"Trouble has already started to develop and it hasn't been a month due to Raven's curiosity of not writing her name in the Storybook of Legends. While it was a harmless question that she thought wasn't a big deal, it turned the school upside its head on how she could change her story. Then it would leave others to change their stories and become something else than what they were supposed to be, but that didn't affect everyone. Such as Keldor who was invested in becoming someone just as powerful as the Elders before vanishing off the face of Eternia after the last conflict that came to the planet. Despite that and peace going across the land, that didn't mean other troublemakers wanted to be the new big bad of Eternia."
Morning-General Villainy Class
Amongst the numerous classes of Ever After High was one in basic villainy to teach the new generation of future evil doers and fiends how to spread fear to others and do it in style. Keldor was in the class due to his parents being amongst one of the great evil's in Eternia's past, though it didn't mean he was evil entirely. Up at the board was Professor Wolf, also known as the big bad wolf from the story Red Riding Hood who was an expert on basic evil doing and mischief making.
"Now then class. What is one of the basic tools in being a proper villain?"
He asked the class to see how they could start on their journey into becoming new villains for their stories. Most of them were clueless and didn't know that much since they each had their own options on being the worst around everyone. One of his students rode his hand as it came from R'Qazz, a native from the vine jungle and considered one of the tribe's most savage and uncontrollable animal amongst them.
"Sharp claws and teeth?"
Coming up with a response for the professor as he demonstrates by showing off his fangs at his classmates and snarling in a berserk manner that got most of them afraid of him. Keldor was the only one that was unfazed by his barbaric behavior and threw a small piece of candy to him. Coughing at the candy and sitting back in his desk, Wolf only wrote on the board on the fundamental of being a proper villain.
"Intimidation. This is an important word that every creature, criminal and villain need to make themselves noticed by the people they are either chasing or fighting. Take for example me, at first glance I'm an ordinary man. But then."
He stops at his at his lecture to turn his back on them and slowly show his fingernails turning into claws. Scratching against the wood on the table to building up suspense, he lunges forward changing his entire face into a wolf which startled the class and making several of the students pass out at the demonstration he presented to them.
"Display yourself for the whole world to see you. All you need to do is wait for the right moment to strike."
Finishing his sentence due to how it was important to present themselves as villains to strike fear into whoever is against them. Starting to write in the books about the lesson they learned, another student rose their hand up to help answer a question they had. It came from Faybelle Thorn, the daughter of the dark fairy that enchanted Briar Beauty's mother to an eternal sleep upon being freed by true love's kiss.
"Why do we even need to be intimidating for those weaklings? My mother didn't need to act scary to everyone, all she needed to do was flaunt her powers and take anything that interested her."
Questioning the professor's statement in intimidation as she had dark spells that could make them fear her. That earned a laughter from Keldor since he did research on Faybelle's mom since she was a powerful dark fairy but was bested after her curse broke upon the awaking of true love's kiss.
"It was the same magic that had her plan ruined since she didn't take extreme measures. Maybe turn into a dragon and burn the kingdom, but you can do that to Briar if you have the chance."
He commented on her mother's failure to keep the curse in check and how she'd be able to be as powerful like her mother was. Gripping her fist tightly and showing off a blue aura around her body to where the lights started to flicker in a frightening manner. It made some of the students fear the dark fairy and thought she was ready to put a curse on Keldor, but it led to professor Wolf applauding the presentation that was displayed in front of him.
"Well done Faybelle. Despite not using your magic, you were able to present yourself as an intimidating villain. But you didn't see through Keldor's ploy in making you angry, it's one of the reasons why so many have failed in the past."
Congratulating Faybelle on taking his advice to intimidate someone but failing to realize that Keldor manipulated her into acting aggressive. Having a mixture of accomplishment and embarrassment from what she did, Faybelle sat back down in her desk to write down what she's learned and to not let anyone trick her into using magic without her knowing it. Continuing on with the lesson, Wolf decided to move onto another part of the lesson which would make Keldor regret deceiving Faybelle.
"Speaking of the past. It's always important to learn about the history of villains that were bested in the past, wouldn't you agree Keldor?"
Wolf asked the Eternian boy on his background and his parents being involved in criminal activities during the old days of Eternia. Gesturing the young man to come up to the front of the class, Keldor said nothing and decided to oblige in explaining his family's history due to the rumors around him. Professor Wolf moved to the side and allowed the young man to tell his classmates about what made his parents villains.
