Twins Missing in Dual Worlds Chapter 34: Mushroom amongus us.
Mabel and the gang were having fun around the house. Polly noticed Hop Pop was gathering paint and tools, much be working on that ship, she couldn't recall what it was but that it was somehow important. "Hop Pop working on that tiny boat again."
"Awww it's soooo small!" Mabel said pointing at it.
"AND IT IS FRAGILE, and I do not want any of you to break it. So, I want the three of you to go outside and play like good little kids." He said this because he knew trouble would be coming soon.
"Geee Hop Pop. We aren't that destructive." Mabel said waving her hand, nearly knocking a plant off the window.
"Oh really. What about the Mole dragon you lead to the farm?"
"That was one time." Holding one finger at this.
"And the Amphibian bull worm stampede?" Hop Pop asked.
She laughed. "Classic." Holding up a two sign.
"Of the time you are nearly eaten by Mammals eating bats. I didn't even know those were a thing."
"I admit that one was a little bad." She is holding up three fingers at this point, close to her chest.
"Or the raging horde Turduckuffalo?"
Mabel lost count and tried counting on her fingers again but failed. " Okay, okay, we get it."
"All that was just yesterday, or do I need to go on?" Hop Pop asked.
"Umm, I'm good." Holding up both of her hands in defense.
"That's what I thought, oh what was I talking about? OH right, I want none of you in my room while working on the Green Lady." He said, giving the tiny ship a proper name.
"Got it. Don't go in when you're in." Hop Pop said, pointing at him.
She nodded and saluted, before heading off to do something.
"I love that girl but sometimes she can be such a handful." He Turns around getting his paint ready. Hop Pop was working on the face of the figurehead when he heard a loud crunching sound. "Mabel, what was that?" He asked. Going out of his room to see his human granddaughter.
"Nothing," Mabel tried to stand in front of the now broken dining table. Which was encased in her craft supplies.
"Mabel did it," Polly yelled out.
"That Mabel, right there." Sprig said, pointing at her.
"Frog gone nation, what happened this time?" He asked arms crossed wanting to hear what happened this time.
"I think I found the table's weight limit," Mabel said. Sprig wagged his finger at her for this.
He rubbed his temple, "OF COURSE YOU DID. Okay, guys, we are going to town to get some glue." He said, "Try not to get in trouble on the way to Bessie."
"Store trip!" She threw up her arms.
He held the door open, "Okay, to Bessie. Quickly quickly." He said, he wanted to finish but knew that fixing the table would be too important for him not to do. Mabel rushes out. "Both of you as well." He said, keeping a close eye on Sprig and Polly. He loved them but knew deep down the two of them were troublemakers. He knew he was making the right choice by the looks in their eyes when they were facing his room.
Mabel was trying to climb the shell, "We need to get candy.
"No, no. You have enough energy as is, and too much candy is bad for your teeth." He said he didn't need the lot of them rotting away their teeth. Mabel already had to have her replaced with metal.
The three spoke in unison, "No."
"I see you there Sprig and Polly. THAT GOES FOR YOU AS WELL!" He said, he a little stressed lately with them.
"Oh come onnnnnn." Mabel said.
"Now I want the three of you to stay in Bessie, and don't get in trouble." He said walking into the Loggle store.
"Hop Pop is wound up today," Polly said.
"Here here." Said Sprig.
"Ya. He needs to chill." Mabel said.
"Maybe it's that bottle, maybe if we help him finish he can relax some more." Sprig said. He had been working on it off and on for as long as Sprig could remember. Never able to work on it long.
"That's a great idea." Mabel was a master of art and crafts. She made a puppet rock opera in a few days.
"Who are you and what have you done with my brother?" Polly asked, half joking half serious.
"Hey, I have lots of great ideas!" Patting his chest in response.
"Are you sure?" She asked. They would be at it for a while if Mabel didn't get involved.
"Let him have this one." Getting down to one knee, she may put her hand on Polly's shoulder.
"Boo." She said, the baby doing nothing to hide her distaste for that plan.
"Yeah, Hop Pop has always been so protective of that, not sure why." To him, it was just a boat you could never put in the water, "I mean what is the purpose of a boat that never can touch the water?" He asked, playing with a laser pointer Mabel gave him.
