Vash walked quietly in the forest, taking in all the natural beauty around him.
In the past, the planet wasn't always so green. When humanity first landed, many considered the planet hell
Mostly due to the high temperature and lawlessness that seemed to prevail in the absence of government
Booom!
Vash listened intently to the sound of high caliber gun fire followed by the death cry of a beowulf
"TELL ME BEFORE YOU SHOOT THAT THING AGAIN!" Vash relaxed as Weiss continued shouting.
"OH I'M SORRY I WAS JUST BUSY PROTECTING US FROM GRIM!" Guessing from how loud and obnoxious both girls were, he was getting closer. But his job was to protect Ruby, not do the exam for her.
Ozpin was very liberal with his words when he gave vash his first assignment basically leaving the ball in his court on how he went about to achieve his goal, in all it was a very smart approach allowing vash to achieve the goal at his discretion.
"You are the most -" Vash resumed his walk just as they left earshot, taking care to walk a little slower
Slowly, the natural ambiance resumed to the forest. One of his new favorite noises he learned were birds followed closely by rain.
"SCREECH!" vash looked to the large jet black raven, taking off with ruby and weiss hanging on for dear life
"crap!"Vash took off running after the large bird. "I guess this is what goodwitch meant!" Yelled vash.
vash was running for some time just barely keeping the nevermore in sight
watching as the large birt attempted to shake off its riders repeatedly
the bird then turned and dive low right over vash
He slid under a fallen tree and jumped a small pit following the grim. but it seen him as it made It's call beckoning other grim to emerge
A beowulf decided to try its luck and blocked vash's path with the skill and agility of a gymnast he started flipping gaining speed and leapt over the beowulf, stomping in another's face as he cleared a hedgeline 10 feet tall.
Landing in a roll, he continued to sprint after the large bird.
Suddenly, he jumped as a black shape darted underneath him, reacting quickly he grabbed a low branch and swung himself over a small upcoming ravine
Just as vash lands, he immediately dodged, throwing himself to the ground out of the way of a boarbatusk "whoa that was close, you almost had me dead to rights." Vash said breathlessly, standing brandishing his handgun.
Then came another from behind hearing it approach. He handspringed off the second boarbatusk, launching himself clear, while in the air he quickly aimed and shot his revolver twice, shooting out the grim's eyes, causing the beast to stwith its new blindness.
As he landed, the other boarbatusk was already charging, reaching for his second revolver. He used it to shoot out its two front knees, causing it to roll.
Moving out of the way, he emptied the remaining shots in his revolver
Into the soft underbelly.
"I'm sorry." Turning to Face his last enemy he casually walked to the blinded grim shooting its front leg it squealed like a pig as it struggled to stand with its destroyed leg walking to the side he shot out the hindleg causing the boarbatusk to roll onto its side as it struggled to stay righted panicking. Vash promptly shot the remaining rounds into its chest.
"I'm sorry, please forgive me."
Vash reloaded and holstered his handgun
Looking up at the sky, he sees the nevermore banking right above him
Looking closely, he sees a person covered in white begin to fall
"AHHHHHHH!" screamed Weiss, her arms windmilling to desperately attempt to correct her descent, falling fast.
Reacting, Vash ran up a tree backflipping and intercepting Weiss, wrapping his arms around her as he used his body to cushion her fall.
Luckily, god was smiling down on vash as he landed on the hard ground.
"Ow, that really hurt." Asid vash as he rolled weiss off him.
"Are you ok?" Ask vash, finally catching his breath.
"Oh uh, yeah,"said weiss. Vash stood, stretching his back
Weiss for all her effort was left in shock both from the rescue and her harrowing fall
"Don't suppose you know where Ruby's at?" asked Vash, looking at Weiss, who was still in a daze. She only looked up and pointed at the nevermore
"Dang, that's a bummer if only I could get to her." Vash replied in a thoughtful tone
"I could launch you," whispered Weiss, slowly gathering herself as she stood.
"With my glyphs, I can launch you." she said, readying her sword
Vash seeing the writing on the wall began to panic
"Oh, no, you don't need to doTHAAAAAAAA!"
Vash screamed as he was launched at the big black bird with little alligator tears streaking down his face.
"AHHHHH, MOMA, WHY ARE ALL THE CUTE GIRLS ALWAYS SO MEAN TO MEEEEEEEEE!"
