They were getting closer to getting their UNSUB, Emily could feel it. Which was good because two days spent in this place was two days too many. It was just so... boring. The place was nondescript, the people were nornal, well, you know, except for the string of murders that had brought the BAU here but details. Even the police officers were boring. And actually welcoming. No gossip. No attitude. Nothing. Boring. Boring. Boring.
So, there had been no further excitement since their initial flurry of profiling. You know, except for teasing Morgan about his sense of direction.
Now, sometimes she would say boring was good. Boring normally meant there wasn't a crisis situation going on and that everyone on the team was mostly emotionally stable. Boring meant that everyone was safe.
But today Boring was just... boring. It made Emily feel restless, like she wanted something, anything to happen. Hey, could you blame her? Basically every day for the last two weeks had been back to back cases with all sorts of nonsense going on in between. She was still inordinately proud of scaring that magistrate even if she couldn't gloat too much about it - she had already got one scolding from Hotch over that, and she didn't need another one. But that was besides the point. The point was that life had been hectic up to now and now that it wasn't she wasn't entirely sure what to feel.
Hell, even that whole case with the UNSUB that lured them there had just been the icing on the cake. Oh, sure, it had only taken twenty-four hours to solve, but what a twenty-four hours that had been.
"Emily."
Spencer's voice brought her back down to earth with a bump.
She shook her head in an attempt to clear her thoughts. "Yeah?"
"That's not good," Spencer said, pointing to the sky.
They all automatically looked up and indeed it wasn't a good thing. Because they sky was no longer a nice, bright blue. No, it was now purple. Or, rather, the towering clouds that had rapidly formed were purple. A terrifying shade of purple. Were clouds even supposed to be able to turn that colour?
"What the hell?" Emily said, not knowing what else you were supposed to say in this sort of situation. "This isn't natural, is it?" She asked turning to him.
He raised an eyebrow and gestured above them. "It is the sky. So of course it's natural."
Of course for that, she had to elbow him sharply in the ribs. He yelped most satisfyingly.
"You know what I mean."
"Yes, it is a perfectly normal natural phenomenon," he grumbled, rubbing at his side. "I'm telling JJ if that bruises, by the way."
"In not scared of her," Emily said unconvincingly.
Reid gave her a disbelieving look. They were all scared of JJ. She had this way of looking at you and cutting you down that kept them all in line. She was incredibly good at the guilt trip. Almost unfairly so.
"You are," Reid told her before looking back up in the sky. "As natural as it may be, it does not bode well for us."
"And what's that supposed to mean?"
Then, before anyone could even think about what they wanted to do next, the heavens opened. Quite literally opened like it was a big rip on the sky and dumping all of this water on them. Continuously. Heavily.
Emily was instantly soaked. Right down to the skin. How was there already water in her boots?
"A storm," the police officer who had been assigned to them said cheerfully as he pushed his wet hair from his face. "Blows in all the time at this time of year."
And what was so good about that that it meant that he kept on smiling? Getting absolutely drenched all of a sudden was definitely not something that you should be smiling about.
"I'm wet," Emily said unnecessarily.
"We all are," Reid said, looking far worse that her as he pushed back a mass of wet hair away from his face.
How was his curls still sticking up at odd angles even when wet? They definitely didn't help his whole bedraggled dog look.
Lightening flashed and they all unanimously decided that they should get inside as quickly as possible. Which is exactly what they did. With only some shoving and skidding around on the wet group. Surprisingly, no injuries despite the fact that Emily had shoved that police officer pretty hard as he got in her way. Accidentally, of course.
They did all eventually make it inside in one piece. Just about.
"This is not what I meant by 'I want something to happen'," Emily grumbled, twisting her hair around to wring it out.
A hell of a lot of water came out and splashed onto the floor. Was her hair even suposoed to be able to hold that much water. She shook her head, making yet even more water spray everywhere. Great. Just, great.
Spencer cringed away as water from her hair hit him.
"Please don't do that."
"What, this?" Emily asked, a cheeky look in her eyes.
"Emily, don-" Spencer began as he realised what exactly Emily was going to do.
But, of course, he was too late and who was he to even try stopping Emily anyway? So, of course she had to shake her hair again. Only this time, more vigorously. And directed solely at Spencer. Well, directed as much you could directed water flying form your hair. Which wasn't a lot but still enough to soak him, which was incredibly funny. Especially when he made that squawking noise of his.
"Okay, who ordered the rain?" Morgan asked.
"Emily did," Reid tattled. "She wanted something to happen."
"You tempted fate like that?" JJ asked incredulously.
Emily looked up only to see her entire team look at her like she had two heads.
"I didn't mean to," she said defensively.
The looks didn't abate.
"Okay, maybe I did," she admitted, annoyed. "But not like that!" She gestured outside where you could no longer see three feet in front of you.
