The next day, Adrien found himself in the mansion's garden, trying to clear his mind. Lila approached, a determined look in her eyes.
"Adrien," she began, her tone softening. "Can we talk?"
He nodded, sensing the seriousness in her voice. "What's on your mind?"
Lila stepped closer. "I've been thinking about us. I believe we could be great together if you gave me a chance."
Adrien sighed, shaking his head. "Lila, I appreciate your feelings, but my heart is still with Marinette. I'm not in the right place to date anyone right now."
Her expression faltered but quickly turned hopeful. "I can wait, Adrien. I'm patient. Just think about it, okay?"
Before he could respond, she leaned in and kissed his cheek, leaving him momentarily stunned. With a soft smile, she walked away, leaving Adrien grappling with his mixed emotions.
As Marinette walked through the bustling street, she spotted Jay ahead. Trying to avoid him, she turned to the side, but their paths crossed. He reached out, calling after her. "Marinette, wait! I need to explain—"
But Marinette ignored him completely, her gaze fixed straight ahead as she pushed past. "Just leave me alone, Jay," she said, not breaking her stride. Jay's frustration mounted, but she wouldn't even glance back at him, leaving him in silence as she walked away.
That night, Kagami waited in the hotel lobby for Luka, her mind racing with thoughts. As she scrolled through her phone, she felt a presence beside her and looked up to see a man looking at her.
"Hey there," he said, a casual smile on his face. "Nice to meet you. I'm Jay."
Kagami forced a polite smile. "Kagami. Nice to meet you too."
"Are you from LA?" he asked, trying to keep the conversation light.
Before she could respond, Luka approached, a concerned look on his face. "What are you doing here, Jay?"
Jay turned, unfazed. "Just here to get Marinette back. It really is a small world, running into you like this."
Luka's expression hardened. "That's because I'm doing my master's in medicine here." He reached for Kagami's hand, intertwining their fingers. "Come on, let's go."
As they walked away, Kagami glanced back at Jay, who watched them with a mix of irritation and curiosity. The tension hung in the air, but Kagami felt a sense of relief as they moved away from him, knowing she was exactly where she wanted to be.
Everyone in the Dupain-Cheng mansion was gathered around the dinner table, laughter and conversation filling the air. Suddenly, Manon burst into the dining room, her face pale.
"Tikki fainted in the kitchen!" she exclaimed, panic in her voice.
Without hesitation, everyone jumped up and rushed to the kitchen. They found Tikki lying on the floor, unconscious. Mei Marinette and Alya quickly knelt beside her, checking her pulse.
"Get some alcohol!" Mei instructed urgently.
Alya hurried to grab a bottle of alcohol from the cabinet, while Mike, concerned, pulled out his phone and called Luka. "Tikki needs help. Can you come over?"
As Alya and Mei applied the alcohol to Tikki's wrists, she slowly began to stir, her eyelids fluttering open. She looked dazed and weak, taking shallow breaths.
"Tikki, can you hear us?" Marinette asked gently.
Tikki nodded slightly, her voice barely above a whisper. "What happened?"
"You fainted. We're here for you," Alya reassured her.
Once Tikki was somewhat alert, they helped her sit up. "I feel so weak," she admitted.
"Let's get you to your room," Mike said, wrapping an arm around her for support. The others joined in, carefully lifting her to her feet.
With everyone's help, they slowly walked Tikki to her room, concern etched on their faces. Once inside, they eased her onto the bed, ensuring she was comfortable.
"Just rest, Tikki," Mei said softly. "We'll take care of everything."
As they stayed by her side, the atmosphere shifted from panic to quiet relief. They knew they would be there for Tikki, no matter what.
After a while, Luka arrived and quickly assessed Tikki's condition. He frowned slightly as he examined her. "It looks like Tikki has Ménière's disease."
Tikki, still looking weak, raised an eyebrow. "What's that?"
Luka took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "It's an inner ear disorder that can cause dizziness, ringing in the ears, and hearing loss. It happens when fluid builds up in the inner ear. It can be quite uncomfortable, but it's manageable with the right treatment."
Marinette, who had been quietly listening from the corner of the room, spoke up. "What should we do now?"
Luka nodded, his expression serious. "I'll prescribe some medication to help manage the symptoms. If Tikki still has issues in a couple of days, you should take her to see an otolaryngologist—a specialist for ear, nose, and throat problems."
