Kaiju: (Animan. Kai-Ju.) Giant beast
Jaeger: (Solitan. Yager) Hunter
Jaeger von Jaegers and Kaiju: Hunter of Hunters and Giant beasts.
We humans and Faunus used to think that giant monsters were just things of fairy tales. But we learned the hard way that there are some truth in fairy tales.
Kaiju. It was once a Animan word that was hardly known, even those in Mistral weren't aware of it. But since 1954he name is now feared, hated and cursed by Humans and Faunus alike.
The First Kaiju attacked Mistral, ten years after the end of the Great War. It was given the name 'Gojira' after a local legend from Odo Island that is now translated to Godzilla. For days, nothing seemed to kill the giant monster. Tanks, bombs, missiles and jets. It shrugged them all off with barely a scratch. The only weapon not used was an Atlas Dust Bomb.
Godzilla emerged from the inland sea and set fire to the village of the Branwen Tribe along with twenty other villages before making it to Mistral, Wind Path and finally Argus. The First Kaiju was 50 meters tall. It had the resemblance of a humanoid dinosaur with three rows bony white dorsal fins on its back. Its face was close to that of a cat with large fangs and pointed ears and eyes burning like flames.
Dozens of Huntsmen, Huntresses, including the Grimm Reaper herself, and the Atlas Military fired everything they had but the giant monster merely roared in annoyance before a blue light appeared behind it.
Thousands of lives were lost, and the Grimm made it worse. All hope seemed lost, but then a scientist named Doctor Daisuke Serizawa used a device called the Oxygen Destroyer. He said it could destroy everything alive in water by destroying oxygen. Dr. Serizawa feared the OD's destructive abilities should it be used as a weapon, so he burned his notes and only used it once on the First Kaiju and himself and took the secrets of the Oxygen Destroyer with him to the grave. They searched the whole sea but couldn't find a body. No corpse. Nothing. Atlas had declared that the Oxygen Destroyer worked. That Godzilla was dead. The nightmare was over.
Or so it seemed.
Hardly a year later another Kaiju attacked Vacuo. It was designated as Anguirus. Ten teams of professional Huntsmen and Huntresses have faced the Kaiju. Less than half returned alive, they reported that the Kaiju had perished in a earthquake.
A large ankylosaurs like Kaiju roared as it felt the fire of the human warriors firing at his underbelly. Anguirus was thirty meters tall on all fours with a spiky shell and frill and a small horn on its snout. Anguirus snorted before it jumped in the air and curled into a ball like a hedgehog or armadillo and bounced away, killing some Huntsmen along the way.
The ground shook and the earth cracked before Anguirus roars in surprise as he falls into a crevice that formed beneath him.
In 1956, two giant mutated pterodactyls codenamed Rodans attacked the town of Mountain Glenn outside of Vale. They were discovered in a Dust mine and wreaked havoc that awakened the sleeping Wyvern Grimm in Mountain Glenn. The most surprising thing the world saw that day happened. Kaiju fighting against the Grimm.
As the two Rodans circled in the sky, Mountain Glenn began to shake and crack before the giant Wyvern Grimm burst out with a screech. The male Rodan roared at the Grimm who responded. The people of Mountain Glenn look up to the sky as both Kaiju and Grimm fly towards each other and collide in the air.
The two Kaiju went to a active volcano to nest and Atlas used a Fire Dust strike to cause the volcano to erupt and killed both Kaiju.
Another Kaiju attacked Mantle in 1961. It was named Mothra from the natives of Infant Island. It was a giant insect in larva stage.
Mothra was twenty meters tall and 65 meters long in larva form. She slithered through the slums of Mantle before cocooning in the Crater. Mothra emerged in butterfly form with a wingspan of over 90 meters. Many people, including Nicholas and his wife Martha Schnee, look at the Kaiju in awe and wonder. Unlike the Kaiju before her, Mothra didn't look intimidating or frightening. She looked absolutely beautiful.
Three years later, two Kaiju attacked Menagerie. Codenamed the Gargantuan Twins: Giara and Sanda. This lead to Atlas creating the Atlassian Colossus and the First Jaeger Jet Jaguar. Jet Jaguar and Colossus fought the Kaiju from the island to the Great Sea where the two Kaiju were killed in a underwater volcanic eruption.
