Renee wasted no time in getting up when she heard the alarm ringer go off on her cell phone. It displayed the time to be a little before six, but she wanted to make sure that this morning was going to be started right.
It was Andy and Leyley's first day at UA High School.
She hurried to the bathroom and splashed some water on her face. She exchanged her nightgown for some sweats. She looked in the mirror once more to not show any sleepiness in her eyes. By the way she was acting, one would think that she was preparing for school and not her children.
"Andrew, Ashley! Time to get up." She called aloud as she was at the foot of the stairs. She knew the term "early risers" didn't exist in the children's vocabulary. The vampires that they were, it wouldn't surprise her if they finally caught a wink of sleep before the sun rose. Either way it went, school was on the subject.
"Andrew, Ashley! Up and at it! Don't make me get the blow horn." Renee called aloud again.
Moments later, the first door opened and upon stepping out, Andy appeared.
"Jesus, Mom." He looked at his cell phone. "It's just six!"
"And classes start at eight," she retorted. "Being the slowpokes you two are, I wanna be sure all things got handled on time."
Andy yawned, stretching his arms. "Fine, fine!" Renee was pleased with this rebuttal. Normally, Andy would come back with something witty and of course, that would have been met with a smack on the head. He was probably still reeling from the near ass-kicking at the bakery a couple days ago.
As Andy headed back to the bedroom, the sound of another door went ajar. Renee watched as Leyley dragged her feet to the staircase. In her hands, she was carrying her toiletries and her towel. Since the incident last week involving her and Andrew, Renee was true to her word —- to an extent. She did get a padlock that didn't allow Ashley entrance to her brother's room through the bedroom. If one of them was occupying the shower, then they were allowed to use her master bathroom.
The master bedroom was more of a storage than a bedroom as there were still unopened boxes. Every now and again, she would use the bedroom to sleep. Other days, she would sleep on the couch. It would be a lot easier if Chet were here as it wouldn't be that hard to handle her children. If her husband was around, Ashley wouldn't dare pull the stunts like she would when it was just her around.
Leyley looked like a stone, as if the body was present but not the mind. Clutching her items to her chest, she made her ways down the stairs. As she approached her mom, she made a small mutter to her.
"Mornin'!" She slightly brushed her mother and stepped into the bedroom before closing the door. Seeing that was met with a sigh of relief. Renee was certain that the cold war between the Graves was going to continue. Just knowing that she spoke showed Renee that there might be peace, or at least a stalemate.
Maybe it was a good thing to leave a slice of cheesecake at her door. Certainly helped calm things over in the house for a while, still don't know how the Japanese managed to make a jiggly cheesecake but it doesn't matter. Right now what's important is that the twins get ready, breakfast and get to the school on time. That's when Renee heard her daughter in the shower,
"Are you making breakfast or are me and Andy gonna have to get something on the way?"
Oh shit, Renee knew she forgot something. She was gonna make the kids a traditional Japanese breakfast as soup and fish don't work in the morning. She wanted to try it at least once, just for the experience. But now she might have to rush everything and just make them Bacon and eggs since they ran out of Vienna sausages yesterday, thanks to a certain someone being as greedy with them as her father.
"Don't worry, Mom, I made some of the breakfast things last night with the exception of the fish!" shouted Andy. He was a literal godsend, he wasn't actually told why they were having a fish as she wanted to surprise them. Even if it did push Leyley.
"Thank you Andrew you're a lifesaver. When the pair of you are done, get dressed and come to the kitchen for breakfast," Renee responded. As she rushed towards the kitchen in a storm to get the coffee brewed, the new rice cooker cooked and prepared the clear soup, rolled omelette, bacon and grilled fish.
Andy was thinking how today will go, hopefully he doesn't run into that rabid blond asshat from a few days back. Though he had been texting some of those teens he met, the one he actually liked having convos with was Izuku as he was extremely knowledgeable. Probably second was Tokoyami and then Mina, honestly didn't expect that a guy with a crow head would be good company and had great taste in music. Meanwhile Mina gave him as she called it "the tea" on Leyley's future classmates, one of which was a certain blond prick. To say he was gonna be in his sister's class was an understatement, with what both Mina and Izuku told him about Bakugou was that he was apparently a major menace with his quirk explosion.
"Still can't believe my sister's gonna be in class with a literal terrorist. Let's hope that rabid dog doesn't try anything to her or so help me…" he thought as he washed the suds out of his hair before moving on to his body and finding a hickey from Leyley's attack a few days prior. He moved his hands to the spot which was near his crotch,
"Still can't believe she left those marks, at least I'm not in the hero course otherwise I'd have a lot of explaining for the guys in the class," he further thought before finishing up and getting out. His towel was wrapped around his waist as he stepped back into his bedroom to get ready.
Before long the pair were down stairs sporting their uniforms and Renee couldn't be any happier. Andy looked very handsome and smart with that blazer though he himself wasn't too happy about such an ensemble, meanwhile Leyley looked presentable for the first time even. Renee was so proud of how they looked,
"Do we seriously have to wear these at all times in school?" Andy being the first to speak out as he pulled at his tie, "didn't think I'd be needing one of these at all."
"Well I think you look stunning Andrew. Makes you look like a real young man ready to go out into the world," Responded Renee, still gleeful her son looks so good. she then ties his tie, as she takes a whiff of him. A boy in transition to being a man. He and Ashley just turned 18 shortly before arriving here. In a way, it was Ashley's blessing, considering that she was a smidge close to being treated as an adult in lieu of being a juvenile.
"Mom?" Andrew arched an eyebrow, speculating why his mother was sniffing around his collar. Granted it was a rushed shower, but she shouldn't smell anything detecting a foul odor.
"Oh!" She responded, blushing. "Sorry! You know mothers can easily be caught in the moment."
Breaking away momentarily, she went to the dresser where her husband's colognes resided. Grabbing a fragrance of the softer kind, she took and put a few spritz around his neck and wrist. By instinct, Andy rubbed the cologne against his wrist. He took a whiff and nodded in approval.
