Chapter 34

Usagi laughed along with Michaela and Roxanne while Lily huffed at Roxanne's statement. "Anyways, I'll worry about the new potential Inners in the future. Right now, I wanna enjoy the last few weeks with my family before we go back to the academy."

"I'm sure you do Bunny." Michaela laughed, "It has been non-stop action since you've landed."

"Exactly, hopefully now that the main issues have been handled I can relax and enjoy myself."

"Famous last words," Roxanne teased, raising an eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure the universe has a way of keeping things interesting."

Usagi rolled her eyes, "Please don't jinx me." She groaned, but she couldn't help the smile tugging at her lips. She was used to Roxanne's sarcastic humor by now.

Lily, who had been silent until now, crossed her arms and let out a soft sigh. "You do deserve a break, Usagi. You've been through enough."

Usagi stretched her arms overhead and leaned back in her chair, taking a deep breath. The warm night breeze from the open windows carried the scent of flowers into the room. "Yeah, I think I've earned a few weeks of peace and quiet. I'm going to enjoy every moment, even if the world does decide to throw me another curveball."

The three girls on screen smiled at their friend, hoping for the peace she wanted. As the conversation shifted to lighter topics, Usagi smiled thinking how in a few weeks they would be together again.

Selene had sent her a message to head back to the academy at least three weeks before the school started to give her enough time to get everything. The news of this actually made her happy as she planned to go back a month prior but now she had an extra week to spend time with her family and friends and time to relax.

The last weeks of Usagi's time in Japan went by faster than what she wanted. The days were spent with drives and picnics with the Outers and afternoons eating out or sleepovers with Naru. Occasionally a few monsters would pop up from out of nowhere but they were easy to defeat.

Of course, she also made time to spend with her family especially Shingo, and going to his games, cheering wildly from the sidelines. His face would light up every time she showed up to support him, and it reminded her of how much she missed these simple moments.

But there was also a quiet sadness that lingered beneath the surface, knowing that all of this would soon be a memory.

Even though her heart longed to stay in the comfort of home, a new semester was about to begin and she needed to get back to start preparing. She had responsibilities there, and so many unanswered questions for herself. The future wasn't as clear as she hoped, but she had to keep moving forward and the academy was the answer.

The final days were a blur of reminiscing, packing, and final meals with her family and friends, and the evening before her departure, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, Usagi found herself leaning on the window of her home, staring out at the skyline with Tsuki on her lap. She had packed her clothes and belongings, leaving only the clothes for the next day, as she had a very early flight in the morning so she could arrive in LA by noon.

There was a knock on the door and Usagi turned to be greeted by the face of her mother who was carrying a tray.

Ikuko smiled softly as she entered the room, the tray in her hands offering a comforting touch. "I thought you might have a little snack before bed," she said, setting it down on the nearby table. On the tray was a cup of tea, a small plate of cookies, and a bowl of fresh fruit.

Usagi gave a smile, "Thanks, Mom. You always know just what I need," she replied but she didn't reach for the tray.

Ikuko tilted her head noticing a change in her daughter's behavior "Nervous?" She questioned and Usagi gave a small nod and Ikuko placed a hand on hers, her touch reassuring, "You'll be okay love. You'll have your friends with you and never forget that your father and I are just a phone call away."

Usagi reached out and hugged Ikuko, "I'm going to miss you, Ma."

"I'm going to miss you too baby" Ikuko hugging her daughter tightly. After a minute she released her hold before peppering Usagi's face with kisses. Usagi laughed, jiggling Tsuki off her lap.

Usagi's laughter attracted her father and brother to her room. Kenji immediately joined his wife in giving Usagi kisses. Usagi tried to escape her parent's assault of kisses but was unable to push them away. She called for Shingo's help but he just snorted and left closing the door behind him.

One day, she will get him back.

She was finally able to break away from her parent's attack and immediately kicked them out of her room. Ikuko and Kenji laughed and from outside the room they told her to try to at least nap since they would be leaving in a few hours.

After eating the snacks Ikuko prepared, Usagi was able to nap for at least 3 hours before she woke up and quickly showered and dressed herself in a comfortable yet stylish outfit for the plane ride. Her family woke a little after her and soon Shingo and Kenji were helping her bring the bags to the car.

