Today is the day to learn how to fly and Olivia is terrified. She has no reason to fear for her life. Superboy is literally going to teach her and would never let her fall but even so she felt what was too high for herself and that was a few meters off the ground. There was no need for another strike that she felt. Her body changed into her electrified state just as easily as before proving she doesn't burn through her energy that quickly. If she eats it's as if she's lost nothing at all. Sylvia was quite fascinated with the outrageous yield Sophie and Olivia had from simply eating as the average human does.
The only thing that kept her calm was getting to spend time with Victor. She could clear her mind enough to catch up on the assignments she was behind on, finalize his suits design, and just enjoy his company. She may have gone overboard with teasing him this morning but she was in a bit of a mood. Whatever revenge he had cooking was yet to be exacted.
"I take it school's going pretty well for you," Victor said from his favorite lounge spot between Olivia's warm thighs as they waited in the living room.
"Hm?" Olivia looked up from her school book.
"I only ask because you haven't asked me to clarify a single question for you." He smiles while looking up at her. Lips landed on one of his eyes. "Ah!"
"Maybe all that tutoring finally sank in," she mused. "Thank you. I don't feel like the dumbest kid in my class most days now."
"You're not dumb, babe."
"I'm certainly the dumbest Wayne."
"You're comparing yourself to a house of men who deal with life or death situations on a regular basis where a hyper attention to detail is required. From what I've seen the dumbest Wayne is still a high fucking bar most people just walk right under." He turned then tipped her book down to her attention and gaze into her eyes. "You're certainly my favorite Wayne." Olivia smiles and kisses his nose. "Uh, hey, your brother and I have a mission Wednesday night and we may need a favor from you. Nothing dangerous and nothing you can't handle."
Olivia looks off as she thinks. "Gotham's annual benefit dinner. The biggest dick waving contest for the most affluent families in the city." Blending in is not something she could pull off for Victor. He's got a very distinct look. "...You need a credible reason to be in the room." He nods. "My dad would never ask me to help on any of their missions."
"We still need to keep a close eye on you and on someone else. Say the word and we'll spin another angle."
She searched his face. His eyes were unwavering. "I trust you. I'll do it. We can talk about the details after my flight school," she says with a small smile. "Can't be any more dangerous than going up against a human trafficker and his goons." Her hair sparks and she looks in the direction of the front door.
"Teachers here. Ready to fly?" he asked with a grin.
"I am not but we need to see how well I can." The grand doorbell sounds and the two gather Olivia's things to set out of the way. In the hall Alfred has answered the door and allowed their guest inside.
"Mister Kent has arrived, Mistress Olivia," Alfred announced.
The young Jonathan Kent smiles and nods to Alfred while striding over to Olivia. He dressed casually in jeans and an old t-shirt with Smallville High written on it with a date long before any of them were born and a leather jacket over it. "Liv!" he cheered with his arms out. She stepped into them for a hug and was easily lifted off her feet! Set back down she moved back to stand with Victor. "When you asked me the other day to help you out I didn't think it would be so soon." Bright blue eyes turn to Victor and he extends a hand. "Jonathan Kent. You must be Olivia's boyfriend. Victor, right?"
Victor took the hand in a firm shake. "You can call me Zsasz." He wasn't expecting the quick size up he was given by Jonathan.
"Let's head out back. Dad and Damiam will be up in a bit!" Olivia suggests while leading the young men along. "Jon, are you hungry or anything?"
"I'm good. Had plenty to eat before heading over," he said with a warm smile. His gaze darted across the oversized shirt Olivia was wearing. "You comfortable flying in that? Only asking because it's a little cold out."
"Once I'm lit up I'll be fine," Olivia threw out and kept leading the young men through the manor. Both stopped near a door she passed and she paused. "Something wrong?"
Victor nodded in the direction of that door. "Courts this way, Sunshine," he points out. She winced and came back to him. "There's nothing to be scared about," he laughs.
"I'm the one that should be nervous," Jonathan adds. "If something bad happens to you your dad will have my head. I'm told it looks great where it is."
Olivia let out a weak laugh. "Helps a little but doesn't make it any less scary. I'm used to having steel around me when I'm that high up."
Jonathan put a hand to his chest. "And what am I, plastic?" he scoffs. "I was scared when I was first learning but you've got a full fledged Kryptonian helping just like I did."
"My sister doesn't have the benefit of being indestructible like you, Kent," Damian yelled from down the hall. "The ground would be at greater risk if you fell."
"Happy to see you too, D," Jonathan snickers and holds a fist out to his friend for a bump.
Damian bumps his fist then looks back to his sister. "Father will have to settle for a recording of your first real flight. He's been called away." Olivia and Victor looked at Damian then stepped outside.
Olivia shivered at the cold so Victor scooped her up and held her close to him. "Until you're ready to light up I'll keep you warm, yeah?" Her cheeks warmed while she smiled.
"Gross," Damian says, then leads the way to an open yard. "Take it slow and let Jon know when you're running low on energy." A drone was released from his hand and hovered close to Olivia. She hugged around Victor's neck and smiled brightly for the drone.
"If you drop my sister, Smallville, I'll cut your tongue out."
Jonathan whistles as he floats across the snow. "Just my tongue? Are you getting soft on me, D?" He held a hand out to Olivia. "Ready?"
Olivia took a breath and nodded. Victor set her back on her feet to allow her to remove her overshirt. Jonathan's face went red for a moment and he quickly looked away. Beneath the shirt she wore her improved body suit designed with an opening along her spine. She quickling bounds away from Victor to light up her skin to fight off the cold. Turning back, Jonathan's eyes grew wide. In moments she is in her electrified state. "Oh wow." He has a broad smile then begins to circle around him. "Well, show me what ya got!"
