Chapter Two: The Allies
Aubrey Posen is restless for the whole two months should be an understatement, she can't believe she let this happen, can't believe she let everything goes beyond her control, she can't believe she let everything fall apart. Posens take control of every situation and always moves forward even if someone left you behind so why she is so broken when Chloe Beale left LA for the better to never return back? Her dad General Posen has taught all his children how to face every situation, what to do in difficult situations, how not to let anyone to get superior to you, how not to get attached to anyone so why she is here moping around in her room when she has lots of important things to do? The answer she already knows that person who left her wasn't just someone, the person was her everything, her only friend, best friend, partner in crime, her life saver, her supporter, most importantly her idol in many ways.
Being Aubrey Posen is never been easy, her father has set some expectations from her from the day when doctor said he'll be a father soon. So from the beginning General Posen has written her destiny even when he doesn't know the gender of his child, he just assumed it would be a boy who will be just like her father. So when Aubrey comes into the world wailing her father's world shattered down but like a true Posen he stood straight looked at her and quietly left the room. It took 3 days to General Posen to finally carry Aubrey into his arms. He cradled baby Aubrey back and forth When she grabbed her father's finger. Her father just smiled at her and whispered, "Yes just like this you are going to follow my lead." The scene was very lovely to witness but for Aubrey it was a beginning of her difficult life.
Discipline was a constant factor of her life. Her father teaches her everything even if it is not appropriate for a child to learn on this early stages. Aubrey has been taught different languages including sign languages. She was constantly switching various classes such as swimming class, shooting class, self defence class etc. Playing with dolls, with same age kids was never a option for her so she became outcasted by every group of every class. Until she met Chloe. Chloe not only befriended her but also took her under her wings and became her gaurdian angel. Aubrey lost her mother very early just after her younger brothers birth. So after the death of her mother and having a strict father with very childish brother slowly turning into like her father does not help Aubrey's situation but having Chloe by her side listening and supporting her like sister was only thing for Aubrey to carry on and move forward.
Aubrey often gets bullied in her school for knowing more languages, particularly one group who always picks upon her everytime she accidentally spoken another language in class and just because that group was popular all joins into laugh. Then one day Chloe stood up and sits besides Aubrey and called her cool for knowing so many languages. They create their own language on a whim and started speaking that language everytime when that bulley group starts taunting. Eventually bullies got bored of the ignorance and drop the teasing. From the day on Chloe was constant on Aubrey's life they both got a sister they always had wished for, she took Chloe granted hence when Chloe told her to pack her bags and come with her to prove themselves and how they don't need to follow their respective families steps or be one of them that they can do better than this Aubrey felt betrayed, confused and angry. She did what she knows the best she lashes out on Chloe for not sticking up with her family also to not sticking up for her, she called her coward for running away. Sure she does not mean any of them she was just blindsided by sudden situation. All her life she was taught to follow her father's steps and like Chloe's family, General Posen want her daughter to become a successful lawyer. She sometimes envies Chloe for stand up for herself, for always choosing her own decisions, for always following her own paths, for doing something she could never do or think.
After lots of beating around the bush and clearing clogs in her brain and especially now when she is thinking straight Aubrey is embarrassed of her actions, words and behaviour towards the whole situation. She was waiting for hope and change to come into her life and when it finally came she backtracked. She was more guilty for leaving Chloe alone especially when she needs her best friend the most. So she packed everything she needs and left the room and booked the one way ticket to Atlanta. When she reaches to the front door and about to turn the doorknob a sudden voice booms from hall.
"Where do you think you are going? Your classes are later. It's your reading time." General Posen gruffly says.
And for the first time Aubrey didn't flinch she turned to face her father looked directly into his eyes, "You have taught me everything, every language you know is important, every skills which are important to survive, every important life lessons, every possible solutions for crisis but you haven't taught me to respect myself, never taught me to be just me, never spend time with me just to know me, to know what I want from life, from you. I waited for my father to appear so I follow every steps after you, I agree and does everything as you wishes my whole life to see my father even if it would be for a split second. I'm just tired now dad. I'm tired of listening to General Posen's commands, I'm tired of following rules. Now I am leaving with your last saying 'If you couldn't hold it anymore then pack your bags and go hell out of the Kuwait.' Good bye dad and I'm sorry." With that she left the home and created the Havoc inside General Posen's head.
Seeing usually disciplined and respectful Aubrey turned into feircy and intimadating Aubrey was shocking to General Posen. He has faced many dangerous situation, many enemies in his life even they didn't left him speechless. But this, this is not something he has imagined to happen. Witnessing red faced, teary eyed, proudly confident Aubrey somthing tugged at his heart. He just smiles through the pain and whispered, "Fly high my birdie."
Aubrey feels oddly calm and peaceful after landing in Atlanta airport. It feels like hurricane which was present in her head almost her whole life is now disappearing slowly but surely. It is exciting and new to her. She is madly proud of herself, the change she want it has happened and all she want to start her life, she wants to see Chloe and told her everything. She is imaging Chloe's happy screaming in her ears. She just go to her person, just go to home.
Upon arriving on front door and about rehearsing apologies in her head she finally knocks on door. Feeling like eternity but in reality only 3 minutes later Chloe opens the door. After recovering from shock Chloe engulfed Aubrey hard, all the tears which was supposed to be dried previously is now started flowing again and then Aubrey realised she is already forgiven and she is finally home.