However when she stepped outside she was surprised to see the Outers and Naru, still in their pajamas waiting for her. Usagi held back the tears as Usagi was squished in a group hug. With one last hug, she promised them to text once she landed in L.A.

With her mother and father in the front seat and her, Tsuki, and Shingo in the back, she gave a final wave to them as the car rolled away from them.

She wasn't surprised to not see any of the Inners or Mamoru on her last day. She barely heard from them since she removed their powers. It was obvious Rei and Mamoru wouldn't speak to her but the others she could only think that it was due to them getting used to their new lives without their abilities, especially Luna and Artemis.

They soon arrived at the airport as there was barely any traffic and compared to last time, her family wasn't going with her to L.A.

They got out her bags from the car and from outside the airport, "Usagi, remember to text us once you land." Ikuko stressed.

"And when you get to the academy" Kenji added.

Usagi giggled, "I promised guys. I have a whole list of people I got to text once I land," Her parents smiled and gave her a tight hug.

"Don't think I will miss you, Usagi," he said with a grin, his usual tough exterior softening for a moment.

"I'll miss you too, Shingo," she replied, pulling him into a hug. Shingo gave her a second before pushing her away.

Usagi let out a laugh and bent down to pick up Tsuki. She used his paw to give them a final wave before taking her suitcases inside the airport. Once inside she got out her phone to get her flight gate that Selene had already sent her.

A text notification popped up and it was from Ami. She opened the message and gasped as she saw it video of her, Minako, and Makoto, with Minako and Makoto holding Luna and Artemis. Her finger hovered on the video for a second before swiping out of it and going back to her Grandmother's email.

She wasn't sure what was on video and it made her a bit anxious just thinking about it but at the moment it was more important to find her plane.

It took Usagi 30 minutes to find her plane since once again she had to go through the back way outside but thankfully a nice pilot showed her the way. She saw Cynthia and Phoebe who waving at her.

"Hello, Usagi-sama. We've been waiting for you." Phoebe stated

"I know, I'm sorry I kinda got lost," Usagi explained and both stewardesses gasped. "But it's fine, a nice pilot showed me the way."

"Oh, that's wonderful. Let me take your bags and you and Tsuki can get settled inside the cabin." Cynthia smiled and Usagi did as she said with Tsuki in her arms leaving her bags to the stewardess.

Inside the jet cabin, Usagi placed Tsuki on a pillow already waiting for him next to her seat and sat afterward. Tsuki changed into a white cat before quickly settling himself on the pillow. Usagi shook her head and let out a giggle.

Ten minutes later, Cynthia and Phoebe got the plane and closed the door behind themselves. The pilot on the overhead greeted Usagi formally and started the takeoff process. Cynthia made sure Usagi was comfortable before going to the back with Phoebe.

Usagi deeply sighed, she couldn't ignore the video forever. She got out her headphones and connected them to her phone. She went to her message and tapped on Ami's name and once again her finger hovered over the video before she finally tapped on it.

The video began to play, and Usagi's heart was racing.

"Hey, Usagi." The three said together while Luna and Artemis meowed.

"We're sorry we're not there in person" Ami began "But we wanted to at least do something before you head back to the academy. We're sorry for being horrible friends. We honestly deserve it."

Usagi's breath hitched as the words echoed through her ears, and her eyes widened in surprise. Ami, Minako, and Makoto—all three of them—looked sincere and vulnerable, which made Usagi feel an unexpected weight in her chest. Even Luna and Artemis were able to express that emotion on their faces.

"We know we've been distant lately," Minako added, her voice softer than usual, "And that's on us. We let things get in the way, and we didn't reach out like we should have."

Makoto spoke next, her usual strong presence now carrying a gentler tone. "But we've never stopped thinking about you, Usagi. Not for a second. We just... didn't know how to handle everything changing so fast. Losing our powers, finding new paths... It felt overwhelming, and we didn't want to burden you any more than we already have."

Usagi's eyes were misty, and she pressed a hand to her lips to keep from crying. She hadn't expected any of this.

"We were scared," Ami added softly, her voice almost trembling. "Scared that we lost you, that we ruined the relationship we once had. But we want you to know that we will do better."

Usagi swallowed hard, her fingers gripping the edges of her phone as she just listened, letting their words sink into her heart.

