It's been awhile but we're finally here at chapter thirty! I am having a lot of fun writing this fanfic and I hope you all are enjoying it. I will be redoing my other two stories soon as well. I want to give them the same amount of love that I give this one too.
Chapter 30: Demon Slayer Mark
Izuku stared at the older woman in confusion at what she asked. He tried to get up quickly to look in the mirror but fell back into bed as his body ached all over. Recovery Girl tried to keep him down but he stubbornly sat up again. She can see the confusion on his face and went over to her desk to get a hand mirror. Once she hands the object to him, he quickly looks at his face in curiosity.
'W-what the hell? It looks like a tattoo of...'
On the left side of Izuku's forehead is a pattern of what looks like swirling vines with leaves. The mark is a shade of green a little darker than his hair. One vine goes down to about half his cheek and has a few leaves on it, while one swirls on his forehead with more leaves, and a final vine is above his eye with less leaves on it. He touches the mark and notes that it feels like it's normal flesh but a bit warmer. After feeling the mark he suddenly feels something strange about his body.
He feels like he weighs less than a feather and has way more energy than normal. His body still aches and is in pain but the change is still noticeable. Recovery Girl takes the mirror back and sits on her chair again waiting for his response. Izuku looks at his hands and sees the new blisters forming on the old ones and shakes his head to clear his mind.
"I don't know what this mark is, but it may be part of my quirk. My ability keeps changing depending on the circumstances."
After he said that, the memory of what happened at the flood zone comes back to him. He remembers that when Tsuyu pulled him out of the water he tried to fire bend, but instead he pulled up a wave of water. Then he remembers what happened in the transparent world. He looks at his hands hands as he takes in a steady breath and exhales carefully. Small balls of fire ignite in both of his hands making him nod. After snuffing the flames out he holds up his left arm and flexes it while letting out another steady breath.
Green and blue electricity travel up and down his arm with loud zaps. Recovery Girl watches with an interested expression. Izuku cut the flow and flexed his hand out a bit with a sigh. He looks at the elder hero and thinks of the new ability he gained.
"Can you get me a cup of water, please?"
-Later at Midoriya Apartment-
Izuku stood in front of the bathroom mirror examining the mark on his forehead. The shape of the mark is what confuses him. Inko nearly fainted when she saw the vines on his head and cheek. He told her that it appeared while fighting the monster called Nomu. It took a moment but Inko started to remember that Hisashi had a flame like mark on his forehead.
"Maybe it's from your father's side of the family. He had a red flame like mark on the side of his forehead."
Inko says entering the bathroom with fresh bandages. Izuku's arms, chest, and legs have minor cuts and bruises, but he still can't remember how he got them. More of his memory came back, but it only goes up to when Tsuyu pulled him away from the Nomu. He remembers the burning feeling on his forehead and face and wonders if that's when the mark appeared. There's also the strange boost of energy in his body that wasn't there before.
"Was dad unusually strong for someone who only had a fire breathing quirk?"
The question shocks Inko because she and Hisashi made extra sure to hide his super human abilities. She doesn't say anything at first, but nods after a minute. Izuku looks at her with a serious expression and points at his forehead.
"What is dad's real quirk? It can't just be fire breathing because that and your quirk shouldn't make mine."
Inko is confused at the question but she understands how he feels. She too is curious as to how Izuku's quirk can control multiple elements now. That's not even counting his access to the transparent world to train more. Inko only lowers her head and walks over to her son to hug him. He hugs her back tightly and does his best to remember how it feels. He so badly wants to tell her that his father, her husband didn't defeat all the demons but be couldn't.
After Izuku got bandaged up he decided that it would be best to tell Iroh and Rengoku what happened. He had to also tell Rengoku that he broke his sword and doesn't even remember how. After packing his training back and taking his father's sword, he goes into the kitchen. He makes a quick sandwich and lets Inko know where he's going. The first stop is at the Jasmine Dragon because he needs some of Iroh's tea to calm down.
The journey was uneventful except for the multiple text messages from Kyoka. Izuku blushed at remembering that the punk girl was something he thought about before he almost died. He made sure to tell her that he is okay and to check up on her as well. He is glad to hear that she is okay and thankful that she had Yaoyorozu and Kaminari with her to help.
"How you do Izuku, long time no- whoa!"
Iroh greeted Izuku but jumped when he saw the boy's face. Izuku waves at the old man nervously with a small wince of a smile. Iroh gestures to the bar table and lets out a long sigh. Izuku takes a seat and takes some fruit from the counter to snack on. The older man goes behind the bar and starts to make a special brew of tea.
"I'm guessing that the incident at the school was pretty bad."
Izuku looks at the man while stuffing his mouth with a pear. He doesn't say anything at first and looks away. Taking a moment to chew and swallow the fruit he lets out a shakey breath.
"There was a demon that was in the group of villains that attacked."
Izuku said with a far away look on his face as he remembers Shigaraki. Iroh nearly drops the tea kettle while pouring the tea at hearing that. Izuku then pulls up his training bag and takes out the two pieces of his sword. The man lets out a low whistle at seeing the broken blade. He finishes pouring the tea and places a cup in front of the boy.
"Did the demon hurt anyone and were you able to slay it?"
The question catches Izuku off guard as he didn't think of that. Thanks to him, Tsuyu was able to keep her face from falling apart. He also managed to help get Aizawa away from the Nomu. The image of Aizawa's broken body flashes through his head and shocks him. Because of his plan, he put Tsuyu and Mineta in danger.
