AN: This story is proving to be a welcomed distraction from...other...stressful things. So here's more of it.
Walrus Ghost: Glad to see you're enjoying the story. My basic rule of thumb is that Lisa can fix up any injuries Lincoln suffers in the name of comedy. Which is most of them, since that's what I prefer to write.
dogbertcarroll - Lisa would never monopolize Lincoln in an environment where her siblings could find out and punish her for it. Maybe if she could invent some kind of hyperbolic time room where the time inside passed considerably faster than time did outside, but she'd still have to Lola proof the door. And that's not taking into account when Lynn or Luna could do now. The fear of reprisal keeps her honest. Ish.
Cookie Warlord - Lynn was able to beat Geon the first time by hitting it until it ran out of health. And since Kaiju typically don't have pockets, it wasn't able to put in another quarter/token before the countdown timer ran out.
...It's probably good I didn't come up with that until I was writing these authors notes, otherwise I might have tried to figure out a way to actually implement that in the story. And yes, I do enjoy the thoughts you share. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to spend watching this stuff you're suggesting at the moment since I have finals looming, but I'm looking forward to checking some of them out during my winter break. Especially since at the moment, I don't have much planned out for this story beyond this fight, so I'll need to go seeking inspiration.
Omnios: Think you named all the ones that normally come to mind, at least. And the answer is...I don't really know. This thing with Geon/Super Geon is sort of a proof of concept I'm testing, but I have some vague ideas involving at least a couple of the other characters. At the very least, I'm pretty confident Eiffelyte is going to be making an appearance. One of the drawings I mentioned previously which inspired me to write this story (and my other stories by extension) is of Luan fighting Eiffelyt, so I feel sort of obligated to bring him into the story in some capacity.
guest: Pretty safe bet that Lori and Bobby broke up off screen at some point in the last 5-6 years, since the chances of me not indulging in Loricoln at some point are basically nonexistent.
Tornado man: At least one has a pretty decent chance of appearing. The premise of King of the Monsters 2 involved the earth-based kaiju main characters having to fight off invading alien kaiju, so if I end up using any of those characters, aliens are involved by default.
Guest99 - Good to know, I never think to check youtube for that kind of stuff. I'll add that to my to do list.
"So uh…" Lynn said, shooting nervous glances at her teammates. "Pretty sure you guys mentioned you hunted dinosaurs back on that island, right? Got anything that might be helpful here?"
"I usually used a spear for that," Sam murmured back, unable to take her eyes off the looming monstrosity. "Besides, pretty sure this thing is a dragon, not a dinosaur."
"They're both giant lizards!" Lynn hissed back. "What's the diff—"
"Look out!" Luna shouted, cutting her off just in time for the three girls to scatter as flaming orb smashed into the ground they'd just been standing on and exploded, scattering fire in all directions.
"Ha!" Sam crowed triumphantly. "It breathes fire! And that means dragon!"
"Again," Lynn shouted back, I'm not seeing what difference that—WOAH!"
Once more the sports star had leap away to avoid another blast of flame.
"Didn't you beat this thing before?" Luna called out. "How'd you pull it off that time?"
"Uh, I guess it was something like this!" Lynn shouted back, ducking under a gout of flame, but this time coming up sprinting, charging straight at the creature. As she made her approach, she somersaulted into the air.
"Lynnnnn…!" She shouted, coming out of the somersault with one leg extended. "Kick!"
She crashed into the creatures stomach with the force of several freight trains, the sheer magnitude of her strike causing an explosion of air that would have blown away lesser creatures that were unlucky enough to be standing nearby. Unfortunately for Lynn, the tonnage of angry lizard she'd attacked remained unmoved, in every sense of the word. Feeling herself beginning to slip, Lynn kick-flipped off the scaly hide in which her foot had become embedded, and landed lightly on her feet (relatively speaking)—
"Gah!"
—only to narrowly avoid getting her face clawed off as Geon retaliated.
"Oooookay," Lynn said as she danced her way back to where the other girls were waiting. "So...clearly that doesn't work anymore. I'm willing to accept suggestions at this point."
As she finished speaking, Geon threw back its head, sucking in a deep lungful of air.
"...Scatter?" Sam suggested, as tendrils of flame began to trickle out of the edges of the creature's mouth.
"Scattering sounds good," Luna added quickly.
"This...doesn't seem to be going very well," Lincoln observed, wincing as he looked upon the large screen that was showing the fight in progress.
"Truly?" Lisa asked dryly as the pair watched Luna and Lynn kick sand onto an only slightly singed Sam. "I hadn't noticed."
With a sigh, the scientist grabbed a nearby microphone and pulled it closer.