"We should've been there for you more, should have defended you. We shouldn't have talked about you behind your back especially since we have similar habits," Minako said, her smile now bittersweet. "But just know, Usagi, that we're still here for you. And we always will be."

Makoto gave a warm, reassuring smile. "You've been through so much, and you always put everyone else first. Now it's our turn to put you first so we know that you probably won't respond and honestly, we don't expect you to. But we wanna say that we will miss you and we will always love you. "

Ami smiled gently at the camera. "So… don't forget about us, okay? Hopefully, one day when you finally forgive us we'll be waiting to hear all about you. And we promise, we'll be better friends from now on."

Minako went out of the frame of the camera for a second seeming to bend down and pick something up. It was a piece of paper.

"Um since Luna and Artemis can't talk, they wrote you something using Ami's computer." Minako explained, "It says 'Hey Usagi, sorry we couldn't see you go but we only hope the best for you. We're sorry it took us this long to realize that we were in the wrong in this situation. There's no excuse for our behavior and we deserve this punishment Selene gave us, it's allowed us to listen and realize what we did was horrible to you. We should have trusted you. I, Luna, should have realized that you were no longer the same girl I met at first but someone much stronger and you've grown up so well. One day I hope to say this to you if the opportunity is given. Take care of yourself, Usagi. Love Luna and Artemis."

The video ended with a final group wave, and Usagi sat frozen, her heart both full and heavy. Her friends, who she'd spent so much time with—fighting, laughing, and growing together—still hoped to be friends. Can they?

Maybe. But she just needed time to think. However, she couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you," she whispered to herself, feeling a deep sense of warmth fill her chest.

She placed her phone on her lap, blinking away the tears, and took a deep breath. Her heart filled with a renewed sense of peace.

The plane engines roared as the jet was revving up to ascend and Usagi leaned her head back on the seat and pet Tsuki's soft fur, feeling his purrs underneath her fingers.

With a small smile, the plane soared up into the sky and Usagi felt her heart full of both nostalgia and anticipation.

Many hours later, Usagi arrived in LA, and with the help of Taka, the guard she met back when she arrived back home in Japan, he took her bags, escorted her to the SUV, and drove her straight to the academy. While enjoying the familiar sights of the city, Tsuki taps her and then her phone reminding her she has a list of people to text her arrival in LA.

Usagi smiled and bent down to kiss the top of Tsuki's head, he meowed as if showing his dislike in the kiss but she knew otherwise. She took the remaining time in the car and sent out the text. Since it was

As they entered through the academy gates, Usagi noticed crowds of new and old students with their luggage and the academy shining stirred a mix of emotions in her chest. The sprawling, modern buildings were as familiar as it was grand, with their towering spires and sleek, glass windows reflecting the bright afternoon sun.

The campus grounds, once calm and quiet during her last visit, were now buzzing with the energy of students coming and going—new faces mingling with old friends. Usagi couldn't help but be excited as she stared out the window watching the new students look amazed and yet nervous.

She immediately put on one of her earpieces and connected it to the Pilot program. While she can have a somewhat decent conversation with people in English, she wanted it on hand just in case.

The SUV made its way through the entrance gate, and Taka and she arrived at the Administration building. She left Taka and Tsuki in the car and when she couldn't help but stand for a moment just inside the door, taking in the sight of the bustling room. Students new and old getting their apartment room assignments and semester classes.

Her eyes scanned the room, searching for any sign of the person she was supposed to meet, but all she could see were the staff busy with other students. She hesitated, unsure whether to wait outside or push forward and try to navigate through the crowd.

Suddenly she heard her name being called, she looked around for the person calling her and her eyes landed on one of the receptionists ahead. She walked over to a red-headed pale-skinned man, seemingly overwhelmed by the amount of people in the room.

"Are you Tsukino Usagi?" He questioned and Usagi nodded, "You need to go up to the fifth floor and speak to Ms. Asteria."

Usagi let out a sigh of relief and thanked the man before leaving to head up the fifth floor, happy to escape the crowds. As she reached the fifth floor and entered through the door that held the sign of Asteria's name underneath her Grandmother's.