"Dad may not be 'Father of the Year,' but he does have great taste in cologne," responded Andy as he took another whiff.
It was met with the flick to the forehead by his mother. "Watch it, young man. If it wasn't for your father's new job, we wouldn't be having the luxury to live modestly here."
"Are we ever going to know what Dad is actually doing?" Andy retorted. Honestly, it didn't make a difference what his father did. It could be a salaryman, a lawyer, selling peanuts, or even a mere paperboy wanting his two dollars. It was just a part of him that was curious. The question that had lingered in his mind for years resurfaced once again: What kind of job did his father do?
Growing up, their father had always been a figure shrouded in mystery. He was a stern man, his presence commanding respect and often evoking a sense of unease. His disciplinarian nature left little room for warmth or affection, and their conversations were often limited to practical matters. Whenever he or Leyley dared to ask about their father's work, the response was always the same—a brusque dismissal or a sharp retort emphasizing the necessity of the job for their family's well-being.
"It's bringing food on the table, clothes on your back, and a shelter above your head," their father would say, his tone leaving no room for further inquiry. Andrew had learned early on that pressing the issue only led to frustration and anger. His father's temper was something to be avoided, and so the questions remained unasked, buried beneath a growing curiosity.
He remembered the nights his father would come home late, his clothes slightly disheveled, and the occasional bruises and cuts that were hastily explained away as "work-related accidents." There were phone calls taken in hushed tones and long absences that were never fully explained. Each piece of the puzzle only added to the enigma.
"As long as your needs are being met and it isn't placing harm to you or Ashley," she responded as she tightened his tie once more. Then she turned to her daughter, "And you finally look like I can actually be proud to call you my child, well almost. Now come on, breakfast is ready," said Renee as she walked back to the kitchen to wait for the pair to follow suit.
Andrew and Ashley followed their mother to the kitchen, the scent of freshly made breakfast wafting through the air. The table was laden with an assortment of dishes that Andy made the night before. He wasted no time, eagerly reaching for a stack of rolled omelets, his enthusiasm palpable as he poured a generous amount of syrup over them.
"Syrup on eggs, Andrew?" Renee arched her eyebrow as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"Says the woman who eats salad without any dressing," retorted Andy.
"Be careful what you're eating. Don't need you blowing up like a puffer fish." She said as she took a sip. "Plus, going to hero school, you need to be quick on your feet. Don't let the sugar rob you of your ambition."
"Not if my ambition includes putting syrup on eggs," he said as he continued munching.
"Whatever~!" Renee was grabbing some food when she then turned to Ashley.
She lingered by the doorway, her arms crossed and her expression sullen. The argument with her mother a few days ago still lingered in her mind, making her hesitant to join the table. She sat down reluctantly, her eyes cast downward as she picked at the food on her plate without much interest.
Noticing his sister's mood, Andy leaned over and whispered, "Hey, you know I made these, right?" He gave her a playful wink, hoping to lighten her spirits.
Leyley glanced up, skepticism in her eyes. "You did?"
"Yeah," Andy replied with a grin. "Every single dish."
Her curiosity piqued, Leyley tentatively took a bite of the omelet. As the familiar taste of her brother's cooking hit her palate, her eyes widened in surprise. She took another bite, savoring the flavors she knew so well. A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.
"These are really good," she admitted, her voice softening.
Andy chuckled. "Told you. I know my way around the kitchen."
Renee was pleased to see a flicker of light in her daughter. It was a great change of pace than her usual moody self in the last several days. Taking another swig of coffee, she knew it was time to discuss today's agenda.
"Ok, you two. Today is your first day at a new school. And this isn't just your usual high school. This is a Hero school that specializes in training you guys to become future superheroes."
"Mom, take it easy," responded Andy. "It's like being in a specialized school or a private school. Instead of learning a trade or STEM, we're learning how to save the world." He, himself, was taken aback by the comment. Was this true? Were they really heading to a school to become superheroes? This had to be something straight out of a movie or a comic book. He had to take another helping of eggs to be sure that he was hearing himself correctly.
"Understood but there isn't any building air conditioners, refrigerators or becoming a hairstylist," she retorted. "This is a school for the elite and the gifted — training you guys to become the best leaders."
"Are you still reading the brochure?" Andy replied, trying to hide his smile behind the coffee cup.
"Take this seriously," she said, showing a flat face. "Your father went out of his way to refer you two to this place. This was one of the couple schools that allow you guys admittance due…to the unique circumstances.
"Thought it was provisional." Leyley interjected.
"Trust me, you'll be accepted. Your presentation with them at the tour as well as your 'resume' definitely details your charms," said her mother. "And your proclivities!"
"So, I'm a basket case," said Leyley. "...and sometimes I give myself the creeps."
"Only here, I don't expect your mind to play tricks on you," said Renee.
"Do I look like Bushwick?"
"What?"
"What?"
Andy interjected. "What Mom is saying is that despite the circumstances, take advantage of the opportunity this place could provide for us. Plus, being a hero doesn't sound too bad. It's like being a cop, a license to literally kick someone's ass to protect and serve."
"Language, Andrew!"
"Sorry, Mom!"
"Not really moved by the appeal. Plus, cops act like vigilantes anyway," responded Leyley.
"No matter how you view it, sweetheart, just give the school a chance," said Renee. "Being at this hero school will be good for you. At least redeeming qualities to the judge is the lawsuit does follow suit."
"Which shouldn't be too much of a concern. If I was too much of a flight risk, we wouldn't be having this discussion."
"We're not taking any chances. Be as it were to assault with a deadly weapon or attempted manslaughter," Renee retorted. It took a lot of pleas to convince the lawyers representing Julia to reduce the charges from attempted manslaughter to assault. Speaking of her lawyers, she received some news the day before that they were going to make a deal without involving any judges.
Ashley would have to make a formal apology to Julia for harming her. The lawyers were seeking restitution to cover Julia's medical fees as well as pain and suffering. However, the catch was that they were wanting her to make the formal apology in person and the family wanted her involved in community service. That in itself was going to be difficult since they have emigrated from the United States. Plus, a part of her believed that it was a ploy to bring her back into the country where they could convict her. Of course, this could be paranoia talking since they did allow them to leave the United States, but due to the lack of faith in the justice system, Renee didn't want to take those chances. Despite the fact that she couldn't stand Ashley from time to time, she was still protective of her daughter.