Jet Jaguar charges at the Gargantuan Twins while the Colossus provides cover fire. The two ape-like Kaiju were pelted with heavy fire before Jet Jaguar was close enough to perform a clothesline technique to knock them both down.
Once realizing they were outmatched, the Kaiju twins ran and jumped into the sea. The First Jaegers jumped down and swam after them before they were shown battling on the sea floor before a stray Dust missile hit a underwater volcano that erupted on impact and killed the two Kaiju.
After that, the world entered a state of peace. The Grimm even seemed to have disappeared. Until the year 2013.
There are people, young and old, who'd look up at the night sky and wonder if there was life. Turns out they were looking in the wrong direction.
When alien life entered our world, it was from deep the Great Sea. From a fissure between two tectonic plates opened a portal between dimensions. We called it The Breach.
And they came.
I was five years old when the first Kaiju Grimm made land in the Kingdom of Vale on August 10th, 2013, K-Day.
An 7.1 earthquake was the only warning before the Trespasser Grimm emerged from the harbor. It stood 302 feet tall. Like every Grimm, its skin was black with bony white armor and red eyes. It almost resembled a dinosaur but with another pair of smaller arms under its main ones and a crest on its head that made it looked to be shaped like an axe.
The Trespasser roared as it rampaged through the downtown area of Vale before turning its head to the right. Standing before it was the First Jaeger Jet Jaguar.
By the time the combined effort of Jet Jaguar, Atlas tanks, jets and professional Huntsmen finally killed the Trespasser it was six days later and 35 miles away from Vale. Tens of thousands of lives were lost. The City of Vale and Mountain Glenn were destroyed along with fifteen neighboring villages. I lost my grandparents in the attack. Jet Jaguar was badly damaged. Unlike the smaller Grimm, the Trespasser didn't disappear into dust, instead it rotted away, and its flesh deemed the area around Mountain Glenn uninhabitable.
We mourned our dead and memorialized the attack.
In the Vale Museum of Natural History, the skull of the Trespasser was displayed for all to see.
Six months later, the second Kaiju Grimm attack happened in Solitas and Atlas Academy was destroyed by the Kaiju Hundun.
Then the third and the fourth happened. These were different then the Kaiju from before. They wouldn't retreat, they would fight until they died. It wasn't long before the world of Remnant decided it had enough!
Lead by Drs. Pietro Polendina and Jasper Schoenfeld, Beacon Headmaster Ozpin and Atlas General James Ironwood, the leaders of the four kingdoms pooled their resources together, putting aside their petty rivalries for the sake of survival and made the Jaeger Program.
Jet Jaguar wasn't enough. It was outdated and outnumbered.
With the support of all four Kingdoms and the formation of the Remnant Defense Corps. The Huntsmen Academies were changed into Ranger Academies for those that wanted to become Ranger pilots.
To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own.
Mark I Jaeger, Brawler Yukon was completed in 2014 but the pilot, Captain Adam Casey couldn't control the mech for long.
There were setbacks at first. The Jaegers needed to have better piloting systems than Jet Jaguar. But the neural load proved to be too much for a single pilot. So, a two-pilot implemented. Left hemisphere and right hemisphere pilot control.
Soon Jet Jaguar was fighting alongside the new Jaegers. Brawler Yukon, Coyote Tango, Horizon Brave, Romeo Blue, Tacit Ronin and Cherno Alpha.
In 2015, Jet Jaguar was decommissioned and reused a training Jaeger.
We started winning. Jaegers were killing Kaiju Grimm everywhere. But the Jaegers were only as good as the pilots. So the Rangers became rock stars. Danger became propaganda. Kaiju Grimm into toys.
But then it all changed...
He returned.
On September 5th, 2017, during a Kaiju attack in Argus, the water rippled. The Kaiju sensed the presence of another enemy. The Jaegers Romeo Blue, Coyote Tango and Tacit Ronin detected another Kaiju bigger than the Category 2 Kaiju before them.
Through the point of view of a video camera, three rows of parallel bony white dorsal fins appeared before another Kaiju emerged. But it wasn't just any Kaiju.
