– So, his holiness finally comes down to mingle with us mere mortals... – said Kanon without looking away from the papers in his hand

The man behind the bar almost jumped out of his skin when he saw a masked figure approach them from the door. Luckily, it didn't show.

– So, this is where you run to and hide from me? I pictured it differently – replied Saga

– A vice den? – only then Kanon put the papers down and turned around

– more like your dorm

– Come on. My dorm is pristine.

– mainly because you are never there

– Can't deny that. – Kanon shrugged

– So I figured since you kept everything in check over there you'd go make a mess somewhere else.

– Nop. I try never to leave a trace.

– Aha...

– The real question is what are you doing here?

– Today's Thursday... – Said Saga

– It's Wednesday... – Kanon looked at the captain

– Thursday, kiddo – He replied

– One day less until the festival. Shit, I'm sorry...

– Can't blame you. That's why I use agendas.

– Abuse agendas. I also stood up Angelo...

– Shura fixed that. He told me since you stood up Angelo you might have messed up days again and might have stood me up too, so he suggested I come to you instead. He knew where to find you.

– He knows far too much then. I might get rid of him at some point.

– Sure thing. But before you do, is there any place around where we can have lunch?

Only then Kanon noticed Saga had a paper bag in his hand. Had he brought the food?

– for real?

Since Saga nodded Kanon looked at the owner wondering if there was any problem with them staying, but no. So Kanon pointed at the chair next to him

– In here? – Asked Saga concerned

– The captain is a foreigner, he wouldn't mind. The bar is closed so nobody would enter either. I'll cover you if someone does.

Saga hesitated a bit before taking a seat and removing the mask.

– Thanks

– Captain Collins, meet my older brother Saga

– The pope at Athena's? An honor I guess – for once Saga was grateful he wasn't so ceremoniously addressed. The captain was somewhat surprised at finally getting to meet Kanon's twin. He looked overall normal, pretty Kanonish. After everything he had heard about that man, he wasn't sure what to expect. One thing was different, and distinctive, that Saga guy looked pretty worn up, at soul level. Something the captain had only seen when he served on the front lines. He was immediately intrigued. In comparison Kanon looked rather worried, maybe distracted, but not nearly as exhausted. – Is the mask a requirement?

For a moment there Kanon panicked for such a sharp interrogatory to the pope, maybe Saga wasn't in the mood to be disrespected or something. But looking at his serene demeanor, the younger man relaxed.

Saga considered the question.

– It's supposed to be Athena's face. "Only the pope might wear it to show his words are her will". – The lack of conviction was evident – Actually I shouldn't be using it out of duty... – Saga frowned, only then it occurred to him it might be disrespectful for the mask to keep casually using it – old habits die hard, I guess – maybe he should return it? He served the food.

– Where you concerned we were spotted together out here? – Asked Kanon grabbing his share and offering some to the captain with a gesture.

– What's the big deal? –asked the Captain, declining the invite

– remember the superstition issue?

– That twins are a bad omen?

Saga flinched, but continued what he was doing. Their host was a foreigner, "he asks because he ignores local folklore..."

Kanon nodded.

– The folks still don't know Athena's pope is the gold Gemini saint's twin.

– Would they even hold such a superstition against their religious leader? – The captain was skeptical

– We don't know yet. We aren't very optimistic about it.

– Gemini saints had a very bad record already among Athena's ranks. Not the most loyal or even mentally stable...

– Although he is not the first pope with a twin, he is the first Gemini pope with a twin. The plan was to first make some points and then break it. Also, because the previous administration was a mess. Fortunately, nobody knew the actual identity of our previous pope.

Well, the captain got the hint, but "nothing could be proved", right?

– Well, you don't need that mask in here, pal.

Saga blinked surprised – Thanks...

– So, how does it feel to impersonate me out there? – Said Kanon pointing at Saga's regular cloths

– Like hell. For someone who tries not to leave a trace, you are well known around. I thought you disliked social activities, but almost every single sentient being out there found themselves in the mood to greet you. I don't think I pulled it right. I'm really not used to... Engaging ... Strangers...

– You are not used to stepping out of the sanctuary at all – Kanon mocked his brother, he just frowned – I dislike large gatherings. Social networking is a necessary evil

– oh, I thought gossiping was the term for that – Saga almost smirked, almost

– The more you know... – Kanon didn't take any offense, he patted his brother in the shoulder instead – Well, you could have just vanished like I used to

– You are way more proficient than me at such tricks. – Saga rolled his eyes and concentrated on his food – I know I can fool a handful of people, but not such a large changing crowd

– you have no idea how handy that is, you should try it more often

– yeah, no doubt.

– does the pope drink? – said the captain approaching them from around the counter and pouring Kanon a drink he wasn't expecting. Saga's look of confusion met a side glance from the old man

– He does – said Kanon raising his glass and taking a sip. Saga looked at him still confused then held the low ball offered – add it to my tab.

– you sure? – asked Saga

– yeah, no worries. You look like it might do you good.

– thanks. – Saga rose the glass and took a sip too, such rich scent…

The captain left the bottle on the table and went back to the counter. Somehow he was expecting Saga to flinch or something, but the man didn't even wince. "like brother, I guess"

– So, ready for the party? I bet it is rewarding to lead such a huge project and have it all running smoothly on schedule? – said Kanon with confidence

– not all of it, and certainly not smoothly

– there you go. Why not? If you meant the incident with Aioria, that's a minor set back. Those are all over the place, you'll never shake them off. Contention measures were deployed and will be back on track by tonight

– And Shaka?

– It's been taken care off too… Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the preparations were uneventful, I'm just confident in our overall ability to spot fires, put them off before they spread and repair what's needed.

– I envy your serenity

– We are on schedule. Tomorrow I'll greet the guests of honor, have them settled, give them the tour and next day we kick off the whole event.

– Yeah… – Saga was far from thrilled. Kanon figured he must be already exhausted by the preparations. Knowing his brother, continuing to talk about that will only stress him further instead of reassuring him so the younger Gemini stood up and approached the old jukebox. The older twin just watched his brother walk around like he owned the place but didn't say a thing. He was more curious than anything.