"Getting back to topic, I think we should look at this as a perspective," responded Andy. "We can acquire new skills, learn a trick or two, and might as well have fun. It isn't everyday anyone could say we're at a hero school."
"That's the spirit, Andrew."
"I still don't see the appeal," retorted Leyley. "If it wasn't for the craziness we saw since being here, I would think this was a load of crock."
"Load of crock or not, this will be your school," said Renee. "And I expect you two to be on your best behavior. As long as you're living here, you will abide by my rules. Once you finish high school, then you can do whatever you please."
"I'll see to it to make it so." Leyley muttered, but low enough that her mother couldn't hear.
Although Andrew and Ashley were seniors at their American high school, hero academies don't follow the traditional grading system. Ashley and Andrew would be treated like first year students as they go through their respective courses. Unlike Ashley, Andrew may have the opportunity to be promoted quicker due to his being enrolled in the Support Department. In a conversation he shared with Power Loader, a lot of his courses were considered equivalences and he could just focus on the course subjects of his technical courses. Judging by what he heard, there was a probability that he would spend two years instead of three years and could graduate before he turned 20.
Ashley, on the other hand, was different. Ashley came to this school under "special accommodations," her grades were subpar, if not below average. When Renee spoke with Mr. Inui, the school counselor, Ashley would possibly need remedial classes so she could be at grade level. It was good enough that neither she or Andrew knew the Japanese language, but being told that her reading and math levels were at a junior high level concerned the elder Graves. Thankfully, Mr. Inui told her that they could arrange Ashley to participate at a cram school or arrange weekend tutoring with a pupil that could help her get to grade level. True to their word, they arranged sessions through her elective period in which the teen could receive counseling. It might be to the dismay of Ashley but anything would help to keep her out of jail or having a rap sheet.
"It also says Ashley, that at some point this year you'll do a hero provisional test. Which means when you get the license to use your quirk freely in public, you can thank your father for pulling the strings necessary to do that. Your classmates will be far ahead of you as they, for the most part, got their licenses early due to…unforeseen events," Renee added. It was no joke either she looked up all that happened at the school prior since her husband got the kids in. Villain attacks, sport's festivals, another villain attack while they were at a training camp where one of their classmates was taken and even a raid not too long ago on a yakuza building.
Renee was still surprised the yakuza was still a thing since most mob families faded out like old trends replaced with the next. She did however remember that the one who fought the most in that raid was none other than her Saviour, Izuku, who apparently at the time was fighting the yakuza boss while protecting a little girl at the same time. To say this stoked the fires of her admiration for the mossy haired teen would be an understatement, as she would watch and re-watch as he swatted, believing the guy's name was Chiasaki Kai, into the ground like a damn bug. Seeing her Saviour and knowing how strong he is stirred something in her, it didn't help that the night prior she was tossing and turning in bed through the throws of passion she dreamed of her husband eating her out. Though when she looked down she was greeted by a pair of eyes that weren't Chet's but innocent large emerald eyes, Izuku was eating her out before she woke from the sight with a very flushed face and a fairly soiled bed. She knew that boy was strong but not that powerful, she later dreamt of him in a torn hero costume protecting her from some thug on the streets before passionately kissing her like in the old movies, in another he had become her husband and they had a couple kids together though they were far cuter then when Leyley was as a child and finally she dreamt something different, a girl who sported his freckles but had her hair colour and Izuku's eyes.
"Who was she anyways, a vision of something to come? Was that a future daughter of mine with that Saviour? Who knows right now I need to get these two out the house for some alone time," she thought.
Leyley pressed her face toward Andy's ear. "Is Mom having her…"
Andy nodded in understanding. "No doubt, I see the look in her eyes."
"Do you think…"
"Nah! Not this time. We would have heard her mutter."
"Should we…"
"Oh yeah!" He fiddled his pockets. Realizing that they would possibly need money for lunch, he turned to his mother. "Mom…mom?!" He snapped his fingers, breaking his mother's thoughts.
"Oh! Yes!" Renee responded.
"I know Dad sent some money. Is it okay if we could…."
"Yes! Sure!" Renee responded as she grabbed her cell phone. "I'll wire some money to your accounts. I did recall that your tuition did cover food expenses but just in case."
Renee had given the pair enough money for the whole week and a little extra in case Andy hangs out with those teens in Leyley's class along with her. She then sent them off to clean their teeth before heading out to Yuuei. That's when she realized the teens would need to know,
"Just to let the pair of you know you won't be getting a taxi to the school and will have to take the trains, or at least til I can get a Japanese driver's license but even then I won't be a damn chauffeur for the pair of you, got that?" she told them as they came down the stairs before grabbing their bags to head out.
"Taking the train?" Leyley groaned.
"It's either that or you'll have to walk, but you'll be late," retorted Renee.
"The nearest train station is two miles," said Leyley.
"All the money spent on those Nike shoes you're sporting," replied Renee. "Tch! Better just do it!"
Andy took hold of Leyley's shoulder. "C'mon, Ashley. Let's go."
"Fine~!" Leyley took hold of the bookbag that she got from Andy.
Renee watched Andrew and Ashley walk down the street until they were out of sight. A bit of her grew nervous, speculating how their first day at their new high school would be. She kept telling herself that this wouldn't be a repeat at their former high school.
'Ashley, what in the hell are you doing to your brother?'
'Get the fuck away from me, you old hag.'
'What are you doing with that knife?'
'Either you back away, Mom or both of us will be cut short of life.'
Ashley wasn't herself. This mysterious new power took hold of her. It was like a red mist descended, taking hold of her and refusing to let go. Renee blamed herself for the entire situation that led to Julia's assault. She knew she had handled Ashley better, particularly her upbringing. "I was 14, a child myself. Both received equal treatment and Andy turned out okay. Maybe it is true that it is harder to raise daughters as a woman…"
"Ha! An excuse if I have ever heard of one. You're just fearful that Ashley will become alpha and take your place…and your man!"
