All right everyone now you'll get to hear the story of leifs dad
(Day time) city of the rats
We see smoke coming out out of the city of the rats as the creatures in it are no more our group of adventures are walking a safe distance from it that it looks like a smoky speck. Jasmine collapsed on her knees, barda and lief looked back followed by cal who wore baggy and hatter "you alright jasmine?" Jasmine replied lifting her right arm up. Filli jumped out barda walk to her while saying"you must be exhausted" she said"my legs feel like jelly and I'm starving I wanna cry, but I don't even have enough energy for that".
Barda replied"we're all in the same boat complaining is only gonna make us all feel worse" jasmine said"I know it doesn't help but it just feels like this flatland goes on forever". Lief said "maybe we don't keep going the ShadowLord's servants will spot us once they notice all the smoke coming from the city of rats they're gonna come after us". Jasmine said "that's true but it still doesn't make sense to run off without a plan,kree could you help us out fly ahead and see if there's anywhere safe to hide" and krre cawed as he flew ahead of them.
Jasmine said"let's rest a bit OK at least until kree comes back" barda hummed in agreement, lief rubbed his eyes looked in the behind direction of them and Cal said" we shouldn't overexert ourselves" and his senses went off. Behind the smoke coming from the city of rats they saw something fly "not good look up over there its an ak-baba" lief said and everyone looked behind them. Ak-baba these giant reptilian vulture like creatures who lived over a thousand years serve the ShadowLord if you look far away, the creatures look like kites with attitude.
Lief looked infront of them saw a ditch then look back to the others said"come on we can hide over there" and he ran to it. Then barda picked up jasmine with filli getting on her bolted for the ditch, followed by cal "hurry jump" lief said as he undid his cloak and they all jumped into the ditch. When they were in the ditch, lief put his entire cloak around everyone, including him and they became invisible.
The ak-baba flew over them and did not even see them "where is kree" jasmine said "he should be fine, it didn't look like the ak-baba noticed anything" barda said. Ak-baba still flying around "how long do we have to stay like this?" Jasmine said "we shouldn't move till it's out of side" lief said. Jasmine said"when did you become so patient" lief answered "well i've always been that way like my dad" jasmine said" you know you don't talk much about your dad".
Barda said"he's an honorable man" jasmine said"hey since there's nothing else to do, why don't you tell me all about him, we can't move until the ak-baba leaves right we've got loads of time". This surprised lief then cal said"yeah I wanna hear this story and I can have hatter collect a little bit of dirt while were hear you up for that buddy" hatter hummed in agreement so he popped out his spider legs and thorax crawled on cal's shoulder and started collecting a little bit of dirt. Jasmine said"so tell me everything" lief said "ok sure but it's kinda hard to know where to start" jasmine said"from the beginning, usually works" cal added" ya lief start there" lief said"OK from the beginning".
(Day time) flashback deltora palace garden
Lief said"my father Jarred used to live in Del Palace when he was a little boy even though he was the son of a servant he and King Endon were both raised by the same nurse maid".
We see two boys in the garden playing with wooden swords one was white skin, blue eyed, and blonde hair wearing a yellow shirt with blue gloves and wore red pants this is Jared the other dark skinned, gray eyes black hair wearing white clothes this was endon.
Jarred had won the fight, causing endon fall backwards into the bushes "that's no fair" endon said. The nurse said"jarred, endon how many times have I told you not to play in the flowerbeds" jarred said" oh no its min lets get out of here" while he was saying that he dropped his sword and ran, followed by endon. "Hey don't you run away from me you little Rascals" min said "sorry min" endon said while running away.
Min is the nurse maid she wears light blue sleeves, blue blue clothes, and wears a white hood with a yellow band on the forehead she's also oh got purple eyes and slightly tan skin "oh those boys" min said then chuckled.
The two boys grew up together in palace they learned, played and got into trouble like two brothers. They were forging a sword in the blacksmith part of the castle jarred held up the sword, but the blade part broke, and everyone laughed.
