N.A.T.U
Chapter 15
Author Notes: Gotta be honest, when I started this chapter-I really didn't expect it to go like this. Sen couldn't say he expected it either, but hey both of us like the chapter so here we go. Don't own Pokemon.
3rd P.O.V
"So congrats on making it through your first two weeks of classes!" Glasses were raised, sweets fresh out of the oven, the party of two officially began. "Thanks Jordan. I appreciate you ordering ahead of time." The boy in question smiled, sipping his milkshake with gusto.
Just one of the many drinks and delicacies laid out for them to devour. Meanwhile Shishiki rested her head on the table, relaxing as she took in the wonderful aroma of their favorite cafe. "No problem, I remember feeling so drained my first year. So what's going on? Classes alright?" They were long overdue for a hangout day.
Random messages from their online chat just wasn't enough for the crazy stories they had to share with one another. Especially considering Jordan's uncle who kept getting involved whenever the pair planned a little get-together.
For once they were free to enjoy their time without interruption. "Yeah. I met all my teachers and they were pretty cool. Assignments are easy enough to do. I think I got a test next week for Mr. Wes and a project for Miss. Duplica due in a couple days but all of it is more or less straightforward."
Jordan nodded in understanding as he refilled his cup. It was a sweet blend of coco and cream, a lovely addition to their pile. "What about you? Between your uncle, the store, and classes I'm amazed you're still standing." The two shared a laugh for a brief moment.
The pair blissfully unaware of the knowing smiles the staff were giving them as they cleaned tables and checked on other customers. "You're telling me. Store can be a little annoying with the obnoxious students that can come in but my uncle's a whole other story." He crossed his arms at the thought.
Remembering and stopping himself to not put his feet on the table, ergo rocking his chair. "He's been whining all week about putting on some sort of festival or competition. His secretaries and teachers have been halting all of his plans which leads him to my room."
Shishiki was tempted to laugh...except she couldn't. Seeing how her own room had been invaded time and time again, she could understand his frustration. Not anywhere near as terrible as Jordan's circumstances, but still tiring all the same since those invasions meant very little time for her to relax or study properly.
If not by Pro Tag Kun who constantly missed class and needed notes while ranting about legendary pokemon, then by Nikki, Miiki and Angelisa who were learning how to recycle used pokeballs while talking fashion.
"Does he normally do festivals this early in the semester?" At her question he groaned, rubbing his temples. "I love my uncle, I really do but he shouldn't have become headmaster. If it were up to him, there'd be no school or classes, just battles and partying." What a nightmarish image.
With a sigh the two took another sip of their drinks, before Jordan pulled out his computer. "Back to your question, he tries, and normally the teachers don't mind it, but after last year's fiasco, everyone on staff are dedicated to making it at least a month before our first major shindig."
The freshman hummed, before blinking at the images presented to her. People were screaming, running and battling as Jordan showed her a slideshow of pokemon destroying a buffet table. She also saw food constantly flying throughout the images.
"These are just some of the many pictures from last year. My uncle thought he'd kick off the first day with a huge party-problem was that he had pokemon just shipped out from another region and all of them were a little too enthusiastic to be released from their transportation crates when they smelled the food."
Yeah she could see why he was under a leash now. Not that it mattered to her, she had no intentions of being involved in any nonsense his uncle creates. She had a list of things she had far more interest in following. "So any plans afterwards? Surely you got more to do than just hang out with me right?"
Hiding a blush, Shisiki gave him back his computer. "I mean, not really? I have a list of things I planned on doing, but they're slowly getting checked off so it's not a big deal." Hanging out with Jordan soon, was definitely going to be crossed off after their little tea party.
"Mind if I have a look? I'll give you a hand with some of those. I got some new help at the store so I have time to kill until the next shift." She wanted to die. Ignoring her horribly burning cheeks, she couldn't really refuse as she passed him her handwritten set of tasks.
Simple little things she added and crossed off when the thought comes to her. She's already gone through several sheets before starting anew the next week. Today's in all honesty wasn't too bad-minus the sixth thing on the list.
Study for tests
Prepare for Mr. Tracy's evaluation
Catch a teleportation pokemon
Recycle already used premier balls
Tell Angelisa, Nikki and Miiki to stop taking her recycled premier balls.
Hang out with Jordan soon
Give Pro Tag Kun latest assignments for Duplica
Check Rumors Board for latest information.
"Well glad to see the third one up from the bottom is done right?" He laughed as she turned as red as a cherri berry. "You-you don't have to go out of your way." His smile softened, making several of the staff quietly coo.
Such an adorable sight-they were so happy the headmaster wasn't there to ruin everything. "I want to. I don't get to see you enough. So let's multitask. I'm assuming you already have all your books to study and your computer right?"