– Hey, old man, where did my music go? – he said in a heavy accented English

– check the last albums listed. I got some new ones yesterday.

– new for the machine, bur certainly older than me – he added back in Greek

– you nailed it. – replied the captain from his way to the kitchen

– let's see what you got…Elvis? Really? You gotta be kidding me! – complained Kanon loud enough to be heard all the way to the kitchen.

– my jukebox! – said the captain – you are free to bring stuff, yet you never do. You know I won't complain.

– where am I supposed to get them? Most of what I know is because of you! You know we don't have radios just laying around.

– maybe not – the captain came back with a box of bottles he began to organize behind the counter – but you are always humming tunes you didn't hear here. Care to share a few if you don't like what's there.

– yeah yeah – Kanon just pushed a button and the voice of a man filled the bar – "Fly me to the moon, let me swing among the stars…"

– "play among the stars", Frank Sinatra? Kid, that's way older! – the captain laughed.

– that, "let me see how spring is like, in Jupiter and Mars" – Kanon went back to sit – "in other words, quit messing with meee".

– darn brat! You are ruining the song!

– "in other words, I'm ruining the sooong"

– oh, damn you. Clean that up when you are done! – The old man threw his keys on the counter – I'll be at the back

– "he'll be at the back so let me sing forever wroooooooong…"

– at least sing properly! – said the captain from his way out – you can do better than that

– "in other words, he'll kick my aaass"

– you bet!

Saga didn't get what they said but it was clear that Kanon was not singing the proper lyrics. Still it was funny to watch his brother fool around with the owner. For once he was smiling

– "in other words, I forgot the reeeeest…" He always scolds me when I change the lyrics – He reassumed eating.

– this is the bar where you used to work?

– the very same, my bed was in the basement. The captain got it so I could stay.

– what a kind man

– why don't you take a nap? – said Kanon after they finished their food

– eh?

– it's early, nobody will miss you. There's good music and we aren't expecting anyone. Put some chairs together and throw some z's. I'll wake you in an hour.

Once Saga finished eating, he acknowledged how tired he really was, so he did as Kanon suggested and put some chairs together to lay down. To Kanon's surprise, he fell asleep pretty fast.

And he began dreaming of a beautiful day outside, far down the creek. He must be getting close to Cape Sounion, by the opposite side, his hideout would still be far. If he walked inland, there should be a village around. The herd of goats that he found was evidence of that. But, no wait… where do so many goats come from? Were they alone? There was nobody looking after them. But then he heard a scream close by.

He ran instinctively. He found a barn behind a line of trees and someone was definitely inside

– mom!

– please!

He went in. A kid was curled up on a corner, a woman was laying on a pile of hay an a man was standing over her with something on his hand

– and who the hell are you? Out of my property!

Saga was furious, he could easily tell both the woman and the kid had been injured and the man was not exactly on his 5 senses, but Saga himself wasn't thinking too clearly either.

– back off… immediately… – he growled

The man was downright intimidated and did as told, and the kid ran to his mom. Then the whole place turned wavy

– gradpa…? – the kid was still scared

– huh?

– Saga! – an eerie voice called him from far away – Come back!

Saga froze still for a moment. The barn had disappeared, he was somewhere else sitting on a wooden floor.

– Kanon?

– Saga, what happened? – Kanon helped him up.

– I what? – luckly there was nothing out of place in the bar, besides the chairs he had fell from – I was dreaming… what time is it?

– time to go, I think.

By looking at the clock on the counter, Saga realized he must have slept for almost 3 hours.

– why didn't you wake me up sooner?

– you needed it.

– Sorry to disturb you – Saga turned to the captain who was standing next to Kanon – I'll take my leave now.

He picked up the mask and walked out.

– Hey! Wait for me! – Kanon quickly picked up his stuff from the table.

– hey kid – mumbled the owner in English, Kanon looked up at him – do you know what post–traumatic stress disorder is? – he had seen Saga tense up, fall from the chairs, and with raging eyes, look at his brother without recognizing him at all – You better get him checked – although not exactly what he had seen before, he couldn't think of anything else, and got seriously concerned.

– yes, I'm on it, captain. Later!

Kanon followed his twin out. Saga was waiting under a tree, hoping nobody would see them.

– done.

– another dimension – they arrived to Gemini temple

– ok, now. You are nervous and it's getting contagious, what's got into you this time?

Saga ignored the weird emphasis on his last words.

– I've been having these dreams…

– that just now was not a dream, you were this close to send us to another dimension. Since when?

– since you took me to Dokko's therapy, far from helping me relax, it's making me anxious. I got… I got this overwhelming feeling that I should be somewhere else, doing something else. I can hardly stay still. Something is off.

– and just now you are telling me?

– I couldn't find any hard evidence of anything being off. So far, it's only me.

– we are Athena saints. An overdeveloped 6th sense is a requirement for the post. It might be just you, but we need to be sure. You are not pope just for your looks.

– I don't want to create panic or overstress people in the ranks. The festival starts tomorrow, and everyone has been working hard for it.

– we are not amateurs. We must still be on guard. At the very least we must alert the gold saints and check with Shion

– no, not Shion

– huh? Since when do you keep stuff from him?

– what makes you think I confide everything to him?

– when we were kids, you were always pope Shion this, pope Shion that. It was annoying and part of the reasons why I can't stand him.

– we were just kids, we had just lost dad and there was nobody else to turn to, if you recall.

– yeah, you are right… I never liked him trying to lecture me…

– it shows… but you should give him a chance, he did try his best

– I know!

