Toni's POV
The friends started conversing amongst themselves and I was left to gather my own thoughts. My worries had immediately evaporated thanks to the help of the three women sitting with me. I'm not entirely sure who to pick at this exact moment and I hope that my eventual choice doesn't offend anyone here. They are all wonderful women, angels that saved my life. They helped give me a name to make me feel a little less empty. Each one of them has cared for me in their own unique way. The sound of footsteps approaching attracted everyone's attention to the entrance of the patio section. "Well, there's my workaholic daughter, I'll start your usual meal, sweetheart." Rena smiled warmly, especially to the brunette sitting beside me.
"Thank you, Ma." The blonde woman walked over to the side that her daughter was sitting on and placed a massive tray down onto the table. Well with them near each other, I can definitely see some characteristics that match between the two. Rena leaned down and gave Daisy a small kiss on the cheek while Doctor Mero rolled her eyes in response. I wonder if I have a close bond with my parents like that. I really want to know what kind of people they are. Do I have any siblings? Do I have a husband or a wife? So many things that I do not have the answer to, it's frustrating.
"Anything for my girls, here is yours, Deonna and Mina." The taller blonde gently placed a bowl and a plate in front of Deonna and a bowl in front of Mina. Oh god, all the aromas entering my nose at the same time is heavenly. I could probably eat all of this at once. "Here you are, Angel. I hope you enjoy it."
"Thank you, Miss Mero." Rena placed a small plate and a bowl in front of me. The older blonde placed three glasses down on the table. I don't remember ordering a beverage with my meal, but you can't exactly have food without a drink. The older Mero woman excused herself from the table. "Your mother is very sweet, Daisy."
"Yeah, I am lucky to have such lovely parents."
"They treat us like family." I could feel the warmth from Rena's heart the second that I met her. The aura was really welcoming and now I understand where Doctor Mero's kindness and devotion to people come from. Her father must also be a kind individual, I wonder when I will meet him.
For the next several minutes, the three of us started to eat the cooked food in front of us in silence. The first bite of the charred meat was heavenly, I thought that my taste buds were going to explode. I think that I made the right decision whenever it came to today's lunch. Next time I am going to try what Mina normally has for lunch. After about ten minutes of occasional small talk and eating, Rena made her brief return to give Doctor Mero some much needed food. During mealtime, I was able to think further about who I was going to take up on their offer to house me. All of them are amazing choices but one is standing out to me more. "Um, I think I made my decision on who I want to stay with. None of you would be offended if I didn't pick you, right?"
"Of course not, your comfort is our priority." Deonna stated, while the other two ladies nodded their heads in agreement.
"All of you are wonderful and so generous, I cannot ever repay you for your kindness." Part of me was overthinking my decision because I didn't want to hurt any of their feelings. But regardless of my choice, I am going to be seeing them pretty much every day. This housing arrangement is only temporary until I can remember where my home is. But if whenever that happens, am I really going to abandon my new life here in Hazelgrave? Am I going to walk away from the people that cared for me? I'm unsure at the moment. I looked at both Deonna and Mina as they patiently waited for my answer. My head turned to the left as Daisy looked over to me after finishing her bite of food. "Doctor, I'd like to stay with you."
Doctor Mero nodded her head. She gave me a big smile which got my heart racing for a few seconds. "Well, that's perfectly fine with me, I was the one that suggested it after all." There's just something about the brunette that piqued my curiosity, she's shrouded in mystery for me. Daisy's appearance on the outside looks more suited to be a soldier but yet, she loves to save lives. Living with a doctor might come in handy and even though Daisy doesn't have any healing magic, I know she'll keep me safe.
"Maybe having Angel there means that Daisy might actually have a proper sleep schedule and eat more than once a day." Said Mina with the cheesiest of smiles on her face. Doctor Mero barely sleeps and barely eats according to the pink-haired nurse. I wonder why. Maybe I can learn how to cook some meals and make sure she's well-fed. I wonder who can teach me.
The raven-haired soldier chuckled at Mina's statement. Deonna looked over to me and put a hand against the side of her face, it was like she was trying to make sure the brunette couldn't read her lips. "She snores really loud and hogs the blankets." She stage-whispered over to me.
I chuckled at the baffled look on the brunette's face. "Oh, fuck off Deonna, I do not." She retorted with a light snarl as her head turned slightly to the left. It was like Daisy was trying to avoid looking at any of us. Was she embarrassed?
"How do you know estupida, you are asleep!"
Doctor Mero muttered something underneath her breath as I noticed her face was slightly redder than before. I'm not going to say anything to make her feel more embarrassed. It was kind of cute to see though. Daisy went back to chowing down on what remained of her meal. "I think you made a great decision, Angel." Shirakawa reassured me. "Plus, we could always have girls' night and slumber parties anytime."