"My parents weren't per say villains. They were minions who were tempted into doing their leader's plans, I barely knew at the time who they worked for. Though they were able to teach me things that most magic users of Eternia couldn't master, but they didn't know it came at a price."
Keldor started off with a surprising fact of despite the expression of superiority he showed, his parents weren't the type to be in control but work under. The last part of his speech was him showing off his skeleton hand which most of the students had trouble looking at due to it appearing frightening.
"They believed if they couldn't protect me, they'd at least showed me ways of defending myself if they were betrayed. Unfortunately, it happened. All I remember was my uncle King Randor getting me out of a bunker my parents left me in. He told me what happened to them, and that he'd look after me."
Finishing his story and leaving an impact on the class for the type of villainous stories they come from. Having that answered and hearing the school bell ring, the class was soon diminished which left the students to leave and continue with the rest of the afternoon to themselves. Walking through the hallways, Keldor noticed Evelyn watching him keep to himself and away from everyone else.
"Quite the story you spoke back there. I think I saw some tears from one of those trolls in the back of the class."
She joked with Keldor that the students of Ever After High didn't have tragic backstories like anyone on Eternia. Keldor only rolled his eyes at the upcoming witch as he decided to head to the cafeteria to grab some food, only for Evelyn to follow him. Grabbing a plate and finding a table to eat, he only got annoyed by Evelyn deciding to sit with him.
"There's no need to act all moody. You're not the only one to have parents that aren't what everyone thinks when they see you."
Responding to Keldor on how she had parents that might have not been a warlock and witch like she is. Pulling out a locket from her pocket and showing it to Keldor to avoid anyone seeing, the boy took a look at the photo and was surprised by who Evelyn's parents were. While her mother seemed like a fair maiden but had the looks of a maid, her father was what caught Keldor's attention due reading up the history of powerful beings in Eternia's past.
"The Faceless One? Your father is the ghost of Zalesia? Supposedly someone who was with the council of elders?"
He tried to not announce it loudly since there were many people who'd flock to Evelyn and learn about her family's background. Seeing how that caught his attention, she knew he could get a conversation out of Keldor.
"That's what people believe. He was supposed to be a part of the council until he fell in love and had me. It resulted in him becoming the same ghost that people know to haunt the old city, but that didn't mean I learned a few things from him. Especially how to learn magic properly."
Stating to him about the right way to use magic and not lose another body part of his due to the teachings his parents taught him. Giving her a questionable look about what she meant, Evelyn looked around to see if the close was clear as she brought out her bag to show him something else that get his attention. In her bag was a small scepter with an orb on top of it, grabbing it and avoiding anyone from seeing her. Evelyn wanted to show him a small taste in properly using magic.
"Popular girls in that enjoy a laugh. Give them all a sudden draft."
Casting a spell on them which caused the windows behind several girls to blow away their plates and ruin their clothes. Keldor couldn't help but chuckle at the display of her magic along learning she was capable of spell casting.
"It's all about using a conduit in using magic. Most of the elders didn't need it since they drew power from Eternia and were somewhat godlike, but for people like us. Who can use magic need something to channel it, which is my scepter."
Explaining about the importance of using a tool in order to properly use magic without the side effects. Having accepted her advice and appreciating the help, they noticed their time running out and had to attend other classes to avoid being late. Having said her goodbye to Keldor and thinking of other ways to mess with her classmates, it left Keldor to think about how he could continue in practicing spells and magic. All he needed was a proper object to help him channel the magic his parents taught him.
Later-Sports Field
Right on the running track was several physical education classes happening with them learning different types of activities, several of the students were running, doing hurls and importantly learning to sword fight. Lines up for basic self defense was Adam along with Krass, Orius as well Daring Charming. Dexter's brother who was described just as how Adam was told, he had perfect blond hair and whiten teeth that could make any of the armor in the armor at Eternos put to shame. Joining up with the boys was Teela and another girl wearing a red hood over her head along keeping her distance from everyone.
"I'm surprised you be in our class Cerise. Thought you'd be learning about foraging or damsels in distress."
He spoke on that her mother was Red Riding Hood and was saved by a woodsman after the big bad wolf attempted to eat her. Cerise was ready to respond back at Daring for what he said about her to only be stopped by the others staring at him for thinking she couldn't defend herself.
"And why should she be in those classes exactly?"