"Hate me, please, I beg you

Hate me without restraint or mercy

I rather have your hate than your indifference because

Resentment means way more than oblivion"

Night at the sanctuary caught several saints down at Gemini temple: Camus, Shura, Milo, Angelo, Aphrodite and the Japanese bronze kids were there with the excuse of reviewing their duties for the next day. Since it was a nice evening, and the private quarters were not as comfortable for that many visitors, they moved to the atrium

"If you hate me I'll then be convinced

That you loved me with persistence

Let's keep in mind according to experience

That one can only hate what is dear"

Shura and Seiya began playing the guitar on Gemini stairway, while Camus played violin. Kanon, Angelo, Aphrodite and Milo were not so far away, playing cards sitting on the floor. Shun and Hyoga were just lazing about when some unusual visitors appeared going up the road.

"What is worth more? Me humble and you proud?

Or is your weak beauty worth more?

It doesn't matter, at the bottom of the pit

We all will wear the same garment"

– Guys, someone is coming… – Called Shun – I think Mu is escorting someone up

– Aldebaran is out, isn't he?

The gold saints hid the cards and drinks, while Kanon went to find out what was going on. Technically he could only stop people at his temple, not in the stairway but, oh, hell, he had to buy time for the others to set the place straight. Shura, Camus and Seiya stopped playing

– Good evening, gold saint Gemini Kanon – greeted Mu. – I got you some visitors

– Good evening, gold saint Aries Mu…

– Good evening, gold saints Gemini Kanon, Aquarius Camus, Capricorn Shura, and bronze saint Pegasus Seiya… – He couldn't see the other saints inside from where he stood

– silver saint Cetus Moses, – Kanon recognized his voice, he assumed the other kids should be his disciples – Alec, Magda and… Homer, right? – The kids were amazed that he remembered their names considering they haven't seen him since the incident at the market – Are you looking for me?

– Yes, my disciples would like a word with you. Do you have a moment? We know it's late, but it won't take long.

As Kanon turned to the kids, Mu spoke with Shura and Camus

– I had no idea you played music like that, it was great

– Thank you, Mu

– What's the name of the song?

– No idea

– Kanon frequently hums it

– and you figured out the melody from that?

They nodded. Mu concluded they ignored the lyrics Kanon was so loudly thinking about a moment ago. Mu could clearly make the meaning even when they were in a foreign language

– Hi… uhm… Gold Saint Gemini Kanon… – It was the girl the first one to talk – We heard you won't be attending the festival, but… – Well it was nobody's secret he hadn't been willing to attend any social events, but apparently the word of him going out with Mu hadn't spread just yet. Good. Gosshipers were too busy lately. – We would like you to witness our challenge

– Huh?

– We'll be competing to get our cloths on the final day of the festival

– Would you do us the honor of being our witness? – The three kids were nervous and exited

– But Moses, aren't you attending? – Asked Seiya

– I will, – The silver saint answered, and he turned to Kanon – But I too would like you to at least attend the challenge, if it is not too much trouble

– Being witness of the challenge and assignment of a cloth is an honor and a duty mostly reserved for mentors

– Well, if it weren't for you who knows where we would be – Said Alec.

Camus and Shura were surprised yet nothing in their faces showed it.

– Certainly not in here today

– Well, we do are grateful to you

– Alright, I'll be there – Agreed Kanon, although he didn't look quite pleased

– Thanks!

– Great!

The kids were so excited Kanon feared maybe they'll have trouble sleeping.

– Have a good night…

– You too – They cheered from the way down

Kanon watched them go then turned back up.

– Who'd say, Gemini Kanon got fans – Said Angelo in a teasing tone once he joined back the game. But he refused to talk about how they met.

They only had one more play, and once they finished their drinks everyone left for the night since next day was sure to be madness.

Saga was walking in darkness, an unnatural darkness. He couldn't see a thing, so he moved cautiously. He had the certainty that if he made any sudden move everything around him would be lost. And although waking up was desirable since this recurrent nightmare was rather repetitive, he felt he could figure out its meaning if only he could stay there a bit longer. Every time he had this dream, he learned something new about it, so he had long ago concluded it was not a regular manifestation of his daily stress. It had to be something else. In this particular occasion, he was certain he was not alone, because he could hear voices, children voices, muffled as if they were behind some walls. But he could not make anything out of those voices, he couldn't get any emotion from them. Fear? Happiness? Anger? Surprise? He couldn't tell, but he had to find out, because they were too familiar. Then he stopped walking, there was something… someone in front of him, not too far away. He tried to focus on that person…

Kanon was getting dressed in his dorm. The sun wasn't even out, but he had to leave early to escort Saori's guest to Rhodorio. He was in a hell of a mood. Wasn't there any other idiot to serve as tourist guide? Well, it had been his idea after all, if there was someone fit to carry it out that would be him. but he had strictly refused to dress in a suit or whatever made him look like a butler. He was a gold saint! Saga had requested something more formal as he would be a sort of ambassador, but he had to be content with a business casual look, if he wasn't allowed to use his usual spartan training outfit nor a regular tunic. And now that he was ready to leave wearing such unfamiliar clothes, he felt weird. Weird like… a regular person, an outsider.

"I'm one frill away from looking like Julian's assistant". Kanon almost ran for his tunics and even considered using the demon fist on himself… Athena saints were a bunch of shut ins. All great and mighty, but completely unaware of how the world worked out of the Sanctuary, the nearby villages and allied settlements. That's why he was appointed for the task. He was one of the few who had lived outside, if only as a kid. Therefore, he was the best they had to actually guide outsiders around without messing up.

"Freaking hell…"

But as he directed one more dirty look to his reflection in the mirror, he almost jumped out of his skin when said reflection looked rather worriedly back at him

And all the way back at the coliseum clinic, Saga startled Shaka by suddenly rising from the massage table where the Virgo was treating the pope.

– Eh? Shaka! I'm sorry – Saga laid down again.

– It's ok, we are done. – Said Shaka stepping back so the pope could sit properly. – What happened?

"Saga, are you alright?" Asked Kanon through cosmos "where are you?"

"At the clinic"

"On therapy?"

"Finishing" Saga took the clothes Shaka got for him – Not sure… – He answered Shaka's earlier question

"I'm ready to go, do you need anything?"