"What was that?!" Renee scanned the area. There wasn't anything in sight. However, why did she feel heavy? That voice, it sounded very ethereal and close by. She shook it off, taking it as she didn't get much sleep. Closing the door behind her, she headed back to the kitchen to clean up. She had a full day of grocery shopping and further unpacking of the home.
She hoped to receive a call from Chet so they could talk. It has been nearly two weeks since their arrival and the nearest sign of affection was a mere handshake. Not wanting to sound perverted, she couldn't recall the last time she has been touched….
'Are you alright, ma'am?'
BUZZ!
Her thoughts were interrupted by The phone rang and she saw it as the devil himself. She answered the call in the fifth ring.
"Hello," Renee answered.
"Ah, no! Don't spread it. Where are you touching?"
"Don't fuss, baby. You know you like it when I do that."
"But…but…"
"Shh! Don't think about it. Just let your uncle make you feel good."
Renee hung up the phone. She slowly set the phone on the table. She just didn't want to phantom the horrid words that were penetrating her ears. She took hold of the plate from the table and as she led to the sink, she flung to the wall, causing it to shatter.
The Misery twins finally made it to the building within an hour before classes actually started. Although now they got a better look of their surroundings they took notice of the many different students at the school. One guy had mandibles on the sides of their face while another had a speech bubble for a head, then there was a girl with seemingly large horns chatting with the pair to their surprise she spoke English just like them.
"Guess we won't be so different from these people after all. That girl has to be American," said Leyley.
"She can be Neptunian for all I care," responded Andy.
"Hey…just making a point. We would need allies."
"Wait…an ally that is a girl?"
Leyley punched his shoulder. "I've said ally, not a friend. Plus all we know she could be a ditch digger."
"Leyley, stop."
"What? I ain't trying to be cancelled."
"Just last week you called that Slim Jim-looking guy a crackhead."
"Crackhead is a normal term. I wasn't like I was calling her a bushwhacker or a dy—"
"Anyway… it seems Quirks cause a lot of different side effects to the human body or in the case of the speech bubble guy head," commented Andy as they continued onward. "It's so strange seeing this many people with unique abilities all in one place, though some are less mutated than others."
"Tell me about it, it's like Halloween all year for these guys," Leyley whispered to Andy as the pair hoped no one else heard her. That's when he whispered bach to her,
"Hey keep the discrimination on the down low, for all we know there could be someone with extremely good hearing in this school. Last thing you want is having to go to the principal's office because someone hear'd you slandering half the student body."
"So you must be the new gaijin transfer students."
A few feet away stood a tall purple-haired teen with gray streaks in her hair. She was wearing their school uniform, but it was definitely in violation of the school bylaws and regulations. Her skirt was way above her knees. Her blouse was tight and hugged in all the right places. Her blazer was tied in a knot, showing her belly button ring. She was sporting her neon-colored bracelets. In her mouth was a cherry-flavored sucker.
The more Andy observed her, the more frustrated Leyley grew.
Leyley tugged Andy's cheeks. "Are you looking for real estate?"
The purple-haired teen produced a smile on her face as she let the sucker hang from her mouth freely. "Excuse me, kids. Sorry about that. I get too free with myself." She extended her hands to the two. "Hitoshi Shinsou, class 1-H."
Andy extended his hand to return her handshake. "Nice to meet you. Andrew Graves." He then took his hand onto Leyley's shoulder. "And this is my sister, Ashley Graves."
Leyley didn't respond. Her glaring pink eyes continued staring into the purple-haired teen, as if she was staring into the windows of her soul.
"Nice to meet you as well," said the purple-haired teen with a cheeky grin before turning to Leyley. "At ease, Ashley. There is nothing to worry about."
Leyley raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
"Mind reader, duh," answered Hitoshi as she folded her arms.
Leyley blushed, embarrassed for not keeping her temperament — but more so embarrassed because if that Shinsou girl just tapped into her mind, who knew what more she was capable of. "Shit, shit, shit! Day one and already dealing with a bitch that can read me like a book."
"There isn't a book large enough to fill your adversities," responded Hitoshi. "But I digress."
Andy intervened. "So…you know us as the 'transfer students.' How did word get out?"
"I keep my ears to the ground," responded Shinsou as she continued sucking on her sucker. "I'm much of the eyes and ears of UA High…the unofficial school hustler, a livewire, the intranet. Anything you wanna know or need, don't be afraid to hesitate."
"School hustler, huh," interjected Leyley. "Riddle me this…what's your intention with us?"
"What do you mean?"
"I've seen enough prison movies to know when someone is trying to see what they can get." Leyley hit her chest. "We ain't bartering or exchanging. I ain't new booty."
Andy blushed, feeling embarrassed by his sister's comments.
"Relax, Graves. I'm a friendly," responded Hitoshi. "To answer your question, your arrival to the school wasn't exactly a secret. We've all watched you during your tour on campus. I'm in the general studies department, which is basically a sister to the Support Department. Word travels fast with new recruits."
"Still a sus system to me," responded Leyley.
Hitoshi touched her cheek. "Listen, I think we started off the wrong foot. I know I can be assertive at times. Plus, I'm still kicking the nicotine habit."
"Judging by your looks and the way you're sucking that lollipop, seems like that isn't the only thing you're kicking." Leyley thought to herself.
Andy turned his head and saw another group of students walking by.
One of them was a tall guy with a muscular complex, around his height, he had blue fixed hair with glasses. Another was a cute, somewhat short girl with a round face, rosy cheeks, brown short hair that framed her face and what looked to be pads on her finger tips. But both of them were somewhat surprised as they recognized the third one: Messy green hair, freckled cheeks and bright green eyes. It was indeed the trio that he had met a couple of days ago — Iida, Uraraka, and Midoriya.
Izuku spotted Andy from a distance and waved to him. Before he could respond, Leyley tugged his arm. "Were you listening?"