Orius spoke with his head elongated and up close to Daring since that while not everyone had the skillset like Eternian children due to the rough environment they grew up in. They waited for an answer as Daring was able to quickly to make a response to what he had said.
"I only meant because most girls at Ever After usually prefer to be queens and fair maidens. It's possible they can use a sword, just have to be careful they don't break a nail."
Daring offered a response to the question as it only made them upset with the prince's comment. Interrupting the moment was a whistle which made the group stand in line and looked alert at their teacher coming, the one teaching them was Tesla's father Duncan. Who was also the current leader of king Randor's royal army and was his 'Man at Arms' who handled weapons and equipment. Having a serious look on his face and making the impression of being a serious man, Duncan moved back and forth as he might have heard the conversation on Cerise being in his class.
"Daring Charming, son of Lance Charming. Despite whom you see coming into my class I have one rule only, everyone participates. If you don't you fail, do you get me?!"
Duncan shouts at them which they confirmed so like if they were in military training. Pulling out his whistle and have them do basic exercises, he walked over to the sports equipment to pull out training swords for the kids to spare each other. Before he could hand one out to Adam and Daring swords, he noticed their swords that seemed unique compared to the ones that he gave to the others.
"Sorry Mr. Duncan, I have a refurl for me to use my family's sword."
He explained of the sword in his possession as Duncan took an examination of Daring's sword to see it was forged by numerous dwarves out of his home's finest metal. He also saw the refurl that allowed him permission to use it, Adam however didn't have one as Duncan kept a calm look when he looked at the prince's blade.
"Apologies prince Adam. You have to put the sword to the side and use the class issued swords."
Duncan stated to him as Adam understood and placed his sword near the benches as he grabbed the practice sword. The two boys soon engaged in a sparring session as they each practiced on blocking and avoiding strikes on vital parts of the body. While Adam focused protecting himself, Daring was messing with the Prince as he could tell Adam wasn't as skillful with a sword like he was.
"Supposedly we're going be friends once we write our names in the book of legends and become kings. Just hope that Raven signs her name so we can move forward already."
Daring explained to his opponent how due to him and Apple becoming a future couple along ruling their kingdom together, he would work with Adam to maintain the peace in both kingdoms. What took him off was bringing up Raven since it had seem her question about not signing her name in the book caused much commotion within the school.
"I'm not exactly up to date with how things work here, I think we need to let her figure it out since apparently she's going be a villain."
Responding back to Daring on the concept of how it easy it was write their life away and turn it into something else. Which in Raven's case wasn't good for her due to that she'd be despised by everyone for what she'll eventually do to Apple and be outcasted from everyone around her. It didn't convince Daring as he took the response from Adam to put him in a stand still as they tried to see which of them would fall.
"Come on. I bet she'll enjoy it, have hundreds of evil minions serving her every whim. Have an evil castle for her decorations and become infamous, I don't see the big problem."
He listed numerous things that Raven would get from becoming the new evil queen as it might have mattered to her. More or less to Adam which caused something within him to wake up as he was able to push back and throw Daring over his shoulder and throw him to the ground. The others saw how Adam acted as he himself didn't know what happened, but was quickly taken by surprise from Daring who used his teeth to blind the prince which left him to drop his sword.
"Sorry. But I'm not a fan of anyone who ruins my clothes, especially after I had them washed."
Apologizing for his surprise attack as the second that he was going tap on the arm to end the session. The same reaction that he heard from hearing that Raven should follow the rules left him to disarm Daring quickly and aim the tip of the practice sword towards his neck. The others got surprised by Adam's swordsmanship and how he was capable of moving that fast, it scared the boy as he dropped the sword quickly due to how it wasn't in him to act like that.
"Well done Adam, it seems that sword you have isn't all just for show. Have you been practicing before coming to class?"
Duncan questioned the prince's sudden skill in swordsmanship as Adam shrugged his shoulders at how talented he was with the weapon. His friends noticed it as well and could tell he wasn't an expert, to which one of the birds chirped as it alerted the students that class was over. Putting the swords away and heading back to their dorm rooms, Adam grabbed his sword as he decided to grab something to eat.
"Where'd did that come from? You know the times you could have used that type of skill when you dragged us in that fight with those Karikoni bandits."
Krass spoke out and slapping Adam's back for showing off his skills with a blade which was still much for the prince since he didn't know it was in him. Teela however was suspicious of what he did since she knew him since Adam was a kid and couldn't even spin a sword let alone disarm someone. Whatever Daring said must have affected him to move like that, meaning she'd have to investigate what made him act like a different person.