What do girls' night and slumber parties even consist of anyways? I am assuming that slumber parties are sleeping all in the same room together. I am curious as to what activities the big-breasted angel would come up with. I bet she'd make it a really fun event. "I'd like that. You all are amazing."
The doctor released a small sigh, scooting back the seat slightly before standing up. She's barely finished the meal that Rena had prepared for her. "I'm going to head back to the clinic, I have some important work that I have to-" Daisy never finished her sentence instead her eyes immediately widened like the brunette had witnessed something terrifying. Her head quickly tilted upwards to look toward the sky. An uneasy feeling started to surface in my stomach as I looked to the sky but all I saw was the occasional cloud.
Mina and Deonna shared a glance between each other, and they both stood from their respective seats. Both the nurse and soldier followed our gazes. "Daisy, what is it?" The raven-haired woman asked, the brunette remained silent. A small gasp left Purrazzo, "I feel some sort of magical presence coming this way. Whatever it is, it's very fast."
Magical presence? Are they really able to sense such a thing? I suppose it would make sense that Deonna has such a skill, but Daisy was the very first one to pick up on such a thing. "Are we in danger, ladies? Angel, come over here." The pink-haired woman instructed, that cheerful expression that had drawn me to Mina was completely gone. She reached over and grabbed my hand and practically dragged me away from the table. I'm scared. What's going on?
Deonna was quick to pull her sword from its sheath as finally a silhouette was beginning to form of whatever was coming down from the heavens. All I can really tell is that this creature has wings. The raven-haired woman took a battle stance, but Doctor Mero was doing the exact opposite. She let out a tiny gasp before holding out her hand to Deonna. "Deonna put your sword away!" The Doctor exclaimed which caught the three of us off guard. The raven-haired woman looked skeptical at Daisy before lowering her weapon. All four of us watched this creature rapidly approach our location. Wings that looked to be as long as this patio section of the tavern, the creature looked to be bigger than us at first glance. It descended to the ground stopping its flight right before crashing into the ground, right in between all of us. The magnitude of these gusts generated from its wings alone managed to knock over some of the empty seats. If I wasn't careful, I surely could have fallen over myself. "Is that you, Kyros?"
Kyros? Is that what the name of this species is called? This Kyros had wings like an eagle but everything else reminded me of a lion. Its fur color was marmalade, which is a shade of orangey-brown. The underbelly and whimsical markings all over its body was a light tan color. "A griffin, those aren't native to the meadows or this part of Mortadel." Shirakawa spoke in awe of the winged beast. Ah, so it's a griffin. Said griffin was roaring over at Doctor Mero like it was communicating with her. As it approached Daisy, I was able to see that the sheer height of this creature came up to the brunette's chest. That has to be about five feet tall, maybe even more. "Do you know this creature?" The pink-haired woman asked.
Daisy reached a hand out, gently ruffling the mane of the griffin. The creature responded with a mix between a gleeful meow and a roar. The brunette continued petting the massive creature, but Mina's question went on deaf ears. Deonna arched her brow, staring at the griffin while walking us to join Shirakawa and I. The raven-haired woman placed her sword back into its sheath. "Oh, my goodness, Kyros, I haven't seen you in years. You've gotten so big." There was a smile on Daisy's face as she talked to it like an old friend. The griffin continued to roar in response like there was a full-blown conversation. "I'm doing alright, I promise. How are you?"
Am I supposed to be able to understand the full conversation between the pair? "Mina and Deonna, is Daisy talking to that creature like it's a person? Do you ladies understand it?"
"No."
"I do not. I've never seen that griffin before."
The winged beast turned itself around and faced part of its saddle that had compartments over to the brunette. It roared softly a few times and tilted its head to look at one of the saddle pockets. "Oh? I see, you have a delivery for me."
"Doctor Mero, can you fill us in on who this creature is?" I asked curiously as the tallest woman reached over and opened one of the compartments of the saddle and pulled up a rolled-up piece of paper. I'm sure that both women beside me are also wanting their questions answered.
"Ah, this is Kyros, he is the griffin that has pledged loyalty to Bayley, who is one of the four horsewomen. He is her loyal companion." Daisy responded nonchalantly while working on untying the blue ribbon holding the paper.
Kyros. Wait, she mentioned the four horsewomen. I've only just learned about them but considering they are legendary heroes and one of them has a statue here in Hazelgrave, they are a really big deal in Mortadel. "Wow, this is the companion of one of the four. That's amazing, Deonna said that they were legendary heroes, and you know them, that's so cool, Doctor."
Doctor Mero stopped untying the ribbon and glanced over to us. Her smile quickly faded but she wasn't looking over at me but instead her attention was at the soldier beside me. Did I say something wrong? Mina's stance changed to one that showed discomfort. "Yeah, I know them. I have a feeling as to what this message pertains too." Daisy focused her attention back onto the message, she unrolled the paper and started reading the ink printed on it. "Exactly as I expected. Hey Deonna."
"Yeah, what's up?"