(Day time) giant tree in the palace garden
The boys are then seen climbing up a giant tree in the palace garden.To endon the Prince of deltora jarred was the one true friend he could trust completely. Once they had reached the top, they sat on a branch saw the kingdom with all its beautiful houses.
(Rainy day) Seven years later
But all of that was about to change forever suddenly, Jared woke up from his slumber in his bedbecause he heard the bells ringing. Jarred look just like lief with the clothing red long sleeve shirt with a sickly brown vest. Someone at the door spoke"Jarred are you awake" jarred said"yeah" voice of man said "come with me quickly the king is passed away" jarred was shocked "it can't be true no" jarred said while getting up from bed.
(Day time) throne hall
Everyone was chatting "which means Prince endon will succeed the throne" voice male said "but he's so young" female voice. We see the throne room with the colors of red and blue for the flags and the carpet on the left and the right side a lot of people half nobles. On the throne, we now see endon wearing a white clothing with yellow fabric designs and having a blue cloak vest around him.
"He doesn't look very confident" female voice said "how can he possibly rule a Kingdom" male voice said jarred wore black long sleeve shirt with turquoise and white hood vest. Jarred said "his father just died now he has to take the throne wouldn't you be nervous if you were him!" Silencing, the other nobles.
Endon was known throughout the palace to be a kind and sensitive boy because of this many felt it's not ready to rule, however as soon as the symbol of the successor to the king the belt of deltora was placed around endons waist the attitude of the Noble's changed. Someone came carrying a box the man look like fallow only the clothes were charcoal color placed the box on the pedestal lifted the lid and inside the box is the belt of Deltora with all the seven gems in the talisman parts of the belt.
The man carried the belt to endon you could hear all the Noble's clamoring and as soon as the belt was placed around his waist, it shined brightly. Carrier of the belt, had to cover his face with his arms, so the light wouldn't blind him 'father I will make you proud' endon thought. Jarred said"incredible the belt has recognized endon as king" and the light died down then the black clothes man put the belt back in the box "thank you prandine you may step back now".
Then prandine bowed with the box in hand "yes my king" he said and he was chuckling wickedly to himself. By then the wearing of the belt was no more than a ceremony by the laws governing deltora known as the rule the belt was to be locked away, in the highest tower of the palace. Then a locked on the door locked, indicating the belt was locked up in the tallest tower.
(Day time) present in the ditch
Jasmine said "thats so stupid" barda said "keep your voice down" the ak-baba was hovering flapping its wings. This cause the cloak to unravel a bit, so everyone had to grab each side to keep it from being blown away hatter had to stop what he's doing and launch a web string onto Cal so he wouldn't blow away. After the flapping stopped jasmine said"maybe if he'd worn it all the time like lief does the gems never would've never been stolen" lief said"your right but he was just following the rule".
(Time unknown) somewhere in the library
Inside the library we see Jarred in front of a book stand with a candle reading something. For first time in his life jarred to wondered if this was wise so he slipped unnoticed into the palace library to read the belt of Deltora. In the book red the first to leave the bell side was Aden's grandson king elsterd when his middle years grew fat with good living and found the steel cut sadly into his belly.
Next line Queen Adina follow the father's way, wearing the belt, only five times in her reign. Jarred said "this isn't good,every new ruler has been more powerless than the one before" then closed the book took it along with the candle out and left the library. Adin the first king of deltora new the ShadowLord though defeated was not destroyed and so he wore the belt always and never let it out of his sight.
(time unknown) chapel
We see a body laying in the center of the pedestal covered with a white sheet below it endon bowing down. "Father im not ready, you left me too soon I can't rule this country without you" endon said halfway looking at his fathers body. Then the door unlocked then opend endon turned and saw it was jarred endon said "jarred" he said"please endon I need to talk to you now". Endon said"what are you doing here? You maybe my best friend but even you aren't allowed to come in here it's against the rule".