"Girls," She said condescendingly into the mic, "In the event that you've overlooked this one crucial detail, you're supposed to beat the monster. Whatever it is you're doing right now doesn't seem to be very conducive towards that goal."
"News flash, Science Queen!" Lynn snapped back, her booming voice echoing around the bunker. "We're trying! In case you haven't noticed, this guy's gotten way tougher since the last time we fought! So if you've got any advice, feel free to share it!"
"Alright," Said Lisa. "I would advise you to do better."
The ponytailed brunette let out a snarl of rage, which quickly turned to a cry of alarm as she dove out of the way of another blast.
"Actually," Lincoln interjected, "I think Lynn had the right idea. Look here…"
He gestured at a monitor that was solely focused on the creature.
"Geon's been zoning them with its fire breath," Lincoln explained. "Except for when Lynn got up close. Then it attacked her with its claws—!"
"—Because the relative height difference between the combatants makes its breath far more difficult to bring to bear at that distance," Lisa concluded, giving Lincoln an approving nod. "Which makes forcing it into melee a far more preferable option, in theory. Well done, Lincoln, that's an excellent observation."
"A-are you dudes strategizing?" Luna's panicked voice barked over the speakers. "Because we could really use a plan here!"
"We're pretty sure he can't flame you if you get in close," Lincoln summarized. "Get inside his range, stick to him like glue, and...uh, hit him really hard?"
A beat of silence followed.
"I have questions…" Sam began, only to immediately be cut off.
"I don't," Lynn interjected. "Leave it to me, bro!"
And with that Lynn shot off like a crimson bullet, flying across the ground, swift and agile in flagrant defiance of her size. Geon began prepping another blast, but a burst of speed allowed Lynn to close the distance before he could fire it off, seemingly materializing in front of the beast out of thing air. For an instant, even the creature seemed bewildered by the suddenness with which she'd seemingly appeared. And then...Lynn stopped.
"LYNN'S...!" Shouted the girl in question, planting her feet and winding one fist back. He couldn't say whether it was some trick of the lighting, or whether he was just caught up in the moment, but Lincoln could swear that a faint, glowing aura surrounded her as she did so. "ULTRA…!"
Her fist began to tremble with barely restrained might. "FIGHTING! MIRACLE—!"
The image blurred as the video feed struggled to keep up with the sudden explosion of movement, but Lincoln was able to make out the important parts in the fractions of seconds it took for things to metaphorically fall apart. He saw Geon redistributing his weight with movements that seemed surprisingly human-like, albeit through what was essentially slideslow slides, due to the sudden demands placed upon their bandwidth. He saw it spin on it's heels(?) in a stunning display of agility, and he saw its massive, mace-like tail whipping through the air straight at Lynn's head. His instinct screamed at him to cry out a warning to his sister, but before he could even begin formulating the decision to do so, it was too late.
CRRRRRRACK!
The sound of bone smashing through bone resounded throughout the bunker as Lynn took a tail swipe straight to the face and was sent careening, smashing into ground with the force of a thunderbolt, tossing and tumbling end over end until finally she slid to a stop.
"Lynn!" He called out, slamming his hands upon the console. "Lynn! Answer me!"
"N-now, big brother," Lisa cautioned him. "Please go easy on my hardware! And remember that our already thick-skulled sibling has had her durability enhanced by magnitudes thanks to my serum. So there's a very good chance that she—"
"UUUUGGGGGGHHHHH!"
All four listeners on the line winced in unison as a loud, pained groan rang in their ears simultaneously.
"A-anyone get the number of the lizard that hit me?" Lynn moaned as she struggled to climb to her feet.
"...She'll be...fine." Lisa concluded, though her professional tone couldn't hide the way her shoulder sagged with relief. "Ish."
"Ish?" Lincoln queried, shooting worried glances between the scientist, and the extremely dazed looking brunette.
"I made her tough," Lisa replied, shrugging. "I didn't make her invincible."
"My hair hurts," Said Lynn, her eyes only slightly unfocused. "Wait...that might be my head…"
"Okay," Lincoln said, pinching the birdge of his nose as he watched Sam and Luna try to help Lynn to her feet. "That was my bad—"
"Absurd!" Lisa scoffed. "Your plan was fine, Lincoln. You advised Lynn to get in close and pressure Geon from inside its breath weapon's range. You didn't advise her to show boat and waste a valuable opportunity to defeat the beast!"
"THERE'S NO POINT IN FIGHTING KAIJU IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO CALL OUT YOUR ATTACK NAMES!"
"THERE'S NO POINT IN FIGHTING KAIJU IF SHE ISN'T GOING TO CALL OUT HER ATTACK NAMES!"