She knocked and once Asteria answered she entered and saw she was surrounded with paper, "Hello Usagi, welcome back for the new academic year." Asteria greeted warmly

"Thank you Asteria, it's been a while. Is it always like this at the beginning of the semester?" She asked

"Honestly, this is nothing compared to how it will be next week. This is the early rush, next week will really be hectic so I suggest you get everything this week." She advised

Usagi nodded, happy her Grandmother told her to come back this week, "I will and I gotta say even though you look crazy busy, you look amazing."

"Aww thank you love but you look as amazing too." And Usagi couldn't help but blush since she thought Asteria was more beautiful especially since she dyed her hair a reddish-brown color that complimented her dark skin.

"So what building am I in this year?" Usagi wondered

"Well as you know what we built new residence buildings on both sides," Asteria stated

Usagi remembered how back at the beginning of the year the girls noticed new construction was being built around the campus that includes the girl's village. Selene revealed that new resident buildings were being built plus renovations to the already existing buildings during the summer months. Any student who didn't leave for home was put in a hotel nearby until renovations were complete.

"So on the girl's side have the buildings of Angel, Moon, Star, Solar, and Twilight and now we have Crystal." Asteria continued

Usagi felt her eye twitch.

Asteria, however, did not notice Usagi's reaction and continued, "So this new year, you will be in Crystal."

Usagi face palmed, "Of course I am. "

Asteria furrowed her brow, "Is anything wrong?"

"I'm just wondering if Grandmother is doing this on purpose at this point," Usagi questioned and Asteria gave her a puzzled look. "It's fine, but if you see Grandmother tell her we need to talk."

Asteria smiled, "Will do. Anyways, here's your key to your apartment 706 and your student credit card. Also, your Grandmother said to let you know that the remaining clothes you had left are at the Palace. Anyways, I hope you love the new resident building." She smiled

Usagi thanked her and walked down and out of the busy Admin Building to meet Taka who was no longer standing next to the SUV but in the driver's seat of the academy club car and her bags were in the back.

As Taka was driving her to the girl's village, Usagi realized she didn't ask Asteria if she would rooming with her friends. She knew it was possible they would change up the apartment room assignments to get people to make new friends but after creating a bond with the girls she could imagine not rooming with them.

As they reached the girl's village, Usagi's heart raced as they approached the familiar beautiful garden that stretched between the now six buildings. Taka drove on the pavement pathway that split the garden down the middle until it divided into six wide pathways that led to each residence and parked in front of the Crystal residence.

From the outside, the Crystal residence didn't look any different from the other five buildings. They were designed with both elegance and functionality in mind. The residences stood tall with the exterior complemented by the vertical gardens that cascade down the sides, next to the balconies, bringing a touch of green to the landscape.

There were already a couple of girls coming and going from the Crystal residence and she overheard their compliments of the building. Taka took her bags out of the car and went ahead to drop them off in front of her door as Usagi told him her apartment number.

Holding Tsuki, she walked up the three steps to enter the building and was dazzled by an open into a lobby adorned with minimalist yet stylish décor. Polished marble floors gleam under soft lighting, and a statement chandelier hangs from the high ceiling, illuminating the space with a warm glow. Potted plants are thoughtfully placed throughout, bringing life to the modern environment, while sleek lounge seating offers a place to relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere.

She took the elevator up to the seventh floor and greeted the few people she recognized from last year. She met Taka in the hallway and thanked him for carrying her bags for her. He gave a slight bow and went on his way.

She reached apartment 706 and unlocked the door and was greeted by the open and airy apartment design, with wide windows and a balcony that offered stunning views of the academy. Natural light pours in, filling the living spaces with warmth and brightness. The layout is open-plan, with a spacious living room that flows seamlessly into the dining and kitchen area with high-end appliances, and minimalist cabinetry. The marble countertops elevate the kitchen with four high chairs placed in front of the island. The warm wood hard floor had plush rugs. There were three comfortable sofas surrounded by a black coffee table creating an inviting, homely atmosphere.

There were five doors like last year's apartment; she was sure one of them was for the bathroom however she noticed there was no TV like last year. She shrugged thinking Selene probably removed them.

After leaving Tsuki in the living room to roam. Usagi was bringing her bags into the living room where she noticed her belongings from last year and someone else luggages. Usagi was wondering who it belonged to when suddenly she heard the toilet flush and the sink water running and after a minute, the door opened revealing a familiar face.

Usagi screamed, "ROXANNE!"

