A/N 1: Wow some of you are really making the case for twins huh? Anyone else want to weigh in on that one? And I never say never to past characters or storylines returning in this story - my muse just has to spark the right idea to life.

A/N 2: Again this chapter would begin the same with Chapter 10's "The Premise"

Chapter 11: Choose Your Own Ending Option B

A disgruntled Joe walks up to Jamie in his office and tosses the necklace on the desk in front of him "Look familiar?" he harshly queries.

A bit startled, Jamie looks at Joe then down at the necklace and his eyes widen "Oh my god where did you find this?"

"Oh so you do know about this necklace!" Joe unhappily accuses.

"Yes." Jamie replies as he picks it up "I bought it for Eddie for our 1st Valentines as a married couple but then somehow lost it before I could give it to her."

Not expecting that logical explanation, Joe relaxes and mutters out a regretful "Oh." at the awkward misunderstanding.

"Seriously!" Jamie continues in a wondered awe "Where did you find this?!"

"Under the seat in The Chevelle." Joe replies.

"Seriously?" Jamie deadpans annoyed "I checked every nook and cranny of that car!"

"Clearly not." Joe mutters "But um heads up, Eddie is not too happy at the moment."

"Why?" Jamie cluelessly asks.

"Well I thought the necklace was hers so I just went to give it back to her except she didn't know anything about - and I don't know anything about it…" Joe slowly prompts with the sole purpose of trying to lead Jamie in a specific direction of deduction "…and she figured out I found it in The Chevelle so that only leaves you and…" he adds before letting his voice trail off and giving his Uncle a prompting look hoping that's enough for him to put the pieces together himself.

… but it's not…

"And what?" Jamie prompts.

"Ugh." Joe grumbles under his breath – Jamie was really going to make him say it wasn't he? "You know..." He suggestively insinuates one more time in a way that is hard to misinterpret.

Now it clicks…

"Ugggggggh." Jamie groans in realization at what his nephew is saying "Great." He grumbles "Thank you." He begrudgingly states "Thank you for that. Much appreciated that not only you but also apparently my wife would think that."

"Sorry." Joe sheepishly apologizes.

"Excuse me." Jamie mutters in frustration as he gets up and side steps around his nephew "I apparently have to go apologize to my wife for buying her a gift."

A look of complete confusion appears on Joe's face at his uncle's statement "What?" He asks as he turns his body to follow his Uncle's movements with his eyes.

Jamie stops in the doorway of his office and looks back at his nephew "One day you'll understand." is all he says before disappearing from view.

….

Jamie steps into the doorway of the patrol bullpen "Officer Janko." He requests "Could I see you a moment please."

Eddie's entire body tenses up at the sound of her husband's voice "I'm busy." She gruffly replies without looking up.

Jamie takes a deep breath "That wasn't a request." He adds knowing full well that will likely just get her even madder at him then she already thinks she is but if they didn't sort this out now the addition of time for things to fester would have the same result anyway.

Slowly Eddie looks up and turns her body in her chair to stare her husband down before a second later she moves to stand while over politely accepting "Of course – Sir." She mockingly emphasizes.

Jamie grits his teeth and gestures with his hand out into the hall "Walk with me?" he requests.

Eddie begins to walk towards him "Don't have a choice do I?" She tosses out as she pushes past him moving out into the hall.

"No." Jamie confirms as he falls into step with her.

"Well talk." Eddie unhappily prompts.

"Not here." Jamie rejects "Outside where we can talk without an audience."

"Oh." Eddie huffs out wrongly deducing that that means whatever Jamie is about to say, she isn't going to like "Great." She mockingly drawls out "Yeah let's do that." She then adds in a confrontational tone.

"I did nothing wrong Eddie." Jamie insists as his goal of apologizing and clearing up this simple misunderstanding quickly seems to get lost in the tense dramatics of the moment.

"Oh so Joe found you then." Eddie accuses right as they enter a busy hallway so with people all around them Jamie lowers the volume of his voice but not the intensity behind it "Yes he did and I can't believe I am actually having to reassure you that I would never!"

"Just wait until we get outside." Eddie growls through gritted teeth so the couple walk in silence to the front doors and when they get there, Jamie opens a door and let's his wife go through first. They walk down the steps and off to the side of the building to a secluded spot.

"Well then how else would you explain it?" Eddie accuses the second they stop and turn to face one another.

