Loveless IF

Prologue: Death Loop

Dusk enveloped Lugnica in a soft, crepuscular light. Subaru Natsuki , an ordinary young man transported into an extraordinary world, slowly walked alongside " Satella " through the winding alleys of the slums. The murmurs of the inhabitants and the sounds of the city falling asleep punctuated the silence of their walk. The silver-haired half-elf, known for her grace and beauty, spoke in a soft and soothing voice with the young man who had recently entered this world.

They approached a dilapidated house, its walls covered in moss and its windows broken, revealing a dense darkness. A whiff of putrid air reached them, testifying to the decay of the place.

"I'll go in first," Subaru said determinedly. "Stay here, Satella . I'll check if it's safe."

She nodded, her gaze filled with confidence and worry mixed together. Subaru pushed open the creaky door and entered the house. The room was plunged into complete darkness, making it difficult to make out anything. Luckily, he had a lamp with him. He turned on the lamp, and the beam of light pierced the darkness, revealing a dilapidated interior with overturned furniture and objects scattered everywhere. The air was heavy, almost suffocating, and the smell of mold and decay was omnipresent.

As he cautiously advanced, his footsteps echoing on the creaky wooden floor, his gaze was drawn to various objects on the dusty shelves. An ancient sword, its blade dull and rusted with age, seemed to tell tales of forgotten battles. A rag doll sat in the corner, its button eyes seemingly staring at him, adding an eerie atmosphere to the place. A shiver ran down his spine at the sight of these abandoned objects, remnants of a bygone era.

But as he walked further into the room, a foul, metallic smell reached his nostrils. Something was wrong. The ground beneath his feet felt wet and slippery. Intrigued and worried, Subaru pointed his lamp at the ground. What he discovered made his blood run cold.

The ground was covered in fresh blood, forming a dark and sticky pool. Following the beam of light from his lamp, Subaru slowly looked up and saw a gigantic body lying before him. It was a giant, known for its strength and imposing nature. Its inert body was bathed in its own blood, its face frozen in an expression of terror, its eyes wide open as if they had seen something horrible just before it died.

Subaru felt his heart race, terror spreading through his veins like poison. Before he could react, a searing pain pierced his abdomen. He looked down to see a cruel blade sinking into his gut, slicing through his vital organs. Gasping for air, he collapsed to the ground, feeling the life drain from his body. Warm blood flowed abundantly, pooling beneath him. His trembling fingers clutched at the void, searching for support that was nowhere to be found.

Satella 's attention . She rushed into the house, her panicked gaze searching for Subaru. But before she could reach her companion, she was attacked in turn. The half-elf fell to the ground, badly injured. The silence fell again, heavy and oppressive.

Lying side by side, Subaru and Satella looked at each other one last time. With a strength he didn't know he possessed, Subaru slowly reached out to grasp Satella 's hand . He made one last promise before the darkness swallowed him.

"I swear… to save you!"

The light went out, it was at this precise moment that peace would be nothing more than a dream for a long, long time.

Subaru blinked, a shiver running down his spine. He had come back to life, just seconds before his death. His lamp was still pointed at the giant's body, and he barely had time to realize what had happened before a familiar pain pierced his abdomen again. He was in the same place as when he had died before. Satella fell back next to him, their fates linked by this infernal cycle.

"What the... what the hell is this ?!" Subaru thought, panic filling his mind. The pain was unbearable, each second dragging on into an eternity of agony. He felt his stomach churn, nausea rising within him with every breath. The feeling of the blade slicing through his insides, the hot blood flowing from his wound, it was all too real, too horrible. He wanted to throw up, to expel this terror that was eating away at him from the inside.

He was overwhelmed with terror and incomprehension. Why was this happening to him? Why did he have to relive this agony all over again? He felt his strength leaving him, his mind wavering under the weight of pain and despair.

Before the light went out again, he felt terror wash over him. His thoughts were a whirlwind of confusion and despair. He wanted to scream, but no sound came out of his mouth. His eyes slowly closed, the pain becoming unbearable. He felt himself sinking into darkness, his body shaking with fear and pain.

The light went out.

He came back to life again, a gasp in his throat. The scene was the same: the lamp, the giant's body, the blood. But this time, he understood immediately what was happening. A wave of terror and panic washed over him, his heart beating so hard he could hear it echoing in his ears. His mind was a whirlwind of confused and desperate thoughts.

Panicked, he began to run as far as he could, each step echoing in the empty house. Terror drove him forward, his feet pounding the wooden floor with a desperate frenzy. Faster than he had been in his middle school cross-country classes, he made his way through the chaos, his breath short and gasping. All he could think about was surviving, escaping this unbearable pain.

But even so, he was caught again by the invisible assassin. The cruel blade pierced his body, plunging him into agony once again. The pain was so intense that it blurred his vision, every fiber of his being screaming in agony. He felt weak, the strength leaving his body as he fell to the ground. This time he landed on the corpse of a 15-year-old girl with golden hair. The shock of impending death and the sight of that innocent face overwhelmed him. "Why ...? " he thought, desperate.

Memories of his old world suddenly flooded into his mind. Compared to this suffering, the hardships he had once endured seemed pitiful. He remembered the hard times, failures, and sorrows he had gone through, and realized how insignificant it all seemed now. The physical pain was unbearable, but the emotional pain of realizing how much he had taken his previous life for granted was even worse.

The sounds of the struggle drew Satella , who was cut down shortly after her arrival. Subaru watched her fall, his heart clenching with sadness and guilt. He remembered his parents, the loving faces he hadn't seen in so long. A feeling of shame washed over him. How could he not think of them since he arrived in this new world? His last moments were filled with regret and emotional pain.

"I'm sorry mom and dad, I want so much to tell you that I love you one last time," he whispered with a broken voice, his tears mixing with the blood that flowed from his wound. His heart was filled with despair, wondering if he would ever see them again.

The light went out.

The cycle began again. Subaru came back to life, tears streaming down his cheeks, his body wracked with uncontrollable sobs. Pure, raw terror filled every fiber of his being. He tried to gather his thoughts, but the chaos of the situation left no room for clarity. His mind was a maelstrom of fear, confusion, and pain.

He thought of Satella , the half-elf who had reached out to him when he was lost. Subaru realized with horror that he had been nothing but a burden to her all day. She had stayed by his side, helped him, and now she was dying with him over and over again because of his weakness.

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE! ANYONE, GET ME OUT OF HERE, I BEG YOU!" His screams echoed through the darkness, desperate and heartbreaking. He ran, faster than he had ever run, but fear caught up with him with every step. The assassin, surprised by the young man's change of demeanor, killed him once more, the blade sinking in with relentless precision. Subaru felt the pain spread like fire in his belly. He fell to the ground, his eyes blurring with tears.

Satella entered a little earlier than the previous times, her face showing a fierce determination despite the danger. She directly cast ice spells, but the assassin was faster and dodged them. The scene repeated itself, an endless nightmare where each return brought its share of suffering and despair.

Subaru died this time near a window, looking outside with a mixture of hope and despair. His thoughts returned to Satella . She had saved him, protected him, and he had been unable to do anything in return. He felt overwhelmed with guilt. "I'm sorry, Satella . I dragged you into this nightmare."

He looked at Satella one last time before he fell into death, he hoped she would survive this world, his eyes searching for some redemption in hers.

The light went out in a loop that seemed eternal to the young man...