"Huh…what?!"
"Shinsou is going to take us to the principal's office. Apparently, we need to get our class schedules," answered Leyley.
"Oh…ok!" Responded Andy as Leyley kept pulling him away in her direction. Though it was a brief hello, the two would probably catch up at lunch for an in depth conversation at length.
"Midoriya~kun who were you waving to just now?" asked Iida, quizzitive of the mossy haired teen's actions.
"Oh I was just waving to Graves~kun, he was with Shinsou~san and another girl who was pulling him away. I think that may have been his sister but I didn't get enough of a look, she will be in are class so we'll get to kno-,"
"How about we focus on getting to class. Aizawa sensei will give us hell if we're late," responded Uraraka who interrupted the pair's conversation out of the blue.
"You're right Uraraka! Come Midoriya we mustn't be tardy lest we face the wrath of an Aizawa scorned," Voiced Iida as he and Izuku started walking a little faster. Uraraka was slowly following behind them. a bit of frustration on her mind but she let it go, For now.
After the pair got their schedules they slowly made their way to 1A. Leyley really hated what was about to happen so she immediately held on to Andy, she was not ready for him to be out of her sight for so long,
"Don't go, just come to this class. Please," she whimpered to him.
"Hey come on now Leyley you'll be fine. Stop whimpering," Andy followed up her question. He knows he needs to do this but she looked so fragile in that moment he placed a hand on her head, "Look, I'll just be in the Support Depo down the hall. If your anxiety gets really bad and you need to see me then tell your teacher and I'll give you a hug til you feel better, okay?"
She slowly let go of him feeling a little defeated but she knows it has to be like this. His quirk hadn't awoken yet and she needs to be able to handle her own without him maybe later on it will but for now they're apart,
"Okay." she said somberly as she slowly let go of him, "I guess I'll see you later Andy. you too Hitoshi," she slowly waved to them as they left for the General studies and Support depo's respectively.
"You can do this Ashley," she muttered to herself as she slowly opened the door to the classroom. As she walked in, she immediately saw the diversity in the class. The first girl she saw was pink with horns and behind her was a girl with very wide eyes whose tongue was sticking out of her mouth. She then noticed on the opposite side of the room was a set of the girl's school uniform sitting at the desk as well, telling Leyley that she was obviously invisible. Before making her way to the teacher's desk where she was told to wait before the teacher would introduce her. Wait, where was the teacher?!
"U…um," she spoke out nervously. "W-where's t-the teacher?"
"Down here Graves-san." responded a monotone voice which she followed to a man in a yellow sleeping bag laying on his side as he took a sip from a juicebox. To say this shocked her was an understatement but he slowly got up and unzipped himself to reveal,
"A hobo?" Leyley responded.
"As much as it pains me to say this…I am the teacher of this class and seeing as this is our first interaction I'll let what you said slide. For now I should introduce you to the class," he spoke tiredly. He then turned to the entirety of 1A before stating, "alright so as some of you are aware we have a transfer student. Normally I'd tell Nezu I'd rather jump off a bridge head first then deal with another one of you however Graves~san here is a special case. That's why she will be in this class now then Graves~san introduce yourself," he finished before picking up his sleeping bag.
"Y-yes sir. Hi I'm Ashley Graves, it's a pleasure to be in Class 1A and meet you all I hope you will take care of me," Leyley said before bowing. She was told by her mother the night prior that she better bow as it's a sight of respect and she won't come off as rude when meeting her new class.
"Normally I wouldn't ask this of them. But do any of you have any questions for Graves~san?" spoke Aizawa who just wanted to go back to sleep. Everyone raised their hand as each of them had a question for the lone misery. "Great well with the exception of Mineta~kun ask away. Just don't disturb me," he further stated. The first person who was picked was Iida,
"Graves~kun what made you want to be a hero?"
'You fucking bitch. You're gonna pay for what you did.'
'You're gonna die for what you did.'
'She kept touching you and you kept touching her.'
'I didn't think that cup had acid. I didn't think she would have gone blind. That fucking bitch!'
"Umm…well, the reason I wanna be a hero is, because I wanna help those who can't help themselves," she replied, trying to ignore the voices in her head. The next person to ask a question was a girl with a ponytail,
"Yes, I wanted to ask. What's your quirk Graves~chan? If you don't feel comfortable telling us then that's fine,"
"My quirk is called Acid," she said before someone shouted out,
"No way! Mine too!"
All the attention was now on the pinkette of the class, her eyes wide and shining before she rushed up and hugged the girl,
"OMG, girl, we're Quirk siblings!" she shouted as she jumped up and down in excitement that she found someone similar to her, well minus the pink skin, horns and unique eye colour.
"What is she screaming about?! What the heck is a quirk sibling?" Leyley enquired as she had never heard of such a thing.
"Oh right, first, Hi. I'm Mina Ashido and I should explain, you see when people have the same quirk they are consider family. It's similar to being blood related but with quirks. so in short just think of me as a sista from another mista," Ashido said whilst containing her excitement.
"Ashido, please release Graves~san at once!" shouted Iida while chopping his arms in authority. She did as instructed by Iida and sat back down as someone else asked a question,
"What's your music taste? Asked a girl with violet hair and jacks for earlobes.
"My taste is like a combination of Slayer, Mayhem, with a dash of Chicago drill." Leyley responded, getting a slight nod from the earjack rocker.
"What's it like in America?" asked the invisible girl.
"It's dangerous in some areas and shiitake in others. But it was peaceful" she responded, minding her language.
"Do they have heroes where you live?"
"I think there were a few back home, there's a heroine called "Hekate" who could do magic, another was called "Stitch" who looked like a walking doll and a guy with mechanical limbs and wolf tails but I can't remember his name though," Leyley repiled. Seriously, what was his name?
"Are you single or looking for a boyfriend?" Minoru asked.
"Dude, we are introducing ourselves to her. This is not a dating pool," responded Sero.
"What? Just inquiring. You're asking questions about her, so I thought—-"
This was met with a simple slap to the head via tongue courtesy of the frog girl.