Daisy walked over and handed the letter to Purrazzo. Kyros remained close to the doctor's side almost purring like a kitten despite looking like a lion. If this is Bayley's pet and Kyros is acting so close to Doctor Mero, does that mean she's close with all of them? "Charlotte wants you and I to depart for the castle first thing in the morning."
"Who's this Charlotte person, Mina?"
"She is the Queen." Wait, she's referring to the Queen in such a casual manner. Is that even allowed? I'd like to assume that it's not.
"Oh wow, the Queen summoned you both, that's such an honor."
Daisy didn't seem to think so as her smile never really returned since I mentioned the four horsewomen. Deonna folded her arms across her chest and started speaking. "I should have figured as much, given who we saw." Wait, who did they see? I've been with at least one of them since they discovered me. "Although, only you have information pertaining to her, so I wonder why Queen Flair wishes for me to accompany you." Her? Who are they referring too?
"Most likely for my protection, I'm quite a valuable asset to Hazelgrave. Charlotte probably wants another testimony for the sighting." I'm so confused. This supposed sighting was important enough to warrant the Queen's attention and for her to respond so swiftly. Wait, I remember a conversation that they had whenever my three heroes found me. Deonna separated from us to go report something to the elders of the village. My guess is whatever they saw before finding me and the 'her' they are referring to is the same thing.
"It's a good thing her Majesty only requested us and not Mina as well because then no one would run the clinic." Why doesn't her Majesty desire to see all three of them? I guess it's a good thing, I'm not sure I would be fond of staying behind while they all left for an unknown amount of time.
Daisy nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that would be troublesome. Mina, are you going to be alright to run the clinic by yourself?"
The big-breasted angel beside me gave a confident grin and flexed her arms. That adorable and cheerful energy is contagious even Doctor Mero managed to give a slight smile. "Oh yeah, I can handle it."
What does that mean for me? I originally was going to stay with Doctor Mero until I can get on my feet. But if she's going to be going far away with Deonna for an unknown amount of time. Does that mean that I stay with Mina while the brunette is absent? Not that I mind, Shirakawa has been a real sweetheart to me too; they all have. The castle must be in the capital city, and I can't help but wonder if someone from there would recognize me. Perhaps I can be from there or recognize anything on the way. If I remain in the village and not cease this opportunity to travel, I will never know. My attention turned over to the tallest brunette, who was still petting Kyros. I wonder if he would let me pet him too. He's very cute for such a big beast. "Daisy and Deonna, can I please accompany you?"
Deonna looked almost surprised by my question. I have to see the world every opportunity that is given to me and this is the first chance. "Are you sure that you are in a good enough state to travel such a distance? Nehanora is on the other side of the country."
I could notice the slight concern in the raven-haired woman's voice as Doctor Mero shifted her gaze to me. "I feel much better. There is a chance that someone in Nehanora might have a clue to my identity and I have to seize that opportunity." My place is somewhere in this world and I'm not sure how far I managed to travel or how I ended here in Hazelgrave. What are the chances that someone would know me there? "Plus, I know that you and Daisy would keep me safe." A soldier and a doctor are the perfect companions to travel with. I know that nothing bad would happen with them around.
Both of the women looked between each other, Deonna gave a slight nod of her head. Doctor Mero nodded her head, giving me a small smile. "Alright, you're right. If this could potentially lead to you regaining your memories, we shouldn't stop that from happening. As long as you don't overdo yourself, we'll be there to help. We will have to prepare for the trip." Daisy grabbed the letter back from the raven-haired soldier and tucked it back into Kyros' saddle. "But that's a tomorrow problem, I'm go-"
"Hey Deonna, is the rumor true? People in the unit are talking about you seeing Vyrolo, is that true?!" A voice shouted loudly as most of us turned our heads to see two women approaching us. The woman that was briskly walking toward us didn't look like a soldier, her attire looked too formal. This stranger had dark, brown hair that flowed down past her chest. She had a tanned complexion and is almost the height of Doctor Mero. The red dress leaves her shoulders mostly uncovered and flows down into a simple jewel neckline. The dress' waist is thin, but it's a comfortable fit. A black, skinny bow has been wrapped around her and rests gently on her lower back. Below the waist the dress widens and has a bell style and goes down to her ankles. One thing that I noticed was a necklace that was bedazzled in diamonds with the letters CG.
This other woman followed behind the stranger; she was dawning the same armor as Deonna. Her figure was stocky compared to the slender brunette, her hair was light brown, almost looking blonde and it had delicate waves in it. They were close to the same height. Both women approached and I noticed that Mina looked over to me with a worried look. Does she not like these two? Deonna grunted with a scowl. "Chelsea..."
The stranger now known as Chelsea looked to Deonna curiously and looked away from the soldier and to me and Mina. She continued looking at everyone present here until her eyes looked at Daisy. Her excited expression shifted, and the brunette clicked her lips together. This expression on her face shows fear. Why is she afraid? "Oh Doctor… I didn't see you there."