Roxanne was wiping her hands with a paper towel before she dropped it to run and hug Usagi, "OMG! Usagi! And Tsuki!" She cried out when she saw the white cat lying on the couch "We're roommates again!"

"I'm so happy!" Usagi cheered

"Me too Bunny!" The two started jumping up and down excitedly.

"Aww now I feel left out." A voice said behind them

"MICHAELA!" Usagi and Roxanne ran and tightly hugged the brunette as she giggled before joining them in their cheers. Their loudness drew strange looks from outsiders as Michaela left the door open but the three were in their own world and didn't seem to care.

"Um excuse me!" The three stopped and turned to the door to see a girl with a sharp, defiant edge to her presence. Her short jet-black hair was in loose waves and her skin was fair, with a few faint freckles scattered across her nose, and her almond-shaped brown eyes, held a steely determination. There's a guarded intensity in her gaze and from the look she was giving she was definitely judging them.

"Sorry to barge in this little 'party' but I'm trying to get my stuff in." The girl said as she dropped her duffle bag that she was carrying along with suitcases she rolled behind her.

The girls gave each other a quick and quickly shoved down the disappointment in the fact that Lily wouldn't be rooming with them.

Usagi spoke first, "Sorry, we were just excited to see each other again, my name is Usagi Tsukino, welcome to apartment 706."

The girl gave a confused look, "Wait this is not 707?"

The three shooked their head, "That's probably the room across" Roxanne replied

The girl groaned and muttered "Great" and bent down to pick up her stuff.

"If you would like we could help you with your stuff. It was probably exhausting carrying it around." Michaela offered

The girl's gaze softened a bit, "Would you really not mind?"

"Yeah, we wouldn't mind," Roxanne added and Usagi agreed as well. The three moved forward and each took one of the girl's bags.

"Thank you." She mumbled but the three heard her. "I'm Ha-Rin Choi" The girls smiled at her little introduction and Michaela and Roxanne introduced themselves.

Ha-Rin left first out of the apartment first and the girls followed after her across the wide hallway. After she unlocked and opened her apartment door, Michaela, Roxanne, and Usagi gasped although Roxanne was the loudest.

"What are you doing here, Ice-Rocks?" Iris groaned

"I'm wondering the same thing Virus, because if you're here, who's guarding Hades?" Roxanne snapped back. Usagi and Michaela's eyes widened at her comment.

Ha-Rin raises her brow, "Um what is happening right now?"

"That's what we'd like to know?" Valery asked crossing her arms with Mei-Lin nodding along next to her.

"Well I can answer one part and say that I'm your roommate" Ha-Rin replied

Roxanne sighed, "I'm so sorry for you Ha-Rin, I would immediately request a change in roommates if I were you."

Iris narrowed her eyes at Roxanne, "Go fall down a well, Ice-Rocks!"

"Go buy a brain, Virus!" Roxanne yelled back

"Okay, okay!" Usagi interrupted before any more insults could fly out, "I think that we should give Ha-Rin the chance to settle in with her new roommates and we should get back to our place, yeah? Okay."

Everyone seemed to be in agreement and the girls placed Ha-Rin bags to the side. As the three started to walk out of Iris's apartment, Roxanne immediately turned back.

"Oh Ha-Rin, just a word of warning, don't look into Iris's eyes," Roxanne warned

Iris scoffed, "Why?"

Ha-Rin smiled, "Will I turn into stone or something?"

Roxanne giggled, "Of course not, it's because they're so ugly."

Iris, Valery, and Mei-Lin gasped and Ha-Rin let out a small laugh. Before Iris could even say anything Usagi immediately lifted Roxanne and ran out of the apartment with her on shoulders while Michaela shut the door after the two and they all ran back into their apartment.

Usagi put Roxanne down, "Wow, Bunny you've gotten stronger over the summer."

Michaela and Usagi gave Roxanne a stunned look, "Girl don't change the topic!" Michaela yelled out, "The semester didn't even start you already started trouble with Iris and her gang. Not to mention, probably gave a bad impression to their new roommate."

Roxanne crossed her arms, "I was merely showing her Virus's true colors. I probably saved her."

Usagi couldn't help but roll her eyes, "Also what's with the nickname Virus? Where did that come from?"

"Iris, Virus. I had to think of something quick and it rhymes so now it sticks." Roxanne answered but then realized, "Oh wow that also rhymed. I'm on a roll."