Jarred said"calm down, just listen to me for a moment it's not right for the belt to be locked up in a tower you shouldn't have taken it off you should wear it as the ancient kings and queens once did". Endon said "what are you talking about jarred?" Jarred said"you've gotta get the belt and put it on let's go" and he grabbed endons hand.
Endon said"uh I can't you know as well as I do what the rule says" jarred said "forget the rule it's nonsense it's just a bunch of dumb regulations created by all the chief advisors of the past". "Whats gotten into you jarred" endon said "the truth thats what there's another thing you gotta do" endon said "what?". Jarred said "have you ever seen how things really are outside the palace walls, in the city and beyond" endon said "no you know that". "Well you need to don't you see you've gotta talk to the people, you need to walk among them and gain their trust, if you're their king, don't you think you should do that?" Jarred said.
Endon said "no of course not that's forbidden by the rule,besides i know all is well" jarred said "how sure are you, did you know that not once does the belt of deltora say you can't leave the palace, but it does say the belt is powerless unless you wear it". Jarred said "all we've ever known of the kingdom and its people is what chief adviser prandine has reported to your father before he died"
"And is that not enough" a voice said both jarred and endon turned and saw prandine at the door way he chuckled "chief advisor prandine" endon said. He began walking to the two boys "what are you doing here" jarred said and then he charged right at them getting between endon and jarred and prandine faced jarred. "What have you gone and done read a few books and now you think you know how to rule the kingdom, what are you planning to do servant boy?" Prandine "I know you've been jealous of his Majesty ever since you were a child and now that he has taken the throne you seek to destroy him you are tge worst type of traitor" prandine said so twistedly.
Jarred said "thats a lie please believe me endon I was only thinking of your safety here" he reached into his shirt. Then prandine covered endon said"beware your majesty he has a knife and clearly intends to harm you with it" that was clearly our lie since Jarred was holding the book of deltora belt. "Villian, traitor gaurds gaurds" prandine said then snickered since he did that to get rid of Jarred "your a liar you framed me" jarred said.
Then two guards in blue showed up and jarred ran past then to avoid being captured "was that Jarred?" One of the guards said. "What are you two doing jarred is the culprit" prandine said "jarred I don't believe it?!" Other guard said "he has a knife, he intended to use against our king find him!" Prandine ordered "yes sir" the guards said ran after jarred. Endon had fallen for prandines lying said"oh jarred why fid you do that". Jarred ran through a hall while thinking 'now i know prandine is evil'.
(day time) palace of del garden
"His Majesty's been attacked" guards said "he was betrayed by jarred" another said "find him" another said all the nursemaids in the garden found out. Jarred ran to the big tree "that's the tree we used to climb all the time i know" jarred said in the next scene jarred is on top of the tree, digging through the hole on top. Jarred said"it should be right here" it was a crumple piece of paper 'we used to write all sorts of notes to eachother in code' he thought.
What jarred wrote was words with extra letters 'remeber all you gotta do is take out the E,L's' he thought. The decoded letter said if you need me aim high and I will come 'you should be able to figure it out' jarred thought as he stuck the letter paper back in the tree hole.
(Day time) somewhere in the palace
We see a in grey clothing man riding a cart pulled by two brown horse and another man distance from the cart say"alright be careful old man". Jarred hiding in the tree saw an opportunity to escape so he jumped off of the tree and on top of the cart 'im sorry endon, I wanna help you, but I can't stay here any longer' jarred thought.
As the cart approached the small archway door jarred was nowhere to be seen a guard said "stop right there" and went to check in the back of the cart. Inside the cart was rotten scraps of food garbage, barrels of rotten food to "ugh this really stinks" the guard said.
(Day time then afternoon) outside of the palace
The cart had left the palace then the drawbridge closed up jarred had been hiding in the rotten food pile covering his nose because he couldn't stand the smell. Jarred said"we're going down a hill that must mean we're outside the palace walls" he then stuck his head out of the back of the cart gasping for a breath of air. When the sun set he saw the palace he noticed the top was shrouded by a fog "that's weird I never noticed that before".