SKRRRREEEEEOOOOOOO-OOOOOONNNNKK!
It was the First Kaiju. Gojira. Or as the world knew him...
Godzilla, the King of the Monsters.
His reappearance shocked the world. Godzilla was supposed to be dead! Yet here he was.
Many speculated he was the offspring or mate of the first Gojira come to avenge its kin/mate. Others said that it was the original back from the dead. Its soulless, emotionless and lifeless white eyes seemed to have confirmed that. Whatever it was, he was here.
The Kaiju Grimm charged at Godzilla only for Godzilla to spin around and slam his tail into the Kaiju Grimm and it was knocked into the water. As the other Kaiju struggled to get up, Godzilla grabbed it by the tail and stomped his foot onto the Kaiju's leg. The Kaiju roared in pain before Godzilla grabbed the Kaiju's head and began to pull on the Kaiju's horned head until he ripped the Kaiju Grimm head clean off.
Godzilla paid the Jaegers no mind until one of them fired a missile at his back. The First Kaiju turned his head at the three Jaegers before turning away and continued walking before two of them charged and the other fired more missiles.
Everything went from bad to worse.
Vale Shatterdome. 0100 Hours and thirty minutes. September 5, 2018.
"Harbinger's Omen and Agni Draco. Report to Bay 006, level A-42 and Bay 007-A-41. Remnant Kaiju detected. Codename: Godzilla. Category 5. 90,000 metric tons."
Qrow Branwen groaned as he opened his eyes. When he did, he saw Summer Rose standing over his sister's bed with a whistle in her hand. Qrow rolled his eyes just as Summer blew her whistle, this caused Raven Branwen to fall out of her bed with a small yelp of surprise.
"You heard it, rise and shine Team STRQ!" Summer said in a cheerful voice. "We are being deployed!"
Raven glared at the silver-eyed Ranger from the floor. Yeah, she was not a morning person. At all. Taiyang rose from his bed and stretched his arms. "Morning guys," he muttered.
"Get dressed guys. I'll wait for you guys outside," Already dressed, Summer ran out of Team STRQ's room. Qrow could hear Raven cursing under her breath as she got dressed. He rolled his eyes. Yeah, Summer's enthusiasm was annoying at times, but hey. She keeps the team together.
"What time is it anyways?" Tai asked. Qrow looked at his Scroll. "One thirty."
"AM?" Raven asked in a growl.
"Yep." Qrow replied making a pop on the "p." Raven grumbled that she should not have taken the job as a Ranger getting Tai to chuckle. The blonde Ranger turned to Qrow. "What do you say Bird Boy? Ready to take on the King of Monsters himself and make sure he stays dead?" he asked holding out his fist.
Qrow gave him a fist bump just as Summer knocked on the door repeatedly. "Guys come on!" she called. "Our Jaegers are waiting!" As Qrow walked to the door he turned to Tai. "Tai, don't get too cocky," he said with a smile.
Team STRQ walked down the halls with a aura of confidence.
I know what you're thinking. Branwens as Rangers? Aren't they the infamous bandits in all of Anima? Yeah, I know no one sane would pick me and my sister Raven for heroes. But Ozpin wasn't sane. Or at least that's what he joked about when he let us attend Beacon.
The team then entered the Drive suit Room. Qrow rolled his shoulders while Tai punched his fists together. The four Rangers stand still as their circuitry suits on, and technicians worked on their armor.
But we had a second chance for a new start. And we had a unique skill when it came to being pilots... We were Drift compatible.
After they were suited up, Team STRQ made their way to their respective Jaeger Conn Pods/heads. The Branwens' Jaeger Conn Pod looked similar to a Grimm mask. A Nevermore to be exact.
Harbinger's Omen was a Mark III Jaeger with colors of red, black and gray and a pure white face with red tribal markings. Harbinger's Omen was a more agile fighter compared to its partner.
Draco Rose was also a Mark III Jaeger with a more humanoid face and colors of goldish brown with white. Unlike Omen, Draco Rose was a heavily armored and a heavier hitter.
"Good morning, Team STRQ!" A male voice sounded in the Comms. Qrow reached up to press the microphone button with a smile. "Peter, what's going on?" He asked.