Slamming into the side of the bird, he quickly brought his left hand to its side, activating his spike anchoring himself to the side of the bird
"Hi MR.VASH!" screamed ruby over the sound of the buffeting wind
"HEY RUBY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP HERE!" Vash yelled back while securing himself to the large bird
"WELL, WEISS GOT US LOST AND I SAID WE SHOULD CLIMB A TREE AND THEN THIS THING CAME BY, SO I WAS LIKE "LETS RIDE THE BIRDIE" yelled ruby while flailing from her scythe
"WELL THAT WASN'T A GOOD IDEA!" screamed Vash
"YEHA, WEISS FELL OFF EARLY AND I'VE BEEN TRYING NOT TO FALL DOWN, I THINK THE NEVERMORE KNOWS I CAN'T KEEP THIS UP, SO ONCE AND A WHILE IT'LL TRY TO KNOCK ME OFF!" stated ruby desperately trying to maintain her grip on her precious crescent rose "ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I FOUND THE RUINS. WE'VE BEEN CIRCLING THEM FOR A WHILE NOW!"
"WOW, THAT'S GREAT NEWS!" yelled Vash, looking down he spotted what she was talking about; it was an ancient ruin of a seed ship he could tell based on the shape of the supports. All the exterior paneling and equipment have either been stripped or eroded, leaving only the husk.
And it was getting bigger."WE NEED TO GO NOW IT'S ABOUT TO TRY AND RUB US OFF ON THOSE RUINS!"
Without waiting for an answer vash Pulled out a large silver revolver he swiftly aimed at the joints in the wing and fired all six of his rounds, the effect was immediate as the bird began to list colliding itself into the ruins as Vash and ruby let go sliding to a stop on one of the pylons as the nevermore was buried underneath the rubble
"Is it dead?" Asked Ruby, catching her breath. Vash took the moment to reload
The ground began to shake as the grim rose to its full height as it flexed its broken wing flapping as it took off again, favoring its left wing. "Not quite, get ready for a fight, use the ruins for cover. Nevermores are long-range fighters they shoot quills that can go right through steel!"
Vash began firing, running off to the side to distract the nevermore as ruby ran off to cover. It worked as intended when they nevermore began to shift fire, aiming for vash
Artfully, Vash danced and weaved between the fathers, eventually reaching cover, taking a breath he reloaded his revolver and peaked out
The bird was circling the ruins, eyeing the two humans hiding amongst the rubble
Vash looked to where ruby only to see her pinned by her cape by a large feather
"That's not good. It's using ruby as bait to lure me out." Vash said, watching as a stray feather impaled a foot from her.
"I didn't want to use one of these, but I have no choice." Pulling out a smoke grenade , he pulled the pin and threw
The effect was immediate as a dense cloud formed, wasting no time he ran to ruby and grabbed her by the waist and cutting the offending fabric that anchored her
"Mr.vash!" Yelled ruby, embarrassed as vash made off with her in his arm
Then suddenly, the cloud of smoke was blown away as they nevermore flew over
Leaving them exposed.
"RUBY!" Hearing her name being called, he sees Yang running towards them.
"I thought I told you to leave her alone, you fucking creep!" She yelled, before anyone could get a word in she threw a full powered left launching vash off the platform into the chasm below.
It was sunset as a tired and battered vash finally finished climbing up the cliff face to beacon rolling onto the soft grass as he took a moment to rest
"Congratulations. Mr vash you have passed my assessment." Turning his head, Vash spots the old professor holding 2 cups of coffee and a box of donuts.
Immediately filled with energy vash sat up and accepted the fresh cup
"Thanks to you, young ruby was able to finish the exam and pass initiation."Taking a pause he took a sip from his coffee before resuming."you did well in not interfering until necessary, i find it difficult to recruit teachers that know the value of discretion."
"It was no problem oz ,it's nothing less than a teacher's greatest honor to watch his students succeed!" Vash than immediate returns to the donut box gutting the poor box of its complex carbohydrates
"Well that's good to hear,Glenda was definitely shocked to hear that you passed in one piece, the poor woman was beside herself with worry." Stated ozpin as vash began to choke on his donuts, seeing his distress the senior professor gave vash the coffee
He cleared the cup in one gulp
"You mean, the pretty lady cared about me?!" Vash asked with puppy eyes
"Oh yes, I believe her words were " why did you hire that buffoon he's going to get someone killed".
Vash deflated for a moment in thought before responding
"Well I told her I'm the famous humanoid typhoon. She should have had more faith in me" standing up vash popped his back before rising to his height.
"You had my faith, after all how many men have a sixty billion double dollar bounty on their head and walk away without getting killed." said the professor thoughtfully
"So you know?"asked vash calmly
"I know as much as any old fairy tale book. Anyway class starts tomorrow you're going to help Glenda in the morning classes, and she'll monitor your's in the afternoon."
"I thought you trust me?"Asked vash he wasn't upset far from it he was expecting to hit barriers earlier
"It's not me that doesn't trust you, anyhow i must retire, in my advanced age i tend to need more rest Goodnight." He began to walk
"One last question?" Turning the professor nodded to vash "how good did ruby do?"
The professor smiled but vash was convinced it was because he asked the right questions.
"She passed full marks and was made team leader." He then turned and left
