Wake Up Call
The group of us are sitting in my living room as Lizzie catches me up on what I have missed since I 'disappeared'. "Seriously? How bad is it?" I ask. Lizzie raises an eyebrow, "You have no idea." Lizzie gets more comfortable in her seat before listing things off, "Covid 19 mutated several times before dying out, only for a more deadly virus to take its place. Russia declared war on Ukraine, so WW3 is right around the corner. Oh, and Roe vs Wade was overturned."
I sat there stunned, "So our dimension has totally gone to shit?" Lizzie nods her head, "Yep. Kinda glad I'm here. There was nothing left back there." The room was silent for a moment which is weird because normally Paul and Marko can't sit still for that long. I look to see confused faces, then Paul asks, "What's Roe vs Wade?"
Lizzie answers, "To put it simply. It was a really drawn out Supreme Court case that made the right to terminate a pregnancy a woman's choice. Her body, her choice. When it was overturned there were several reported cases of women dying because they weren't allowed to terminate due to health issues. There's more to it, but it's depressing."
"Man, that's messed up," Paul shook his head in disbelief. The others agreed with him. David stood up, "Well, we better get going. It was nice meeting you Lizzie." David didn't wait for a response before he walked to the front door. Dwayne and Marko nodded their heads as they joined David. Paul held back for a moment, "I hope I don't jinx this. But hopefully, we won't rewind again."
Lizzie looked confused for a moment then it clicked, "If it does, we'll figure out how to stop it." Paul nodded his head, gave me a hug and waved at Lizzie as he left. Lizzie smiled like she knew something I didn't, "He's into you." I shook my head, "Yeah, right." "Whatever dude. Which room is mine? And where are the pups?" Just as Lizzie asked that she was tackled by Sirius with Regulus right next to him. The two of us laughed at my wolves.
Oh, Come On!
Lizzie and I wake up and see the Emersons unloading their stuff. "You've got to be kidding me?" I am so ready to stake Matthius. We get ready for the day, no use in hiding in bed. Lizzie came downstairs to the kitchen where I was just finishing washing my pups' dishes. She jumped onto the counter, "So, what's the plan?" I shook my head, "I have no clue. This is the third time starting over." Lizzie asked, "What have you done so far?"
"Well, the first time I stayed in the background until the morning of the attack inside their cave. I built a crude electric fence and put it over their lair opening. One of the Frog brothers was electrocuted. I left a note asking the Lost Boys to come here and showed them the end of the movie. They were able to get the upper hand and kill the Emersons and Max. I was able to spend a few days with them before the reset. During which Paul was able to remember. He brought the others over and they watched the movie. After killing the Emersons again, that's when your FaceTime went through." I explained.
Lizzie thought it over, "How was Paul able to remember?" I sighed, "I found some journals explaining interdimensional travel and created a portal. Paul touched some of the exposed wiring and left a trace of himself behind." "So, you were able to recreate the portal?" Lizzie asked. "Yep. The code was long and a little complicated," I nodded. Lizzie looked at me, "Have you looked over the code of the movie?" My eyes widened then I blushed in embarrassment. Lizzie laughed at me. I smacked my forehead, "I'm so stupid." Lizzie laughs harder, "It's ok. We'll go get some notebooks and start working on it later. But first, food."
We decided to head to a small diner near the grocery store. After getting some food, we shopped for the things we needed and some more food. When we got back to the house, the pups rushed at us needing to go outside. As Lizzie unloaded the stuff we bought, I let Sirius and Regulus out to the backyard. The hairs on the back of my neck stood as I felt eyes on me. I looked around then focused on the Emerson household. I couldn't see anyone, but I knew it was someone in that house. Sirius nudged me out of my head, and we went inside.