"..." Daisy didn't even verbally acknowledge Chelsea or whoever her friend accompanying her was. There was nothing but a blank stare at the other brunette, something was off. She looked paler like she was scared of something. I'm not sure what I am feeling now but it makes me feel like I can't move. This tense feeling, it makes my body tremble slightly and I notice that it's affecting Chelsea and Mina the same way. Doctor Mero sighed and that feeling of unease disappeared as she turned away from us and started walking away. The griffin looked at the group like it was judging us harshly for some reason. "Come on Kyros, let's go. You can stay with me tonight; I know someone that will be happy to see you."
With that, Kyros turned his heels and followed beside the Doctor as she walked away without saying a farewell to any of us. Deonna exhaled another sigh, reaching her hand over and smacked the brunette over the head roughly. "Fucking blabbermouth, you really had to scream it to the heavens." Chelsea yelped, rubbing the back of her head. "Yes, Chel, it's true."
"Who's Vyrolo?" Is this the person that they saw before finding me?
Chelsea turned her attention to me. "She's this massive beast of a dragon, legend has it that she can create thunderstorms with the flap of her wings. They also call her the 'Champion of the White'. During the last war, many soldiers lost their lives in the battles in Quven. Over one hundred soldiers encountered Vyrolo and these were Mortadel's elite soldiers. They were no match for her. She devoured pretty much every single one of them." I let out a gasp at her explanation, the three of them witnessed seeing such a ferocious beast. Vyrolo is a dragon that has eaten many people. Now it makes sense why some bodies were unable to be buried because she left no trace of them.
The other woman groaned at the brunette. "Chelsea, you know this subject is very taboo around here. What if Doctor Mero heard ya talkin' about the war?" Her accent was unique and very thick, but I was able to understand what she said. The subject of Vyrolo and this war is forbidden to talk about. What would Daisy have done if she heard what Chelsea said? She looked really upset whenever she left.
"I wouldn't have brought it up if I saw her there. But I really had to know if the rumor was true, Piper."
"You couldn't have pulled Deonna aside and asked her in confidence. You're so impulsive, Chel I swear. " Piper scolded the slightly taller brunette.
I found myself glancing back in the direction of the clinic with the small chance that Doctor Mero was going to come back. She's really upset. Neither Mina or Deonna budged from their spots, but Mina's normal cheery smile was gone. Why aren't they going to talk to her? Someone needs to cheer her up. "It was really nice to meet you, Chelsea and Piper. I'm sure I will see you both around. Please excuse me, I'm going to go check on Daisy."
"Angel, leave her be. She needs time to clear her-"
"Deonna, it's okay." The pink-haired nurse interrupted her. Mina gave me a beautiful smile and looked back over to her friend. "Angel is a sweetheart and wants to help, we shouldn't stop her." It seems that Shirakawa agrees that I should go see if the brunette is okay. With a couple of short farewells, I left my friends with Chelsea and Piper and started making my way back down toward the clinic.
I could see the front of the clinic; I noticed that neither Daisy nor Kyros were outside so that means they are probably inside. Opening the front door, I noticed the entire front lobby was vacant as well. I guess that's a good thing because that means no one is sick or injured. What work does the brunette need to do if that's the case? I walked over to the door that Mina had said connected the clinic to the home Daisy had. As I approached, I could hear the small roars of Kyros, ah so she's retired to her place for the day. I heard the brunette mumbling to presumably the griffin inside, but I didn't understand what she said. Knocking on the door a few times softly, I called out to her. "Doctor?"
Kyros was still meowing and roaring as I heard movement from inside. While the footsteps grew louder, I could feel a sense of nervousness starting to form inside me. What if I have pissed her off and she's upset because of me? Her smile faded once I had mentioned the four horsewomen, but Daisy was still talking until Vyrolo was mentioned. The door opened slowly, and the brunette looked at me with slight surprise. "Oh Angel. I thought you were going to stay with Deonna and Mina."
The second that she looked at me, I was able to see that her eyes were slightly reddened. Doctor Mero had been crying. Did I cause this? I didn't want to stay silent for too long, but I wasn't sure if she was going to be upset with me or not. "I was going too but I couldn't help but be worried about you. You seemed upset." I said sincerely, Daisy's brow lowered slightly almost like she looked remorseful. "Can I come in?"
"Yeah, I mean, it's your place now too." She opened the door wider and allowed me to step inside. The first thing that I noticed was that Kyros was lying on the carpet that laid in the middle of the living area. His head tilted as he looked at me. Seeing the griffin curled up like a cat was pretty adorable. There were no walls or doors separating the living room, kitchen and the bedroom. The only door was over near the bed which I assume is the washroom. Daisy walked over toward the couch that was near the front window and sat down in the middle, her medicine bag was on the far-right cushion. "I'm sorry I don't have a lot of belongings, I'm not here often."