After a glance back to Victor and her brother then back to Jonathan she inhaled and released more of her energy rising higher. At two meters she stops. He follows her up. Her heart is starting to race as she climbs higher still. "This is the highest I went yesterday," she begins to explain. "I don't really know how I'm doing it, I just do?"
"Well that's a relief cause I sure don't know how I do it either," he laughs. "Have you figured out stopping?"
"Barely," she admits and tries to move around him without getting too close. A quick examination of the snow beneath them let her know she wasn't just pushing off the ground constantly with her energy.
"You're perfectly balanced. Practically a natural! You just need to shake off that fear," he said and gradually led her higher as they talked.
"That's easy for you to say!" she squeaked. She had to keep her eyes on him and try not to look down. "You've been doing this since you were a kid. I started yesterday!"
"Well don't look now but you're twice as high already," he points out and readies for her to drop from shock. She squeals and refuses to look down with her energy surging and she rises higher. That was certainly a direction she could go. "See! You're doing fine! Now follow me. We'll go around the manor!" Before she could even think to protest he was racing ahead at a leisurely speed.
"Wait!" She called out and tried to follow him at the same speed but caught up rather quickly, slamming into him! "SORRY!"
Jonathan felt his body seize up and he got the space he needed to keep from dropping out of the sky. "Ittttt. Gah!" He shook his head. "It's fine. Let's try again." Olivia looked up and started laughing. "What?" She pointed towards his hair. He quickly darted to a window to examine his reflection. It was standing on end. "Woops but I think I can make this work," he laughs.
Olivia shook her head and pulled the energy away from him as he returned. "I'll try to keep my distance." It's a relief he's teaching her. Had this been Raven she would have been on the ground. And off they went again this time Jonathan paid better attention and when she got close he shot away again. They moved back and forth climbing higher then soared over the manor's roof from one end to the other.
From the ground Victor and Damian kept watch. "Building her confidence more than teaching her, huh?" Victor asks. It's what was clear to him.
"Head empty only vibes," Damian states. "Everything she can do should just come naturally to her. That's the theory we're running on." They watched as Olivia flew overhead giggling and spinning as she went along.
"Do you want to go higher?" Jonathan asks.
"Yeah!" she yells out and flies higher without a care in the world. This was easy! It was as natural as walking or breathing for her! She heard Damian call out but didn't catch what he said. If Jonathan heard he would let her know right away if they needed to go back inside. From this high up she could see all of the estate and she climbed even higher surging past Jonathan.
"Liv!" Jonathan called out and was easily beside her matching her speed. "Olivia!"
"Huh? What's wrong?" she asked while floating around him at a safe distance. Her eyes turned towards the south and she could see the whole of Gotham from where they flew. "Oh!" Her heart raced and for a moment her energy flickered.
"You all right?" he asked with an arm out just on the off chance she needed it. He could hear her pulse returning to normal and her breathing as well.
"You get to see stuff like this all the time?" she asked with her voice wavering. He gives a soft smile and nods. "Gotham is so beautiful from up here."
He floated with his hands behind his back and cleared his throat. "So...Victor Zsasz, huh?"
Olivia sighed. "Heh, yeah? Did Damian tell you all about him too?"
Jonathan rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh...maybe...yeah," he sighed. "He seems...rough." That was a very polite and very Kent way of putting it.
"He is but I suppose that's one of the many things I like about him," she said with her heart swelling. "I think I love everything about him."
He jammed his hands into his jacket pockets and followed her down. "Yeah I can believe that," he sighs. "I could hear it. Your heart slows down when he gets close to you. Heard it practically in sync with his when I showed up. Can't say I'm not jealous. I should have taken my shot when I had the chance. Snooped around Gotham's underworld and snatched him out from under you!"
Olivia snorts then laughs with her energy surging. "I don't think you're his type."
"Mm, you sure? 'Cause he was eyeballing me pretty hard back in the mansion. I think I still have a chance."
"Is that what you think he was doing? Mm, maybe but I saw him first," she giggles. The smile on her face turns wistful while long since buried thoughts resurface. "Do you think we would have worked out if we tried to date?"
Jonathan held up his hands and shrugged. "No way of knowing now, is there? Probably for the best we never tried. Wouldn't be fair to make Damian choose between us if we broke up." He sighed and bowed his head. "Not that it would have been much of a choice!" He laughs then sighs. Olivia feels people bank too much on Damian's love for her trumping all else. He'd probably be upset at the both of them but would get over the whole ordeal. "I'm happy for you, Liv. If you ever need me for any reason or just want someone to go flying with, I'm just a call away."
"Thank you Jonathan. Oh if Damian asks you out here again it'll probably be target practice for me. Maybe say no?" she said with a shrug.
"Would it help you in what you're preparing for?" She sighs and nods. "Then I can't say no. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't do everything I could to help?" He leans in and grins. "Besides, gotta rack up that tab you Wayne's have started!"
Olivia puffed up her cheeks. And descended faster. "Never living this down!" she cried out.
Back on the ground the light that was Olivia was approaching them once more. "So what's his deal?" Victor asked. Damian arched a brow. "He kept sizing me up and there's no way it was if he could take me in a fight. He interested or something?"
"No, he's just jealous of you," Damian explains. Victor looked at him incredulously. "Not every guy is going to chest pound to prove a point. Especially not Jon. It's not in his nature. Hopefully those super senses help him understand she's moved on."