In LOCCENT Mission Control room, Peter Port sat. He was an old professor of Team STRQ from their days of Beacon Academy and now he was one of LOCCENTs officers. "Pretty good," Port replied with a laugh. "Nothing's better than start the day with fighting a Kaiju in the morning."
"I'd prefer if it was after a full night's sleep and after breakfast!" Raven snapped. This got her team and Port to laugh before she said, "Fuck you!" This, of course, caused them to laugh harder.
"May I remind the severity of this mission?" Marshal Stacker Pentecost asked from behind Port who sat up straighter. Next to him was General James Ironwood, Beacon Headmaster Ozpin and his deputy/Combat Class Professor Glynda Goodwitch.
"All of you along with the Atlas Jaeger, Saber Paladin." The Marshal ignored Summer who was grumbling about the name not being dramatic or iconic while Qrow sarcastically commented how original it sounded being named after a Creature of Grimm, "are going to be intercepting the First Kaiju codenamed Godzilla. Who has survived everything except a Jaeger and a tactical Dust warhead." he said sternly. "We need you all to take this mission seriously."
In the Conn Pods, the Rangers stopped smiling. "Understood sir." Summer spoke in a serious tone. "We will do our best."
"Engaging drop." Port said, also getting serious. "Marshal Pentecost, General Ironwood, Headmaster Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch on deck," he declared as he pressed buttons on the console in front of him. "Securing the Conn Pods and readying for the drop."
"Release for drop," Raven announced before the drop occurred. The Conn Pods were attached the Jaegers in no time.
"Rangers, prepare for Neural Handshake." General Ironwood said to the mic.
Port said, "Starting in 15 seconds."
In Harbinger's Omen, Raven turned to her brother. "Ready to step into my head, Caw-Caw?"
"No, please." Qrow replied. "After you Rae. Age before beauty, old lady." He snorts while Raven rolled her eyes. But soon they relaxed along with Tai and Summer in their Jaeger.
"Neural Handshake initiated."
The Drift. Jaeger tech. Based on high-tech DARPA jet fighter neural-link systems and Atlas robotic operations. Two pilots, mind and Aura melding through one another's with the body of a machine. The deeper your bond... the better you fight.
Both Rangers breathed deeply. Tai and Summer smiled at each other while the twins nodded at one another.
"Neural handshake strong and holding." Port reported.
"Left hemisphere calibrating," Qrow reported with Tai, both raising their left hand. Their Jaegers copied their movements.
"Right hemisphere calibrating," Raven and Summer reported raising their hand with the Jaegers.
The two Jaegers mimicked their pilots. Flexing their fingers before slamming a fist into an open palm before walking out of the hangar doors.
Outside stood the Atlassian Mark IV Jaeger Saber Paladin. It was black and white with streaks of blue and a Saber Grimm like head. Hence the name. It was piloted by Harriet Bree and Clover Ebi and also one of most heavily armed Jaeger from Atlas.
"Hey, I can see Beacon Academy from here." Summer said, looking to the right. She was right though; Beacon Ranger Academy was in view from the Vale Shatterdome. "Do you think Galen and the girls can see us?" she asked Tai.
"No, it's a school night, Sum." The blonde Ranger replied. "They're probably asleep."
He was wrong. Ruby Rose and Yang Xiao Long and their cousin Galen Branwen were wide awake and watching the Jaegers being deployed with their teammates.
"Good luck, Mom and Dad!" Ruby and Yang cheered from their dorm window.
Blake Belladonna turned to Weiss Schnee. "You think they know that they can't hear them form that distance?" the Cat Faunus asked. "They probably do," the Schnee heiress replied, "but don't care." Blake nodded. That sounded Ruby and Yang.
Galen Branwen was sitting on the roof with his team mates the Martin brothers Braedy and Maxwell and Oscar Pine. He had black hair with brown hair. He was eighteen years old with a muscular build. He was Qrow's adopted son. Oscar Pine was younger than his teammates; fourteen years of age. Which also made him the youngest in the academy. His father, Ozpin, had taken him as his apprentice. He had tan skin and hazel eyes and dark freckles on his face. Ruby Rose was a fifteen, making her the second youngest.