Marinette nodded, her worry easing slightly. "Thank you, Luka. I appreciate it."
"Of course," he replied, giving Tikki a reassuring smile. "Just take it easy for now, and I'll check in on you later."
As Luka left the room, Marinette turned to Tikki. "You'll be okay. We'll make sure of it." Tikki managed a faint smile, grateful for the support of her family.
Marinette stepped closer to Tikki, her relief washing over her. Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around Tikki in a tight hug. "I'm so happy it's nothing serious. I don't know what I would do without you. You're like a mom to me."
Tikki returned the embrace, her heart warmed by Marinette's words. "Nothing will separate us, Marinette. We're family, and I'll always be here for you."
Marinette pulled back slightly, wiping a tear from her eye. "I just want you to be okay. You mean so much to me."
Tikki smiled softly, brushing Marinette's hair back. "I promise, I'll take care of myself. We'll face everything together."
With a sense of comfort, Marinette knew that as long as they had each other, they could get through anything.
Kagami walked back to the hotel, frustrated that her date with Luka had been interrupted. As she entered the lobby, she spotted Jay leaning against a wall, waiting for her.
"Hey, Kagami," he called, stepping forward. "Don't believe anything Luka says about me. It's all lies."
Kagami narrowed her eyes, her tone firm. "Luka never lies to me. I know everything you did to Marinette, and I know about your affair with Lila."
Jay's expression shifted. "You don't understand—"
Before he could finish, Kagami slapped him hard across the face. "You're right. I don't understand how you could treat people that way."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Jay stunned. As she headed to her room, Kagami felt a surge of determination. She wouldn't let anyone hurt her friends, especially not someone like him.
The next day Manon walked into the hospital, her heart racing with urgency. She approached Sazz, determination etched on her face. "I need to see Dr. Luka," she insisted, her voice steady despite the anxiety bubbling inside her.
After a brief check, Sazz nodded and led her to Luka's office. He was free at the moment and welcomed her in. "Hey, Manon. What's wrong?" he asked, noticing her anxious expression.
Taking a deep breath, Manon gathered her thoughts. "Do you remember when Wayzz died? They said it was poison, but they never determined if it was an accident or murder."
Luka's expression grew serious as he nodded. "Yes, that was a difficult case. The lack of clarity left everyone on edge especially when Marinette was accused of doing it."
"I found something yesterday," Manon continued, her voice shaking slightly. "While I was cleaning the Dupain-Cheng study, Phillip's briefcase fell, and a vial of poison spilled out."
Luka's interest piqued, his demeanor shifting to one of focus. "A vial of poison? Do you still have it?"
"Yes, I do!" Manon replied, her resolve strengthening. "Can I bring it to you? I want to see if it's the same poison that killed Wayzz."
"Absolutely," Luka said, his tone serious. "I still have all the documents from Wayzz's case. If you bring it in, I can analyze it and determine if it's the same poison."
With a determined look, Manon left to retrieve the vial. As she hurried back to the hospital, her mind raced with the implications of what she might uncover. She thought about Wayzz, the kind man who had always been there for her, and the unanswered questions surrounding his death.
Once she arrived back at Luka's office, she held out the vial with shaking hands. "Here it is," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't believe I found it."
Luka took the vial carefully, examining it closely. "This is crucial, Manon. If it's the same poison, it could mean that Wayzz's death wasn't just a tragic accident."
"What if it was murder?" Manon asked, her eyes wide with fear. "What if someone wanted him dead?"
Luka's expression hardened. "We need to be cautious. If Phillip was involved, he might not want this information to come out. I'll run the tests right away."
Manon felt a mix of anxiety and hope. "Thank you, Luka. I just want to know the truth."
As Luka prepared to analyze the vial, he glanced at her, his gaze steady. "You did the right thing by bringing this to me. No matter what the results are, we'll face it together."
Feeling a surge of gratitude, Manon nodded. "I just want justice for Wayzz. He deserves that."
As Manon left Luka's office, she felt a sense of urgency mixed with relief. Just as she stepped into the hallway, Lila was walking toward her. With a casual smile, Lila asked, "Hey, Manon! How's everyone in the Dupain-Cheng mansion? Missing me, I hope?"
Manon glanced at her, suppressing a sigh. "Mei misses you," she replied, keeping her tone neutral before continuing on her way.