Rena calls Doctor Mero a workaholic so even whenever she doesn't have patients, she's still finding something to do. Instead of sleeping in her bed, the brunette was resting out on the waiting room sofa. "Don't apologize. Thank you for taking me in." She doesn't need to apologize for not having a fancy place or loads of furniture. Anything is better than sleeping outside in the cold where lord knows what could hurt me.
There was a cute little coffee table pushed over underneath the window to probably give Kyros the room to lay down. I decided to walk around the winged creature and sit myself down beside her on the couch. "No problem, we weren't going to leave you homeless. I was honestly surprised whenever you chose me." She smiled warmly at me which got my heart to thump loudly in my chest a couple times. Why was she surprised? Does the brunette not think I am comfortable around her or something? Her lips parted to speak once again but her head turned back to look at her bag, which had started.. moving. Wait, why is the bag moving?! Something poked its head out of the bag and started hissing directly at me. "Hey now, don't be like that. She's not a threat to your master, I promise. She's a friend."
The creature continued to emit a low hissing sound as it climbed out of the bag. This creature looked to be about a foot tall and was a charcoal black color. The creature resembled more feline traits with a heavier top and slender back legs. The orange eyes of said creature continued to stare at me as it went onto Daisy's lap. "Oh, what a cutie, who is this?"
"This is Rascalz, he's a Helitten and my companion. He's very territorial and has just woken up from his nap." She looked down to the Rascalz as he glanced back up to his owner with an annoyed look in his eyes. Movement caught my attention away from us as Kyros started making his way over to us. Rascalz studied the griffin in front of him. "Kyros, do you remember Rascalz?"
What followed was an onslaught of meowing and roaring as the pair looked like they were best friends that hadn't seen each other in years. Doctor Mero smiled as Rascalz got down onto the floor and Kyros nudged him along. "Daisy, how do you understand them?"
"Whenever you form a bond with creatures and they trust you enough, you are able to understand them."
"Wow, that's amazing. I hope I can form bonds like you have with animals." I watched the pair of animals for a minute and both creatures were still talking to each other but had moved to the middle of the living room. My eyes scanned the rest of the place in the meantime, there was an ice box to store meat and a few cabinets for other groceries. A gas stove and a pump sink to make up the kitchen. Daisy's bed had a pretty decorated hardwood frame and green bed sheets on them. A small desk on the opposite side of the room made up what I assumed was the bedroom. Wait, she doesn't have a second bed or an area for guests. "Um, Daisy?"
"What is it, Angel?"
I feel nervous again, I might be sharing the bed with another woman. But that's not weird right, I'm making a big deal out of nothing. "I notice that there is only one bed, where am I going to sleep?"
"You are going to sleep on the bed, and I am going to sleep on the couch." Daisy responded simply.
"I can't make you do that. Your body is going to be sore." She works so hard to take care of people and now she's willing to take me in and asking for nothing in return. Doctor Mero needs her rest. "I'll sleep on the couch. You need comfort and rest."
She shook her head. "I'll be fine and there's no way in hell that I am going to let you sleep on the couch." The brunette's tone was adamant, I wasn't going to steer her away from her decision.
"You're so kind." I'll always continue to wonder how I managed to find such nice people. Even though she managed to give me a beautiful smile, Daisy wasn't genuinely happy, it's like she was forcing a smile. "Is there... something I can do to make you feel better? I can tell that you aren't happy. Did I say something wrong earlier? I'm sorry if I upset you. I really am. I d-didn't mean too." Tears were attempting to form in the corner of my eyes as I continued to swell up with potential guilt about the entire situation. My heart hurts. It hurts a lot.
Daisy released a small gasp, and her hands gently reached out and touched my shoulders. Her hands felt cold compared to my body but then again, I'm wearing her cloak. It's so soft and warm. "Nonono. Angel, you didn't say anything wrong. Chelsea did. I promise, it wasn't you. Don't cry." She was speaking kind of frantically, her eyes stayed glued to mine to show me that the brunette wasn't lying to make me feel better. Doctor Mero looked to be in deep thought for a couple seconds, one hand rested on top of her thigh, but the other hand lightly touched her scar. "...I..It's a sensitive topic and whenever it's mentioned horrible memories come flooding back. They never go away." She admitted.
The pain in her voice, it continued to hurt me. Vyrolo, the mention of that hideous beast is the source of such torment. What did that bitch do to her? Did the dragon cause that scar? "Oh Doctor, I'm sorry." Without a second thought, I wrapped my arms around the taller brunette and pulled her into a hug. Her head rested against my chest, and I squeezed her tightly. "If I could make them go away I would, you don't deserve such pain." Why do all the nice people suffer the most? To my surprise, Daisy didn't really protest the sudden embrace. Hearing her emitting a couple shaky breaths, my left hand ran through her hair. There has to be something I can do to make her feel better.
