Deathstroke The Terminator snuck into the house, his enhanced vision allowing him to see clearly despite it being the middle of the night. His footsteps were quieter than a dead man, which should have been considered impossible given his enormous, massive build and heavy armor.
However, he was not just anyone.
He was the most dangerous and lethal mercenary in the world and he was fucking pissed off and full of overprotective paternal instincts that filled every fiber of his being. At that moment he was much more dangerous and scarier than he normally was, a single goal running through his mind.
Make the whore who dared to hurt my son pay.
The super soldier reached the bedroom without any problems. He silently opened the door enough to slip into the room and his gaze fell on the sleeping figure on the bed. His super hearing confirmed that her heartbeat was constant and that she was therefore fast asleep, completely unaware of the menacing figure looming over her.
Silently Deathstroke walked around the bed and observed the woman for a few more seconds, his chest boiling with anger at all the pain she inflicted on his son. His hand shot out and pinned the woman by the throat. She started making strangled noises as her brown eyes snapped open. Slade watched with satisfaction as her face paled in fear as she saw him as well as her heart rate skyrocketing.
"Sweet dreams, bitch."
The mercenary struck her with a ferocious punch in the face, sending her into the world of unconsciousness. He injected her neck with a sedative that would keep her unconscious for the next few hours and grabbed her body, carrying her like a sack of potatoes and regardless of whether he slammed her into several pieces of furniture as he left the house.
"There he is!"
Cheshire's excited whisper made Wonder Woman's gaze snap to the side just in time to see Deathstroke abruptly throw Amanda Waller's unconscious form to the ground. She looked with grim satisfaction at her broken nose and upper lip, trails of blood running from both, and dark bruises ringing her eyes and throat.
Talia turned to some of her men from the League of Assassins. "Put her into the car and take her to the appointed place."
They bowed briefly but respectfully and immediately carried out her order. Wonder Woman nodded in satisfaction once the car drove off with the assassin ninjas and an unconscious Amanda Waller.
It made sense that Slade would be the one to sneak into Waller's house since he's the stealthiest and quietest out of all of us.
"Now the second part of the plan." she stated solemnly out loud, getting nods.
The assassins and the two superheroines stood on a hill that gave them a full view of the looming structure of the A.R.G.U.S. maximum security prison placed meters and meters away from them.
Katana glanced at Zatanna and nodded. "Your turn."
The sorceress nodded back and took a deep breath. "Oediv kcabdeef pool rof foor saremac!"
It had been Slade's idea to disable the roof cameras by tampering with the same video feedback loop as the guards walking on the roof instead of turning them off because, in the latter case, the security people would notice and they would screw their plan.
Zatanna later spread her hands in the direction of the assassins while Wonder Woman visibly moved away from them. Her eyes were still illuminated with a white light while her hands were still surrounded by a white aura, signs of her previous spell. "Tropelet meht ot eht nosirp foor!"
Wonder Woman watched as a blinding white light covered the figures of Deathstroke, Katana, Talia, Lady Shiva and Cheshire and, when it was gone, so were they. She held out an arm which Zatanna grasped firmly with both hands and the demigoddess took flight. She remained suspended in mid-air at a safe distance from the prison roof and the two superheroines watched with genuine fascination as the teamwork carried out by the five assassins, particularly among the women, as they knocked out the guards. They had both learned that Renegade had completed many missions on behalf of the League of Assassins working with Cheshire, Lady Shiva, Katana and sometimes even Talia herself while Deathstroke was more of a lone wolf. Their movements were fluid and oily and together the five assassins formed an unstoppable machine, a sign of years of teamwork improved over time until reaching total perfection.
Only Renegade is missing and they would form the most lethal and dangerous team in the world.
It took little time for the assassins to knock down the guards and Diana waited for Talia's confirming nod before descending onto the roof, barely feeling Zatanna's strong grip on her arm. She landed on the ground and the sorceress moved away from her.
"Wonder Woman, here!"
The Amazon came alongside Cheshire in a few seconds and looked down, encountering the extremely resistant material with which the roof had been built. "Are you sure that's the point?"
Jade confirmed with a nod. "100%."
Zatanna smiled. "Good, my turn again." she spread her arms and her eyes began to glow white. "Lla smrala detavitcaed!" and after turning off every alarm, because she wasn't finished yet: "Lla ytiruces sdraug ni siht nosirp: llaf peelsa!"