"Simple." Jamie simply replies "The first year we were married, I bought you a Valentine's gift, stupidly lost it and instead of coming clean with you, I just pretended it never happened and got you flowers instead so here…" He adds as he lifts the necklace still in his hand and offers it out to his wife "Happy belated Valentine's Day."

But instead of taking the necklace, or listening to the logic behind her husband's statement, Eddie's mind had already gone down that rabbit hole of doubt so she crosses her arms in rejection "You expect me to just buy that?"

"Um yeah." Jamie honestly confirms "Because it's the truth."

Eddie eyes him (he looked so sincere...) "I want to believe you. I do…"

"But?" Jamie prompts.

(Renter the doubt) "Little convenient don't you think?"

"Seriously Eddie? Seriously?" Jamie counters in exasperation "So you think I'm what? Having an affair? Because what are the odds this other woman would have the exact same initials as you – initials I had engraved onto the necklace!"

Hearing this, at first Eddie just repeatedly blinks her eyes at her husband in shock but when she finally finds her voice out comes a very meek and regretful "You did?"

Jamie takes in a deep breath, sighing as he lets it out "I'm sorry…" he finally apologizes trying to get them back on track on how he wanted this conversation to go "…this is not at all how I originally envisioned giving this to you but yeah, here." He instructs as he holds the necklace out to her to show her "See, E.J.R."

Slowly Eddie takes the necklace and looks at it – really looks at it and there just like Jamie said are the teenie tiny initials of 'E.J.R.' engraved onto it and she melts "Jamie it's beautiful." She emotionally whispers "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Jamie replies "And again, I'm sorry." He tacks on in defeat.

"Ugh." Eddie huffs out frustrated as she tries to discreetly wipe away at the water building in her eyes. Here her husband bought her a beautiful gift what does she do? She jumps to the wrong conclusion and yet he's the one standing here apologizing to her "No, I'm sorry." She corrects "I overreacted - I know you would never…" She reassures him but her emotions were all over the place so she just lets her voice trail off unable to even say it.

Jamie offers his wife a lopsided grin "Meh. Let's just chalk it up to your crazy pregnancy hormones and forget about it."

Eddie's mouth drops open "My crazy pregnancy hormones?" She challenges even though he was again, probably right...

Jamie nods in confirmation.

Eddie could have tried to argue that point but marriage was all about give and take right so she decides to just give him this one "Yeah." She simply agrees "I like that. Let's blame my crazy pregnancy hormones."

Jamie smiles at his wife meeting him half way "Done!" He pleasantly quips.

Eddie smiles back at him but then she pushes the necklace back towards him "Here." She decides "You keep this for now so you can properly give this to me later tonight – just instead of the wine pour me a nice glass of orange soda."

Jamie's smile grows at her request "I can do that." He easily agrees.

"Good." Eddie accepts before pausing a second as a thought hits her "Wait you said Happy belated…" she emphasizes "…Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is tomorrow."

"Well I can't use this as this year's gift." Jamie reasons "It was for our 1st Valentines as husband and wife…" he automatically explains before pausing a second in thought him "I mean unless I can?" he questions on second thought as he looks at his wife for her opinion on the matter.

Eddie seriously considers that – inflation is high, money is tight and they do have a baby on the way but… "Did you already have something else in mind?" She curiously queries.

Jamie jostles his head back and forth "Yes…" he a bit reluctantly admits.

A big happy, anticipatory smile appears on Eddie's face at her husband's admission so forget inflation, Eddie wanted whatever he was already planning!

"Then no." Eddie quickly dismisses in rejection.

A bit of a smirk appears on Jamie's face at her reaction "Didn't think so." He easily returns "Hence me saying Happy Belated Valentine's Day."

"Makes sense." Eddie agrees before her eyes start to dance "Can you give me a hint?" she hopefully requests of their up coming Valentine's plans.

Seeing how excited Eddie is starting to get, Jamie feels the need for a little reality check "Okay hang on here, it's nothing big." He warns.

"That's fine." Eddie dismisses "I'm just happy you are planning anything because this is our 7th Valentine's Day now and according to the magazines this is when couples start to get lazy in their relationships and don't bother doing anything at all."

At first Jamie looks at his wife a bit speechless and he tries to not outwardly cringe at her mention of the words 'magazine' and 'relationship' in the same sentence so he plasters a smile on his face to cover "Well no need to worry."

Eddie smiles happily at her husband before suddenly changing the subject "I better go before McNichols realizes I'm gone."