"Decoration I guess." Shrugging her shoulders.
"Mabel, Mabel, you will have an easier time explaining it to a plank of wood." She said, "I am sure he is going to finish it any day now, I mean what are the odds of him doing it forever?" She asked.
"He was working on that steering wheel thing for two weeks," Mabel asked.
"He spent a month on the windows of the thing alone." He said, unaware that the three of them were being watched.
"Hello, children." A mysterious figure said, they could see he was a green frog by the lower half of his face but the rest was covered by a thick robe.
Polly looked at him. Thinking he is sus.
"Hello children, I couldn't help but notice that you were dealing with a cranky octogenarian, who is dealing with a non-aquatic watercraft." The strange man said.
"You talk funny." The youngest boy said.
"Meh, I've heard weirder," Mabel said, tilting her head in memory.
"I am a mere simple traveler going from one place to another. Seeking out problems to solve." He said, hammering home his point hard.
"He's sus," Polly said. Quoting one of those videos Mabel showed her.
"Note to self-limit Polly's phone time." She said, pulling out a notepad from her sweater, writing it down, and putting it back up.
"I just want to offer to elevate the pressure of modern life from your dear Father, uncle, and grandpa. I honestly have no idea what he is to you. " He said, pulling inside his robe to pick up something.
"I think he's offering himself as a hitman?" Polly said.
He stopped what he was doing, "How do you get that from what I just said, what I have here is an elixir made of special spores that should help him with all the built-up stress."
"What exactly is in this Eliezer?" Mabel asked.
"Specialized spores of the Agaricus Bisporus." He said, using words that Mabel didn't understand.
"I am starting to regret letting Maddie destroy the school." Sprig said, starting to feel like he was the stupid one here.
"Well if it's just to relax we could ask Hop Pop if he wants to try it," Mabel said, as the strange man pulled out a strong vile of something, that looked like it had mushroom-shaped shape bubbles.
"I don't know, this seems very likely to end up with us having to deal with a giant bat." Polly knew it always would.
"I wouldn't just give it to him, we have to ask," Mabel said, taking the role of the leader.
"So we are taking it from the strange man?" He asked, getting a bit impatient.
"Not without asking Hop Pop." Mabel would put her foot down at this.
"Well when the time comes, Well, suit yourself. Anyway, I've got just the thing for your troubles. Just rub a little of this on their foreheads and your kids'll be behaving in a jiffy. See, it has these special enzymes." Showing off the purple vile.
"Sounds special. Thank you." Sprig said taking a vile of the unknown substance and then the guy was gone. He shook it a bit, "No nope explosion which means it totally harms less."
The mere sight of it made Mabel nervous, her instincts told her not to trust it.
"You're a worrywart you know that." He said, wanting to help her mood.
"I just had a bad vibe from him, and that thing." Mabel was getting buyer's remorse.
Bessie saw it and tried to take a bite. Sprig keeps it out of reach, "Oh not this Bessie, here is a spare mushroom I found this morning." Handing her some to eat.
Mabel keeps her back, "No girl. I think this might be dumb."
"You're dumb." Sprig said, Polly decided to join.
"What is going on here!?" Hop Pop asked, he finally got some glue and a spare leg in case the clue failed and he came back ten minutes later and his three grandchildren were arguing.
"Sprig is being stupid!" Polly said.
"That doesn't explain why the three of you are fighting… maybe he does." He said, rubbing the bottom of his chin in a way to ponder.
"Sprig got something from a stranger, and I don't like it," Mabel said.
"Potion? You know unless it by a proper magic user, potion ain't nothing but an old scam." He said, giving a little laugh and dismissing his grandson.
"I was worried it was like poison or something."
"It is probably best not to use it. What did you need a potion for anyway?" He asked, helping Mabel onto Bessie's shell.
"Oh, I know a magic user. Maybe we should have Maddie analyze it."
"Sounds good to me Mabel, try not to get out of trouble." He said Hop Pop was quite comfortable with Mabel just being around town now.
Mabel laughed at that.