Later that night, Lizzie, the pups, and I went to the Boardwalk. We wanted to see if any of the Lost Boys remembered anything. We pulled up the Boardwalk blasting "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks, and Cannibal Girls" by White Zombie. The music was so loud it caught a lot of people's attention. We didn't care, it's a good song to play loud. Sirius walked with me, and Regulus walked with Lizzie as we moved through the Boardwalk.
I leaned closer to Lizzie, "If we head to the live music, we'll run into two recognizable half-vampires." Lizzie smirked, "What are we waiting for?" We linked arms and headed for the outdoor stage. As we passed some billboards, we saw all the missing posters knowing who was responsible for almost all of them. We weren't as phased as we should be. We watched as the security guard's wife hung one up. She didn't look as broken as one might think, it was almost like she was hanging it up just to seem concerned but really wasn't.
Also on that billboard was an announcement for open mic night for the following night. Lizzie had this mischievous gleam to her eyes, "That would be one way to get their attention." I followed her gaze and saw the Open Mic Flyer and sighed, "Sure. What song do you have in mind?" Lizzie whispered in my ear, and I couldn't help but smile.
We gripped the pups' leashes as we pushed through the crowd to get closer to the half-vampires. Laddie pulled on Star's skirt to get her attention and pointed to my pups. She gave the same reaction as last time, pulling Laddie behind her thinking my pups were going to attack. I smile tensely at her reaction; it gets tiring sometimes when people think my pups are vicious. I could see Laddie wanting to pet one of my pups, and I could see Sirius inching closer to the half-vamps wagging his tail so fast his butt wiggles. I snort at Sirius before turning to Star, "They're friendly. He can pet them." Laddie moved around Star to pet Sirius while my pup just soaks up the attention.
Before the end of the song, "I Still Believe", Star and Laddie escaped the crowd with Mike and Sam following them. Lizzie and I held the pups' leashes and pushed to follow them at a slower pace hoping to catch a glimpse of the Lost Boys. Mike and Sam were heard arguing about Mike chasing a girl their first night in this town. Lizzie and I couldn't help but laugh at them.
Coming up to the parking lot, we saw Star get on David's bike behind him, and Laddie behind Dwayne. We slowly moved behind Mike and Sam, so we were in the Lost Boys line of sight. We watched through our peripheral vision to see if they reacted to us and saw nothing. My shoulders dropped when I realized none of them remembered me. Lizzie leaned closer to me, "It's ok. We'll figure this out. Hopefully this will be the last time." I kept my eyes and head down and just nodded as we walked back to Lizzie's car to head home.
Later that night, we could feel eyes on us as we got ready to copy the movie before we turned the entire movie into computer coding. As well as planning on how to keep the boys alive. This time Lizzie and I were going to try and catch their attention alongside Mike. Whoever was watching us didn't watch for long since the feeling went away shortly after the movie started copying. I sighed for the nth time, "It's going to be a long night."
Open Mic Night
Lizzie and I leave the pups at home this time. We made sure they would be fine for a few hours without us. We both dressed in a way that would show off most of our tattoos. Lizzie doesn't have as many tattoos as me, although her back tattoo is massive. She truly has a fascination for skulls. Her back has three skulls stacked like a Pyramid. The top has a flower headpiece, dangling earrings shaped like half-moons with a hand over the mouth 'Shh'. The second skull has a gem encrusted headpiece with a hand covering the ear hole. The last one has a jewel studded headband with a hand covering the eye holes. Underneath the skulls are the words, "Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, See No Evil".
"You ready?" I asked Lizzie. She was finishing tying up her hair into pigtails, "Ready." We drove Lizzie's car again. She just wanted to show off her car, especially since it has not been built yet. Blasting Blade With No Name by JT Music as we pulled into the parking lot of the Boardwalk and who do we see hanging around the front, Mike and Sam. Lizzie locks up her car after grabbing her MP3 player with an aux cord. Then we walked towards the place hosting Open-Mic Night. I signed us up and was told our spot wasn't for another hour, so we opted to walk around for a bit.