"No. Take care" What an unusual farewell. Saga began getting dressed.

"I'll be right back".

"Thanks, Kanon"

– Are you sure you are ok? – Shaka was not convinced. He detected something… unusual on Saga's cosmos just before the abrupt interruption.

Saga stopped for a moment. "If I reached Kanon then it wasn't just a dream" – I think I slid into an astral projection reaching for Kanon.

– Has that happened before? – Shaka was not very familiar with their ability

– Not sure, I think so. – Saga considered all the times he and Kanon had linked each other. It had happened under deep emotional stress. This time, it had been alike, but there was a key difference. As the pope had a very demanding day ahead of himself, using any drugs like the first time was out of the question, so Shaka had used his cosmos alone to induce Saga to relax, he had relaxed.

So, did Shaka's concentrated healing cosmos cause Saga to drift into some sort of trance that triggered the astral projection accidentally? If that was so, it was no surprise he could reach Kanon. But if that was so… who were the kids? Were they real? Where were they? How many? And why would Saga reach them like that, in a mere drift of consciousness?

Saga sighed. He'll try to pay more attention next time something like that happened, but for the time being he had other things to worry about. For starters, as Shion, Aioros and Dohko helped coordinate the activities, he would have to deal with Saori's guest just after Kanon. Ah, tourists…

Shaka didn't say anything else as he handed the pope's helmet to Saga. It was heavier than any mask or helmet from the cloths, he could tell since he had helped Mu during the repairs. Saga put it on as if it were nothing, but Shaka noticed how the pope hesitated before putting on the dark mask. "That's the real burden…"

That whole day the twins stayed with Athena's guests and had them settled. The festival would start next day, with the music contest. There were a few auditions in every village a while ago, and then the eliminatory during the past week. So, there were 10 entries, 4 individual players and 6 bands, and there were votes from the people and votes from the judges for a grade from 0 to 100.

– I never expected so many people would attend, counting the votes will be madness! – Said Milo to Mu while looking around

– It was a good idea to prepare a show for the wait – He answered – I still wonder what it would be

– No clue… Hey, it's starting! – Called Milo – What's Kanon doing there?

– Good night, everyone.

All the attendants turned to the stage.

– Scorpio Milo – Called Misty giving him an envelope – Aquarius Camus sends you this

– Huh? Thanks. What's this? – "Song translation. Read along" That's what it said on the outside. Milo began reading it. – A song? But this is Kanon's handwriting… – He looked back at his friend on the stage wondering why he would write such a corny song. And why would Misty deliver it?

– It looks like you have been enjoying our contestants, they surely are great. – Continued the Gemini at the front – Personally I wouldn't know who to vote for, so given how it is a thought decision we'll now grant our judges a moment to deliberate. In the meanwhile, – He sighed on the microphone – A few of us, Athena saints, have put together a little number for your entertainment.

– Hope this is not some stand up… – Said Angelo to himself

But at that point Shura, Seiya, Shiryu, Shoko and Alec appeared on stage behind him, escorting Athena. – Well, we are not good enough to participate, this is rather the result of a hobby of sorts, our duties don't leave good enough time to practice, so we apologize in advance also because we choose a foreign song to perform, although maybe some of you would recognize it. – Whispers ran all through the hall when the holy girl sat at the piano and the rest of her saints took the instruments from the stage. We hope we are not that atrocious either, but in case we are, please bear with us and rest assured it won't happen again. – He turned around to check if everyone was ready – Enough talking, let's get this over with already!

The lights changed to a spotlight shining upon Saori Kido at the piano, so the whole place went silent.

She played a few delicate notes when the spotlight shone on Kanon himself.

– "Maybe I didn't love you".

Saga, sitting among Saori's guests on the honor balcony, blinked surprised at Kanon's voice, he was not sure his hearing was right.

– "Quite as often as I could have…"

– No way in the freaking world! – Angelo voiced most gold saints' thoughts

– "And maybe I didn't treat you".

Well, it was not the first time Milo heard him sing, so he was unimpressed.

– "Quite as good as I should have."

– What language is that? – Asked Aioria to nobody in particular

– Sounds like English – Answered Aioros, not many of them were familiar with it

The lyrics were what impressed Milo. But, again, why would Kanon be singing such a corny song? No, wait a second…

– "If I made you feel second best,"

Well the envelope came from Camus, but where was he? The spotlights had just shone upon Seiya and Shura in the guitars, Shiryu in the drums and Shoko in the tubular bells.

– "Babe, I'm sorry I was blind".

Well, they didn't play so bad.

– "You were always on my mind."

Kanon then looked at him like scolding him for not paying attention, then he looked away.

– "You were always on my mind."

Milo blinked surprised as yet another spotlight turned on

Camus then appeared playing the violin, he walked in from the side of the stage.

The Scorpio held his breath, his heart stopped for a moment, yet the beautiful melody made it beat again.

– Camus! – "Is he playing for me…? In front of everyone!? And those lyrics…" Milo reread them.

As the Aquarius kept playing, the world around the Scorpio disappeared.

– "Maybe I didn't hold you

All those lonely, lonely times

I guess I never told you

I am so happy that you're mine

Little things I should have said and done

I just never took the time

You were always on my mind

You were always on my mind"

Saga noticed Camus played with his eyes closed. To avoid distractions? He was greatly concentrated on not messing up. How long had he been practicing? At the time when he signed the authorization to modify the program to include this performance, Saga had a lot of doubts, but it was really worth it. Just out of curiosity, he concentrated on locating Milo's cosmos to check if he was anywhere near. It would be a mayor waste if he missed it by chance. But Saga felt him walking through the corridors leading to the backstage. The pope couldn't help but smile

– "Tell me

Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died."

Milo then began running as if caught by a spell.

– "And give me

Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied.

I'll keep you satisfied."

Camus kept playing with all his heart. His cold cosmos created small ice crystals making enchanting visual effects all around him.

