Archaeologists are extremely interested in a massive coin hoard which is widely believed to contain portraits of the final emperors of ancient Paldea before the ruin. Excavation, however, is rendered extremely difficult by the owner (or perhaps one should say spirit) of said hoard; a pokemon fiercely possessive of its collection and far more interested in expanding it than it is in increasing the understanding of Paldean history.
Gimmighoul does not value contemporary currency; it regards even limited edition bullion coins with apathy in this age of paper money. What limited information is known of Gimmighoul's collection originates in a controversial trade, in which surplus (and fully contextualized) ancient coins from the national museum were exchanged for a coin from its collection depicting a previously unknown warlord.
Generations of treasure hunters have battled these pokemon, but few have intended to do so. No one is confirmed to have defeated Gimmighoul, but the pokemon's wariness towards humans suggests that at least one defeat and robbery occurred in its long lifetime; historians would have an easier time of tracking it down if said victor bragged about the heist. Then again, Gimmighoul itself can be fairly considered a type of treasure hunter, so perhaps the attacks on it are nothing more than the usual violence of a lawless and dangerous trade. Whenever Gimmighoul finds a secure enough location for its chest, this pokemon will venture out of its home in search of coins to add to its collection.
Gimmighoul's treasure has fueled generations of fantasies, but were it to ever be unveiled, it must not be mistaken for a find in situ; the chest has been filled by Gimmighoul's tiny hands over a period of many centuries.