Lila rolled her eyes, her smile fading as she watched Manon walk away. With a practiced nonchalance, she entered Luka's office, feigning a casual visit. "Hey, Luka!" she said, adopting a cheerful tone.
Luka looked up from his work, his expression skeptical. "What do you want, Lila?" he asked, cutting straight to the point.
"Oh, nothing much," she said, trying to maintain the façade. "Just thought I'd check in on a friend."
"Right," Luka replied, unimpressed. "We're not friends. What's really going on?"
Lila hesitated for a moment, then sighed. "I'm running low on money. I was hoping you could help me out."
Luka crossed his arms, his expression firm. "I'm not going to give you money, Lila. Not based on the person I know you to be."
Her smile faltered as he spoke. "But I really need it!" she pressed, trying to sound earnest.
"Maybe you should consider being more responsible with your finances," Luka replied, his tone unyielding. "I can't help you if you keep putting yourself in these situations."
As she walked away, Luka sighed, shaking his head. He hoped she would eventually recognize the importance of honesty and accountability. In the silence that followed, he returned to his analysis, the weight of the day's events lingering in the air.
Lila walked briskly to the Dupain-Cheng mansion, her mind racing with thoughts of how to convince her mother to give her money. She pushed open the door and entered, greeted by the familiar warmth of home, but the atmosphere felt tense.
"Mom?" Lila called out, making her way to the living room. Mei looked up from where she was organizing some things, her expression shifting from surprise to happiness.
"Lila," Mei said, her voice cool. "What a surprise. What do you want?"
Lila forced a smile, trying to sound casual. "I just wanted to see you, but… I could really use some help right now."
Mei crossed her arms, her brow furrowing. "Help? You mean money, don't you?"
Lila's smile faltered. "Well, yes. I've been struggling lately—"
"Lila," Mei interrupted, her tone firm. "You only come to me when you need something. It's always about money. Don't you think it's time you took some responsibility?"
"But, Mom, I really need it this time!" Lila pleaded, desperation creeping into her voice.
"If you want money, you need to get a job," Mei replied, her expression resolute. "I won't support you like this anymore. You need to learn how to stand on your own."
Lila's frustration bubbled over. "You don't understand! It's not that easy!"
Mei shook her head, disappointment clear in her eyes. "I do understand, Lila. But life isn't handed to you. You need to work for what you want. I won't just give you money without seeing you try."
With that, Lila felt the weight of her mother's words sink in. She opened her mouth to argue, but no sound came out. Instead, she turned and walked out of the room, her heart heavy with the realization that her mother was not going to help her.
As she left the mansion, she felt a mix of anger and shame. Lila knew she needed to change her approach if she wanted to secure her future. But for now, all she could do was sulk in her frustration.
Luka approached the hotel receptionist, his expression serious. "I'd like to see Kagami, please," he requested, glancing around the lobby.
Just then, Jay walked over, a mix of frustration and bravado in his demeanor. "Luka, you didn't let me explain what happened last night."
Luka turned, his eyes narrowing. "There's nothing to explain. You stood Marinette up at the altar. That's pretty clear."
Jay shifted uncomfortably. "Marinette and you have the wrong idea about what happened. She won't let me explain."
"Maybe you should have thought about that before you left her," Luka replied sharply. "Be careful, Jay. Marinette isn't the same since leaving Paris."
Jay shrugged, a hint of defiance in his voice. "I've noticed, but deep down, I know she still loves me."
Luka scoffed, shaking his head. "That's arrogant. You think you can just waltz back into her life after everything that's happened?"
"Look, I just need a chance to make things right," Jay insisted, frustration evident.
Luka stepped closer, his tone firm. "You should really consider how your actions affect others. Marinette deserves better than this."
With that, Luka turned and walked away, leaving Jay standing there, conflicted and defensive. As Luka made his way toward Kagami, he hoped she was doing well and that she wouldn't have to deal with the chaos Jay brought.
The next day, Adrien found Alya organizing her things in the classroom, her arms full of notebooks and supplies. He approached her, his expression serious. "Hey, Alya, can I ask you something?"
Alya looked up, intrigued. "Sure, what's on your mind?"
Adrien took a deep breath. "Do you know what exactly Hailey told Marinette when she visited her?"
Alya frowned, trying to remember. "Not the details, just about her baby being yours." She watched Adrien closely, gauging his reaction.
Adrien's heart sank, panic rising in his chest. "What? No! That's not true at all! Nothing happened between me and Hailey."
