Months after they defeated Pitch, the Guardians as well as their newest member were in a daily repeating rhythm of mundane every-day ordinary. Which meant it was very notable when something or someone didn't follow the rhythm. Like when Jack was late to a meeting. When he did came an hour late, he said, "Sorry! There was a blizzard in Maine that gave me issues."

To the guardian's surprise, Bunny answered, "I don't get why ya bother with these, seeing that you're late because of this."

"What do you mean?", asked Jack as he landed at their table. Elves came to him, carrying shoes.

Bunny continued, "Ya season is useless! You should focus on your guardian duties!"

"What duties? Since Pitch is gone, there are no real guardian duties! You and North only focus on your holidays, and Tooth, Sandy and I on our all-year work.", countered Jack. "Not to mention, if one of my duties is useless, then the guardianship! Seasons are needed for earth to exist, while the planet could survive without you."

He saw how the guardians became offended at this, but no one argued that. Toothiana even said, "We can't argue that..."

"Pff! Winter needed? Your season only brings death!", claimed Bunny. "Or does this planet require death?"

"It does. Also, you say that as if the other seasons don't bring death! Summer and its wild fires as an example or spring and its allergy related deaths.", said Jack to Bunny.

Bunny growled, which motivated Tooth to interfere before these two fight again. She said, flying and zapping between the two, "Guys! Calm down, we need to start with the meeting! Jack, Bunny didn't mean it, right Bunny?"

"Oh, he did mean it! Bunny won't have said this otherwise! And that is okay!", answered Jack, flying into the air himself, slightly floating as elves tried to force him into shoes.

"Eh? Wait, what?", asked Bunny, having not expected that answer.

"Well, my season does have the highest kill count under the seasons. Because of this, I am somewhat close to the Deathlings.", explained Jack, "In fact they consider me a honorary death spirit." He then clapped his hands and white angelic wings spread from his body.

Toothiana instantly flew to his side and took a closer look at his wings. "Oh, they are so pretty! They are nearly as white as your teeth, Jack!"

"Not as pretty as the black wings of real Deathlings.", claimed Jack. "Being a Deathling is also more important than being a guardian."

Bunny looked at him warily. He then asked carefully, "Does that mean ya killed a kid at some point."

"First of all, Deathlings don't actively kill. We just guide the souls of the dying to the afterlife.", clarified Jack. "But yes... kinda bound to in this profession.", he admitted, "Not proud of this, but I have no control over who dies. Heck, most spirits die themselves before becoming spirits. You four being an expectation."

"Guys...", said Tooth, wanting to get going with the meeting. The following meeting was awkward as the guardians are wary around Deathlings. Learning that their newest member was one came as quite a shock to them. Even if Jack is just a honorary one.

After the meeting concluded, Bunny and Tooth felt the urge to follow Jack. Out of curiosity. At least on Toothiana's part, who had an easier time to follow Jack as she could fly while Bunny was restricted to his tunnels. Which means Toothiana was the first one of the two to see that Jack met up with Moisoi, the spirit of illness and ailments. Like Jack, another honorary Deathling, albeit most spirits forget he is just honorary. His face is a mask of a plague doctor and his body is a shadowy rope. It seems he is just fabric and a mask flying in the air, like a Dementor from the Harry Potter series. Toothiana froze in the air when she saw Moisoi.

Moisoi and Jack landed at Jack's lake, allowing Bunny to watch them as well. It became soon clear that he and Jack are friends. Moisoi then pointed the two Guardians out to Jack, who wasn't too impressed to be spied on. "Seriously?! Why are you two following me?!"

Moisoi sighed. "I better take my leave. I can sense the plague makes a return in Afghanistan." With that, he flew into the air, leaving the three Guardians alone.

"Anyway, I assume you're curious about my, eh, side job?", he asked.

Bunny said, "Well, not curious, but..."

"Well... I can sense that the Deathlings need me for something, so... I guess you can follow me and watch?", offered Jack. He the added slightly angered, "But don't you dare to complain to me about my duties!"

With that, the three spirits made their way to a house in Burgess. A bigger building had collapsed, due to the heavy snow this season. As they came closer, Jack spread his wings and his staff froze, ice turning it into a scythe. Bunny slightly flinched at that, being reminded of Pitch, who used a scythe.

As Toothiana and Bunny watched from afar, Jack flew into the building, only to return seconds later with two glowing children. Ghosts.

The two ghost children were scared, they could see that for sure. They couldn't hear what he said, but they saw Jack talking to the two and that he made a snowflake. One of the ghosts played with it. Jack and the ghosts flew to the sky. The higher they flew, the more transparent the children became and their glow diminished, leaving this world to the afterlife. The afterlife is a mystery to all spirits, as they would never get to see it. When the two were gone, Jack let himself to the air, before spanning his wings to land and fetch the next pair of ghosts. Tooth and Bunny then saw that other Deathlings arrived at the scene. Unlike Jack, these dark figures gave them the creeps.

"Oi, I see Jack told you? Mm.", said a voice from behind, jumping the guardians. They turned around and laughed. He was a Deathling. Black wings, dark cloak like Moisoi but no mask. Instead a pale and hollow face. "You know, he interacted more with kids then you, Guardians of childhood. He is a great help with ghost children, whose are understandably afraid of us." He then added after a bit of thinking, "I doubt any of you would join us?"

"Killian! Stop, these two are already overworked enough!", said Jack as he flew to them, two children – twin girls – on his sides. "All guardians for that matter."

"Well, I take from here then.", said Killian and flew to the building.

"Whoa, the Easter bunny!", said one of the girls.

"And the tooth fairy!", added the second girl.

"Come girls, heaven is waiting for you two.", said Jack and guided them to the sky. With them gone, he returned to the two.

"Is heaven real?", asked Toothiana.

"No, but I see no point in arguing with Christians before they pass over.", said Jack, rolling his eyes. "I should know, I used to be Christian in my first live."

"Right. You were a pioneer. Puritan, right?", asked Tooth.

"Mm.", confirmed Jack. He noted Bunny stared to the ground. "Bunny, is something wrong?"
"I... I am sorry for insulting your job, namely the Deathling stuff.", said Bunny, "You aren't killing kids. You're calming down in what must be a nightmarish situation!"

"Exactly. Don't get me started when they don't realize they died.", said Jack.

"Huh?!" Toothiana asked, "People don't realize they died? Is that common?"
"It is! And hella annoying to deal with.", said Jack.