"What do you mean?"
"He can smell you on her."
Victor snorts and then laughs with his head thrown back. "Oh man, and I was planning on playing nice too. Flexed and didn't even mean to."
"So you knew they had a thing for each other years ago?"
"Yeah, she told me you got mad at her for making out with him." Damian lets out a grunt. "Not your finest moment, huh?"
"Well, I was a twelve year old brat back then. I got less hostile towards the idea of them dating but saying no was enough to turn Liv off of the idea permanently it seems." His green eyes scan Victor. "And now I'm stuck with you."
"Until she gets sick of me!"
"God I hope that's soon." Victor snorts, then laughs in response. Damian smiles and shakes his head.
Glowing Olivia was the first to land not long after this little chat. She powered down and quickly ran over to Victor to get her feet out of the snow! "AHHH COLD!" she squealed then jumped on him. Victor quickly swept her up.
"Have fun?" he asked while carrying her inside.
Olivia gently fluttered her feet as she smiled. "Yes! That was so much fun! I wish you could go up there with me!"
"I could carry him next time!" Jonathan offers.
"Hard pass, bud!" He had no intention of setting her down just yet. She was warm and smelled amazing to him. "Suit looks like it held up pretty well. Maybe too well!" Olivia giggled and shrieked when he nipped at her neck.
Damian grimaced while he and Jonathan hung back. "Gross."
"Aw, come on. She's happy, D."
"I know but I don't need to bear witness to it. Bad enough I heard them fucking."
Jonathan exhaled. "Hoo boy! I'm so glad you said that. I wasn't sure if you knew or how to tell you or if I should! It's her life and I'm sure she's careful!" He's rambling and Damian slowly raises a brow. Jonathan simply shook his head. "I am not thrilled that I can tell either. This body is a curse, D. A cookie fueled curse!"
"Ugh! Let's go to the kitchen. Such a freeloader!" Jonathan floats beside his best friend fist pumping. "When you two shot off like you did the drone couldn't keep up."
"Ah, you make it sound like your dad would have put a picture of her flying on the fridge!" There was silence. Jonathan winced. "I should have carried the drone, huh?" He looked ahead watching Victor's back but focused on where Olivia's would be. "D, what happened to her back?" he asked in a low and serious tone.
Damian narrowed his eyes. "We still don't know."
Long after dinner was eaten and Jonathan was seen off Olivia, Victor and Damian convened in Damian's office to discuss the details of Wednesday's mission. "We need you to seduce an older man," Damian states flatly.
Olivia's eyes widened and her hair lit up. "WHAT?!" she hissed!
"Damian talking privileges revoked," Victor said then turned Olivia's chair so she faced him. "We're not asking you to seduce an old man. Like you pointed out before, I need a credible reason for being at the banquet. Damian doesn't need a bodyguard but you do. Posing as security for you after refusing the exact same job from this man is going to make him lose his shit." Olivia squints. She's starting to feel like the dumbest person in the room again and hating it.
"The man we're looking to incite thinks highly of himself and feels nothing is out of his reach," Damian clarifies. "Money, power, girls. Anything he wants he thinks he can get. The seduction bit was because Mario Falcone has a proclivity for young, pretty girls to a major detriment. You are young, pretty and a girl. Perfect honey pot with just a few snags."
Olivia scrunched up her nose. "If this man is a Falcone he's not likely to be attracted to a black metahuman," she points out.
"There's a chance he'll see you as a stepping stone to get to your father," Victor said. "He'll think you're naive and easy to manipulate. But!" He grins. "If he does find you attractive then he'll be eating out of your hand for your attention. He'll be too distracted to rub elbows with anyone else and that's one thing we want. Me being near you at all times will further enrage him especially if he picks up that I'm not just hired help."
She grimaced. The old crime families are purests. Olivia could be the hottest woman in the world but those two major biases will make her seem like garbage to him. "I'd rather he not be into me, if that's okay with you two," she said with her arms crossed.
"He's a creepy old man. I'd prefer it that way too but if an angle presents itself we need to exploit it, Sunshine."
Olivia sighs and slumps in her chair. "You two need to be properly dressed," she points out. "Victor, you can get away with dressing like you normally do on the job but I need to make some changes. Damian, your tux has seen better days but maybe it's best you and I stand out as much as possible."
"You have free reign of my closet as always," Damian points out. "Just don't make me look like a clown."
"Even if this Falcone finds me repulsive no one will be able to ignore us. We're Gotham royalty after all. We should look the part." There was a light in her eyes. "Including you, Victor."
He furrowed his brow. "Thinking a little too highly of me, aren't ya, Sunshine."
"A fallen house is still a house," Damian says. "Oswald Cobbletpot descends from one of the founding families of Gotham. He took you in as a strange nephew so that makes you one too."
Victor's eyes were wide before he leaned back and laughed. "You two are something else!" he snickers. "So I'm Gotham royalty now, huh? Fuck it, why not. How about we match even more then? We all might as well stand out."
Olivia's eyes flash and her hair sparks. "This is a black tie event, so how about we all go in white? If anyone questions why my bodyguard matches us it'll be because I insisted on it."
Damian shrugged. It was clear he didn't care one way or the other. Victor grins. "Whatever my client wants, she gets."
"I can have everything ready by Monday so long as neither of you spontaneously grows in that time."
"Excellent. Now get to bed. You'll probably have more training in the morning." Olivia stuck her tongue out then hopped out of her seat to make her exit.