Again, listeners to the conversation clutched their heads and winced as loud bellowing rang directly into their ears. This time, however, the initial bout of pain was quickly followed by surprise at the realization that the cry of outrage happened in stereo.
"What?" Lincoln said, as Lisa openly gaped at him. "There's a right way to do these things!"
A moment of silence filled the bunker, and then the speakers crackled to life.
"Lincoln?" Lynn asked. "Have I ever told you I love you?"
"A-all the time, Lynn," He said, clearing his throat as he attempted to fight off the heat that was blossoming across his face.
"Well now I love you even more. Just wait till I get my hands on you tonight, you aren't going to be sleeping for—"
"ANYWAYS," Lincoln shouted, cutting her off. "I'm pretty sure Lynn realized from her earlier failed attack, that Geon's just too tough for any old attack to work. And she was trying to gather her strength to get around that durability issue. Right, Lynn?"
"Y-yeah," Said the athlete. "That's what I was doing…"
At the same time, Lincoln's ears perked up as he overheard what Sam and Luna probably thought was whispering.
"I'm not really sure how I feel about this," Sam said in a low voice.
"I'm not worried," Luna replied. "I'm pretty sure I can fix him."
"You mean his...terrible taste in Lynns, or his back after she's done with him?"
"If we can focus!" Lisa snapped, her voice cutting through the chatter like a hot knife through butter.
"There's a monster that needs to be dealt with! And we can't do that until you three start working together!"
"Um, guys?" Sam cut in. "Hate to interrupt the dressing down, but...are you guys seeing what I'm seeing?"
Lincoln and Lisa exchanged glances, and the scientist began to operate her command console, directing the drones connected to the main feed to focus on the kaiju. To their mutual surprise, the beast was simply standing there, its muscles coiled, as if prepared to attack but making no move to do so.
"Kinda looks like it's just...watching us," Said Luna.
Lisa sighed irritably. "Look," She said, "Lincoln was on the right track. Unfortunately, there were some variables we couldn't account for. Namely, that tail, which in hindsight is a fairly obvious answer to the limitations of Geon's fire breath. It spews fire at enemies from a distance, and anything that gets close needs to deal with that tail. A combination that's simple, elegant—"
"And packs a wallop," Lynn interjected, her eyes glazing over momentarily.
"So we've got to neutralize the tail too." Sam said, looking to the other girls. "Maybe we go in together? It'd be a lot easier if we could just...cut it off or something. Lisa? Any chance you've got like, a giant sword, or a tomahawk or something squirreled away?"
"I'd take an electromagnetic yo-yo at this point," Luna muttered, causing the other girls to look at her, eyebrows raised. "What? We've all shared a tv with Linc at one point or another. I thought that show was pretty rad."
Lisa coughed nervously as Lincoln's questioning gaze fell upon her.
"Obviously the development of Titan-sized weaponry was a natural second step after Lynn inadvertently proved that the Titan concept was viable, and I immediately drew up a proposal saying as much. I was actually planning on having you, Lincoln, consult with me as to the design aesthetics once there was time. Unfortunately the actual proposal—"
"Something about budget constraints?" Lincoln asked, wearily.
"The board said we'd revisit it at the next meeting," Said the scientist, shrugging helplessly, eliciting a round of groans from Lincoln and the girls.
"Okay," Lynn said, pounding one fist into her palm. "So this is going to be harder than it needed to be...thanks Lisa—"
"Hey!"
"But we can still do this," She continued. "Simple modification to Linc's plan. The three of us rush in, first two that make it go after the tail. Two of us should be enough to pin it down, leaving the third to deal with Big Green."
"And spread out on your approach," Lincoln added. "That fire breath is strong stuff but he's got to commit to it. Make him pick his target—"
"And the rest of us can rush through," Luna said, nodding enthusiastically. "He can't stop all of us like that!"
A beastial grunt of exertion drew Lincoln's attention back to the dedicated kaiju feed, where he saw Geon clenching its fists clenched, and shoulders hunched. Before he could vocalize his puzzlement, the creature let out another ear-piercing roar, and the spike on the top of its head grew, shooting upward until it was roughly half the length of the kaiju's body. Then to compound his surprise, Geon reached up, and snapped the spike off at it's base.
"What…" Lincoln began
"...the hell?" Lynn concluded, looking equally perplexed.
The group then watched in stunned silence as the draconic kaiju took a few experimental swings with the improvised weapon, and then settled into a ready stance, as if beckoning the girls.
"...Well," Sam said, blinking in surprise. "That...seems...a little unfair..."