Waiting for his cue to continue, Kanon looked in the general direction where Mu should be mounting guard. Due to the lights, he could not clearly see him, he didn't even try to spot him, but he could feel his cosmos over there.

– "Little things I should have said and done

I just never took the time.

You were always on my mind.

You were always on my mind.

You were always on my mind.

You were always…

On my…

Mind"

As the last notes from the piano and violin faded away, the audience broke in cheers. Camus wouldn't dare open his eyes. As he felt Kanon's hand on his shoulder he just bowed to the public.

Mu had been enchanted. Something in Kanon's voice resonated deep within him and set him on a mellow mood. He had been so tense and restless all day, but then somehow, he felt at ease. It really was a weird sensation.

– Thanks! You are so generous. – As Kanon bowed too, Kiki couldn't help to notice that all that appreciation only annoyed the Gemini, and yet he managed to remain cool, just like that time at the plaza. – Our sweet Kido Saori on the piano, Capricorn Shura and Pegasus Seiya on the guitars, Dragon Shiryu on the drums, Equuleus Shoko on the tambourine and bells, Cadet Alec on the bass… please, louder! Help me get even here! – He kept Camus from fleeing the stage by placing an arm around his shoulders – Aquarius Camus, who would have guessed, right? On the violin! And you know me, or at least you should, Gemini Kanon on the mic. Good night, everyone, we leave you to enjoy the rest of the show. And remember not to get drunk with the wrong people lest they end up convincing you to do stuff you wouldn't even think of doing otherwise! Thank you so much!

– That man really can't take appreciation… – Said Kiki when he noticed Kanon strode out of stage

– Huh? What do you mean? – Asked Mu who was standing close by

– oh, I've noticed he gets annoyed when someone gives him recognition, I don't get why. Anyways, I'll go now.

– Don't stay out too late, Kiki. Have fun.

– I'll wait for the others at the snacks!

Once off the stage, Kanon wanted to let loose all his ill mood. But spotting a quiet person looking at them from around the corner set him on guard.

Yet, before the Gemini could say anything, the Capricorn had to take the Equuleus out of the way of the Aquarius that impulsively sprang forward to meet the Scorpio.

And also, before a concerned and slightly fearful Camus could even ask if everything was alright, Milo pulled him into a kiss and then hugged him.

– Mi… Milo?

Camus blushed up to the root of his hair. He had never been fond of being the center of attention or putting his emotions on display, which made a public display of affection completely unthinkable for him and yet he stood in the spotlight to dedicate his lover a violin play. And he was now sort of accepting a kiss and a hug from said lover, suppressing the instinctive reaction of pushing him away… Milo's brain suddenly restarted operations and made him let go of the redhead.

– I guess you… liked the song? – Asked a nervous Camus. For a moment there he had feared Milo would punch him for being so corny in public

– I loved it, thank you – Said Milo

– If that is so quit being stupid and take him to dinner or something – Said the Gemini annoyed – Out of my sight you two! – He snatched the violin from Camus as he pushed them out of his way. The lovers didn't even notice the aggression. They just looked into each other's eyes and went out by the closest exit. Watching them go, Kanon felt really miserable and gave the violin to Shura.

"I do need a drink".

But then he noticed others near said exit. Docrates and Babel flinched when Kanon set his eyes on them, which only served to piss him off more due to the fact his bad mood showed enough to intimidate them. Then he looked at the person next to them, but his anger like a wave crashed against him, washed him over and crawled back at its source without further immediate consequences, as if he were a boulder in the sea. Those green eyes were unaffected.

– Good evening, Heracles Docrates, Centaurus Babel… – Shiryu greeted the silver saints who seemed to be mounting guard there– Hi, Mu!

The Silver saints just nodded, unsure of how to behave before Kanon.

– Hello – Greeted Mu – That was an impressive performance, guys. Congratulations! – He purposedly avoided looking at Kanon

Shura nodded, but – Please excuse me… – He patted Kanon on the back before going down the hall somewhere else. He looked busy.

– Good night, Shura!

– Eh, don't leave me to die tomorrow! – Called Kanon as a good bye of sorts. Shura just gave him a thumbs up without turning around. Then he turned to Mu – Are you waiting for me?

– You asked me to – He answered politely

– oh, would you go to the festival together? – Seiya couldn't help being too loud and enthusiastic about it, implying if by chance they made amends, but Shiryu just stepped on his foot

– Hoi, Shoko, we'll meet the others at the games. – The Dragon quickly pushed the Pegasus towards the exit as he addressed the Equuleus – Would you like to join us?

– Eh, sure! – The girl accepted without a second thought, with her sixth sense telling her they must leave quickly, and that excuse was as good as any. Actually hanging out with other Japanese kids, even if they were all boys was relieving for her, so score! And double because she really wanted to go, but not alone, the other saintias would be very busy with their duties. She got a perfect chance!

– Kiki already went ahead, you might find him by the snacks – Said Mu

Well, maybe not. Shoko still didn't get along with that noisy runt. Oh, well…

– Great!

– We'll be leaving now, bye!

– Bye!

– Enjoy the evening! – Greeted the gold saint

– Are we meeting with Cygnus Hyoga and Andromeda Shun? – Asked Shoko as they rushed out

– Yes, also my friend Sunrei, and Cameleon June

– They should be waiting by now.

Alright, the chances of a fun evening increased.

– The guard is not over yet. – Said Kanon after the kids stepped out – Are you free to go now?

– I think so. – Mu was surprised as how Kanon had removed any trace of bad mood from himself in the brief moment he didn't paid him attention. Mu didn't recall meeting anyone capable of switching so fast to a neutral state. If anything there was some tiredness lingering around him – You can take it from here, right? – Said Mu turning to the silver saints

– Yes, thanks for your support! – The silver saints saluted Mu and Kanon

– Should we go? – He asked Kanon, the Gemini just nodded

– Is there anything you'd like to do? – Asked Kanon once they left the coliseum

– Nothing in particular, I'm not aware of what's going on around

– Well, there's a parade after the music contest, there's the public games Shiryu was talking about and some plays at Rhodorio plaza. Or if you are not in the mood for the town entertainments, there's a wide variety of places to grab some drinks or snacks around the last two locations.