The four cadets ignored the heavy rain as they watched the three Jaegers with bated breath. It was always thrilling and inspiring to see Jaegers in action.
The three Jaegers began to march into the raging sea. Ready to fight the King of Monsters.
Being a Huntsman first before a Ranger, I saw many fights. But I also saw things you can't fight. The acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you got to get out of the way. It changes when you're in a Jaeger. Suddenly you can fight the hurricane. And win.
The Jaegers walked nearly ten miles before Marshal Pentecost spoke on the Comms. "Jaegers, get ready," he said sternly, "Godzilla is nearly a mile away from your position."
Hearing that, the Jaegers entered a battle stance. Qrow turned to Raven, "You think the museum would pay for Godzilla's skeleton?" he asked with a grin.
"Probably," replied Raven with a matching grin.
"Hey, stay focused." Clover said sternly both to the Branwen Twins and his partner Harriet Bree.
Then the water in front of them began to bulge. And not because of the wind. Something big and alive. Three parallel rows of bony white dorsal fins broke through the surface followed by the body of a dinosaur looking Kaiju. Its scales were black as the night itself with white claws on each digit and large fangs. Godzilla had a lizard like head with a hunched neck. But what was really memorable was the pupil less, lifeless and soulless eyes.
It reminded Qrow of the theory that this was the first Godzilla back from the dead. His eyes made him look like a zombie. It was both intimidating and badass.
The three Jaegers may have been nearly eighty meters tall, but the First Kaiju still towered over them all by thirty meters. It made him look three heads taller than them all.
Godzilla looked at the three Jaegers before him. His lips curled into a sneer before he opened his jaws and roared.
SKRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNKK!
The roar would probably haunt the Rangers for the rest of their days, but they couldn't focus on that now. They had a job to do. A bone-chilling roar wasn't going to stop them from doing it.
"You guys ready?" Qrow asked on the Comms in an eager tone. "Let's send this fossil back where he belongs." Tai replied.
"Let's do this." Summer said a matching eager tone. Saber Paladin and Harbinger's Omen activated their long-ranged weapons and fired numerous missiles of different Dust and Draco Rose charged forward and punched Godzilla in the face and torso. The First Kaiju growled as the Jaeger punched him numerous times.
Back at Beacon, Ruby and Yang were using binoculars to see the fight. "Ooh! Mom and Dad are giving him hell!" The two sisters cheered.
On the roof, Galen and Oscar both held fake microphones in their hands. "Ooh! Draco Rose is throwing the first punch!" Galen said, dramatically. "Followed by two jabs and a cross."
"And an uppercut!" Oscar said.
Then Godzilla caught the Jaeger's fist. He growled at Draco before he raised his right foot and kicked the robot in the chest, sending it back. Summer and Tai cried out as the Jaeger landed on its back.
Galen and Oscar winced. "Ooh! Godzilla's caught the punch and he's kicked the Jaeger down." they said as if they were spectators of a wrestling match.
Harbinger jumped in and raised its left hand. A sword similar to Qrow's sword-shotgun-scythe weapon Harbinger unsheathed from its wrist. Raven and Qrow let out a battle cry as they swung downward, the Jaeger slashing across the left side of the First Kaiju's face.
Godzilla roared before he turned around and swung his tail. The spiky appendage collided with Harbinger's side and knocked the Jaeger aside. Meanwhile, Saber Paladin continued firing at Godzilla's exposed back before Godzilla turned around.
Clover felt Harriet's fear rise before she shuddered. He couldn't blame her. The bleeding scar over the Remnant Kaiju's eye made him more intimidating especially since the Kaiju seemed to ignore the blood on his eye. Like he didn't feel any pain from the injury at all.
Then two pilots saw the back of Godzilla begin to glow neon blue. He leaned back and inhaled, through the stormy weather Clover saw small blue particles swirling around the Kaiju. As if Godzilla was absorbing power from the storm itself!
"Activate the Hard Light Dust shield!" He exclaimed as he and Harriet pressed some buttons on the small console in between them. Instantly a Hard Light Dust shield formed around the Atlassian Jaeger.
"Harbinger! Draco! Get behind us!" Harriet called out.