We actually remained in this position for a couple minutes. Doctor Mero was completely silent, and I was unsure what to do or say next. In a way, it was making my worries disappear as well. Even though I'm a stranger that now has a name, I have people that care enough about me to do things like this. My eyes glanced over to Kyros and Rascalz. The Helitten was laying on top of the larger griffin and both of them were napping. That's cute. "You know, I'm feeling a little better now." Daisy finally spoke, lifting her head up slightly to meet my gaze. "Thank you, Angel, you are living up to your name."
"I'll help however I can." For the first time since being alone in the house with her, Daisy gave me a small smile that looked to be genuine.
"You already have. I want you to rest for the remainder of the day, tomorrow is going to be a long journey. Whenever we get to Nehanora, I am going to see if we can get you some clothes and other supplies to get you started." The first part was spoken as my doctor and the second part was spoken as my friend. Having clothes that are actually mine would be very nice, but wouldn't that be expensive?
"I-I'll pay you back whenever I can, thank you, Daisy." How exactly am I going to manage that? I'm not sure about that, maybe I can get a job somewhere and earn a little bit of money to return the favor. What skills do I even know? I'll have to relearn everything which is a massive pain in the ass, but it will be worth it.
As the brunette stood from the couch and continued to flash me that beautiful smile. It's definitely genuine and it makes my heart feel much better. Daisy started making her way back over to the main door. "Don't worry about it. Kyros is going to stay the night with us. Rascalz likes to sleep at the end of the bed so fair warning." Rascalz doesn't seem to be my biggest fan right now but then again, I am a stranger to him. Maybe I'll be able to show him I'm not a threat and befriend him. "I am going to return to work for now, if you need anything, come fetch me. Make yourself at home." Home. For now, this is my home, and I'm thrilled to be able to say something like that. But yet, my mind continues to wonder, how are my family taking my disappearance? Are they even looking for me?
No One's POV
Emberfair, Montecarlac, May-Storm castle
Later in the afternoon..
Queen Mariah May stood in front of a full-length mirror, staring back at her reflection. Her lips curled into a smile which felt like it was impossible considering the tragic circumstances. There stood the sole Queen of Montecarlac in her regal knight armor. She couldn't help but admire the amazing craftsmanship that it would take to craft perfection. The breastplate was one solid piece, it covered almost everything from the neck down to her hips. A large bloodstone shaped like a vertical eye was in the center of her breasts. Four smaller bloodstones curved along her shoulder blade, two one each side. The upper legs are covered by a skirt of several layered metal sheets reaching just below the groin. Mariah's armor was painted white while the secondary color was pitch black. The armor's accent was painted red. Mariah couldn't help but grinned widely at her reflection. Her mind started to think about how this beautiful white was going to be permanently stained with so much crimson. All for her beloved. It was worth it to her.
"Cecphale, glad to see that you aren't useless like some of these other stooges. It fits like a glove and encapsulates Glamour to perfection." The blonde monarch turned to face the woman that was responsible for crafting the armor for her Royal Highness. Cecphale was the best blacksmith in all of Emberfair and the only one trusted to craft the royal armor. Cecphale towered many women, standing at about six and a half feet tall. The amazon had piercing green eyes, right eye had a scar across it and her long, blonde hair was pulled back in a ponytail and braids. Her muscular figure was on display with her simple warrior gear, her tattoos on both her shoulders showing.
"Thank you, your Majesty. Your words are most flattering. I'm glad that I was able to please you." Cecphale bowed her head at the shorter blonde's praise. Queen May and Queen Storm's armor were her favorite projects to ever work on, they were unique compared to the other soldier's uniform.
"Continue to do so Cecphale, this mission banks on this armor keeping me alive." With nothing left to say, Mariah walked over to the coat hanger and grabbed her royal robe and wrapped it around her armor. After doing so, Queen May turned the doorknob and departed from the blacksmith's quarters. As she closed the door, the blonde monarch noticed that she was not alone in the hallway; a familiar face was waiting for her. "Athena, I was not expecting you to be out here."
"I know you do not require it, your Majesty but I wanted to escort you to the conference room. All of the other council members are present." Athena held both of the Queens dear to her heart, not only as her rulers but also as dear friends. Toni was a close friend to the amazon warrior and Mariah also followed suit as the pair got married. Toni's death saddened Athena to her core. She wanted to cry and mourn but right now, her focus was following the desire of Mariah and aiding her during this troubling time.