When we left the place we passed by Mike and Sam. Sam says something to Mike which I heard, "I think that's our neighbors." Well, now I know who I felt spying on me and my pups earlier. We continued to walk around, passing by the Lost Boys as they people watched and caught Marko and Paul's attention. Paul catcalled the both of us, but we just rolled our eyes and continued to walk back towards the stage. Our time is coming up in about 20 minutes.
The host called us to the stage, "Alright got one more act tonight. Let's hear it for Jenn and Lizzie." As he was introducing us Lizzie was hooking up her MP3 Player to the setup so our music would play. I grab the mic for me, and Lizzie has hers. We waited for the music to start and took a breath.
Lizzie Jenn Both
"I came from the darkness hiding on my own.
Like rain thoughts are harmless, leave me here alone.
The waking nightmares aren't as bad as dreaming, I suppose.
But it's pulling me under the lightning and thunder ignite a wilted rose.
Maybe I'm wretched and deserve this, I don't know.
Don't Save Me, I'm almost glad if this is how I go.
The monsters under my bed want to beat me to it though.
Every word they've said it goes 'round in my head while I drown in the undertow.
Look into my eyes And tell me what you see.
A demon in disguise Pretending to be me.
Bury your surprise And listen carefully.
He lives in my mind He'll never let me be free.
The wasteland never ends and it's killing me.
Wait and count to ten but I'll never be able to live I can't seem to breathe.
I'll die fading carefully so don't save me.
Standing on the edge, it's darker now.
And it's in my head, I can't hear a sound.
Facing the storm I'm cast out to sea.
I'll drown eventually so don't save me.
I think these walls could talk they'd tell me I'm insane.
I can't live anymore and I'm the one to blame.
At night my thoughts scare me, I can't face another day.
Every thought leaves it's mark I'm not scared of the dark.
I'm afraid when the sky turns gray.
The wasteland never ends and it's killing me.
Wait and count to ten but I'll never be able to live, I can't seem to breathe.
I'll die fading carefully so don't save me.
Standing on the edge, it's darker now.
And it's in my head, I can't hear a sound.
Facing the storm, I'm cast out to sea.
I'll drown eventually so don't save me.
Don't save me I think I'm in Hell.
These walls are talking I can tell.
I've bathed in fire since I fell.
Don't leave me on my own.
I'll drown eventually so don't save me."
We exit the stage; Lizzie grabs her MP3 before the host could snatch it. The both of us pushed through the crowd, most of which were the other performing acts getting pats on the back for a good show. As we get out of the crowd, I see Mike push his way out behind us leaving Sam struggling. Mike is such a douche. When we finally get out of the crowd, Lizzie and I bump into the Lost Boys.
Marko and Paul seemed to be waiting for us right on the edge of the crowd, Dwayne stood a little bit away, while David was leaning against the wall of the business next door. Marko was leering at Lizzie; his eyes wouldn't leave her top. It was a leather bikini top that looked similar to his jacket. Paul moved closer to me, "Damn, babe. You look good enough to eat." I laugh, "Too bad I'm not on the menu." I walk off with the rest of them following. Lizzie and Marko laugh loudly, Dwayne snorts, and David has his infamous smirk.
Paul stood open mouthed for a moment before shaking it off then followed us. The Lost Boys split from us and went to do their own thing. Probably taunt Michael, pick up Star and Laddie too.
We weren't ready to head home yet but soon. I could sense Lizzie wanted to get into some mischief. I look at her, "So? What's next?" She just gave me an evil grin. I shook my head, "No. The last time you had that look you had to be bailed out. I don't have that kind of money." She huffed, "Bitch, please. You were sitting right next to me giggling wondering what we're going to do next." I tried to deny it while holding in my laugh, "I was not." Lizzie raised one eyebrow and I lost it, "Okay, fine. So, what do you want to do?" Lizzie took a moment to look around and spotted her target. She nudged her head in the target's direction. I shook my head, "Here we go."