Michaela sighed as she put her hands on her hips, "Well I suppose it sad that Ha-Rin has to be with Iris as a roommate but something tells me she'll be fine. She seems like a tough girl."

"Who's a tough girl?" The three turned around and saw Lily with her bags.

"Finally Lily! Where the heck have you been?" Roxanne wondered

Lily looked confused, "Well sorry, there's been a freaking line at the Admin building, not to mention the academy cars were stopping everywhere."

"It's not your fault, Lily. Rox got into it with Iris." Usagi sighed

Lily gasped, "Already?"

"Not to mention, the heart attack we almost had thinking we were getting a new roommate," Michaela added.

Lily's eyes popped out, "Wait what? What do you mean?" Usagi quickly filled Lily in on what happened. "And I missed that too?" She groaned.

"Well, I'm sure you'll catch more interactions. After all, they live across the hall from us." Usagi smiled

Roxanne immediately groaned while Lily clapped her hands in excitement, "Anyways since we're all together, how about we pick our rooms?" Michaela suggested

"How should we decide?" Usagi asked

"Well, we can do like last year and pick the room out of a hat. I'll write 4 numbers and whatever number we pick, will be our room. So 1 and 2 are the ones by the balcony, 3 is by 1 and 4 is by the bathroom." Roxanne replied and went into her bag to get everything. A few minutes later she was done and held out the hat, shaking it and mixing up the papers. "Mkay, so who will go first?"

"It should be Usagi since she didn't get to choose last year," Michaela suggested

Usagi smiled, "Really?"

Lily shrugged, "Yeah, I mean that honestly makes sense." And Roxanne agreed.

Usagi shrugged and reached into the hat and picked up a piece of paper. She opened it and raised her eyebrows, "Oh I got 1."

Michaela snorted, "Of course, the goddess got 1." She joked.

Usagi giggled as she walked over to check out her new room with Tsuki following after her. She opened the door and was amazed by the room. It was a wide room with light streaming from the large windows. The walls are painted in a soft, neutral tone that acts as a calm backdrop to the room. One wall by the door features a large framed mirror while on another wall, on the opposite side, there's a bulletin board where she can pin future photos and notes.

In the center of the room was the barren queen-sized bed. There were twin nightstands at opposite sides of the bed and one of them was a little lamp. The room had a sleek, desk that sits underneath the bulletin board, with a modern ergonomic chair that's both stylish and supportive for study sessions. The wardrobe is a built-in unit with sliding doors, designed in a matte black that matches the modern theme of the room.

The room had recessed ceiling lights providing a soft, even glow and the dark hardwood floor was covered with a soft, neutral-colored rug. Overall the room was wonderful and Usagi was loving it and it seemed Tsuki did too as he rolled around on the mattress.

Coming back to the living room, it looked like the girls had finished deciding the rooms and Michaela was her neighbor with Lily on the opposite side from Usagi and Roxanne by the bathroom. The four begin moving in their clothes and belongings into the rooms.

After about an hour and a half, the girls were done and they all gathered in the living room to relax.

"You know I was just thinking" Lily began

"Oh, that would explain the beads of sweat." Roxanne interrupted

Lily glared at Roxanne, "Save the insults for Iris, you human version of a headache."

Roxanne was impressed by Lily's comeback, "Oo I like that."

"Anyways, what I was trying to say was that I was thinking that since Ha-Rin is staying Iris-" Lily started.

"That poor girl" Usagi muttered

"She must be a demi-god." Lily finished

Michaela shrugged, "Makes sense. They wouldn't put a human with three other demi-gods."

"From her name, she's Korean so maybe it's a Korean god or goddess she's related." Usagi hypothesized

"That's possible but you know our Greek parents can't keep their hands off anyone." Roxanne pointed out and Usagi couldn't help but agree.

"Well, we'll probably figure it out once we see her in the training classes. Anywho, what should we do?" Michaela wondered and she leaned back on the sofa

"Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm hungry. How about we go out to eat? I heard they opened up some new restaurants at the Student Center we could check those out." Lily suggested

"That sounds good, plus afterward we can check out some new hot students." Roxanne winked and the girls laughed.

The room filled with excited chatter of plans being made and it felt like a good way to enjoy the calm before the storm.