He waited for her, well aware that she looked to be on the verge of exploding with her entire body going red, to nod before continuing. "Cool, so while you're taking notes, I can tell you about anything and everything going on on my laptop." More snacks and drinks were ordered as the two started setting up.
Some of the little pokemon staff even brought another table to give the cute pair more space, something both of them appreciated. Shishiki tapped her eraser on her notebook, flipping the pages as Jordan logged in.
"So anything of interest?" A hum escaped him as he glanced on the screen. "Looks like there some new messages from people offering rewards to people for some help." His dining companion scrunched her nose, her pen quickly scribbling something down.
Her nose scrunched further as he read out loud what some of the rewards were. Everything ranging from specialty pokeballs to food ingredients and even shards from stones. None of which is overtly difficult to obtain, but can be considered time consuming to obtain.
"Sidequests ugh-as if it's not bad enough in videogames. If they need all this stuff, couldn't they just buy it at your store or go out exploring? There's mining kits and such right?" She wasn't wrong.
Still Jordan sighed. "Not that simple. Like I said these are new. Everyday-practically every hour, dozens upon dozens of people put up requests like that, whether it's for class or their own needs. My store has all this stuff but in limited quantities so I'm always sold out, and renting stuff I can only do with teachers-leading to never having enough supplies."
In fact it was because of the requests that there were at least twenty people working on the school site. Six of them dedicated to the forum for requests alone just because of all the messages flooding in.
Jordan used to be able to online orders, but people hacking and people fighting, he had to stop it and make physical appointments. "And you're the only store? We've seen several different shops. An island this big and there's not enough supply for demand?"
He could only sheepishly shrug at her. "Several shops, but not everything people need. I'm one of like three general stores that sell everything, and like I said, we sell out fast for a lot of stuff people look for." Something didn't sound right.
"But you had all of that stuff when I was there." Now it was his turn to blush. "We were lucky to get some deliveries that day, but what I sold you...was a few extras I stored in case we ran out. I saw you were struggling and wanted to help." A chikorita offered him another milkshake, one he happily took.
Unable to look at Shishiki who smiled at him with appreciation. He coughed, continuing. "Point is, that section dedicated to requests is always asking for stuff, so it's always monitered by staff and students that are in need of some quick cash-though, it's not always worth it."
Just a quick glance told her that most weren't worth it. "And there's nothing to take care of these requests other than individual students? No clubs or stores dedicated to them?" She got another shrug. "I mean, I'm sure there are groups of people who dive in, but as far as I know, no."
She tapped her page again, still notetaking while and idea popped into her head. "Does it require anything to open up shop?" A way to make money, help Jordan so he's not overwhelmed with inventory, get these ridiculous quests to die down and make more connections in the community without things getting overly crazy?
There was potential. "Um, no. I mean, you need my uncle's approval-which considering he avoids paperwork, means you could essentially do anything. Of course, too many complaints from people meaning you get in trouble. My mom used to run the store with me helping out until this year but I hear it's not hard. Why?"
It wasn't time yet. "I got an idea but it's still in the works. Frankly I'm more interested if there's any surprises coming my way. Some people from a fishing club warned me that there's always competitions and festivals going on, and I rather avoid them if I can." Her answer came with a snort.
"The fact that you haven't dealt with one already is a miracle in itself. My uncle's secretaries must really be putting him on a tight leash with the teachers for nothing to have happened yet. He's sporadic, so other than what's on the rumor board, I can't really help you."
Welp-she tried. "On another note-I saw you wanted a teleportation pokemon, how come?" She gave the boy a dumbstruck look. "Have you seen the amount of buildings and people that swarm during classes? It's a nightmare trying to maneuver through the teleportation systems." That didn't even count the other modes of transportation.
Pokemon rentals, buses, bike roads, all of them were extremely busy and claustrophobic to her. "I don't actually. I do online classes so I can run the store." Oh...no wonder. Lucky him. "So then why are you here on campus?" He checks his surroundings real quick before whispering.
"My mom doesn't trust my uncle or anyone he hires to run the store, it's her pride and joy. Plus with all my uncle's antics, they use me to reel him in if he gets too out of control." She laughed, imagining the headmaster denying his claims as much as he does online about that secret garden rumor.
It didn't matter to her in the end, but was grateful Jordan was there. "Well, in my case, it's too busy for me to handle. I get up super early just to avoid the crowds. I figured a pokemon with teleport would save me time and stress." Immediately he started typing again.
His fingers flew across the keys, only when he stopped did they both hear the beep from her own. "I sent through chat all the possible places a teleportation pokemon could arrive and when, in case we don't find one today." Wait..."You...you want to go with me?"
It took everything within her not to squeal as he offered her another smile. The staff didn't have as much luck.