Victor watched her head down the hall before turning to Damian. "Did Arthur clue you in on what he's doing?"
Damian leaned back in his seat. "No, should I be worried?"
"Not sure but whatever he's got planned he's keeping it close to his chest. I trust he won't get in the way but I think he's collecting the rest of the fae in the city."
The young master Wayne rapped his fingers on his desk. "He's not dumb enough to form an army for us. That'll be too many people we need to keep quiet. I'll keep an eye on him. He should be expecting that much." Victor would nod then jog to catch up with Olivia. Damian would relay their plans for the benefit dinner to the rest of the Bat family. They may need to prepare accordingly with how close to the arrival date the event will be.
Late that night Victor lay awake beside Olivia stroking his calloused fingers along her nude back as she slept. The scars were not fading like they hoped. Beautiful as they were, it worried him that this was something she wasn't healing from. They were no worse but still. He smirked as her energy chased his finger up her spine. He pressed his luck and would see if it would happen again. Another harmless bolt raced up her back. She let out a soft groan then curled into him before her eyes fluttered open.
Her smile is warm as she rolls onto her back. "Hi," she yawned.
"Heh, hey, Sunshine," he said in a low voice. "You should go back to sleep." A familiar tingle along her skin picked up and she shifted up to kiss him. Another kiss followed and then another longer and deeper than the last. A pleased groan rose from his chest. "Mm, again?" he chuckles. "Starting to think you can finally keep up with me." She pulled him close for another kiss and he happily fell into it. He's just helping her get to sleep. No harm in helping.
Come morning Olivia is back outside enjoying flying laps around the estate. After a night of being perhaps a bit too insatiable it was nice to not have to walk around. There was fresh snow on the ground she would use her abilities to clear from the walk paths. As she drifted around the property she felt for her brothers. Jason was back down the mountain again, likely at his own place making preparations. Her father was home again, getting much needed rest but she knew he'd only be sleeping for so long. Maybe he'll be convinced she can handle another lightning strike. She thinks she can. Learning that she can fly with barely a thought about it she feels she can do anything really.
She spent most of her life being afraid of what she was and now she feels more herself than she ever has. A bitter version of her would be disgusted with how her family held her back. If they weren't under threat of attack she would have never known and would have been happy like she was before...right? Maybe she would have just gradually become less afraid but how long would that have taken.
She turned then reclined in the air, looking towards the sky. Her mind drifts to that stray fae at the Watchtower. They likely had no choice in what they did. Her grandmother must be a properly realized monarch. Whatever that must be. And what about her birth father? Going against both of them will be terrifying. Thinking she would have to face at least one made her scared. It's all so daunting.
Olivia takes a deep breath and feels herself getting closer to the ground. She wants to relax. Properly relax. She wants to go dancing with her friends. To go on another date with Victor. Enjoy half a movie night with her family. It feels like she's wanting too much.
Her body powers down and she lays in the snow by the tennis court. It's freezing but she doesn't want to move. She'll wait until she feels herself going numb then see how hard it is to electrify herself. No trouble at all. In time she feels Alfred approaching. He holds an umbrella over her as the snow begins to fall again.
"Mistress Olivia, are you quite alright? You've been laying there for some time," he points out while she rises to her feet and keeps herself lit up from the ankles down.
"I'm fine, just a little spacy is all," she said and followed Albert back inside. "A cold shock worked to bring me back to Earth."
"Mmhm, well for the sake of this old heart perhaps a cold shower will suffice for that shock?" he suggests while taking the time to shake off the umbrella before tucking it away by the door.
Olivia gives a weak smile. "That might be for the best. Sorry, Alfred." The shirt she left on a hall table was pulled on over her suit and Alfred quirked a brow.
"Stealing Mr. Zsasz's shirts now?"
Olivia's eyes were wide and she looked just as guilty as all those times he caught her sneaking cookies before a meal. "I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
"Mm, very well. I saw nothing." Alfred would smirk and lead the way to the kitchen. "But if questioned I will break easily."
She gasped with her mouth hanging open. "But you were spec ops for the British military!"
"Indeed and all that training taught me to pick my battles wisely. This is not one of them. Come along now, young mistress. I'm certain you've worked up an appetite after your flight this morning." Olivia puffed up her cheeks as she followed. That face has never worked on him. While helping to raise a young girl was a new experience all children have the same tactics. Bruce would often do the same.
Breakfast this morning was French toast, eggs Benedict and sausage. Olivia would take her meal at the kitchen table to save the counter spots for her slowly waking family. She would announce them to Alfred one after the other to allow him time to prepare another plate. First to rise was Damian as expected. He was alert and not disheveled meaning there was nothing to call him away last night. He took his plate and a coffee to the table to sit across from his sister and chatter idly about schoolwork. Their absence is being excused as an extended family emergency but their class work was to be caught up and delivered by Monday at the latest.
Next to arrive was Tim. He was up late studying between monitoring the city and he would need to head back to campus for an important test. He too took his plate to the kitchen table and sat beside Damian. He is in no hurry to see his little sister fly. They have plenty of time for her to show off. He's still so proud she got past her fear. Now no one in this family was afraid of heights.
Third to rise and quite late into breakfast was Victor. Getting up at this hour was still early for him. He took a black coffee with two sugars and a plate to settle by Olivia. As she leans over to kiss his cheek he arches a brow. "Is that my shirt?" he asked in a light tone.
Olivia would pout. "Yes."
"You broke sooner than I would have," Alfred points out while topping off cups of tea or coffee.