Alya tilted her head, clearly unconvinced. "But you two were married. Isn't that what happens?"
"Yeah, but—" Adrien ran a hand through his hair, frustration mounting. "We didn't even have a real relationship! It was all arranged, and we never connected."
Alya's expression softened slightly. "I get that, but from the outside, it looks different."
Adrien bit his lip, anxiety gnawing at him. "I just… I don't know if I can tell her. What if she doesn't believe me? What if it only makes things worse?"
Alya stepped closer, her voice earnest. "You need to be honest with her, Adrien. Marinette deserves to know the truth. Not telling her could drive a bigger wedge between you two."
Adrien nodded slowly, the weight of her words sinking in. "I'll think about it, I promise."
"Just take your time," Alya said with a small smile. "But don't wait too long. You don't want to lose her over something like this."
As Alya finished gathering her things, she turned to leave. Adrien watched her drive away, a mix of apprehension and determination swirling inside him. He knew he had to make a choice soon.
Later that day, Alya found Marinette in her room, surrounded by sketches and half-finished projects. She took a deep breath, knowing she had to share what had transpired with Adrien. "Hey, Marinette, can we talk about something important?"
Marinette looked up, her brow furrowing. "What is it?"
Alya hesitated for a moment. "I talked to Adrien today. He mentioned that what Hailey said—about the baby isn't true."
Marinette's expression darkened, anger flaring in her eyes. "Alya! I told you not to say anything about Hailey's visit! You promised me!"
"I know, I know!" Alya exclaimed, frustration creeping into her voice. "But I'm fed up with all the misunderstandings! You think Adrien has a baby with his ex-wife, and he thinks you killed his mom. This is getting ridiculous!"
Marinette crossed her arms, her face flushed with anger. "What does that even have to do with me? I didn't do anything!"
"Look," Alya said, trying to calm her down. "Adrien was clear. He said the baby isn't his. You have to believe me."
Marinette paused, her heart racing at Alya's words. "He really said that? Are you sure?"
Alya nodded earnestly. "Yes! He insisted that nothing happened between him and Hailey. But you need to talk to him. It's obvious he's jealous of Jay, too."
Marinette rolled her eyes, feeling a mix of frustration and hope. "I don't care about Jay! He's just a distraction."
"Then tell Adrien that!" Alya urged, her tone growing more serious. "But be careful—Jay is still in LA, and he could stir up more trouble."
Marinette clenched her fists, the anger bubbling inside her. "I'll make Jay leave right now! He has no right to be around me or Adrien!"
"Marinette, wait!" Alya called, but Marinette was already storming out of her room. She felt a surge of determination as she made her way to the door.
"I'm not going to let Jay or anyone else come to make my life difficult," Marinette muttered to herself. "I need to clear this up once and for all."
As she stepped outside, the cool air hit her face, invigorating her resolve. Alya watched her go, a mixture of concern and support in her eyes. "Just be careful, Marinette!" she shouted after her.
Marinette stormed into the hotel lobby, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Jay, who lounged casually against the reception desk. Determined, she marched over to him.
"Jay, you need to leave," she demanded, her voice steady.
He smirked, leaning closer. "Not until you let me explain. Just give me another chance, Marinette."
"Another chance?" Marinette shot back, frustration boiling over. "You owe me money from Paris, and there's a legal demand for it. If you don't leave now, things will only get worse for you."
Jay shrugged, unfazed. "I know you still love me, Marinette. That's why I'm not going anywhere."
Before she could respond, he leaned in and kissed her forcefully. Shocked, Marinette pushed him away, anger surging through her. Just then, Adrien walked out of the elevator, his expression shifting from casual to stunned as he witnessed the scene.
"Adrien!" Marinette called, her heart racing.
He shook his head, disappointment written all over his face, and walked past them without a word. Marinette felt her heart drop as he ignored her completely.
"Great, now look at what you've done!" she yelled at Jay, her fury exploding. In a quick motion, she slapped him hard across the face. "Leave LA, Jay! You're not welcome here!"
With that, Marinette turned on her heel, her heart heavy but her resolve unshakeable. She wouldn't let Jay's presence ruin her life.
Back at her house, Marinette paced her room, her heart still racing from the confrontation with Jay. She found Alya in the living room, scrolling through her phone.
"Alya, you won't believe what just happened!" Marinette exclaimed, frustration spilling out.
Alya looked up, concern in her eyes. "What happened?"