– Let's go to the plaza then. What kind of plays?

– I don't recall the specific order, but I'm assuming the school play would be over by the time we arrive. That leaves us with the drama club and the actual theater school plays.

– Is there an actual theater school in Rhodorio?

– There is now. Maybe soon the school and the club will fuse…

They kept talking about the club and how the school came to be. Then, they moved to books and authors. Then movies, what a movie was and how Mu had never seen one from beginning to end, since the only TV he ever sat close to was at his favorite restaurant in Rhodorio but he never paid much attention to it because he was usually with someone else. Kanon hadn't seen many either, but recently he came across a few interesting suggestions from other people and he might get to watch one if the right conditions were met.

– What conditions?

– Get the movies, a place to watch them and how to play them, for starters. – Although he was rather thinking of someone to watch them with. Kanon was certain he could quickly figure out the other three difficulties if this one came out first, but he managed to detour from that topic – Saga is not quite fond of letting us have a TV in the Sactuary. It's not easy to dispute that, despite the educational and cultural value it can provide, its zombification potential is overwhelming. – Mu chuckled at the term, perfectly understanding what Kanon meant – Electricity is also an issue. I agree using our domestic generators to power up the appliance and required accessories is not worth it. "it'd increase our fuel consumption", he said, as if we'd get a full 72" 24/7 on for every single person, "but then how would you avoid people fighting over what to watch and when?". Maybe we could work out something with the school, like a movie theater of sorts, "Aren't there some copyright laws or something?" That killed it. He excels at giving me headaches for the most trivial things…

– Well, can't the people who suggested the movies to you help you find a way to watch them?

– I'm not fond of asking silly favors to people I barely know.

At that point, they arrived at the plaza. It now had a stage and many seats around it. The play had already started, but there were no seating restrictions, as it was a sort of street performance.

– No way… – Mumbled Kanon as Mu chuckled

– It was to be expected

Kanon was not in the mood to watch the Greek tragedy Ayax. But, yes, just as Mu said, it was to be expected that the plays chosen to be presented during the festival were classical Greek tragedies. The saints took seats as close as the stage and to the sides as possible, to be able to see and hear well but also to leave without much hassle.

The Gemini was not very willing to stay, he was even trying not to pay much attention to the play. But the actors were not that bad and once they caught Mu's attention it became difficult for Kanon to ignore it.

It was only when the character of Ayax committed suicide that Mu noticed Kanon was perhaps paying too much attention to the play. How wise would it be to leave without watching the end? But since his companion didn't give any further sign of discomfort than a frown, he remained seated. Once the funeral scene took place Kanon seemed to relax significantly and that puzzled Mu.

A lot of people got hooked on the performance so, when it ended there was a loud ovation.

– Let's go dine. – Requested Mu as he stood up from his seat. His movement, more than his voice, took Kanon out of his dark mood back to reality. He stood up and walked to the side, not sure where Mu would like to go next. – Everything has changed so much for the festival, I can't decide what to get.

Only then Kanon paid attention to their surroundings, thinking what there was that they would like.

"Something sweet, something bitter, something salty... An in–between, perhaps?"

– Did you say something? – Mu suddenly turning to Kanon, startled him

– Not yet. I was trying to recall if there was some different menu somewhere but that's rather Milo's specialty. – Actually, he was trying to recall a place with a good menu, even if it was the usual, but not so busy. The music contest was surely over and the number of people out with the sun already down was maddening. Such crowds had always made him uncomfortable; what was he thinking, inviting Mu to such an event? He yearned for some privacy, although as things stood it might be counterproductive. If there were at least a less noisy place where he could better hear Mu without invading his personal space, it'd be dandy.

It was Mu who pointed the direction and so Kanon followed him… To the very restaurant he and Aldebaran took him to share lunch for the first time so many months ago. But Mu didn't go straight in, he waited a bit outside still looking around for more options.

– If you like this place, I don't mind

Mu nodded and turned to the restaurant.

– I had the intention of trying something new, but nothing appeals to me

– Well, you can't go wrong in here – Kanon followed him – Even Saga likes the food, and he doesn't come out much

The hostess greeted them.

– Gemini Kanon, Aries Mu, are you dining with us tonight?

Mu was a bit surprised the girl knew Kanon, but then it occurred to him he was the only one with selective amnesia.

– Good evening, Sophia – Kanon nodded – A table for two

– Just the two of you? How unusual. Well, we got tables upstairs and at the back, which do you prefer?

"At the back?" Last thing Kanon knew they had arranged part of the second floor as terrace and now they served at the back too?

– At the back? – Mu asked Kanon, he just nodded

– Right this way – The girl guided them

– Hey, look! Isn't that Athena's blessed tenor, Gemini Kanon? – Io's sarcastic voice immediately made Kanon's blood boil. He was on a table to the saints left, Sorrento and Baian were with him – Now I get why you always avoided Sorrento's play. Ah, the secret rivalry.

– Good evening, Marinas – greeted Mu politely

– Siren Sorrento, Seahorse Baian and Scylla Io, meet gold saint Aries Mu – Being so formally introduced, all three marinas stood up and greeted the gold saints. That caught the attention of most local folk. The owners and workers tensed up due Kanon's stoic behavior, it was unusual. The tourists just wondered what was going on, but soon turned their attention back to their dinner. – I thought you would be escorting Julian tonight

– He dismissed us for the day, – said Baian – only Krishna is with him. We'll be back later.

So to deviate the tension, Sorrento addressed Mu

– It's been a lovely evening, congratulations. We appreciate the invitation was extended to us. Is there any other amenities you'd recommend for tonight?

– the vintner market two blocks north should be opening soon and there will be live music at the central plaza. – Mu had seen the advertisements while passing by – The artisans' market, four blocks west will open tomorrow morning. You'll need a program for anything else, they are at the plaza too.