"Thank you, Asui! Seriously he's like a dog in heat, the moment he sees a new girl he's gotta hump her leg," responded Ashido
"I told you to call me Tsu. Kero," replied the frog teen.
"Sowwy," responded the teary-eyed grapehead dwarf.
"Alright that's enough! If any of you have any more questions, you can ask Graves~san in free period or lunch. For now Graves~san, go sit down at your desk next to the window," Aizawa firmly said.
Leyley made her way to the back of the class behind a green haired boy who never raised his hand and was writing something down in a notebook. She didn't know what he was writing since the class hadn't started but it must have been something really important if he was writing in the middle of class.
"Midoriya, I am hoping that you're taking notes on this." Aizawa-sensei responded, pinching his fingers between his nose.
It was met with a bit of laughter in certain pockets of the classes.
"Man, what a Shapiro!"
Leyley darted to the source of the voice. Her eyes were glaring at the red-eyed teen who sat not too far from Midoriya.
"All right, class. Let's settle down." Aizawa-sensei replied, making his way to the podium. "Since you all have been laughing about Midoriya's proclivities, let's hope you guys were paying attention as we're having a Pop Quiz."
It was met with groans from the classroom.
"Thanks a lot, Bakugo." Sero commented.
"Typical spaz to ruin the mood, ribbit." Tsuyu added.
"Whatever, you hags!" Katsuki responded.
Ashley chuckled, knowing at least the "class bully" was situated upon contact. She managed to take her seat where she was close to Midoriya. Reaching for her notebook, she began to tune in for the lecture at hand.
Class concluded without further incident. The students were dismissed as they went to their next period. What surprised her was that unlike in America where she left to go to another classroom for another class, she would be with her classmates in the same classroom all day, with the exception of PE and electives.
"Great…so I have no choice but to make conversation even if I wanted to avoid talking to them."
Looking at her class schedule, PE was the next class. As she prepared to go to her next class, the tired, nicotine-deprived teacher called out. "Graves-san, there is something that I need to tell you." He then looked at the emerald-haired teen who was preparing to leave. "Midoriya, stay. This involves you as well."
Leyley and Izuku made their way in front of Aizawa-sensei. Reaching for an apple, he sat at his desk as he prepared to speak. "I won't get into details since Midoriya is here but we did review the transcripts from your previous school." He took a bite of the apple. "Although we are a special school that trains heroes, we still believe that academia serves the foundation to be applied to your future." He then looked at Midoriya. "And this is where you come."
"Huh?" Izuku said, looking surprised.
"I purposely set Midoriya beside you as he is going to assist you to get caught up with your studies," responded the Eraser Hero. "This curriculum could be very fast-paced and we don't want you to get left behind. Midoriya here is one of our top students in the class…a shocker, I know, but he's the type that has patience and can be very understanding when it comes to those with shortcomings."
"Aizawa-sensei, why Deku-kun? Why not make Yaomomo, Iida or Bakugou one of her tutors?"
The Eraser Hero turned his head to see a straggler who he didn't count being in the classroom.
"Ochako Uraraka, is there a reason why you are still here, let alone, participating in a conversation that didn't require your input," interjected Aizawa-sensei.
Izuku appeared surprised, which was a first for all the others in the class to hear as she never would speak against any of Aizawa's orders.
"Deku-kun just has a lot on his plate at the moment. Wasn't he supposed to be doing—"
"Pay for the business that you mind, Uraraka-san," retorted Aizawa-sensei. "But, since you want to inquire, Yaoyorozu-san is tutoring half the class, Iida is quite impatient thus it wouldn't go anywhere. As for Bakugou, he would never shut up about his ego plus his extracurricular activities outside of school are setting a poor example for our school's image."
Ochako turned red when hearing those words.
"We're a prestigious institution, Uraraka-san. Eyes and ears are everywhere with this school. Whatever you go, you must represent the school with pride."
Ochako bowed apologetically. "Sorry, Sensei."
"As much as I appreciate your suggestions, it won't be needed. So, please head to PE."
"Yes, Sensei!" Ochako bowed as she departed from the classroom.
Leyley internally was nodding with approval. She was sort of liking this teacher. "Now, where were we?" Aizawa-sensei responded. "Midoriya came recommended by Nezu and Hound Dog himself due to his gentler approach."
"Yes, sir." Leyley said.
"Due to the circumstances of your recent transfer, any electives will be free period for your studies. Midoriya, you too will be excused from your electives until further notice."
"Yes, Sensei." Izuku responded.
"Ok, good. Because whether or not she needs it will be determined when she takes a quirk test."
"A quirk test?" Leyley questioned.
"Didn't you forget, Graves-san. You're here on a provisional basis. There is still your exam you must take to earn a full ride here."
Leyley did recall at the tour that the whatchamacallit said that she was going to take an exam. Honestly, she thought that he was only bluffing. Coming from American education, teachers would say anything and nine times out of ten, they tend to forget. It would make sense due to her below-average grades.
"You will have a couple of days to prepare yourself," responded the Eraser Hero as he turned around and reached under his desk. "Here are your training clothes for your exam. These are hand-me-downs as we still have some things on backorder."
"Yes, sir."
"Alright. I've spoken more than I needed to. You're dismissed."
Leyley and Izuku bowed as they departed from the classroom.
"So, you're my tutor," she responded.
He nodded. "I guess. Don't think I won't treat you any different."
She chuckled. "It wouldn't be the first time being monitored. At least I am not wearing an ankle monitor."
"What?"
"What?"
Izuku cleared his throat. "Let me lead you to our next class."
"Cool."
When she took a gander at him as he led the way, that was when it happened. She saw those large innocent emerald eyes, the diamond shape freckles on his cheeks. He reminded her of Andy before he became so cynical of the world. That's when Midoriya began to speak.
"Oh yeah," he said as he turned back around. "I'm Izuku Midoriya, it's nice to meet you Graves~san. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask okay? I am here for you," he softly said to her before showing her his ever so famous smile. Leyley never thought she would ever say this about someone that wasn't her brother, let alone a boy she just met but Midoriya was so.
