and Firestorm have a private conversation with each other.
"Can't wait to learn from an alien. This will be a good experience for us all." Blue Beetle smiles with excitement. Professor Stain agrees. Jason on the other hand is bummed that he isn't part of the Justice League.
"Yeah. Feels more like we're sitting at the kids table rather than with the big league. We're both 16 for god's sake. We should be filling up that group, not this one. It's like we're still on training wheels." Jason complains.
"James. Batman sent you two here for a reason and asked me to help improvise. I may not be a teenager like you, but I'm helping what's best for all three of us." Professor Stain stated.
"And you would happen to be right, Mr. Stain." Starfire approached, having overheard their conversation. "Do not think of this as mistrust, James. Batman has all of us in his circle of trust. And hopefully if we ever find any new recruits, by the time you and Jaime reach the age of 18, you may be part of the big league. In fact, let me see what one of you is made of."
"I'll take you on." Blue Beetle raised his hand. Starfire smiles and accepts the offer.
"Watch and learn, everyone." Starfire brings out a staff while Blue Beetle's suit forms two blades. As the two get ready, Wonder Girl and the others approach James.
"So? His armor can transform into anything?" Wonder Girl asked.
"To be more precise, lasers, sonic cannons, blades, and can even summon wings to fly. The scarab is his defense mechanism. He can summon any of these with a mere thought." Mr. Stain explains.
"Fused to his spine. Whenever it reverts back to his normal form, it causes intense pain. And the scarab apparently is sensitive and doesn't like to harm nature." James said. "But he was strong enough to fight a kryptonian." James said.
"Twenty dollars says that he doesn't even try to harm Starfire. In fact, if he doesn't then you and him get to do any chores of our picking." Cassandra jokingly smirked at James.
"Oh, you're so on, Cassandra. If he lands one hit, then you get to make food for us based on our liking." James replied.
"Deal." Cassandra fistbumps him. Superboy smiles and rolls his eyes while Terra looks on silently as Blue Beetle and Starfire begin to spar.
Blue Beetle opens up a pair of wings and charges at Starfire swing his blade at her. But she also flies and blocks all of his swings with no effort before kicking him back. Blue Beetle tries to charge a Sonic cannon punch, but Starfire, now running on her feet, jumps and flips over him and lands behind him. She punches him the back of the head, trips him with her staff, scooping him off his feet, allowing her to send a strong kick to the stomach. Blue Beetle slides onto his back. But before he could get back up, Starfire places her foot on his ankle so he can't get back up and points the staff at his face. Terra couldn't help but quietly giggle at how fast the fight was.
"Do you yield?" Starfire asked.
"I tap out. I tap out." Blue Beetle gives up. Starfire offers her hand and pulls him back up. Wonder Girl chuckles as James slips her money.
"Thank you very much. That was entertaining. Looks like you'll be busy today, chore boy." Cassandra teases him.
"Ha ha. Hilarious. Wait till I meet you on the field." James said.
"Now that, I'm looking forward to seeing. Looking forward to see the new guy get his butt kicked by Cassandra." Superboy joked.
"Laugh it up, Connor. After all, I know just how to beat you. Firestorm can generate Kryptonite radiation. You'll be on your knees before you could lift your feet off the ground." James mocked him.
"Afraid of a good fight?" Superboy replied.
"Hell no. Never." James denies.
"Then get in there and fight Cassandra. Don't hold back on her now." Superboy smirked. James scoffs and he and the professor fuse together to form Firestorm.
"And me, my hero?" Cassandra flirts with Connor.
"Do your worst, wonderful." Superboy winked. Cassandra cracks her knuckles as she steps into the field to face Firestorm.
"Don't singe my hair, okay?" Wonder Girl joked.
"Vanity can be a weakness for some people." Firestorm replied before they start to fight.
Firestorm charges up a fireball to launch at Cassandra, but she uses her invincible armor and embraces it. The fire makes contact, but Wonder Girl doesn't flinch one single bit. Not even a scratch on her. Firestorm's eyes widened in surprise but immediately shakes it off. He flies back whilst facing her, and Cassandra dashes forward, flies and grabs Firestorm and uses her own lasso sparking with electricity and shocks him before throwing him down to the ground. Superboy snickered at how quickly he went down at his friend's hands.
Cassandra lands on his chest and puts a foot on his right shoulder to keep him from getting up. "It's a virtue from where I come from. Now do you give up?"
"Fine. Fine." Firestorm taps the grass to tap out. "You got lucky this round. But there's always a round two. I'm only getting warmed up here." Firestorm said as she helped him up. "This time I won't go any easier on you."
"You're on. Loser gets to cook dinner for a week." Cassandra smirked. Firestorm smiles and nods. They both fist bump each other as they get ready for another round.
While they do that, Superboy and Terra are the only ones to face each other.
"You ready to go, Terra?" Superboy asked.
"Don't lose focus. Otherwise you might be in for a surprise." Terra said before her hands glow. Part of the ground shakes below Superboy's feet and swings her hand forward and a huge chunk of the ground goes flying in the air like a boulder fired from a catapult. Superboy was scooped off his feet and he lands on his back. Terra hovers in the air with the help of a big boulder she summoned from the ground beneath her feet and hides her laughter.
"Oh very funny, Terra. Now you're gonna get yours." Superboy said as he flies in the air and stares at her in the eyes.