"Alfred!" Olivia huffed but off he went with a light chortle to start on the last breakfast for Bruce. He managed to come home during her morning flight and was in the cave.
Victor smiled and gently tugged at the collar of his pilfered shirt. "I don't mind, just thought that was something people only did in the movies or on tv."
"Rae does it too," Damian points out.
"What he's not telling you is he's increased the number of t-shirts he wears just so she can take them," Tim reveals with a snicker. Damian grows incredibly stoic but there's a slight bit of added color to his cheeks. Victor may just do the same or get a hoodie she can sleep in. "I am a proud sweater thief. Welcome to the club little sister!"
Ozone kicked up and mild crackling as she looked off. "I will eventually give it back."
"Eventually, huh? Guess I'll need to buy more shirts," Victor teased. That cute smile returned.
Olivia perked up as Alfred prepared a tray to bring to the cave. "I can help with that!" she called out to their butler and quickly rose from her seat to deposit her dishes in the sink.
"Absolutely not, Mistress. If you wish to assist me then you may help with the dishes," Alfred states and before Olivia can stop him he's off with Bruce's breakfast.
Olivia stamped her foot as her hair sparked. "I am not clumsy!" she growls.
"Yes you are," Damian affirms just beside her to set his dishes in the sink as well. He quickly jumps back snickering and is off. Olivia continues to fume but will focus on the dishes for now.
Tim quickly scarfed the rest of his food down now that Alfred wasn't watching him like a hawk. "Gotta hurry and get to class!" he announced. His dishes were dropped off and he gave his sister a quick hug before heading off.
And then there was only Victor quietly looking through his phone until he finished eating. He didn't bother announcing himself as he set his dishes in the sink then leaned into her. Olivia smiled and carried on washing then drying each dish. "Not gonna stop, even for a second are you?" he asked just barely above a whisper into her ear.
Static pulsed along her skin but she held fast and carried on with cleaning. "You could help if you're in a hurry to get my attention," she explains. He's behaving himself and she's keeping her own hands occupied. Being close to him like this is wonderfully calming and she wonders if her heart is syncing up with his like Jonathan said. "Victor, when all this is over can you take me somewhere?"
He perks up and steps back to allow her to turn and face him. "Anywhere you want, Sunshine." Bright honey eyes gaze into his and Olivia sees a light in them she's finding every time she looks at him now.
"I would like to visit my father sometime and maybe your parents too? That's if that's something you want to do," Olivia said in a warm voice. "I haven't been this year and I try to go at the very least once."
Victor gives an uneasy smile. "It's been years since I visited my parents' memorial." He saw no point. They're gone and never coming back so why bother? Maybe people find it cathartic?
Olivia touched his chest and smiled. "We don't have to go if you don't want to. We can do anything else and I can-"
"I'll go with you to your dad's grave, just maybe not to mine. Feels like there's one last thing I need to do before I uh...visit them." Olivia nods and hugs him with such a painfully sweet smile on her face. "After we should go dancing again, yeah?"
"Yeah, that'll be great. But I need to let you know, it's a bit of a drive."
Victor shrugged. "I figured. Kinda fucked up his family wouldn't let them lay to rest together." Is grave robbing okay if it's just to move a body where it should be? No girl should have to plan two trips just to pay respects to both her parents.
"They never liked me or my mother. I try not to think about that too much." Her smile held a bit of pain behind it. "You can't make someone love you no matter how much you want them to." Some things are simply not meant to be.
Victor stroked her cheek with the back of his knuckles. "Not everyone deserves your love but they should consider themselves lucky you'd even want theirs."
"Thank you, Victor." Her eyes shifted to the door. She didn't have to say a word. They wouldn't be alone in the kitchen much longer. It was best they cleared out. They'll venture through the manor and once at the gym Damian insists on sparring with Victor. With how restless he gets she can't really say a word against it.
"Yes! Time to move on to the brother that's wanted to kick my ass from day one!" Victor roared and prepared to fight.
Damian smirks. "Don't think you've got a chance against me. I'm not as slow as Todd is!" He leaned back to narrowly avoid a strike.
"Shut the fuck up and fight!" Victor said with a wild look in his eyes that Damian quickly matched. He met his match when it came to blades and Victor had to actively focus on staying ahead of him. True to his word Damian was fast and no less brutal than his brother. Victor's one main advantage was that he knew he was stronger than the youngest Wayne. His tactic with fighting Jason was to widdle him down until he could land a killing blow. That wouldn't work here. Any hit he could land had to count!
Olivia was honestly surprised either of them could move that fast on a full stomach. She would have thrown up by now! Her eyes narrowed as she followed each of them. Were they both going in with the intent to kill? They two broke away breathing hard. "Woo, get him!" she cheered.
"Just who are you rooting for?" Victor laughed.
"Whoever wins of course!" The smile she gave was bright as ever. "So good luck to the both of you."
"Tch, I'm not coming in second place in this. You're dealing with a real assassin now!"
"Does every Robin talk this much?" Victor grunts while coming in for an attack again.
Damian's wooden blade crashed into Victor's and was quickly turned to block the second coming in to slash at his side. "You should be used to this! Smack talk is how you throw your opponent off their game. Easy to rack up a hefty bodycount on distracted enemies!" He points out then slammed the handle end of his blade into Victor's stomach.
Victor jumped back and readied to attack. "My body count includes your sister!" he sneers and Damian stumbles. His punishment was the blunt end of one of Victor's daggers nearly slamming into his neck only to be stopped just in time. "Or did you mean a different kind?"