Night Time-Girls Dorm rooms
With the day ending and everyone retreating to bed to prepare for the next day, Raven had come back to her room where she had felt tired from the classes she had done today. Heading over to her bed to rest properly, the purple haired girl heard the sound of humming from the side as Apple entered possibly having a wonderful day.
"Hey Apple."
Raven greeted her which spooked Apple due to not seeing her most of the day as her personality changed due to what's been happening lately. Keeping her self composed and walking to her side of the room, Apple began to get into her pajamas and tried to not make the atmosphere in the room uncomfortable.
"Did something happen today? I mean it's regularly not since everyone enjoys seeing you walk around with that warm smile of yours."
She asked if Apple was alright but more to the point that the princess wasn't concern for herself but for Raven's sake due to the drama she brought up yesterday. Deciding to have a conversation about this, she pats on her bed to invite Raven over so she could talk to her roommate.
"Raven. You know I'm glad that you're my roommate and my ever after friend, second to Briar since we grew up together while you were surrounded by your mom's evil minions. No offense."
Apple started the conversation off as being friends with Raven and was glad to spend the semester with her. The girl was confused by where this was going since it felt personal and appeared to be somewhat of an intervention. Quickly seeing how Raven was reacting to the conversation, Apple had to try not to frighten her about what she said the other day during the practice ceremony.
"But when I was growing up I had trouble with dealing with one becoming queen of my mother's kingdom. Which is pretty exciting but involves responsibility, much like you with being the new evil queen."
She brought up a personal thing from her childhood of being told that she'd take up Snow White's duties as the future queen while Raven took her mother's role. Doing her best to not say anything that could start an argument and respond back at not signing the book, Raven kept calm and allowed Apple to continue speaking.
"We all have to do things for our Ever After destinies. Just know until then, we can hang out as friends."
Offering to support her until Legacy Day arrives Raven merely nodded her head in response to Apple as the future queen hugged Raven to help assure her that it wouldn't be terrible. With that said, the two girls decided to hit the bed and try to sleep for tomorrow's classes. Raven on the other hand was gripping her blanket to the point where her eyes glowed violet which resulted in the window by her wall making a crack which showed that she had Evil Queen's magic. Apple noticed it a slowly smiled seeing it was a sign that Raven would have great power once she signed her name in the book, though Raven felt unsure of what to expect when Legacy Day came. Right outside of the dorm room was Keldor who was taking the time to study the villainy between Eternia and the enchanted kingdom of their crimes and acts that made them infamous. Specifically, the Evil Queen since unlike the magic users in Eternia, she could manipulate magic without the need for any items or weapons to use her magic.
"There has to be something that could have rivaled even the queen's power. But what?"
Speaking to himself as the one source of magic that could rival hers and possibly the enchanted kingdom was the ancients, but they had long since passed when the dark forces were pushed back. Continuing to search through the pages, he heard that scuffling from the trees as Keldor looked up and threw a rock towards the branches. Falling in front of him was a girl with cat ears hissing toward Keldor due to knocking her out of the tree.
"What's the big idea? Can't a cat get a proper nap in a tree?"
She questioned Keldor as he looked at her bag to see several notepads with notes about her fellow students. Displaying a questionable look toward the feline student, she merely smiled innocently since she was doing more than taking a nap.
"Spare me the innocent act, Kitty. I've heard about you being involved in spying on people, including interesting gossip about what happens within the school."
Keldor recognizing the feline girl as the daughter of the Chesire Cat from Wonderland. Deciding to lose the innocent act and smile towards him on how clever he was to figure her identity out; she decided to lose the innocent act and go to her usual personality of being cunning and mischievous.
"Can't blame a cat for being curious about goes on at school. Especially this morning about what Adam did when he humiliated Daring at gym."
She responded to him and pulled out her phone showing a video of Adam disarming the future enchanted king and showing off his skill with a sword. Keldor was confused by the display since he wasn't this trained with any weapon, even anything it would be Teela who would have been the one to humiliate Daring if given the chance.
"I guess I'm not the only one who's curious about what's going here. Hope I don't see you doing anything, suspicious."
Kitty said with a grin before disappearing in front of him leaving Keldor frustrated at the display of her own unique magic. This left him to figure out how Adam was able to portray that set of swordsmanship and get on the same level as everyone who had magic, which was mastered his own style of magic without losing the rest of his body at the same time.
