Something More?: A Pokemon Story
Episode 6- Cerulean City: Part One- The Conversation
At the end of the last episode, Misty returns to the surprise of Ash and Brock, and someone she hasn't met yet, Serena.
"Hey, Ash, how's it going?"
"Doing fine, how about you?"
"Trying to make the gym work, you know how many sisters are."
"Fair point."
"Brock, how about you?"
"Still trying to find the love of my life, but so far, no luck."
"My ear pulling still haunting you then, huh?"
"Not only that, but I've got this Pokemon to do that job. Croagunk, come on out!"
"Croa."
"What does Croagunk do?"
"It uses Poison Jab on my kidney, then drags me out back."
"What does it do after that?"
"Gives me a talking to, literally."
"Nice job Croagunk. I don't think we've met. I'm Misty."
"Serena's the name. Nice to meet you too."
"How do you know Ash and Brock."
"Brock, I met him, and his brothers and sisters, mom and dad, in Pewter City. Ash, it's a long story. Too long to talk now."
"Fair enough, we'll talk later. Right now, let's go to the gym."
"Let's go."
The trio and Misty go the the Cerulean Gym, where Serena is shocked.
"The gym is like a swimming pool. It's a water type gym obviously."
"Been around for ages. Are you taking on the gyms?"
"I'm not. I am the Pokemon Contests around Kanto. First one is here is 3 days."
"Nice. Have you done any other Contests in other regions?"
"Hoenn and Sinnoh. Contests are amazing. I was originally a Pokemon Performer in Kalos."
"Oh yeah, I remember seeing you on TV. You almost defeated Aria in the Master Class to become Kalos Queen."
"True, but I'm not ashamed about it."
"Sounds like you took the loss is stride, something Ash ain't too great at."
"Why take a jab at me? That's unnecessary."
"I'm just playing, Ash."
"Anyway, how's the gym, Misty?"
"It's doing fine, Brock. My sisters still try to hand out badges for fun, but I'm more aware about it. I stop it almost every time."
"Good job."
"Well, here comes the trio of terror."
"Hey, sis."
"What do you want?"
"Can we still hand out gym badges for free?"
"I told you no, you can't just hand out badges for free. It's unethical as a gym as for me as a gym leader."
"But we can be gym leaders in the interim."
"Not registered. If you hand out gym badges for free and the committee finds out, I'm on the hook for the gym shutting down."
"Okay, okay, was just asking."
"Don't ask again!"
"They're going to ask, everytime Misty, you know that."
"I know, and I should stop, but they always seem to get on my nerves somehow."
"You know, Ash, I want to get to know Misty some more. How about you and Brock go around and explore the city again."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, absolutely."
"Alright, let's go Brock."
"Right behind you."
"Alright, Misty, let's talk in a room, away from your sisters."
"Good idea."
Serena and Misty go to a private room away from the main gym. For context, Ash and Brock don't have a conversation that is important, so I'll leave it out.
"You want something to drink, Serena."
"Lemonade, if you have it."
"Sure."
"So, how do you know Ash, Misty?"
"I accidentally fished him out of a river. He was running away from a horde of Spearow, chasing him for some reason. I ran into him later in Viridian City after his Pikachu was critically injured. We met Team Rocket also in the Pokemon Center. We then travelled around Kanto and Johto, with him battling gyms."
"That must've been fun. How was he back then?"
"Why?"
"I'm his girlfriend."
"Seriously? No way, he's too dense."
"He grew up, he's 25, same age as I am."
"Fair point. Still can't think of Ash being with anybody considering his past."
"True. Anyway, how was he back then?"
"Young, brash, a bit overzealous. When he lost, he got down on himself a little bit, but he would pick himself up rather quickly instead of giving up. Ran into him a few other times after I accompanied him full-time, you know, had to get back to the gym. You know how that is."
"Very true. When I travelled with Ash, we also had another gym leader accompany us. Clemont was his name, he was an interesting character, and a gym leader also."
"How many gym leaders does Ash know? Me, Brock, Cilan, Iris, Clemont, the list goes on."
"He travelled around different regions, bound to travel with other people."
"Got me there. How do you know him?"
"It started out at a summer camp near Pallet Town. I got hurt somehow, I think I tripped, not sure after these many years, but he ran into me randomly, wrapped my knee with has handkerchief, and we walked to the main base, hand-in-hand."
"Sounds like love at first sight for you."
"I had a crush on him after that, so somewhat accurate."
"So when did you run into him next?"
"A couple of years after that. I found out he was in Kalos on TV."
"What happened?"
"He was saving a Garchomp from atop of Prism Tower in Lumiose City. After they saved him, his Pikachu fell off the tower, and in classic Ash fashion, he jumped and caught him. I thought he was going to die, but a Mega Blaziken saved him and transported him to safety. I decided to get my first Pokemon after that, a Fennekin, which is now a fully evolved Delphox, and went to search for him."