Superboy tries to get in close, but Terra throws more rocks and boulders at him, forcing him to fly back and blast each of them with his heat vision. Terra then sees mud on the ground and manipulates it with her powers and throws as much at Superboy as possible. Superboy however uses his ice breath and freezes all the mud until it is frozen solid like an ice statue. He flies over the frozen mud and charges at his friend. Terra grunts and growls as her hands glow and summons stone pillars from the ground and they all surround Superboy with a marble disc up on top, as if trapping him in a cage.
Superboy smirks and flies up while carrying the marble disc from above his head and throws it at Terra like a frisbee. Terra barely manages to stop it, but the weight of it causes her to fly backwards unintentionally while stopping it. Terra grows angrier and her eyes light up completely yellow and throws the disc at Superboy. He responds by punching right throw the marble disc, breaking it apart into tiny pieces with no effort. He smirks with confidence, but then it turns into a frown when Terra starts yelling loudly, gaining the attention of the other titans. Terra starts clinching her fists and slams them into the ground and two large stone pillars pop up both next to Superboy and clashes them together and they both collide into Superboy. He is briefly dazed as he hits the ground. Terra jumps off her hovering platform to slam her fist onto him, but he barely dodged the attack and rolls to a knee.
"Terra! Terra, you gotta calm down! Control! Don't lose control!" Superboy tries to get to her.
Terra couldn't hear him. She instead yells even louder in anger after losing control of her powers. Blue Beetle fires a Sonic cannon at her, causing Terra to scream and cover her ears. She throws more marble at Blue Beetle, forcing him to dodge and fly out of the way. Wonder Girl swings her lasso in circles before tossing it forward and it entraps Terra, bringing her down to the surface. Superboy and Blue Beetle both hold her as Starfire slowly approaches her.
"Terra. Remember who you are. How you came to be the person you are today." Starfire spoke.
"I'll kill you all! Kill anything! Anyone! Rahhhh!" Terra roared. She tries to break out of the boys grip, to no avail. "I….. I must….. Garfield! He….. must be…. Avenged!"
Terra is filled with so much anger. Anger based on the negative memories of her past, including the loss of her love, Beast Boy.
"You are Terra. Member of the Teen Titans. You were Garfield's closest friend. He loved you. He would be happy that you survived and you moved on. He helped you become a better person. Remember who you are." Starfire tells her.
Terra starts remembering her words by heart. She starts growing less angry and is no longer resisting her own friends as she begins taking deep breaths. Her eyes stop glowing yellow and her friends see her usual turquoise eyes.
"Please….. help me." Terra sheds a tear.
Starfire rubs her hands together for a few seconds. She closes her eyes and sighs. Her hands glow green as she runs her hands on Terra's arms as the latter sheds more tears. Starfire gives her a friendly smile with sad eyes as she continues. She brings her hands up to Terra's face and rubs them before touching her forehead and slowly running her fingers in some sort of rhythm.
Terra is beginning to feel it in her brain and starts feeling woozy. The geokinetic girl sighs in relief before she closes her eyes and slowly falls over with Blue Beetle still cradling her head in his lap. Cassandra unwraps her lasso as she and Superboy stand up.
"Wow. What did you do to her?" Firestorm looks at his leader in amazement.
"It's a special technique I've learned on my home planet. We use it as part of meditation to help calm one's nerves, even if we were to have night terrors. It can also temporarily relive one of any negative emotions and memories." Starfire explained. "Terra will be fine. But she will be asleep for a few earth hours. That is enough sparring for today."
Blue Beetle carries Terra back to the tower. Superboy, Firestorm and Cassandra remain behind to talk to Sta
"That was a close call. This is the fifth time this week it has happened. It'll take a long time for her to control them." Superboy said.
"We're lucky that the government isn't on our asses or even hers. Otherwise the situation would only get worse, particularly for her." Cassandra worries for her friend.
"But she's becoming reckless. The longer this keeps up, the more mess she's gonna make, and could pummel us in the process." Firestorm said, cashing Cassandra to smack him in the chest with the back of her hand.
"Do not talk about your own teammates behind their backs. Besides, you do not have room to talk." Starfire calls him out.
She's not necessarily wrong though. Firestorm did nearly nuke an entire city to destroy the Regime rather than let them free Superman during Brainaic's invasion. Batman called him out for a reckless stunt.
"Then what do you suggest we do then? She's obviously not gonna be a weapon of mass destruction. Over our damn dead bodies." Cassandra stands up for Terra.
"You're right. That's why Batman helped rebuild this team. So we can help each other. To control our weaknesses and turn them into strength. Conquering weaknesses is not without challenge. That includes Firestorm, Blue Beetle and Terra. We've all been through tough times. And Terra has suffered pain beyond belief." Starfire tells everyone.
"We can help her. If we want everyone to trust her. She's not a bad person. Batman trusts her, and so should we." Superboy said.
"Yes. That is true, Con-El. But we must be patient. And let Terra rest for now. She has been through much today. I will talk to her the following morning. See what I can do." Starfire assured her friends.
The teen titans are all doing the best they can to master their abilities and build better friendships with each other. And they also share the same goal as Batman does: regaining the world's trust.
Note: The JL are moving on with their lives. Dinah personally sees Kara as a sister and takes her under her wing. Kara has trained under her and Bruce. Included Mister Terrific because I really enjoyed him in the cartoons and the Injustice movie despite the latter not being that good. And I've thought long and hard on whether to include the Teen Titans or not. Old faces have returned with Firestorm and Blue Beetle joining, and a couple new faces being Wonder Girl and Terra. They will get more focus. I hope you've enjoyed.