Olivia sighs as her face stops burning up. That was a dirty move but all is fair in a fight that could cost your life. No trick is too low if it means you survive. The two broke away again and prepared to initiate though who would make the first move. "Knowing your opponent makes it easier to rattle them with your words," Victor points out.
"I don't need a lecture from you!" Damian growls. There was something in his eyes Victor is sure he's never seen in him. Determination. He was just a second too slow. Damian was behind him, his blow was blocked but it was a distraction! He took too long to recover and the young Robin swiped his feet out from under him and soon pressed his blade to Victor's throat. "You're too slow! I'm going to fix that!"
"Ugh, this feels familiar," Victor grunts then throws down his blades in defeat. That was exhilarating! He'll have to pick a fight with him again.
"See, I knew you could make him get serious," Olivia laughs. Who was she talking to?
~Olivia, please meet me in my office.~ came Bruce's voice through a hidden speaker.
"Okay!" she called out and quickly got to her feet to leave.
"Wait! Who were you cheering for?!" Damian called out after her.
"Yeah, Sunshine, tell us!" She was gone and once down the hall she took off running! She can let them sort it out themselves! In all honesty she was cheering for the both of them. They needed to provoke each other into taking their fight seriously. Maybe if she wasn't in the room they would have begun as such. They weren't letting her get away without an answer it seemed. She squealed and tried to run faster! The one thing that stopped her from maintaining her lead was waiting for the entrance of the cave to open!
Victor snatched her up and held her in his arms while she laughed and crawled in excited static. "You're going to answer our question!" he growls.
"I will not!" she laughed then squeaked when Damian popped up. "No no no no!" He started poking at her exposed sides and she squeals and kicks. The energy she puts off is stronger but Victor still manages to hold her. "Ah! Stop!" she laughed with her face turning red.
"Answer us!" Damian demands with a smirk on his face. Bruce cleared his throat while watching this scene from the doorway. Damian ended his harmless assault and stood beside Victor with his head held high. "Good morning father!"
Victor adjusted his hold on Olivia until she was sitting held up by one arm. "Mr. Wayne, sir! We have delivered your daughter," he said, barely containing a laugh.
"Put me down!" Olivia giggled. Once free she adjusted her shirt and smiled at her father. "I did run here. Clearly I was detained."
"Clearly," Bruce chuckled. "Now, I've pinpointed a few storms that are just starting. It's been long enough. Do you want to try for a second strike?" Damian and Victor looked between each other then back at Bruce. He couldn't be serious.
Olivia's heart raced but she gave a firm nod. "Yes!" she states with her hair sparking. "I think my capacity has expanded and I can handle more! I need to try." She smiles and looks at Victor and then Damian. "I know you two are worried but I'll be fine this time. I can feel it." They both grumbled but couldn't protest if she wanted to do this. With a warm smile she bumped her forehead to Damian's and kissed Victor's cheek. "I'll be fine." Facing her father she is still smiling. "I'm ready."
Bruce looked between the two young men then back at Olivia. "Then let's begin." He led the way back into the cave with more of an entourage than he intended. He couldn't blame them for being worried. He was still concerned this would be the kind of damage that would be irreversible. "The moment you take in the energy, keep talking to me. I need to know everything that you feel happening. If it becomes too much to hold onto again do not hesitate to release it all."
"Yes sir!" Olivia says while following close behind him.
"We'll choose the most secluded location so we can remain there as long as we need to. If you two are coming along then masks up."
"Of course, father," Damian replies. Victor simply gave a grunt in agreement.
"Dad, do you think you know why the marks on my back showed up?" she asked. Something told her he already had a theory he was working out. Once in the cave Damian and Victor grabbed their masks as well as insulated gloves.
"I believe your body is trying to grow to compensate for the extra energy. The marks on your back may actually be stretch marks." Victor and Damian paused in their preparations. The drones swirled around her with one transfixed on her back. Victor's shirt was removed and set somewhere safe while she readied herself on the platform.
"But I didn't get any taller? And I didn't get any wider either."
"There's a chance you shrank back down but this is all just theoretical," Bruce explained. "If the drones can't capture the change for whatever reason we'll have to use an analog solution." He held up a length of insulated wire. "You know the vital spots to measure. Are you ready?" Olivia nods. Bruce looks towards Victor and Damian as they move to stand on the platform beside Olivia. He passes the wire to his son. "Good. We'll be in the Republic of Congo again."
"How are we going there again?" Olivia asks with a tilt of her head.
"It's the most common location for the storms we need being so close to the equator. The varying fronts make it the ideal location for such volatile weather." Olivia sighed. She probably could have looked that up if she thought to do so. The portal opened up and the trio and the drones stepped out into the now familiar planes of Africa.
"Well better here than someplace cold," she muttered then held still for her examination while Victor and Damian got into position. She smiles at Victor. He must know she'll be fine. "Ready!"
~Begin.~ one drone sounds off with Bruce's voice. She changed to herself-called true form. Her eyes slowly opened and she lingered in this state for a minute. That should be enough time for them to get what readings they need. Her hand raised up and called down the sky. Like all the times before she found herself lighter than air and off the ground. The tight feeling across her body, especially around her throat, was back. There was that power again. Now to return to the ground.
"It feels like I'm wearing clothes that are just a little too small for me," she explains while holding a hand for the wire. Damian tossed it to her then refocused on her. He and Victor were looking for any sign of distress she may be hiding. A hitch in her voice, a tremble of her hands as she measured herself. Anything.
