I Don't Mind

Belle glanced around the ballroom where many of their guests were gracing the dance floor as others had lively conversations. The band was playing beautifully and even the waiters were smiling like they were having a grand time. However, the one person she was looking for, she couldn't seem to see.

Excusing herself from the group of ladies she was conversing with, Belle began to make her way around the room towards the exit. As she stepped into the hallway, she glanced down one way to see Adam standing with his head resting against the wall, barely moving.

"Adam?"

He startled as she approached him. "Belle! Hello."

Belle smiled. "Hello. Are you alright?"

Adam nodded. "Yes, yes, I'm fine." He glanced at her face and chuckled a little when he saw the very disbelieving look she was giving him. "I'm a little overwhelmed, I suppose. These balls...I've been almost all alone for so long...I guess I can't easily go back into being around lots of people all the time."

Belle gave him a reassuring smile. "That's understandable. There are a lot of people there."

Adam looked as though he suddenly realised something. "Oh, you're not used to these either! Of course you're not. I'm sorry, my love, I should not have left you in there alone."

Belle smiled. "It's alright. I may just join you when you slip away, so long as you don't mind."

A small smile broke out across Adam's face. "I don't mind." He pulled her into his side, wrapping his arm firmly around her.

Belle couldn't help her smile growing bigger as she rested her head on his chest. It was good to know that when things became too much for both of them, they could take refuge in each other.