"Permission granted." Queen Mariah and Athena walked down the corridor in absolute silence. The younger blonde began to think to herself about this entire situation. This was going to be the first council meeting that she would be hosting alone. She never did these meetings without her beloved by her side. Toni's charisma always upped the morale. The late Queen had a way of captivating everyone. The younger Queen hoped that she would be able to channel some of that charisma and lead an army to avenge Toni. That's all Mariah wants right now. The amazon knight took the lead and opened the door leading to the conference room. Immediately the eleven present in the room stood from their seats and bowed in the presence of the sole monarch of Montecarlac. "Take your seats, as much as I adore you worshipping me, now is not the time for it." Her order was monotone yet stern, every single person quickly scrambled back into their assigned seats. Mariah slammed her hands angrily against the table, her eyes looking between each member of her esteemed council. "I'm cutting straight to the point; Queen Storm was murdered, and I want to take the heads of the bastards that did this. One of you better have some sort of strategy to satisfy my vengeance and fast."
"Hey Boss, mind if I go first? I have an idea on how to really teach these fuckers a lesson." One man said with a nonchalant manner. He popped his neck and pulled a rolled piece of paper from his leather jacket pocket. The man had the appearance of someone in his late thirties or early forties. Bald on the top and a decent goatee that was brown, the man sat in a more relaxed posture and had on a green t-shirt underneath his black leather jacket.
Nigel stood from his seat next to the Queen and shouted at the man across from him. "Moxley! Do not respond to her Royal Highness in such a nonchalant manner! You will address-"
"Silence you insolent virgin." Mariah shot a glare over at McGuiness which caused him to immediately sit back down in his chair. She wasn't here to play these stupid these games and listen to senseless chatter. The blonde monarch shifted her gaze over to the man known as Jon Moxley. She scoffed, oh how the blonde had the desire to end this man's life for his disrespect however he's a very skilled warrior and a valuable asset to Montecarlac. "Moxley, you are lucky that I am quite fond of your wife and your work. Proceed."
"Right." He felt the overwhelming weight of the blonde's glare and it reminded Jon of his wife whenever she's furious at him. Perhaps given the circumstances, Moxley should tread more cautiously from here on. "Here's the map of our continent and this-" He placed the map flat on the table. The map displayed six countries, land in the top left corner of the map was unknown, separated by water and the country of Zaravilla was on the bottom. Moxley pointed to the country in the top left of the landmass. "Is the shithole that we want to burn to the ground. We proceed through Ivorpoint and instead of going through the Exkasing Mountains, we detour and avoid them entirely." He pointed to the border of Ashor and Wrencuria and ran his finger along the countries border, the mountains even go into Mortadel, the three borders meet at the mountain range.
"Did you not hear what the Queen said, she wants the quickest way possible." An elf with dark gray skin retorted, his voice etched in arrogance. The man was wearing a massive, black fur coat but was shirtless underneath. The sides of his head were shaved, the rest of his hair was black, medium-length and braided into dreads.
Jon grunted off a scoff, not even acknowledging the drow. Most drows are known to have white or gray hair, but Strickland was different. He is a noble from the city of Ikpute which is home to a lot of his kind. "Fuck off Swerve, I wasn't finished, shove your money up your ass and leave the plans to me. What Boss seeks is vengeance and we all do too." The brunette man spoke, fighting the urge to throw his chair over at the cocky bastard. Oh, how he despised Swerve and his stupid self-proclaimed prince jester. "Instead of taking the mountains, we head toward Felleko and burn it to the ground." Moxley suggested to the group, moving his index finger around the mountains and into the south-eastern portion of Wrencuria.
"That would ruin the element of surprise. I'm unsure if this is wise." A woman that looked to be of Japanese descent spoke. She had the appearance of almost a normal human with the exception of two, small, curved horns protruding from her head. Her hair was long and black with red bangs. The oni was known as Hikaru Shida, a trained oni samurai that specialized in poisons and assassination techniques.
"Fuck surprises, Queen Storm deserves justice and I'm with Moxley on this. I'll burn every building down myself." The amazon knight with red eyes said fiercely, her hands enveloped with a fiery aura as she clenched them into fists.
"Resources might be expanded to attack anything other than our initial target." A brunette woman stated. She was wearing a black and white pinstripe suit.
"However, Miss Edwards, attacking Felleko would also hinder their resources. Doing such an attack would have King Corbin respond to sending troops to aid them instead." A man with long, pink hair was the next to include themselves into the conversation. His pink locks were slicked back, and the rest was pulled back into a low ponytail. His vampire fangs were slightly showing as he looked over to Aubury.
"Yes, that would lower their numbers inside the capitol. They wouldn't suspect us to continue our rampage." A different man spoke with curly blonde and brown hair. Kenny Omega was a part of a special unit known as the Elite, they were exceptional knights that help protect the castle and its inhabitants.
"Your Highness, there is something that concerns me and I wish to clarify. May I?" The woman that spoke had an appearance that completely differed from the rest of the council members. She was the only one that didn't have legs but instead the lower body of a serpent. Her scales were a hue of pink reddish. Instead of hair, there were small snakes that were alive and moving. The gorgon has bright yellow eyes and is in charge of interrogation for the Emberfair police force.
Mariah looked over to the gorgon and arched her brow. "Proceed Britt. This better not be something stupid."
