Chapter Seventeen

Back in Chicago, Hugh stood before the scene where the Mafia had attacked Samuel and Alexandra.

He had received word from Sargent Harris of the situation and was instantly at the scene.

The whole area had been cornered off from the public and evidence was being gathered.

To the side he saw some police officers interviewing some people dressed in street wear who were pointing around them and at the crime scene.

Hugh could also see there were splashes and puddles of blood on the ground as well as some marks on the ground that looked like tyre marks as well as some footprints.

He looked over to the hire car to see some coroners were analysing the scene there, whilst some were pulling out Jason's body before placing it in a body bag.

He sighed as he watched, this wasn't new to him, but it was still sad, as he knew that the man in the bag had a family and loved ones he would need to inform of his fate.

Just then he saw Sargent Harris walking over.

"What's the damage?" he asked.

Harris sighed.

"One dead body in the hire car, according to what we've observed it was a stabbing to the chest, death by blood loss more than likely, and we saw many bloody handprints on his clothes, I think whoever was in the car was trying to help him as we saw a bloody cloth which turned out to be a small scarf near the body."

"And where are they?" Hugh asked referring to who had been trying to help Jason, to which Harris looked at the blood on the ground.

"Apparently we're not sure what happened here, but there was a massacre that took place here, there's so much blood on the ground that I'm guessing whoever was attacked, they wouldn't have lasted long."

"Yet the bodies aren't here?" Hugh questioned as he looked at the blood then at the tyre marks which he saw some coroners were analysing as well as taking pictures.

"We're speculating that maybe the bodies were taken, yet why the ones where the blood stains were but not Jason?"

Hugh had a theory, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions, so he pushed that thought aside planning to ask Tyroth later and looked back at Harris.

"What about the man in the hire car?" he asked.

"I recognise him." Harris informed "Jason Weis, not unknown to the law, been arrested a few times for fights, and the odd drug charge, worked odd jobs to get by, most recent at a local garage, was staying at a bedsit downtown,"

"Any family?" Hugh asked.

Harris shook her head.

"From his records, I remember, his mother's been dead six years, father unknown, no siblings."

"Lone wolf I see." Hugh mused "Let still, there must be someone who cares?"

"We'll look into it, sir." Harris promised "We can also contact the Hire Car company to see who the car was registered to; it might give us an idea or a clue to who might have been here also and was even the other victims that left behind the blood stains." She looked back at the blood on the ground.

"That would help a lot." Hugh agreed.

"Were there any witnesses?" he asked looking back at the other officers who were talking to the people in street wear.

"Not to what happened here no, yet those guys over there say they heard noises, sounds of guns and a vehicle being driven, but that's it."

"I take it they were the ones who called us?" Hugh asked to which Harris nodded.

"They were leaving an Underground Fight Club Tournament that took place not far from here." Harris said.

"A Fight Club you say?" Hugh asked raising an eyebrow then he nodded.

"Okay," he said, "See what else you can gather, both from here and from the witnesses."

"Yes sir." Harris agreed.

"In the meantime, I'll be doing some investigating on my own." Hugh mused to himself.

Back in Mutopia, Samuel and Alexandra were still sitting in the medical room trying to gather their thoughts on their current situation.

"He's right Sam, the Turtle is right." Alexandra said breaking the silence between them to which Samuel looked at her.

"They're not the ones we should be angry at, they saved our lives, well the rhino and warthog did."

"I'm not saying I'm not grateful, of course I am... but our lives were taken away from us to where we're expected to just...be these things and not go back to our normal lives!?"

"They have...and I'm just as upset as you are..." Alexandra said.

"And what about our families!?" Samuel demanded to which Alexandra looked down heartbroken.

"What are we supposed to so, never see them again!?" Samuel asked.

Alexandra didn't say anything but her look alone answered her boyfriend's question.

Samuel looked away from her and back at his clawed hands.

"What the hell!?" he growled, seething as he thought of his beloved family back in Texas.

Alexandra meanwhile wiped a tear from her eye and looked at her own paws.

"Mum and Austin." She murmured "They would never recognise me... not like this!"

"Damn it all!" Samuel snapped.

"It's not fair Sam!" Alexandra started to sob "It's just not fair... why us? Why?"

Seeing his girlfriend start to cry, Samuel instantly wrapped his arms around her "I don't know Alex...I just don't know..."

"As you said, we had our lives, our families...and now it's been ripped away..."

Samuel held Alexandra close as a couple of tears fell.