"Jay tried to force a kiss on me, and when I pushed him away, Adrien saw it all," Marinette said, running a hand through her hair. "He just walked past me without saying a word."
Alya frowned, her expression thoughtful. "I had a feeling this might happen with all the misunderstandings between you two. It's a mess."
"I just wanted to set things straight," Marinette replied, feeling the weight of her emotions. "Now I feel like I've ruined everything."
"You haven't ruined anything yet," Alya encouraged, her voice steady. "You need to go next door and talk to Adrien. Clear everything up before it's too late."
Marinette hesitated, doubt creeping in. "What if he doesn't want to hear me out?"
"Then you have to show him how much he means to you," Alya insisted. "You can't let misunderstandings drive you apart. You care about each other too much for that."
With a deep breath, Marinette nodded, determination rising within her. "You're right. I need to do this."
"Go get him!" Alya urged, a supportive smile on her face.
With newfound resolve, Marinette dashed out of her house, ready to face Adrien and clear the air once and for all.
Marinette hurried to the Agreste mansion, her heart pounding with anticipation. She rang the doorbell, hoping Adrien would be home to hear her out. However, after a moment, Lila answered the door with a sly smile, flanked by Gabriel, who eyed Marinette with suspicion.
"Marinette," Lila greeted, feigning surprise. "What brings you here?"
"I need to talk to Adrien," Marinette replied, her voice firm. "It's important."
Lila exchanged a glance with Gabriel, who remained quiet but attentive. "Oh, I don't think that's a good idea," Lila said, her tone dripping with false concern. "Adrien doesn't want to see you right now. He asked me to tell you to leave him alone."
Marinette goes home feeling defeated.
Luka paced through the bustling streets of LA, his phone pressed to his ear. "Kagami, are you sure he's at a bar?" he asked, concern creeping into his voice.
"Yes, he told me himself. He's really upset about what happened with Marinette," Kagami replied. "You need to find him before he does something stupid."
With a determined nod, Luka quickened his pace, his heart racing. After searching several bars, he finally spotted Adrien slumped over a counter, surrounded by empty glasses. Luka approached cautiously. "Adrien!"
Adrien looked up, his eyes bleary. "Luka? What are you doing here?" His words slurred as he attempted to stand.
"Let's get you home," Luka said, wrapping an arm around him for support. Together, they stumbled out of the bar, Adrien leaning heavily against him.
Once they reached the Agreste mansion, Gabriel stood at the entrance, his expression stern. "What happened?"
"Adrien's had too much to drink," Luka explained, supporting Adrien as he swayed. "He needs to rest."
Gabriel nodded, glancing at Lila, who lingered nearby. "Help him to his room," he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Lila stepped forward, a sly smile forming. "Of course, Mr. Agreste." She took Adrien's arm, guiding him down the hallway. As they reached his room, Adrien stumbled and collapsed onto the bed, his eyes fluttering shut almost instantly.
Lila watched him for a moment, a thought striking her. With a calculated expression, she leaned closer, her mind racing with possibilities. This could be the perfect opportunity, she mused, a smirk creeping onto her face as she began to plot her next move.
Adrien groaned as he woke up, his head pounding like a drum. Blinking against the sunlight, he turned to see Lila sleeping next to him, a peaceful expression on her face. Confusion washed over him; he couldn't remember anything from the night before.
Just then, the door swung open, and Gabriel strode in, his expression shifting from surprise to disapproval. "What's going on here?" he demanded, eyeing the scene.
Lila jolted awake, her eyes widening in alarm. "I—uh, I should go!" she stammered, quickly getting out of bed and rushing past Gabriel.
Adrien sat up, his heart racing. "Dad, it's not what it looks like—"
"Not what it looks like?" Gabriel interrupted, his tone sharp. "You were out drinking and then—this? You need to take responsibility for your actions."
Adrien rubbed his temples, frustration mingling with the remnants of embarrassment. "I don't even remember what happened! If something did happen, it's my fault."
"That's not enough," Gabriel retorted, crossing his arms. "You need to consider Lila's feelings. You can't just brush this off. If she's here, it means she cares about you."
Adrien felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. "But I don't have feelings for her like that. I—"
"Then you need to figure it out," Gabriel interrupted, his tone firm. "You owe it to her where this could lead. She's been loyal and supportive. Maybe It's time you start thinking about her as more than just a friend."