"I-I hope not, your Majesty. Nigel and you found both Mortadelan and Wrecurian armor in your chambers. But I keep overthinking things and find myself asking. What if one of those countries is actually innocent and were being framed instead?" Britt Baker questioned.
The Queen of Montecarlac was intrigued but also annoyed by the theory that was presented in front of herself and the council. There was no evidence that there was even a possibility of something like this. Mariah knows what she saw. "What makes you think such a thing..?"
"Now that Britt said something about this, no other soldiers attacked the castle." The man sitting next to Britt continued. The gorgon had a point, if this was meant to be a full-scale attack then why were there no other soldiers raiding the palace. The dragon wasn't exactly a stealth creature, but it would have been a great distraction.
"Are you a stupid idiot, Cole? It's obvious, the two soldiers rode in on that dragon. The dragon blasted the wall to the Queen's Chambers and.. our Queen was taken away from us so tragically. The dragon turned on them and ate them." Snarled a middle-aged man with long blonde hair, once a skilled knight now has passed the torch onto the newer generation.
"Jericho has a solid theory that a dragon attacking this castle unprovoked is odd. Someone had to be controlling it." Another man with dark brown curly hair spoke. He was too slender to be a soldier or anything of the sort but instead Tony Khan helped fund the military expenses and helped strategies whenever it came to battle. "However, if Britt's theory is plausible, secure a few prisoners from Felleko or Akodar and have Britt interrogate them."
"Ah, that would cover both theories well." Mariah agreed with Khan. She didn't want to assume that things were more complicated than things already were. But they really needed to cover all of the bases. "Mortadel and Wrencuria have never been known to have an alliance in recent memory but there is a chance that they are working together."
"Dragons have been known to reside in both kingdoms so I wouldn't put it past them." Strickland added in.
"Would it be possible for someone to be controlling the dragon with a spell?" Hikaru questioned. She has never encountered a strong enough wizard or witch that has been able to control such a monster. It wasn't impossible.
"For some to have accomplished a task like that, they would either have to be an experienced wizard to control at such a distance or somewhere much closer."
"Are you insinuating that someone inside of the castle was controlling that dragon?" Aubury asked almost in a shout, the question caused several of the council members to fall silent.
Mariah's eyes narrowed and her attention shifted over to the eldest man in the room. If looks could kill, this vampire would already have a stake driven into his heart. Queen May let out a snarl, slamming her hands onto the table once again. "Emil, choose your next words very carefully." The evidence painted the true picture of events that happened, the majority of the council thought the same. 'How dare this insignificant bloodsucker accuse one of our own of such betrayal!' The blonde monarch's thoughts were running rampant, and they were all thoughts that would not be uttered out loud.
"Your Majesty, I mean no disrespect whenever I say this, but you are aware that some people were not for Queen Storm and her methods for peace. They saw it as cowardly. Some people are traditional and dislike the thought of two queens. Your Majesty, I am not trying to anger you, but I am simply stating what is possible."
"No one here would ever betray Her Royal Highness and Queen Storm, Emil!" Nigel exclaimed, voicing the opinion of seemingly everyone in the room as they nodded their heads.
"I believe that to be true, Nigel, however we are not the only people here." The pink-haired vampire retorted, which caused a couple of the council members to look between themselves and back to Emil. They knew that he was right but none of them wanted to believe that there was a traitor inside the castle somewhere. "Not everyone shares our opinions, I am merely thinking of all possible options. I want justice for Queen Storm as much as the rest of you."
"We have to cover every base, if we hear any gossip that could be suspicious, we send them to Baker." Tony Khan said.
"Please do, I'll teach them not to disrespect our Queens." Britt hissed, her yellow eyes glowing and the snakes on her head hissed in agreement.
"Anyone who disrespects my wife will perish, that's my law. No matter which theory is the correct one, we will punish those responsible." Queen Mariah stated adamantly, no matter who caused the tragic demise of her wife; they were going to experience a fate worse than death. After releasing a small sigh, the blonde monarch smiled slightly looking at her council. "Glad to know that I can rely on each and every one of you for advice and strategy. All in favor of pushing forward with Moxley's plan to eradicate Wrencuria, raise your hand." The blue-green eyes scanned each individual member sitting at the table. Some members immediately raised their hands in agreement and others were hesitant but agreed. "Excellent, as for those accompanying me on this journey. Moxley, Athena and Hikaru, you are going to lend your power to bring justice to my wife, to your Queen. Don't disappoint me. We depart tomorrow; you are dismissed."
With that, Mariah turned her heels and started walking toward the door to depart from the room. She smirked, the visual of the mangled bodies of Wrecuria's monarchs appearing in a pool of crimson appeared in her mind. After taking care of Wrencuria, Queen Charlotte Flair was next on her list and the horsewomen. Mortadel isn't going to escape her wrath either. Her plan was going to come to light soon and those responsible will have her judgement raining down on them. They were all going to pay.