Jarred then saw while the cart was still moving the entire village was not beautiful but worn down the whole location looked lifeless and festering. "I don't believ it, is this really what the city looks like!?" Jarred said suddenly the cart stopped and a lot of people surrounded it. The man got of the cart all the people were still clamoring and started to tear the cart apart getting the rotten scraps of food surprising jarred. While the people were eating the rotten food along with the crows jarred couldn't believe what he was seeing the people were fighting over scraps of rotten food in the garbage.
Behind jarred was the man who pulled the cart sitting on stone eating rotten scraps food. Jarred said "um excuse me huh" to the man, but he stopped when he saw all the man's eyes were completely gray,sad and devoid of life. Jarred the looked at the palace said"but we saw the city from the palace It was nothing like this, it was beautiful" and he remembered what he and endon thought they saw.
The city of Del that jarred and endon used to look at together was nothing but a lie an illusion surrounding the palace.
(Day time)present
Jasmine said"so they've been tricked the whole time" lief said"for years this evil magic had blinded the eyes of the kings of Queens of deltora before endon". Lief said" the ShadowLord is clever and sly and to his anger and envy 1000 years is like a blink of an eye he basically already rulled Del ber thanks to the belt he could never attack the palace directly". While lief said this the ak-baba was still flying around looking for something "man the ShadowLord really knows how to hold onto a gruge" cal said while hatter continued to collect some dirt.
back to the story (night time) in the forest
Jarred had been power walk, struggling in the forest he leaned onto a tree tired suddenly he heard the clanking of metal. The spirit of adin was eith jarred that night for kreen who's also a black smith was the only man in Del, who would've taken him in.
Jarred then walked to the house were he heard the noise it was a house made of white stone, brown wood and straw was the roofing. It had a chimney too. Next to the house with something similar to her to it, except it had the chimney in the center this was the forge.His eyes started to get fuzzy and jarred collapsed on the ground
Suddenly jarred woked up he was lying in a bed wearing white pajamas his only light was from a three stick candle holder and sleeping in a chair was a girl with brown hair and white skin bearing a brown shirt with a white apron and hat. Jarred looked and saw the girl she rubbed her eyes glad to see he was woken up then suddenly Jarred's eyes closed.
(day time) the house
You could still hear the clanking of metal in the blacksmith forge jarred has woken up the sun was shining through the open window. On the nightstand where clothes all need and folded, and the small handheld book of the belt of deltora. Jarred then walked out in the clean clothes looked at the forge and walked towards it.
meanwhile, on top of the house, the girl from the floor was hanging up, clean laundry to dry she had noticed Jarred walking to the forge. Kreen the blacksmith was sitting on a chair forging something in the forge he's a man wearing long sleeve clothes with a vest on his chest. What made this man stand out was not only his medium long mustache and bald head with long hair in the back he wore a gray headband and he was missing his right eye. Jarred was standing watching him forge something on the anvil with a hammer then he stopped.
Jarred walked while he said "excuse me thank you very much for saving me" then kree took tongs holding the horse shoe but he dropped the shoe. Then jarred took the tongs, grabbed the horseshoe and put the shoe in the water for it to cool down a lot of steam was coming of it. When he pulled it out kreen asked "how did you know to do that boy?" Jarred answered "I learned the art of a blacksmith in the palace". The girl walked to the forge, hearing the sound of clanking she saw jarred and kreen working on a piece of metal and smiled
(night time) in the house
By candlelight jarred was talking to kreen with the girl sitting next to him "I think I'll leave now because I don't wanna cause you any trouble but please, if Palace guards come around don't tell them that I was ever here ok they'll tell you that I tried to attack the king but I need you to know that's a lie, I could never do a thing like that" jarred said. Kreen said"hmph from where I sit that's a shame, if you had succeeded in riding this miserable world of the new king I know that many in del would've thank you for it" this surprised jarred.
