AU, alternate universe, World War II was in 2019-2023.

The rays of the autumn sun were brightly flooding Los Angeles. A girl of about twenty-seven walked confidently down the street. Her black hair was cut into a neat bob, and her brown eyes looked straight and bold.

Her name was Anastasia Steele, and she was a captain in the Los Angeles police department. She was on her way to work, checking her phone for messages. 10 from her mother.

Anastasia rolled her eyes. She was an adult, damn it! No, Anastasia understood Carla Steele perfectly well, who had sent her daughter from rainy Seattle to sunny California. But Ana was an experienced operative and an accomplished person. And her mother had to take that into account.

Entering the police station, Ana greeted the security guard, Erwin Smith, as usual and went up to her office.

- Steele! - At the entrance to the office, the girl was intercepted by Kate Kavanagh, her best friend and intern.

"Hi," Ana smiled. "What again?"

"Colonel Roach is calling you," Kate said guiltily. "Something about yesterday's raid on the Uchiha gang."

Anastasia rolled her eyes. Jerry Roach was a seasoned veteran who knew everything, or almost everything, about criminal investigation. He was like a second father to Ana. But that didn't stop him from constantly scolding Miss Steele for no reason.

"Steel, why did you run into the bullets?" Roach was pacing around the office.

- What should I do - sit with papers? You know yourself that after all the events, crime is off the charts, - Ana calmly withstood the chief's gaze.

- Agreed! The survivors, the spies... But you just graduated from the police academy. What will I tell Karla if you get wounded? - the colonel grumbled.

"I'm resilient, you know," Ana chuckled.

Roach sighed heavily.

- You're the best in the class. But your methods are... radical. Bringing in trainee Kavanagh! And Hyde! Who's a notorious pickpocket! - Roach was angry.

"Jack was sitting underground, gassed. He risked himself more than once!" the brunette objected.

- I agree with him! But he's a thief, a criminal element. And Kavanagh is just here trying to escape her parents who want to marry her off to Elliot Gray. She's not a cop, she's a model! Keep that in mind! - Roach continued to swear.

- She's worth ten experienced cops, she shoots straight and fights like hell! The gang was caught, no one died! Everything went well! - Ana jumped up and immediately grabbed her heart.

"Ana, your heart is playing up. And you're only twenty-seven. Be careful," Roach said.

Anastasia nodded and left the colonel's office.

"Steel," the girl was stopped in the evening as she was leaving the police station by Jack Hyde, her friend and the number one pickpocket in Los Angeles.

"Jack, you shouldn't be hanging around here," Ana sighed. "You got me in trouble."

- Sorry, but I can't not help you. You saved me once. And Roach will have to accept the fact that I'm a coward here, - Jack grinned. - So, are we going home?

Ana nodded. The friends waited for Kavanagh and went towards a plain house in one of the courtyards. This house had survived bombing, air raids and air strikes by the Germans. Thanks to the efforts of the house's inhabitants, it was quickly restored.

- Just look at him, huh? He's dressed like he's going to the Costume Institute Ball. Eren, are you prepared for the seminar? - A graying brunette stood at one of the entrances and looked at her student son.

"Eren is off to his Ackerman again," laughed Kavanagh.

Eren, noticing the three friends, smiled at them. His mother, Carla, also smiled, briefly stopping her arguing.

"Miss Steele, Kate, Jack, and I've baked some cheese pies. Will you come in?" Carla asked.

"Aunt Carla, later," Anastasia waved it off.

After saying goodbye to Jack and Kate, Ana entered her building and went up to her room.

The apartment greeted her with silence and calm. The girl took off her shoes and, after taking a shower, went to bed.