"Cute." She muttered as a faint hue of pink dusted her cheeks and with a slight warmth growing in her, when he said he was there for her she knew he meant it and that made her heart skip a little.
"Did you say something just now Graves~san?" He asked, tilting his head a little.
"Oh gosh did he just look cuter?! He's like a curious little bunny so adorable," Leyley thought as her cheeks got pinker. "Er…nothing Midoriya and it's nice to meet you too," she finally said softly to the mossy haired teen.
Unbeknownst to the pair, they were being watched from afar.
"Ashley Graves, huh?! So this is the bitch that is related to that deadman from a few days back. Oh, I'm gonna enjoy beating the shit out this bitch just to spite that bastard! You picked the wrong bastard to fuck with."
As he made his way to the Support Department, Andy was greeted by Power Loader, the head of the department. The Pro Hero was known for his expertise in creating and maintaining hero equipment. With his distinctive helmet and strong, yet friendly demeanor, Power Loader exuded an air of authority and approachability.
"Welcome, Mr. Graves!" Power Loader said, extending a hand. "I'm Power Loader, the head of the Support Department. We're thrilled to have you join us."
He shook his hand, feeling a sense of relief at the warm welcome. "Thank you, sir. I'm excited to be here."
"Come on, let me show you around and introduce you to your classmates," Power Loader said, leading Andy into the bustling workshop that was the heart of the Support Department.
Inside, the room was alive with activity. Students were working on various projects, from designing hero costumes to creating innovative gadgets. The atmosphere was one of creativity and collaboration, and Andy felt a thrill of anticipation, surprisingly.
Power Loader gathered the students' attention with a clap of his hands. "Alright, everyone, listen up! I'd like you to meet our new student, Andrew Graves. He'll be joining us in the Support Department."
The students turned their attention to Andy, their faces filled with curiosity and welcoming smiles. One student, with distinctive goggles perched on her head, stepped forward with a wide grin.
"Hey, it's the Graves kid from America. I'm Mei Hatsume. Welcome to the Support Department! If you ever need help with an invention or have an idea, I'm your girl," she said enthusiastically.
He smiled, recognizing Mei from his tour. "Thanks, Hatsume. I appreciate it."
"Seems to be you two have acquainted yourselves. Great, Hatsume, he'll be working under your guidance," Power Loader said.
Mei's eyes lit up with excitement. "Hey, Graves-san. Welcome to the Support Department once more! It's great to see you again. We've got so many awesome projects to work on."
He smiled, feeling a surge of enthusiasm. "Thanks, Hatsume-san. I'm looking forward to learning from you. You can call Andy by the way."
"Andy-san? Cool!"
Power Loader nodded approvingly. "Hatsume will show you the ropes. She's one of our best students, and you'll learn a lot working with her. Remember, the Support Department is all about innovation and creativity. Don't be afraid to think outside the box."
"Yes, sir," replied Andy.
"We're more of a laid back environment than the usual hero courses. This is more of the technical side where we are more behind the scenes — managing to help our heroes with any equipment they are in need to acquire. So, look at us like a pit crew," responded Power Loader.
"A pit crew, huh?" It did give Andy vibes as if he was at shop class back at his high school. Instead of building things out of popsicle sticks, he will actually involve himself with working with hero equipment.
"Nezu tells me that you know your way around a car or two?" Power Loader responded with a smile.
'Andy…come out and playyyyyyyy~!'
He shuddered to the thoughts of yesteryear, but maintained his composure. "I've tinkered with a wire or two."
"You wouldn't be building engines or creating harddrives with computers per se," interjected his teacher. "With a technical background, your objective is seeing your imagination come alive and your ingenuity thrive. We're all about pushing the boundaries and making heroes' lives easier and safer."
'Andy…come out and playyyyyyyy~!'
"I'm ready to learn and contribute. Thank you for having me." He bowed at his sensei.
"Great to hear!" Power Loader said. "Now, let's get you settled in."
Power Loader provided Andy with his personal toolbox. Embroiled with his name on top of the box, it was set beside him as he took a seat beside the steampunk teen.
"Ooh~! Already got your name on your toolbox. You're officially part of the squad." Mei responded. Andy blushed as he felt her large bust pressing against his arms. It didn't go without notice from the teen.
"Excuse me. Sorry. Personal space and all."
"That's okay. Considering that you guys are used to cramped quarters."
"Unfortunately, yes. I know space is a luxury in the states. Ever heard of Roswell? I know it is in the middle of nowhere so plenty of space to roam around. I would love to explore Area 51."
The teen lightly chuckled at the teen. "So, tell me what you are working with?"
"Well…these are what you called Air Force gloves."
"Air Force gloves? As if you were working on an item for the military?"
Mei chuckled. "Heavens, no." She put her finger to her lip. "Although…but, no. This is an item I invented earlier in the semester. However, there were some kinks that required fixing. And I don't like when my babies are misbehaving."
"What does it do?"
"The gloves were designed to channel and amplify the user's air blasts, making them more powerful and precise."
"Like something you would see like that One-Punch Man guy."
Hatsume snorted. "Please! Saitama wishes he could have strength like these babies. These gloves would put Saitama to shame."
"That's a bold statement, Hatsume," responded Andy.
"Saitama is literally a walking meme. Those who are familiar with agility would know that these babies here would only amplify greater strength to outdo people like him," she said, showing a hint of pride. "I would take the Face Wax Challenge to think Saitama can outdo my Air Force gloves."
"That's definitely a bold statement," said Andy, whistling at the thought.
"I might be a grease monkey, but you're in my home. This lab is my sanctuary." She replied as she hit her chest.
Andy stuck out his tongue as he took hold of the gloves. "So you say that the gloves were designed to channel and amplify the user's air blasts."
"That's correct!"
He had never dealt with these kinds of tools before, but it was like hotwiring a car….
'Andy…come out and playyyyyyyy~!'
As they worked, Andy couldn't help but feel curious about Mei. She was so energetic and passionate, always brimming with new ideas. He decided to strike up a conversation.