Around her chest was measured above and below her bust, her waist then around her hips. That one may not be needed. With each measurement she held the wire out where her fingers met then tossed the wire back to Damian when finished. "Suppressing it all now." The more apparent itch was ignored. Her grandmother was tugging away, possibly hoping for a response. From head to toe her energy folded into her and she collected it all along her spine like before and then exhaled. Her body felt so warm.
Olivia took labored breaths but stayed put. "It's hard to breathe now. Everything feels tighter and itchy!" Her hands raised but she held back on scratching herself. Not again. She needs to maintain control. "Give me a timer for five minutes! That's how long it usually takes for me to adjust. There was a charge along her skin while she paced about waiting for that time to pass. Every now and again she waved and smiled at either Victor or Damian.
"How's it going Sunshine?" Victor asked while feeling it was safe enough to stand closer to her. Damian glanced at a drone then closed in as well.
"I've felt worse," she admits. "I could really use a cold shower."
"Now you like cold showers?" he chuckles. "Halfway there. Hold out a little longer." She nods.
"Your temperature went up to about the same as last time but your heart rate is far more stable," Damian points out. This was already better than last time. "'Ukht, breathe!" Olivia exhaled the breath she was holding then smiled weakly.
"I don't get why this makes me feel like my skin is too tight and also just...so alien to me! Why is it so itchy?!" she whined. After a quick look around she took one of Victor's gloved hands in both of hers. "If I hold on to you I won't scratch. Your minds are so active right now. Something happened, didn't it?" Victor squeezed her hand. They were being told to say nothing it would seem. "Are you sure my pulse is stable?"
"Yes, now focus," Damian assures. "How are you feeling?"
Her hands twitched in Victor's grasp. "It's easier to ignore but it feels like a weak person is trying to strangle me. I might just explode. Time?"
~Complete. Do what you need to then return home.~ Victor let her hands go and Olivia darted away to take off in her electrified state. This felt better now. She climbed higher. ~Olivia, focus.~
"Sorry I just need this right now," she exhaled. After bringing herself closer to the ground she threw out energy until she felt that new normal again. Still no rain. With her feet back on the ground she returned to her human state and ran back to Victor and Damian. "No longer itchy and I feel I can breathe easy again." The two nodded and the portal opened to return them to the cave. She hurried over to the abandoned shirt and pulled it back on. The suit was failing in the places she knew it would; along her ribcage, across her collarbone and along her pelvic bone. "I need a higher heat resistant material for another suit," she said as the boys settled back in. "Be honest, what's the damage?"
Bruce did not look away from the computer's massive screen. Images of Olivia before, during and after the experiment were shown. The numbers along one side of the screen she recognized as her measurements. They each went up half an inch. "While containing your energy your body did expand, there was a slight shift in your height as well," Bruce explained. More images showed the length of her hair increasing as expected, a difference in the amount of light she put out and the expansion of the marks along her spine with the ones that ran the length of her consistent with how much she grew. "The amount of energy you expelled was not equal to the amount you took in."
"I discharge as much as I need to until I feel normal again. Should I let it all go?" Olivia asks. Victor was right behind her inspecting her back. He could feel the temperature difference between where just soft tissue was and where bone was present.
"Hold on to all that you can. We won't push this any further," Bruce says. If they had more fae like her around to experiment with they could get a clear picture on what was happening to her. "You did well in maintaining control."
"It helped to know what to expect," she sighs. "Do you need to keep monitoring me? I'd really like to take that cold shower right now."
"I have all that I need. Try to relax or burn off as much energy as needed."
Olivia would nod and begin to leave but stopped just a few feet away. "Can we not ask Jon for more help? Outside of someone to fly with I don't want to have him be target practice or anything. He flinched when I bumped into him. I could really hurt him if I was actually trying." She was rubbing her arm and stopped when Bruce took notice. "Even if he says he can handle it I can't hurt a friend."
Bruce sighed, closed his eyes and nodded. "Okay, sweetheart." As Olivia leaves Damian and Victor try to follow. "You two are staying here. Give her space."
"What if she doesn't want space?" Victor asked. This man wasn't the boss of him and if his girlfriend needs him by her side he's going to be there.
"I watched your sparring session with Damian," he states and even pulled up the video feed from the cameras installed in the gym. What a way to dodge a question.
"Of course you did," Victor grunts. "It was enlightening to say the very least. I'm being far more careful of the hits I take now and that's slowing me down. I might also be pulling my hits a little."
"Mm, figured that was the case," Damian sneered. "You can hit me as hard as you can. I'm not made of glass, but you need to be fast enough to land a hit first!" Victor narrowed his eyes then brought his attention back to Bruce. More tests. He was growing sick of these.
"Normally I'd encourage you two to push your limits but neither of you is going to gain anything significant without breaking something. You both have two missions to be concerned with right now. We need you at your best." The silence that followed was their dismissal and both young men left the cave without a word.
Upstairs Victor grumbles. "Lectures are getting old!"
"You'll never get used to them, just more annoyed because he's usually right," Damian scoffs. "Rematch postponed to after all of this mess."
"Hell yeah it is. I'm going until I get a win in," Victor said, sounding determined. "I'll go check on our girl." Damian gave a small wave and they parted ways. Victor found Olivia's bedroom door shut. He'd give a knock then stepped inside. The shower was running behind a second shut door. Her suit and his shirt were thrown onto the bed and he inspected the holes he spotted on her. If they can find the right material she may have a new one in no time.