"Right." Jamie notes in relief thoroughly happy to be avoiding anymore 'magazine' talk so Eddie turns to walk away but as she goes she turns to look back to her husband "And hey Jamie?"

"Yeah?"

"Wear something pretty tonight!" She humorously tosses at him with a wink causing Jamie to let out a huff of a laugh as he watches her go.

….

That evening with the apartment awash in a glow of candlelight, Jamie and Eddie sit at their table a bit more dressed up then usual for a regular night at home and Jamie offers his wife across from him a small rectangular jewelry box.

"Oh Jamie!" Eddie over dramatically exclaims in innocence "You bought me a gift?"

Jamie smirks and slightly rolls his eyes causing Eddie to let out a laugh before more seriously admitting "I will say I'm impressed you still had the box."

"I didn't." Jamie admits "I just got another one."

"Well that's even more impressive." Eddie decides "Shows real effort."

"Will you just open it!" Jamie prompts.

"Alright, alright." Eddie soothes "Calm down!" she adds before cracking the box open and when she does a true smile lights up her face at seeing her necklace perfectly displayed "It really is beautiful Jamie." She sincerely commends "Thank you."

"Good." Jamie accepts as he gets up and moves towards his wife "But I recommend you treasure it because it's likely the last piece of jewelry I'll ever get you."

Eddie picks the necklace up out of the box "Because any other piece you'll just lose too?" She amusingly deduces as she hands it to her husband.

"Yes!" Jamie huffs out in confirmation as he undoes the clasp "After you gave this back to me outside the precinct today all I could think was 'god, just don't lose it again!" He reveals causing Eddie to chuckle a bit as she moves her hair off her neck "The anxiety was terrible Eddie!" He admits as he loops the necklace around her neck "I mean there is a reason my go to gift for you now is flowers…" he explains as he does up the clasp "...I can't lose flowers!" he reasons as he settles the secure necklace into place around her neck.

"That would be hard." Eddie agrees as she lowers her hair and adjusts the fit of the necklace around her neck while she watches Jamie move to sit back in his chair "What do you think?" She prompts wanting his opinion on how it looks on her.

For a moment Jamie ponders his answer as he studies his wife wearing the necklace "It's okay." He finally offers.

Eddie looks at her husband in disbelief "Okay?" She out right challenges "That's it? After everything? It looks just okay?"

Jamie shrugs "It's beauty pales in comparison to you." He simply explains.

Slowly at his words a smile mixed with a wide "O" appears on Eddie's face.

Jamie arrogantly raises his eyebrows and smiles at his wife "That was good wasn't it?" he knowingly prompts.

"Yes." Eddie laughs out "That was indeed good Jamie."

"I really don't get how Joe didn't see the E.J.R. though." Jamie admits "He's a detective."

Eddie thinks about that "Maybe he did." She realizes as she reaches for her champagne flute full of orange soda "Maybe that's why he was sure it was mine."

"No." Jamie rejects as Eddie takes a sip "When he stormed into my office he was pretty accusatory like I had done wrong…" he explains "He didn't have a 'hey I think I spoiled your surprise' attitude."

Eddie cringes as she puts her glass back down "Sorry."

"Not your fault." Jamie dismisses before shaking his head at himself "I lost the damn thing."

"It is not a damn thing!" Eddie profusely rejects "It is a very lovely necklace given to my by my amazing husband!"

"Well damn." Jamie impressively notes "With compliments like that, I might just have to rethink this whole no more jewelry thing."

"Well if you do…" Eddie begins to helpfully suggest "…just be sure you get a really big box and maybe get the store to gift wrap on the spot so it can't fall out."

Jamie repeatedly nods his head up and down in complete agreement with her suggestion "Noted." He accepts "Noted."

"You know." Eddie suddenly offers in thought "E.J.R. could also stand for Eddie and Jamie Reagan."

A sly little smile appears on Jamie's face "Oh I know."

Eddie narrows her eyes a bit at her husband's admission "Wait. So is the intention behind this engraving really to be my initials or our initials?" She curiously inquires.

A wide satisfied smile appears on Jamie's face "Ah, that's the beauty of it." He admittedly boasts "It's both."

Impressed, Eddie again picks up her glass of orange soda and holds it out towards her husband "Well then Happy Valentine's Day to EJR." She accepts.

Immediately Jamie picks up his glass and meets hers in a clink "Happy Valentine's Day to EJR."