"Hey, Hatsume," Andy began, carefully soldering a component into place. "I've been meaning to ask, where are you from? And why did you decide to work in the Support Department?"
Mei paused, a thoughtful expression crossing her face as she adjusted a microprocessor on the glove. "Well, I'm from a small town outside of Tokyo. Growing up, I was always fascinated by machines and how things worked. My parents said I was born with a wrench in my hand," she added with a chuckle.
He smiled, imagining a young Mei surrounded by gadgets and tools. "That sounds pretty cool. So, was it always your dream to join the Support Department?"
Mei nodded, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "Absolutely! I've always wanted to create gadgets and support gear for heroes. I believe that the right technology can make a huge difference in a hero's performance. Plus, I love inventing things. There's something incredibly satisfying about seeing an idea come to life and knowing it can help someone."
They continued to work on the Air Force Gloves, exchanging ideas and refining their design. Mei's knowledge and creativity combined with Andy's meticulous attention to detail made them a formidable team.
As the day progressed, Power Loader checked in on their progress. He observed their work with a keen eye, noting their collaboration and the improvements they made to the glove design.
"How's it going, you two?" Power Loader asked, his tone curious.
Mei grinned, holding up one of the gloves. "We're making great progress! Andy's idea to add shock absorption to the inner lining is really improving the usability and comfort of the gloves."
Power Loader examined the glove, nodding in approval. "Impressive work, Graves-san. It's clear you have a good eye for detail and practical application. Keep it up."
He felt a surge of pride at the compliment. "Thank you, Power Loader. I'm learning a lot from Mei and really enjoying the process."
Power Loader smiled, pleased with the progress. "Good to hear. The Support Department is all about innovation and teamwork. I think you two are off to a fantastic start."
As he walked away, Mei wiped the sweat off her brow with arm. "So, tell me about yourself, Andy-san."
"Me?"
"Sure, you are a foreigner in a new country. It isn't everyday we have gaijin, especially Americans attending this school. Any reason why you came to UA High?"
'You fucking bitch. You're gonna pay for what you did.'
'You're gonna die for what you did.'
'She kept touching you and you kept touching her.'
'I didn't think that cup had acid. I didn't think she would have gone blind. That fucking bitch!'
"My father works in the traveling industry. He was presented with an opportunity to work overseas. Due to his line of work, it was better suited that we come to Japan," responded Andy.
"That's amazing. I have always wanted to travel beyond this country."
"I didn't think I would live in another country, let alone travel to another country. I have always thought we would live and die where we live."
"Your parents didn't travel much?"
"Ironic, right?"
It was met with a chuckle from Hatsume.
About an hour later….
Class had finished for the morning, and he was packing up his workstation, ready to head out. He planned to continue working on the Air Force Gloves another day. As he grabbed his backpack, Mei approached him, a friendly smile on her face.
"Hey, Andy-san!" Mei called out, bouncing on her toes. "Want to hang out during lunch? I've got some cool ideas I want to share with you, and we can brainstorm together."
He quickly weighed his options and decided that he could split his time.
"Sure, Mei," He replied with a smile. "I'd love to. I'll join you for lunch, and then I'll catch up with my sister afterward. She'll understand."
Mei's face lit up with excitement. "Awesome! Let's go then!"
Andy and Mei made their way to the canteen, where the delicious aroma of various dishes filled the air. With the money his mother had given him, Andy bought a hearty lunch. Mei quickly picked out her own meal, and they headed towards the stairs leading to the roof.
While gathering lunch, he could see Leyley and Izuku heading outside to the commons. It was a relief that she was in safe hands. He reminded himself to text her as soon as he made it to the roof.
Once they reached the rooftop, Andy was struck by the breathtaking view of the UA High School campus and the city beyond. The fresh air and open space made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal.
As they found a suitable place to sit, they crossed paths with a familiar student. She was leaning against the fence, counting her money while continuing sucking on a lollipop. Her clothes were disheveled and it wasn't hot enough to be this drenched. Judging by her presentation, Andy knew that she was finishing "working."
Shinsou gave Andy a curious look, her gaze lingering a bit longer than usual. Mei noticed and smiled at Shinsou, her expression friendly and inviting.
"Hey there, Shinsou!" Mei greeted, her voice cheerful. "Whatcha doing out here?"
Shinsou pulled out the sucker, creating a trail as she pocketed the cash. "Well, you know, Hatsume. Duty calls."
"Neat! Hey, wanna join us for lunch. I have enough to share."
Shinsou glanced between Mei and Andy, then nodded. "Sure, why not? I'm always up for some company."
Andy felt a shiver down his spine. He could recognize that sensual tone. When she mentioned, "I'm always up for some company," she wasn't referring to them as a group. Not even a full day has been made and he already captured an admirer. He just hoped to God that Leyley would be too distracted to notice.
'What in the fuck did you do, Leyley?'
'She kept touching you. I-i-i-i-it should be me touching you. No one can touch you, feel you, kiss you, fuck you…only me!'
'Leyley!'
'You're mine, Andy!'
To be continued….
BD: Andy and Leyley are surviving day one at UA High and they haven't maimed anyone yet. They must be slipping. Speaking of slipping, I hope Andy is able to contain himself. As you can already see, he has an admirer and she is on the prowl. What say you, Sinneress?
Sinneress: Well let's hope Shinsou can seal the deal with him, though he's not the only one who could have an admirer. It seems Leyley could be catching feelings for our favourite little cinnamon roll. So cute! What do you think on them BD?
BD: We are chartering into unknown territory. We're tapping into things that may question the canon shippers. But I don't trust canons anyway. All it does is sink ships! That is why I am team Greenshade. There is more to come for our Misery twins. As they get accustomed to their new surroundings, will they learn to adjust or will they shed this facade and raise hell. Stay tuned and find out. As always, God bless and team Greenshade!
Also, we're still going to work on creating a comic. Just needing to make time from my real life to make this happen. Thanks to those who provided Sinneress suggestions for software to use. The tentative date when we will release the comic is unknown. First things first: deciding what in the hell it's gonna be about. Stay tuned!