This was the state of the kingdom the king was not loved but hated is it any wonder as far as people knew he lived in luxury behind high walls while they suffered. They did not understand that he had no idea of their troubles this made jarred realize the reality. Kreen said " the guards will not come here, I threw your clothes over a cliff into the sea and I watch as a group of guards identify them as yours as far as the palace is concerned you drowned while trying to escape".
Kreen asked "do you have any place to go?" Jarred was silence gave kree the answer. "Well then you can stay here, but you have to earn your keep" kreen said surprised jarred. Kreen said "those clothes you're wearing used to belong to my son" jarred said "you had a son?". "His life was taken three years ago, his dear wife met the same fate,just before em after their only child was born she's been living with me ever since she's all that i have left her name is anna" kreen said.
And so jarred stayed at old kreen's forge working to earn his keep year passed jarred and anna married old kreen died and jarred took his place as blacksmith. We see jarred all grown up different clothes and he has a full beard and a ponytail on the back of his head. Anna had grown-up and her long brown hair reached her back.
Jarred new it was impossible to contact endon directly for prandean saw all to the petitions addressed to the king never once showing that to endon himself. Jarreds only hope was that endon would one day go to the hollow tree read the note and send him the signal every morning before work jarred would look up at the tree riseing against the misty clouds on the hill. He looked carefully searching for the clint of the King's golden arrow the signal that endon needed him but it was a long, long time before signal came by then it was too late.
Suddenly jarred was woken by annas voice "anna" jarred said "what's wrong?" Anna asked. Jarred said "oh, I guess I was just having a nightmare" anna walked to the window to open saying "not to worry, it's morning now". Jarred sitting up right his hand on his face, rubbing the grogginess away anna gasped getting his attention.
Something had shocked, Anna causing Jarred to get behind her and wrap his arms around her "impossible!?" Jarred said. What they saw were her giant creatures they got a view on top of the house "ak-baba they eat dead flesh and live for 1000 years i've heard some of them serve the ShadowLord himself" jarred said.
Anna said"but what are they doing here in del?" Jarred said" I don't know, but I fear, huh?" He saw something glistening in the tree "the tree " he said. Then jarred ran with a bag on his back 'there's no mistake about it' jarred thought then he stopped, pulled out a telescope and looked at a close distance.
What he saw through the telescope was a golden arrow pierced in the bark of the tree branch "a golden arrow it's gotta be the signal from endon after all these years the time has come" he said, while putting the telescope down. "It shawned brightly" lief said.
(day time) present
Lief continued "and to my dad that arrow held hope" barda said "jarred trusts his friend he still believes that someday his hope will be fulfilled only now its lief who carries that hope with him". Jasmine said "i see" cal added "so do I" the ak-baba flew away "ok it should be safe" barda said while they dropped the disguise. Everyone was standing facing the direction where the city of rats were only now the only thing you could see was a smoke billowing out of it. Cal had asked Hatter to stop collecting dirt for his golems and lief was putting his cloak back on.
Barda said"i'd say it was worth the wait wouldn't you" lief said"let's hurry before it comes back spots us OK" he started walking behind them. Jasmine said "lief wait what about the rest of the story?" Lief stoped turned around said "huh". "How did jarred and endon meet up after that and what happened to them?" Jasmine said "come on leif I wanna hear the story too you can't leave us hanging" cal said. Lief smiled pointed to his right said"i'll tell you the rest once we get past that hill over there".
Kree showed up cawing "well what are you waiting for? Let's go" jasmine said started running. "I'll see you guys there" jasmine said ahead "not if I beat you there first" cal said while starting to run with her. "Suddenly she's starting to feel a whole lot better" barda said "I thought we had a hurry come on" jasmine said. Cal said "come on guys we're burning daylight" barda said "they're right let's go".
Lief agreed and both he and barda started to run twoards them.
There's part one of the flashback story. I know it seems long. Trust me there's one more after this. After that, I can get back to writing my own original ideas into the story.