In the meanwhile, Baian had asked for the receipt and a young boy brought it. So, he paid for the dinner.

– Thank you. We'll check those out.

But Io hadn't taken his eyes off Kanon.

– … I apologize if I sounded fake just now. – said Io – I see you are not in the mood for jokes. I was positively impressed. You ought to cut me some slack, you never showed interest in anything besides blasting stuff to bits and here you go slam your talent on everyone's faces so suddenly. I always thought you were full of surprises, and you don't disappoint. Never mind us and enjoy your well–deserved dinner. I guess you are fully booked for tomorrow events.

– Indeed. I'll be on guard duty – Mu's special emphasis was pretty evident for the marinas – and Kanon will participate in some events early in the morning.

– oh, at the coliseum? – asked Io. Mu nodded. – Knowing him we should rather cheer for the opponents since none stand a chance anyways at least they won't feel so bad. See you tomorrow then.

– Try the baclava if you are not finished – Kanon added to Sorrento.

– Good night! – Mu left with the waitress and Kanon followed him. The Marinas sat down to finish their dinner and Io ordered the baclavas.

– Would you like the menus? – the waitress was very nervous.

– Yes, please – Requested Kanon once they chose the table and sat down. – if those guys ask for anything else, add it to my tab, but be discreet.

The girl nodded and left.

– They won't try anything funny, will they?

– I doubt it. Unlike Hades, Poseidon would rather engage in direct confrontations. So, if they had been willing to create troubles, they would already be on it.

– were you friends with any of them?

– not really. If anything, I had a weird relation with Io, but I wouldn't call it friendship.

Mu dropped the conversation. Kanon once again sighed to get rid of his annoyance, since it wasn't helping his current situation… What a good choice of place, it wasn't as noisy as the street and was still outside.

– So, we didn't go out much, did we? – Mu's casual question took Kanon by surprise – Sophia was rather surprised to see just us

– Not to places like this one. I'm not fond of crowds.

– Where to then?

– The creek, the beach, the woods, the bottom of the cliff after the rains…

– The bottom of the cliff?

– To get your pottery supplies. I never thought there would be anything interesting in such a barren place. Although my sandals and pants hated you for it.

Mu took the menu, Kanon just briefly looked at it.

"The bottom of the cliffs? interesting?" Mu could not remember a single person who would have found it interesting to accompany him on an expedition for clay, that's why nobody ever joined him. It was usually a time for himself…

"Aren't you a bit old to be playing with mud?"

– Aries Mu, Gemini Kanon! Welcome!

– Hello, Elena

– I'll be your waitress tonight. Are you ready to order?

– My usual gyro and a glass of water – Requested Kanon

– I'd like yemista and also water

– Right away! – Said the girl picking up the menus

– I apologize for my lack of tact, I did not notice how uncomfortable you were at the play until the last act.

– Never mind, you seemed entertained. I had no idea you liked plays that much.

– Well, it is one thing to read the stories and another to watch them

– If you really think so then maybe you must stay clear of movies, or we'll lose you.

– I don't think it is the same. Movies are too far away, behind a wall.

– But got better especial effects

Quickly enough the girl came back with their dinner.

– Here you go… Do you need anything else?

– I'm good

– It's ok, Elena

– Alright, don't hesitate to call me – With that the girl hopped away

– And how did you all end up at the stage tonight?

– Just as I said, I got drunk with the wrong people. You know, when an idea gets through the thick layers of ice around Camus' brain, it gets stuck, itches like mad and doesn't let anyone around him rest. It occurred to him he absolutely had to do something special for Milo and he had been dweling on the issue with not good enough ideas for a while. This happened soon after the invasion. So, for the sake of mental health I told him to play for him, but he really didn't know many songs and he was "average at best", his words. So, Shura, being the good friend he is, offered to help. Having been secretly practicing all along, he is a tad above average. But he didn't know many songs either. It was then, when I got drunk and recalled a few songs that could do the trick for Camus. Oh, but no, what was I thinking? He declined after turning all possible colors and even cursing me. Besides, Milo had heard him play many times before, that was no news, so what was so good about it? Later, on our night guard, I made Camus hear the actual song, gave him the translation and all, and he had to agree it was the proper song to play. Then I told him, what would make your play stand out would be that you do it on a real stage. But which one? That one. And after freaking out and almost kill me, he agreed. Of course, I also had to sing along the others because none of them chews on English, and without vocals, the song loses most of its catch. So, I talked Saga, Shion and Athena into it, and everything was settled, although I didn't expect our goddess to join us. So, with her in the fry I couldn't just halfway do things, so I got us some more players to join. Percussions were a headache because that was usually Milo's post when we played, but of course we could not use him. It was Shura who recruited Shiryu. But I don't recall how the others got dragged in. Anyways, that man owes me for life!

– I feel bad, I've known the guys for a while, and I didn't know they were so talented

– Shura had always liked to play guitar. Someone at the church he used to go as kid taught him. I got him the guitar soon after we met… If I recall correctly, Camus' parents were musicians. The violin he plays was his father's, although he told me he quitted trying to play when he left for Siberia. Milo has good rhythm, but he is tone deaf. I know nothing about the children's background.

– And how did you learned to sing?

– I used to help around on a bar a few blocks down the street. Let's say I spent too much time around the band.

– But in English?

– The owner is a retired American soldier. Blame it on him.

– oh, I think I know what place you are talking about

The conversation ate their dinner and the night away. Althout it was somewhat awkward at first, with Kanon hardly making eye contact, since they got into the tacit agreement of not discussing anything about their relationship, soon they began talking freely. As they left the restaurant and began strolling around, they could enjoy the atracttions until very late at night. It was already past midnight when they headed back to their temples.

– Thanks for the evening – Said Mu once they reached Aries – Where will we meet tomorrow? – Mu's question surprised Kanon

– You'd like us to meet tomorrow?

