So originally I was going to wait until my new computer had arrived but I got to de-stress and my new computer is late apparently this is a common problem with Best Buy deliveries but worse is complaints that their machines arriving damaged so like Strong Bad's first two computers my dying computer gets two more chapters one of original fiction and this one of fanfiction
Seeing that Bacon Bit seemed to be recovering from her shock, Dana and Glass Joe bid farewell as Bacon Bit was finally able to get out of bed.
Getting up and doing her stretches, the Mutant Piglet walked over to a new picture on the wall. This one had been taken last year...It had been during their trip to Berlin Germany last year where Von Kaiser had taken his adopted mutant daughter to meet his younger sister Hildegarde and her five children who would be Bacon Bit's new cousins.
FLASHBACK
When they first arrived at Aunt Hildy's the three youngest children, two boys and girl (The oldest two children were teenagers and apparently couldn't be bothered to come out of their rooms to greet visiting relatives)
The kids pinched and pulled at Bacon Bit's cheeks, hair and ears! And Bacon Bit was trying to pull away but Von Kaiser quickly had to stomp his boot-clad foot and yell that the kids in German that the Mutant Piglet was not a pet or toy but was instead their new cousin and she was to be treated with respect! The kids knew from experience that when Uncle Viktor puts his foot down he means business! He was better at getting them to behave than their own mother who was far too lenient with them!
The kids quietly slunk away ashamed, so Von Kaiser turned to Bacon Bit and asked in English "Are you all right?"
"Yeah…" Bacon Bit said as she rubbed her reddened cheeks "...A little tender but I'll live."
Von Kaiser sighed "I'm terrible sorry about that!"
(He knew it was safe to speak English because Hildegarde and her children weren't fluent in it)
They moved from the kitchen to the living room, that's when Bacon Bit noticed a large book on the coffee table, it was the German translation of the original Dutch but Bacon Bit didn't need to be able to read German to know what the mythical creature on the cover was. She knew about gnomes because she had seen garden gnomes in humans' yards during her wanderings even if she didn't know any of the original folklore on gnomes, she just knew it was more interesting than the usual books she saw on coffee tables.
She picked up opened up to the first page the first thing she saw was a picture of a gnome on a swing surrounded by daisies and other plants, the Mutant Piglet's nose wiggled with delight!
"Ooh! Pretty! Pretty!" She said admiringly
But Von Kaiser sighed "I see you've found Hildy's favorite book."
Bacon Bit cocked her head "Oh...This is her favorite?"
And now Von Kaiser was doubly grateful this conversation was going to be spoken in English.
"You can also find the English translation of this book in America…" Von Kaiser said as the two sat down on the sofa "However before you read I think I should tell you the darker side beneath the pretty pictures…"
This makes me super grateful I got both Gnomes and The Secret Book of the Gnomes by Wil Huygan from the library again to refresh my memory before proceeding with the next chapter it's an instance where you can enjoy the good parts of a piece of media while still being critical of the flaws in this case these books exemplify what I see as the problems with the modern environmentalist movement