"I put a couple of my classmates in danger while saving our teacher. I couldn't have gotten him out of their on my own, but they were almost really hurt."
The old man nods as he strokes his beard in thought and sips his tea. Izuku takes a sip of his own tea and savors the taste. Iroh takes another sip and puts his cup down.
"You acted when no one else was around to do so. You became a leader and managed to keep your team safe."
Izuku looks at the man with a surprised expression and gasp. He knows that he was able to keep Tsuyu safe but it took longer than necessary. Mineta also hurt himself overusing his quirk and making his head bleed. Iroh places a hand on the boy's shoulder and gives him a warm smile.
"You forget that they also want to be heroes, and to be a hero means to risk your life to save someone."
Izuku's eyes widen at what his mentor's words mean in reality. He's not the only person who has the drive to be a great hero. The greenette gulps down the rest of his tea and slams his cup down, careful not to break it. He points to his forehead with an annoyed look and glares at the older man.
"Don't think I didn't see that look on your face when you saw me. You know something about it, so please tell me."
Iroh takes a moment to examine the vine mark on his head and shrugs. He places the cup of tea down and motions for Izuku to follow him. They both go into the office where Iroh keeps important papers and equipment. The older man opens a couple drawers while looking around. After a minute he finds a scroll that looks like it's been through some better days.
"If the legends about the corp are true then that mark is your demon slayer mark. From what I've heard, it appears in battle when you survive life threatening conditions."
Izuku thinks back to when he thinks the mark appeared. The memory is foggy but he does recall seeing the Nomu break Aizawa's arm and feeling overheated. He looks at the scroll that Iroh gave him and gasps at the drawings. There are multiple people that have the demon slayer uniforms on and different nichirin weapons. But what catches his attention the most is the people who have different marks on their face.
"Would Rengoku know more about these marks? He comes from a long line of demon slayers."
Iroh nods in thought as he puts the scroll back into the drawer. They both go back to the table and see students arriving to the dojo. Izuku sits down while Iroh pours more tea in both their cups. He looks at the broken sword and sighs sady.
"I apologize for breaking the sword that Zuko used. I know it's very important to you."
The man gives him a raised eyebrow before letting out a chuckle. Izuku is confused at the reaction and looks at the older man. Iroh places a hand on his shoulder and gives a gentle squeeze.
"I'm sure that Zuko would be proud to know that it was broken while protecting people. I know I'm proud."
Izuku smiles at the words and drinks more of the tea finally feeling better. They talked for a little longer before Izuku decided that it's time to visit Rengoku. They both bow to each other respectfully and Izuku leaves the tea shop with a sprint. As he runs to the Rengoku estate he thinks about the demon he saw at the U.S.J. Shigaraki knew he was attacking a class of heroes in training and brought the man power to do so. Not only that but he also had that thing called Nomu.
He soon finds himself standing outside the gate of the Rengoku estate. He pushes the buzzer and after a moment the gate opens. Taking a deep breath, he walks to the house with a lag in his steps. He can see Rengoku and Kyan practicing with her quirk in the yard. Once the man notices he's there, he turns to Kyan and says something he can't hear. Kyan runs inside the house and Rengoku let's out a gasp when he sees Izuku's face clearly.
"You got the mark?! How is that possible?"
The look on Rengoku's face is full of shock and something else... interest? Izuku looks at the man and takes out the two pieces of his sword. Rengoku takes the two pieces of the sword and lets them fall to the ground. Izuku is surprised as the man pulls him into a tight and gentle hug. Rengoku looks at Izuku with sad eyes and leads him into the house. They sit in the living room and Izuku looks at the wall with all the swords on it.
"There was an attack on my class the other day. A large number of villains invaded a hero class exercise. Something happened to me and now I can manipulate water. There was a big monster that nearly killed my home room teacher-"
Izuku started to breath heavily as his talking got faster in the end of the sentence. Rengoku was next to him in a red flash with a hand on his back. The man didn't say anything as he only looked at him with large eyes. Izuku's own eyes fill with tears as the walls he put up finally break. He cries loudly as Rengoku wraps an arm around the boy.
"It's okay lad, let it out. We of the corp always forget that we have fears and emotions."
The thought of dying or seeing one of his classmates or teachers die didn't register till he started talking. He was also trying to stay strong for his mother so she wouldn't freak out. Rengoku doesn't say anything and just let's him release his pent up emotions. After some time Izuku calms down and sits back to look at the man again with questioning eyes. He points to the mark on his forehead and then his chest.
"What is this mark and why do I have it? My body feels like it's stronger than before and My body tempature isn't normal."
Rengoku takes a moment to examine Izuku's mark and nods thoughtfully. He points to the wall with all the swords on it making Izuku look at them.
"It's called a demon slayer mark and it is truly difficult to manifest. It is an ability that boosts the speed, strength, and senses of the individual who manifests it. But there has only ever been three people who have been able to maintain it constantly. You are now number four."
Izuku nods but is still confused on how he was able to manifest one. He wonders if it's because the demons aren't truly gone. The sound of the front door opening and closing makes both of them look up. Satori and Kyan enter the living room and smile when they see Izuku. Both give surprised looks at seeing Izuku's marked forehead. Satori quickly covers up a look of sorrow and replaces it with shock. Izuku doesn't pay it much mind, figuring that it has something to do with how it's manifested.
"Izuku, there's something that I have to tell you about the mark."
We made it to chapter thirty ya'll! I hope that everyone likes the design of the demon slayer mark that I gave Izuku. I can't wait for the twist I'll put on it with his bending skills. Also I will be working on the new version of the spiderman fanfiction.