– Well, you invited me to the festival, it isn't just one day

– Let's meet at the coliseum

– Alright

That night for the first time on a while, Mu was able to rest while asleep. So much that next day he woke up real early. It was a good thing since he had agreed to host the breakfast for his friends a while back. The first one to arrive was Aldebaran, closely followed by Aioros and Aioria.

– Where is Shaka? – Mu noticed he arrived but didn't notice where he went

– oh, he kept going. Asked us to excuse him for not joining today.

Mu right away left what he was doing and ran to catch up with him. The blond was already half way down the stairs

– If you were planning to skip you should have told me before I prepared breakfast – Mu was rather mad at Shaka, although it really had little to do with wasting food

– Mu?

– Did you honestly expect me to let you walk by me?

– I hoped so – Said Shaka as he looked away at the cliffs

Mu sighed.

– What's the problem?

– Nothing, I… I just wanted to spare the guys my jealous ex–girlfriend act before Aioria gets mad. – Aioria's words really hurt Shaka's ego, he didn't want to play that role, and he felt he was dangerously falling into it – They'd surely want to know all about yesterday, but I honestly don't. You are going out with him again today, right? – Mu nodded. – That is all I need to know…

– But it worries me all the same that you avoid me – He couldn't get used to looking into Shaka's clear eyes. But it was way more disturbing to see him with his eyes open looking at something else.

– oh, please don't take it like you have to choose between him and me! – Mu was surprised that Shaka read his thoughts right for once – I told you to keep counting on me if you ever needed me and I'll keep my word, it's just that right now there doesn't seem there's anything useful I can do for you…

– Alright, Shaka, but let's have lunch tomorrow

Shaka agreed and so Mu let him go.

– What happened? – Asked Aioros when his friend entered the living room

– He was in a hurry… – He was surprised to find the table already set for just the four of them. Did they know he was not going to convince Shaka to stay or…?

– Aioria…

– Yes?

– Did you say anything to Shaka before you arrived today?

– Eh? No, well, I greeted him.

– But you didn't say anything about not making a fuss again today or anything of the sort?

– What? No! why?

– Never mind…

– The food is getting cold – Said Aioros sitting down thinking hard how to defuse a bomb and coming short

Shaka's absence pissed off Mu… but why exactly?

The Indian had been a key support on the Lemurian's mental and emotional stability the past few weeks. Somehow, Mu had expected him to continue like that, but on second thoughts it was a ridiculous expectation. Shaka did all that due to his love and concern for him, but if Mu was determined to go through with his decision, well it was indeed too much to ask out of anyone in the Virgo's position. Shaka said Mu could keep counting on him, obviously because he wouldn't like to cut all ties to him, but that didn't mean it would be easy in the least.

"I'm an absolute idiot" Mu was having one of those epic headaches that would make random things shatter due to his psychokinesis. Aiora and Aldebaran might be a little too young to remember that happening, but Aioros did…

Mu needed perspective. But where to get it? Aldebaran's opinion on the matter was completely biased. If asked, he would say Mu should discard any attempt to approach Kanon, at least for a while. Aioria's was as good as an apple's, considering Mu's history with him. And Aioros was not different since he just recently crashed into the mess and missed most of it. If Mu were to talk to Saga, he would try to remain impartial which would lead him nowhere.

"Talk to Shion. He might not know you need it or how to approach you".

Talking to Shion might be a good idea.

– Aioros, do you know if pope Shion would be busy today?

But Shion… maybe Shion cared enough about both Mu and Kanon to offer perspective. What was there to lose?

– No, I don't think so. – Well, to Aioros that was unexpected – Most of the issues with the festival are ready. There was little left to do than let it unfold.

– Saga is the one escorting Athena and her guests – Said Aldebaran

– I might go meet him later then

– Saga?

– Shion! – Said Mu sitting down annoyed

Aioria sat down wondering why would Mu be in such a bad mood

– So? – Asked Aldebaran, sitting last

– So what?

– How was your date?

– It was not a date!

Mu was about to hit the table, but stopped on time… "what the hell is wrong with me?"

– It wasn't?

Mu sighed. "What else would it be?". Well, Shaka leaving like that annoyed him but that was no reason to take it on the others. He considered the question – Well… it was good.

– Good how?

Aioros wondered how Aldebaran and Aioria became so nosy. "But if Mu doesn't stop them…"

– Well, we went to the plays although that wasn't the smartest idea

– Weren't those Greek tragedies?

– Yes, I didn't know. Kanon was kind of down afterwards. Then we had dinner at Elena's… we met other Marinas there, by the way, Siren, Seahorse and Scylla, I forgot their names. Kanon wasn't pleased, they noticed so they kept it short and left. Now that I think about it, he was in a bad mood since he came down from the stage.

– well, it looked like he was up there against his will.

– Camus was supposed to take care of it, in the end Kanon had to assist for it to work

– what do you mean?

– the performance was for Milo. But you had to agree if Camus had done it alone it wouldn't had the same effect.

– I guess Kanon was not very pleased to reveal to the world that he had other abilities besides smithing things up.

Somehow Mu was not exactly convinced that was the case. Kiki said Kanon didn't took appreciation well, and that on itself was weird.

That breakfast at Aries left Aioria and Aldebaran not very pleased. The more they talked to Mu, or rather make him talk, the less they liked Kanon. Mostly because Mu wouldn't really say anything to reassure them, not that he needed to explain anything at all. And Aioros couldn't even understand why it was their business to begin with.

But he had no time to worry much about it, the games in which he was supposed to participate were about to begin

Once they left for the coliseum, Mu looked for Shion through cosmos and found him still in his private chambers, so the Aries teleported just out of the door and knocked.

– come in

– good morning, pope Shion

– oh, Mu! Good morning… is something the matter?

– well, I'd like a word with you… aren't you busy?

– not really. Saga is taking care of most activities, so I've got time to spare. What's going on?

– well… it's about Shaka and Kanon…

Mu could almost see how Shion train of though derailed and crashed, but before the Aries could regret even thinking of being there, the former pope solemly stood up and walked towards the garden inviting his former apprentice along. Mu followed him outside