The only reason Zatanna didn't cast the spell that would put all the prison guards to sleep sooner was because the assassins wanted to kick some of their asses. The two superheroines had exchanged an amused look and simultaneously shook their heads and silently agreed that Renegade had taken his little shit attitude back from them.
Or he was the one who had infected them with his little shit attitude.
It was probably the latter.
Diana looked up briefly to glance at her allies. "Everyone move aside, otherwise you risk falling."
While the others followed her order she looked back at the ground.
That same afternoon they discovered that Sasha Bordeaux's office was located under a specific part of the roof. Although it was written that the structure was built with materials so strong that even Superman wouldn't be able to destroy it, well, that was bullshit.
There was no material that Superman couldn't destroy, and even if there was, it definitely wasn't present on Earth.
Superman's strength was immeasurable and Wonder Woman's could rival his, which is why she could destroy that roof with little effort.
Before doing so, however, the princess of Themyscira glanced at Zatanna and the sorceress nodded. The seventeen-year-old's hands glowed white as she extended them toward the hundred-year-old woman and the portion of the roof to be destroyed. "Tnelis!"
Wonder Woman cracked her knuckles and with a single ferocious punch slammed the roof beneath her. It immediately gave way under her superhuman strength but, thanks to Zatanna's spell, no sound of destruction rang out. She began to levitate and float in mid-air as the material beneath her feet disintegrated. She immediately went down and landed on the ground in front of Sasha Bordeaux completely shocked by her presence. Before the human can make a single move Diana grabbed her lasso and wrapped it around the A.R.G.U.S. director, immobilizing her and pulling her towards her until she fell at her feet, wounding her with the debris of what was left of the roof .
She felt her allies land beside her but her gaze remained fixed on the prison warden. "You will pay dearly both for the living hell you forced Renegade to go through and for threatening my teammates to reveal their civilian identities to the entire world, endangering not only them but above all their loved ones." Diana stated in a low, menacing voice, her blue eyes shining with cold fury.
Sasha gulped at her fury but put on a defiant look. "What stops me from shouting for my guards?"
"Oh, I don't know." Zatanna pretended to be confused and perplexed but her smirk of dark satisfaction betrayed her. "The fact that they're all taking a nap. Literally. You can thank magic for that."
"And don't think you can count on Waller." Lady Shiva gave her a toothy shark grin. "She's quite indisposed at the moment."
The director turned pale at her words. "W-What did you do to her?" she let out a growl in an attempt to remain threatening but it turned out to be the opposite.
Talia giggled, a flash of satisfaction and cold joy crossing her green eyes. "She has good company with some of my men. Don't worry: we will take care of both you and her later."
Bordeaux growled and her eyes shifted to the two superheroines, a flash of fury passing through her. "Why the hell are you heroes helping the best assassins in the world? What kind of heroes are you?"
Wonder Woman bent down, looming menacingly over her and fixing her with her deadliest, most dangerous gaze. "Because you willfully hurt a friend of mine who is one of the best people on Earth. Your and Waller's goal was to break Renegade in the most brutal and inhumane ways possible and that is unacceptable. You two deserve every single thing my allies will do to you." she finished with a ferocious snarl, grinning dangerously as she noticed a shiver of terror run down the woman's spine and she paled further.
"What will the entire world and the rest of the Justice League think when they see two of the best heroes helping the world's most dangerous assassins and helping the world's current second-best mercenary escape?" Sasha challenged them, not wanting to give up without putting up her best fight first.
"What will the whole world think if it ever finds out that the US government violates the fundamental international rights of human beings by planting bombs in the heads of criminals and sending them on practically suicidal missions on behalf of the government itself?" the Amazon promptly retorted.
Sasha stiffened but remained silent, staring at the seven menacing figures with an irritated look behind which, however, hid the true fear and terror she was feeling at that moment.
Before anyone could say anything else Deathstroke tensed and his gaze moved towards the door. "Someone is out of the office." he grunted, glaring at the door as if he could destroy it with just a thought.
The rescue team's attention focused on the door and they waited with bated breath, all of them in fighting positions. A few seconds of tense silence passed when suddenly the door was opened and abruptly closed again in the space of not even a full second.
Wonder Woman's eyes widened in shock and her mouth opened in such shock that the lasso almost slipped from her fingers.
Almost. She was much better trained than that.
She heard her allies make sounds of utter surprise, shock and amazement that mirrored her own and Diana was happy that she wasn't the only one at risk of a cerebral aneurysm.
Because there, in front of them all, was the target of their rescue mission himself, just as surprised to see them as they were to see him.
Renegade.