At the closed bathroom door he knocked again. She may very well want space. "Come in!" she called out. Inside he found Olivia in her tub with the shower head aimed at her back and she hung over the back of it. "I'm okay. Just burning up a little."
The bathroom door was shut behind him as he came to crouch by the tub with his hands pressed together. "Are you really?" he asked.
She searched his face for anything that would allow her to lighten the mood. "No. I'm scared...again," she sighs. "I'm destroying my body and only gradually getting somewhere."
Victor bowed his head, traced the tiles of the floor with his eyes then looked back at her. "I don't know if you're destroying it or not but you're not in pain, right?"
"Not pain, just uncomfortable. I had to literally have my hands held to keep from peeling off my own skin and I'm presently taking the coldest shower of my life."
Victor checked to see if that was true. "It could be colder," he snickers. That got her smiling. "I told you they're better for your skin. Better than the lava you bathe in!"
"I want to be happy in a shower, not miserable!" she huffs. "Alfred caught me laying in the snow today. I was trying to go numb. Figured it would calm my mind a little more without throwing away energy."
"Did it?" Her stare was her answer. "Do you know anything that does help?"
She smiled and looked away. "An orgasm."
"Is that why you kept coming at me last night?!" he laughs. "I'm not complaining but damn, let me know I'm providing a service next time."
"That was just a bonus. My libido has been going into overdrive from all this energy. I just didn't tell anyone because they don't need to know that! Starting to see why fae evolved pregnancy needing to be voluntary. There'd be too many of us." She sat up and tipped her head back to let the water fall over her hair then slipped back into that comfortable position again. "I can achieve the same numbing effect on my own."
"Nice to hear I'm unnecessary," he jokes. Olivia flicked water at him in protest. She said nothing to that effect at all. "Do keep calling on me because I've certainly had a mighty need for you since all this training for you began." She giggled with a mild static crawling along her body. "Something about you getting stronger is really doing it for me!"
"God, Mel was right," she giggles. "Some people just want to be stepped on."
Victor shrugs. "I mean if you're into it, I'm into it. You zapping me is more my thing. It was a joke at first and then I felt it! Mm, yes more please." Olivia sat up to kiss his nose with a harmless zap. "I love you, Sunshine so it hurts me to have to do this." Olivia arched a brow then watched as his hand reached for the faucet. The water was made colder and she squealed.
"WHY!?" she whined.
"I'm very familiar with how you look when you're ready to jump me," he explains. "Down, girl."
"I just want kisses!" she says through a fake cry.
"Lies. If we were at my place, I would wear you the fuck out but we're not and you need another form of decompression that isn't your toes curling." Olivia scrunched up her nose now that she was comfortable with the temperature of her shower. "I don't like being the reasonable one here."
"Okay, Wolfy," she sighs. She's not an expert at seduction. What works on him only works because she's Olivia. He narrowed his eyes then turned the water colder and smirked as she squealed. She darted to the other side of the tub to turn off the water. "Rude!" she hissed.
He cackles as he gets to his feet. "I never claimed to be a good person, Sunshine." He leaned down to kiss the top of her head while she continued to glare. "I've got research to get to since your dad doesn't want me and your brother breaking each other before this small mission."
Olivia sighed while hanging over the tub's edge. "You're actually going to listen to my dad?" she said with a tilt of her head. "The real game has begun and I will not be caught in the crossfire!" She got out of the tub and wrapped a towel around her body. Electrifying her hair dried it faster than a hair dryer or towel could. Victor arched a brow and followed her out. What game? He could feel a prickle on the back of his neck and it wasn't coming from Olivia's energy.
"Mm, you got a marker I can borrow?" he asked while staring at her bedroom door. He didn't close it behind himself. Olivia rummaged through her desk and found a large black marker. "Thank you, babe." He said in a low voice then kissed her cheek. "Wish me luck!" Victor opened the door and stepped outside, pulling it shut behind himself. He glanced left then right. No one in sight. There was the slightest creak. Victor dodge-rolled to the right as Damian came crashing down in front of Olivia's door with a wooden blade in his hand. 'Was he on the fucking ceiling?!' No, there was the slightest bit of dirt falling from the moulding over the door.
Damian paused then tilted his head to the right. "Is that a marker?" he asked.
"It's quieter than the wooden knives. Also what I could find on hand," he explained. Damian nodded and before he could turn to knock on Olivia's door she handed him a marker.
"Keep me out of this!" she yelled then slammed the door shut. Damian smirks, shakes his head then looks to where Victor was. He was gone. Game on.
For the next few days this game of assassin was what kept Damian and Victor occupied when they would rather be sparring. Quiet, unnoticed kills were the aim and at no point were either of them safe. If they landed a mark on a vital spot but someone else in the house saw it was a loss. At lunch, while trying to workout alone, even while sleeping. A line was crossed when Olivia did get involved. Damian attempted to remove his sister from the equation while she slept beside Victor. His hand was caught before a mark could be landed and had his throat slit in the process. It was a loss for the both of them as Olivia woke and zapped them out of fright. Victor would sleep alone from that night on until they ended their game.
At some point Victor snuck in an airsoft gun into the game. It's silent compared to a real gun after all. So now this could be a ranged fight as well. They shot, slashed and at one point Damian shot a suction cup at Victor's head. Cute! By the end of their game Victor was still behind with nine points to Damain's eleven. Olivia was just happy they were done. Having two assassins sneaking around the manor was far more distracting than it should have been! Imagining this contest carrying on longer gave her a headache but Bruce seemed pleased with the results of telling the boys not to hurt each other. This family is so strange.