"Our families will be wanting to know what's happened." He thought as he held his sobbing now humanoid wolf girlfriend close "How are they going to take it?"

His heart began to beat faster in his chest as he thought of his parents, of his older brother, but then when his little sister entered his mind, he bit his lip trying not to scream out in sadness and frustration remembering how she looked up to him, how would this affect her? He didn't want to imagine.

A couple of hours later at the police station, Hugh stood in the office sipping some coffee whilst he waited for the results on the Hire car.

He didn't have to wait look before Harris appeared again with a file.

"I got the answers you need sir." She said handing him the file.

"Apparently it was registered to a Samuel Ray Henry and Alexandra Rose Brown."

"I see." Hugh said sitting at a desk and opening the file.

As he did, he saw two photographs and information files.

One was of a young black man with long black hair and deep brown eyes wearing a black and red hoodie in what appeared to be a mugshot picture, and the other was of a smiling Caucasian woman with blue eyes and long ebony hair in a nurse's uniform.

Studying the first photograph of the man Samuel Ray Henry, he muttered to himself as he read it.

"Samuel Ray Henry of Corsicana Texas, born to Billy and Gloria Henry, Brother Bobby, and younger sister Christine.

Went to Corsicana High School, after graduating took odd jobs including working in his father's garage."

He then looked at the photo and saw that Samuel looked rather bruised above the eye and there were some old scars on his face.

"Mugshot taken after being arrested in Dallas after getting into a fight with another man on grounds of racism." He read.

"Often seen at Underground Fights, has a reputation for being one of the best fighters in the state of Texas." his eyes widened as he read that part then remembered what Harris has said about the witnesses.

"He must have been there that night!" he thought to himself, then he looked over at the picture of Alexandra.

"Yet, why would he be with this lady?" he thought to himself as he looked at Alexandra's photograph.

"Alexandra Rose Brown, born in London England to Claudia Brown a psychotherapist, father unknown, Stepfather Police officer, Austin Green, family moved to Anchorage Alaska for a Job transfer, studied at Bettye Davies East Anchorage High School before doing medical studies at the University of Alaska Anchorage becoming a registered nurse at the Providence Alaska Medical Centre, been working there for four years."

Hugh tapped his chin as he read the files then he thought of the families that would be left behind because of the disappearance of this couple.

He only knew what it was like, as he had been to people's houses to inform them of their loved one's deaths, whether it be a car accident, homicide, or anything else, it was never easy.

He also wanted to get in touch with Tyroth to ask him if he knew anything about what happened, as he knew if people went missing in Chicago, he often guessed they had wound up in Mutopia, and he wondered as well as secretly hoped that was the case.

Hugh wasn't wrong in thinking that, as down in Mutopia, Tyroth had returned from patrol with his wife and the Chicago Knights and had been informed by Cam and Barry of their newest arrivals.

"So, we got a couple of new arrivals?" Tyroth asked upon arriving at the entrance.

"Newbies?" Percy's voice was heard.

"Sweet!" Heather said excitedly.

"Where are they?" Sharky asked grinning "Can't wait to give them a proper Mutopia welcome!"

"Hang in there guys!" Tyroth said over his shoulder then back at Cam and Barry.

"Where did you get them?" he asked narrowing his eyes.

"At the tournament." Cam reported "We rescued them after they were attacked, both were literally an inch from death, so we gave them the water."

"What did they turn into?" Sarah asked curiously.

"I'd like to know that too!" Kate added and the other Knights joined in unison.

"Calm down everyone." Sephie said then looked at Cam and Barry.

"Where are they now?" she asked to which Cam and Barry informed the gecko that they were in James's Medical room with George.

"Right now, Gramps is talking to them, we just made up a bedroom for them for when they're ready, they're rather upset at their predicament though." Barry said.

Tyroth sighed.

"Not surprising." He said, "It's common for a lot of newcomers to be upset at their mutations, especially if they were ripped away from the life they knew before."

He glanced at Sephie who nodded in agreement.

"I can offer some help if needed?" she asked.

"I think that might help a lot." Tyroth agreed then looked at the Knights "You guys go and get yourselves settled, Sephie and I will go and see to the newcomers."

"Sure thing boss!" Jack said then gave a gesture of his head to the others to follow him whilst Tyroth and Sephie followed Cam and Barry to the medical room.

Officer Hugh has been informed of the attack on Samuel and Alexandra topside, and Tyroth, Sephie and the Knights have been told of Samuel and Alexandra's arrival, yet the newly muatated couple are still upset, not that I blame them.
