Chapter 8

--

The trees danced gracefully in the wind. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong wandered through the long grass, hoping to find the other missing Kongs.

Pumpkins were lying around everywhere in the greenery, as if someone had decided this was the perfect place to dump a sack full of the giant orange vegetables. Enormous cliffs could be seen in the distance, standing proudly in the background. The sky was a soft shade of orange as the sun began to set, casting long shadows over the landscape.

"We've been walking for hours!" Diddy complained. "Where are we even going?" "I honestly have no idea," Donkey replied, uncertainty in his voice. "I think if we just keep going forward, we'll eventually find something. Maybe."

"And where has that gotten us?" Diddy snorted, crossing his arms. "Come on, little buddy. Have some faith!" Donkey urged.

"Kinda hard when our island and friends have been enslaved by a bunch of penguins," Diddy grumbled. He kicked a small rock in frustration, watching it tumble through the grass.

After what seemed like another eternity of walking and getting nowhere, the two Kongs decided to stop and rest. They lay down in a patch of grass and looked up at the sky. The first stars were beginning to twinkle above them, tiny dots of light in the growing darkness.

Donkey released a deep sigh. What if we never get home? Just then, a rustling sound came from the bushes nearby. Donkey and Diddy both looked up at the same time.

"You hear that?" Diddy whispered, sitting up. "Yeah," Donkey said cautiously. He slowly got to his feet, muscles tensed. "Be ready for anything."

Before either of them could react, about nine Cheesy Chesters jumped out of nowhere and surrounded them. Their cheesy grins gleamed in the moonlight.

"Oh good! I was hungry!" one of them exclaimed, licking his lips. "I just want to rest! Is that too much to ask for?!" Diddy yelled, throwing his hands up.

The Cheesy Chesters began to close in, their eyes glinting mischievously. One of them lunged forward. Then, a loud noise echoed through the night.

STOMP. STOMP. STOMP.

The ground trembled beneath them. The Cheesy Chesters froze. A massive shadow loomed over the grass. It was Rambi the Rhino!"Rambi!" Donkey cried happily.

With a powerful charge, Rambi barreled straight into the Cheesy Chesters, sending them all flying in different directions. They tumbled through the air, landing in bushes and rolling down hills. The remaining ones stared at Rambi in fear before turning tail and running for their lives.

"That's right! Run, you cowards!" Diddy shouted after them. Donkey Kong patted Rambi on the head. "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle! I didn't expect to see you, Rambi!"

Rambi grunted happily, as if saying, 'I'm so glad you're okay!' "Huh. How did he even get here?" Diddy asked, scratching his head. "Who knows?" Donkey replied with a shrug.

Rambi bent down and wagged his tail, looking up at the Kongs with big, hopeful eyes. "Oh! I think he's offering us a ride!" Donkey realized. "Oh heck yeah!" Diddy said, his exhaustion vanishing in an instant.

The two Kongs hopped onto Rambi's back, barely settling into place before the rhino took off at full speed. "EEK! SLOW DOWN, RAMBI!" Diddy yelped as he clung onto Donkey for dear life.

Rambi didn't slow down. He plowed through massive, hard rocks like they were nothing. He smashed through crates, toppled trees, and bashed into anything that dared stand in his way. His hooves pounded against the ground like a drum, leaving a trail of dust behind them.

They raced through the jungle at breakneck speed, the wind whipping past their faces. The scenery blurred around them as Rambi leaped over small cliffs and bounded across wide gaps like they were tiny hurdles.

Then, up ahead, they spotted something strange. A colossal volcano loomed before them. Its rocky surface was shaped like an owl's face, with glowing eyes that flickered like fire. Smoke billowed from the top, curling into the night sky.

"That's… creepy," Diddy muttered. Rambi skidded to a stop at the base of the volcano, snorting as he surveyed the area. He lowered his head and rammed into a pile of boulders blocking the path, shattering them into pieces. But that turned out to be a mistake.

The moment the rocks broke, the ground rumbled violently. Cracks formed along the volcano's surface. Molten lava bubbled up, glowing a menacing orange. Then,

BOOM!

The volcano split in half and erupted. A massive column of fire shot into the sky. Rivers of lava poured down the sides, swallowing everything in their path. The air became thick with heat, making it hard to breathe.

"Uh-oh…" Diddy said, eyes wide. "Run, Rambi!" Donkey shouted. Rambi didn't need to be told twice. He bolted forward as a molten rock just barely missed them, crashing into the ground with a fiery explosion.

Bridges swayed dangerously as they crossed. Some collapsed entirely, crumbling into the depths below. "Uh-oh again!" Diddy yelped, clinging even tighter.

Rambi wasn't afraid. He ran like never before, jumping over collapsing platforms and dodging falling boulders with precise movements."Almost there, Rambi!" Donkey encouraged.

Finally, they reached a solid cliff edge. With one final mighty leap, Rambi soared through the air and landed safely on the other side. The ground shook behind them as more of the volcano crumbled, but they were out of danger.

Rambi skidded to a stop, panting heavily. His body trembled with exhaustion, but he stood strong. It looked like smooth sailing up ahead. The jungle stretched before them, dark but peaceful once more.

The Kongs hopped off Rambi's back. "I think you've done enough for us, Rambi," Donkey said, giving him a pat on the head. "We can take it from here. You should go get some rest."

Rambi nodded, giving one last grateful grunt before turning around and disappearing into the darkness. The Kongs watched him go.

"That guy's a lifesaver," Diddy said, shaking his head in amazement. "Yeah," Donkey agreed. "But we still have a long way to go." Diddy sighed but nodded. "Alright… let's keep moving." And with that, they pressed on into the unknown, determined to find their missing friends, no matter what dangers lay ahead.