"Where did you run into him?"
"Santalune City. He was fighting the gym leader and lost, and seems distraught over it."
"How come?"
"Probably thought that he could win, but didn't. Viola has his number."
"Viola's the gym leader, right?"
"Yeah, she is. Luckily, he was travelling with her older sister in the Orange Islands, and her, Clemont, his sister Bonnie, who is another can of worms, and myself helped him strategize for his rematch, which worked out beautifully."
"Did you travel with originally to be with him, or to return the handkerchief?"
"The latter. He asked if I wanted to come with him to help him out, and I said yes. We reconciled, and travelled again for about a year."
"How was his attitude?"
"A bit more reserved than how you described him, but then again, he grew up. He was also more brave, not really afraid of anything, besides the occasional Beedrill run-in."
"I hate bugs. Hate them."
"Me too, then again, I didn't freak out."
"You're lucky."
"There was one time he got really down on himself after a gym battle loss, and I had to put reality back in him."
"What happened?"
"He lost to Wulfric, an Ice-type gym leader, and one of his Pokemon, a Greninja with this weird battle-sync form, had been defeated, and he didn't know what to do. Greninja had gone far away, and Ash thought that he had failed himself as a trainer. He ran off and I started to get worried. When I tried to tell him about my struggles, he got pissed really quick, telling me how he doesn't know how he feels."
"Yeah, that's not always the best choice when it comes to Ash. Sorry you had to find out."
"Eh, no worries, I'm way over this incident, just recalling my travels with Ash. Anyway, I got pissed at him back, and threw snowballs at him, basically telling him to pull his head out of his ass. I actually told him that he wasn't the same Ash she knew, the Ash that she loved. He managed to differentiate head from ass and apologized. He had a rematch and won."
"Well, damn, you talked sense into him. I would've done the exact thing, but probably meaner."
"Considering the attitude you had with your sisters, I can't imagine."
"So, how did the Kalos League go for him?"
"He was the runner-up, down to his opponent, Alain, and his Mega Charizard against Greninja. It literally came down to the last move. Even though he lost, he didn't get sad or down on himself. Instead, he smiled and vowed to get better. Now, he's a world champion, and he's doing better than ever."
"Before you left for Hoenn and eventually Sinnoh for contests, did you kiss Ash?"
"Damn right. It felt good. Only funny thing was that he looked absolutely dumbfounded after the fact."
"Typical Ash. When you guys meet this last time, did he replicate your feelings?"
"He did, and I happier than ever to be with him."
"Proud of you both."
"Hm, thanks. Tell me, are you with anybody."
"I am, Tracey, Professor Oak's assistant."
"Oh, I met him in Pallet Town. I remember you being mentioned, but only briefly. Tracey isn't far off, you're doing great."
"He doesn't know something, yet."
"Like what?"
Misty puts her hand on her belly.
"You're pregnant?"
"I am!"
"Oh my god! Congratulations!"
"So am I. Planning on telling him tonight."
"I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks. It means a lot."
"How far long?"
"About a month, managed to hide it from Tracey for that long. He's got to know at some point."
"He does. Oh, I hear Ash and Brock are back. Shall you tell them?"
"Yeah, I probably should. That way they're not surprised when you have it."
"Let's go!"
Serena and Misty go out to the main gym area, where Ash and Brock are, and it turns out, they ran into Tracey when they were outside.
"Honey, it's so great to see you."
"Same here, Mist. You seem excited."
"I am. Hey Ash and Brock, I got something to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Well.." puts her hand on her stomach.
"You're pregnant?"
"I am, honey."
"I'm assuming it's mine?"
"Duh."
"I'm so excited."
"Same here."
"Congratulations, Misty."
"Same here."
"Say, Misty, got a question. Want to battle?"
"You know I won't say no to that. How about tomorrow?"
"Sounds good. For now, let's eat and rest."
"Agreed, haven't sleep in a good bit."
"Let's go!"
After everybody is asleep, Serena and Ash are talking quietly in their bedroom.
"Hey, babe?"
"What's up?"
"I kind of what to have a baby one day."
"Same here. I don't think I'm ready right now, though."
"I'm not either. Maybe later."
"Agreed. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
The next morning, Misty and Ash are already on the battlefield, with Tracey as the referee. The three sisters are on one sideline, with Serena and Brock on the other.
"The battle between Ash Ketchum, the challenger, and Misty, the gym leader, is about to begin. Each side will use 3 Pokemon, and substitutions are allowed on both sides. Let the battle begin."
So Misty and Serena actually got along very nicely, and didn't get into an argument. Instead, they bonded very well. However, how will the battle between Ash and Misty go. Find out in the next chapter.