As the two Jaegers rose up, Godzilla opened his jaws and Qrow saw the inside of his mouth glowing blue before Godzilla closed his jaws, seeming to be glaring at him directly.
"Shit." Qrow cursed before Harbinger and Draco moved to stand behind the Saber Paladin.
"Godzilla's getting his atomic breath ready." Braedy said worriedly as he leaned forward a bit. He turned to his brother. "You think Saber's Hard Light shield will hold?"
"Only one way to find out." Maxwell replied as they and their teammates watched the fight. Team RWBY also felt worried at seeing the blue glow emitting in the distance.
Godzilla opened his mouth and a blueish white beam fired towards Saber Paladin. The beam hit the shield and managed to push the Atlassian Jaeger back and knock the other two down. Team STRQ cried out as their respective Jaegers fell onto their backs.
Saber Paladin's shield flickered as it continued to absorb more of Godzilla's attack before it shattered and hit the Jaeger in the chest.
"The Hard Light shield's gone," Port said to the Marshal and General, both looking at the monitors surprised. Hard Light Dust may be artificial, but it had held against every attack used against it. Ironwood glanced at the monitor that showed Godzilla. The atomic breath must be really powerful to go through the shield.
Back at sea, Draco Rose was the first Jaeger to get back up, but Godzilla gave them no time to move. He charged and swung his tail at the Jaeger's chest. "Gah!" Summer cried out as her suit gave her a phantom pain of the impact as the Jaeger was knocked to the side.
Harbinger had gotten back up and a large sword that looked similar to Qrow's sword-scythe-shotgun weapon, Harbinger, unsheathed from its right wrist. The Mark III Jaeger jumped up and slashed across the right side of Godzilla's face.
The First Kaiju roared before spinning around and knocking the Jaeger down with his tail. He then raised his foot and stomped on Harbinger's left foot.
Qrow held his leg and screamed in pain as electricity surged through his leg. Raven raised Harbinger's arm and stabbed the sword into Godzilla's thigh. Godzilla looked down and knocked the arm down, leaving the sword inside his thigh. He then reached down and pulled the blade from his thigh. He tilted his head, looking at the blade in his hand like a knife before he raised it up and stabbed into the Jaeger's chest.
Saber had gotten back up and unleashed Hell on Godzilla with every weapon it had. Godzilla turned his head at the Jaeger. His white eyes sending shivers down both Clover and Harriet's spines.
Godzilla then smelled Dust from within the Atlassian Jaeger. He growled and charged through the rapid fire hitting him in the face and chest before he knocked Saber Paladin down with his weight. Godzilla stabbed his claws into the Jaeger and pulled the armor plating off, revealing its Dust reactor. Godzilla wrapped his clawed hands around the reactor and ripped it out like he ripped a man's heart out.
In the Conn Pod, the Jaeger instantly went offline. Port turned to Pentecost in LOCCENT. "Saber's offline but the pilots are alive." Port reported grimly. Ozpin and Glynda looked to each other in concern while General Ironwood and Pentecost gritted their teeth in frustration and anger.
Back out in the bay, Godzilla looked at the three down Jaegers with a sneer before turning his sights towards the shore and the nearest building to the shoreline.
Beacon Ranger Academy.
Ruby and Yang were looking at the fight with binoculars and telescopes when they saw the First Kaiju looking directly at them.
So, what do you think?
This is inspired by a few other Godzilla-Pacific Rim crossovers as well as a RWBY-Pacific Rim crossover on Wattpad by BradimusSupreme and I added a couple of OCs of my own. Galen Branwen is my first OC introduced in this story and he is the adopted son of Qrow Branwen, his name is taken from Galen Marek/Starkiller from the Star Wars fandom. The Maxwell brothers are BradimusSupreme's OCs. They have Raleigh and Yancy's role in that story and Braedy is in a relationship with Yang Xiao Long. Romance is not a strong focus in this.
What's different for this crossover compared to others, Godzilla is going to be a complete villain, (Which I think is underrated in the Godzilla franchise.) hence I have chosen the GMK incarnation.
Next chapter: The Fall of Beacon Academy.
Leave reviews and tell me what you think and what you like so far.
Until then.
Take care.
