Ordo Hereticus/Malleus Analysis: Sub-path: Path of the Warlock

This document has been made to assist our agents understand the new rising issues in the Imperium, one that is changing the very core of our grand Imperium. We talk of course of the Flood and their Children. However, the traitors we speak of are not that of normal folk, but those from the Path of the Warlock, Psykers.

Those born, found or have ran to the Flood's territory have nearly always been brought to this Path. A group dedicated to protecting, honing and preventing the abuse of Psykers, or if they are the abusers, there removal as a threat. They also often assist other paths with their duties with their esoteric witchcrafts. And thus they are of importance to learn for to face them is to face a challenge.

Section 1: Their Place

The Warlocks are a distinct sub-group of the Children, they however do not have their own 'faction' so to speak. The Warlocks although some-what independent are still mostly beholden to the primary paths and are often found as auxiliaries or specialists among their armies. However thanks to their psychic nature they are trained by the 'Gensym Scribes'.

The Gensym Scribes are a group of psykers that were founded in a union of the first Psykers to gain contact with the Flood intelligence know as the Tide. This group had made it, it's goal to prevent psykers in their territory from either loosing themselves to the warp or from abusing their powers. As time went on these goals evolved into also assisting the Flood and the Paths with their psychic expertise, and into the study of the Warp. Do not think their studies into the Warp are studies into demonology, they contain strict rules about such things and see such things as either abhorrent or as a heavily monitored necessary evil. Their hatred of demon kind and Chaos is almost admirable.

The practices of the Warlock are diverse thanks to these Scribes, taking and practicing psyker cultures from many past culture or Xenos and testing them to see if they would work with humanities, to even making their own. Although seemingly reckless at first hearing this, they have been successful at making stable and powerful Psykers and also has lead to a unique form of physic witchcraft.

Section 2: Their Pride

This unique form of witchcraft is noted for two things. First it is incredibly consistent, and second it that it has allowed for a far greater understanding of the Warp. These consistent and stable abilities have been called 'Callings' by these Warlocks and follow a code that is looked down upon if broken, these abilities must follow the laws of physics as closely as possible if used. Throwing a fireball, calling lighting from ones hand and even casting a beam of dark energy has been seen and accepted by these warlocks, but actions that are more esoteric are more frowned upon such as speaking to the dead, mass illusion witchcraft and ironically enough, telepathy and Prognostication. Those last two are of import as many Warlocks believe that using these abilities can open ones mind to demonic tricks, a... not unheard of worry.

These callings can be divided into five sections Sol, Void, Arc, Stasis and Strand, each Calling has a has a interconnected universal force behind it. Sol is heat, radiation and fire, named after the star that lights terra. Void is the control of dark matter and is considered to most aggressive calling. Arc is the control of energy, primarily that of electricity and lightning. Stasis is the control of time, primarily slowing it down or even stopping it. And finally is Strand which aims to control the interconnection between particles and atoms, raveling and unraveling matter at will.

Their practices are strict, as even though they believe that they are safe from being taken by the Warp thanks to the Flood, they also believe that being cautious is also valid against such a great danger. There belief is simple, the closer their abilities are to our reality, the safer they are from the warp, the less explainable the sorcery, the more dangerous it is to the user. Much of their abilities can be explained scientifically enough that a tech-priest can understand the process and thus, are safe. However this come only thanks to their beliefs and understanding about the Warp.

Their belief is that the Warp is a realm of pure energy, and thus cannot be destroyed, only converted into usable energies. This is how they power their abilities, only allowing the necessary power needed for their abilities to manifest and using it and only it, as more power can be dangerous. Their second belief is that emotions from our world form the entities of the Warp thanks to a sub-conscious form of quantum observation. Their hypothesis goes like this, a Warp entity can't exist without observation and thus don't exist, but thanks to any of our emotions acting as a observer, they exist, and thanks to them existing we observe them existing making them exist until noting if left to observe them and thus no longer exist.

Complicated doesn't even being to describe their scientific research of the Warp, this one still get a headache reading capture Warlock materials.

However, this group isn't without its problems, no matter what fools say.

Section 3: Their Woes

When it come to issues of these Warlock, it can primarily come from two undeniable causes. First is in their duty, in being the primary force that not only teaches the Floods population of Psykers but also acts as their enforcers, the Warlocks have a the reputation for being aggressive to those less agreeable to their authority and have clashed heads with allies on conquered or freshly integrated world as jurisdiction and issues of law occur. There have been a number of clashes between the Warlocks and formally allied Psykers of native populations that wished to forge their own paths or simply wished to be left alone. However the Warlocks fear that such groups and individuals could become a hazard not only to themselves but also others, making them tyrants to their own people at times.

Second is how they act to criminal Psykers. If the criminal psyker is not killed and or given to the Flood for infection then they are treated with what they dub is a 'anti-psyker treatment'. The criminal is first to always close to a blank or pariah to prevent abuse of their psyker abilities, commonly this is done by sending the criminal to what has been dubbed 'grey dungeons', prisons entirely staffed by blanks. Next is to begin a series of operations that 'dim' ones psychic abilities, this although not life threatening has been called by those who had the treatment a 'nightmarish' as one can feel their soul be mutilated. This 'treatment' reportedly was given to the Warlocks by the Leagues of Votann as a trade deal for some unknown technology.

In the Warlocks eye's the possibility of Psykers are immense, but must be guided by the correct hands. And in their mind, its theirs, the Floods and the Mantles duty to do so, no matter what others believe.

End of Study

The Path of the Warlock is a small but powerful group among the Floods forces and are not to be underestimated, and given their nature to be in any force of the Path makes them a wild card as that can appear suddenly. That said their studies into the Warp have found plenty of methods to combat it as well making them a somewhat respectable group in the fight against Chaos.

But forewarning to all that have psykers among their retinue, do not let a warlock and psyker meet together! It will either lead to more often then not our psyker betraying you or with a crater filled the once remains of either your psyker or the warlocks, and this is a diplomatic nightmare! Only let them meet on the battlefield as enemies!