Now Mabel just needed to find the place she had been before, this shouldn't take too long.
She was so lost.
The town was only barely bigger than a football field. She didn't realize it was right behind her. This was sadly a common occurrence.
She turned around and found it.
"That's convenient."
The place looked odd once she was inside, there were cobwebs and dust all over the place. The stove was off despite being in the middle of the day, some of the stools were on the floor.
There is something afoot.
She could try to see what going on in the kitchen, or she could venture upstairs to the flour bakery.
To the kitchen!
The baker was smiling moving his cooking paddle in and out of the store. Even though there was no fire. "Hello there."
"Are you ok?"Mabel asked.
"I never felt better, how are you doing?" He asked, the irises of his eyes were much larger than normal. No bloodshot, like they were giant googly eyes.
"Are you sick or did you drink some Grunkle juice?"
"I haven't tried anything lately." He said, keeping an unnatural smile on his face.
"Are you absolutely sure?"
He just blinked his eyes before saying, "I am sure." He said, no emotion coming out of his voice.
"Oh wow, Maddie must have messed up a spell."
"Yes, she is so good with her witchy spells." He said as he moved the paddle back and forth in the fireless store. "She is so very good with those spells."
"You should lay down."
"Okay." He said, falling back on the ground. Not a bit weirded out or hurt by the process.
"I need to find Maddie!"
"Maddie upstairs." He said, keeping unblinking eyes and smiling, while the heavy-set frog lay unmoved on the ground.
Mabel ran up the stairs.
Maddie was using a broom to stir the triplet bathwater, with them in it. "We are part of a witchy spell," Ginger said.
"Maddie, what are you doing?"
"I am working on a spell." She said, keeping a smile on her face, and her eyes were glazed as if she was looking at something behind Mabel, as opposed to Mabel herself. "And the three of them wanted to help out."
"What spell?" Please don't be a child sacrifice Mabel thought.
"A magic kind." She said, her voice had no emotions as if she was somehow going on autopilot.
Lavender smiled, "We are ingredients." her tone of voice said, she knew nothing of what she was saying.
"Something smells fishy."
Rosemary just copied the last word that Mabel said, and then the rest of them Maddie included did as well.
Mabel gulped. Yup, something is very wrong.
"Magic is great." She said in a monotone.
"What are those mushrooms?"
"The ones growing out of your head." She said pointing at her hair.
"It is?" She asked, keeping the stirring up but at a faster pace.
"I'm just gonna…" she tries to rip it out.
This got a response out of Maddie who leaps to the side. Mabel wrestled with her.
Maddie kicked her legs at Mabel's mid-section, Mabel roll the last moment avoiding them, and went to overpower her.
The other three tadpoles suddenly jumped her, making inhuman (Infrog in this case) groan as they were moving around.
"Ahh, this is like the time Dipper raised the dead. They're acting like zombies!" Mabel said, where is her karaoke machine when she needs it.
They were tugging on her sweater, trying to knock her on the floor. "Ugh ugh." They said.
Mabel felt bad. But threw them like basketballs.
"Ow, ow." They said, their tone suggested they didn't feel the pain and were only copying what they were supposing.
Mabel stood up on the ground looking for an exit. "I need backup!"
They reach for something glowing in the corner of the room.
Mabel jumped out the window. Using her grappling hook to propel herself.
The flour opened their mouth out wide and proceeded to propel themselves to the ceiling the same way.
Luckily the bathroom was small enough that Mabel could get to the floor with each without hurting herself or them.
Mabel ducked into the halls. Trying to escape the possessed siblings.
"Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, come out to pla ay," Maddie said, the hallway to the second floor wasn't very big, so if Mabel didn't think fast she was doomed.
Mabel tried to take shelter in a closet. Reaching up to flick off the lightbulb. Plunging the room into an unsettling darkness a
The eyes of the four Planters were glowing along with the mushrooms which were hidden by Maddie's thick hair. The glowing was seen under the closest door, it slowly started to fade as if they were looking at the closest.
Mabel held her breath. Hoping not to be heard. She needs to wait for an opening and then bolt.
The purple light under the door started to fade until it was almost gone. This might be a good chance for her to make a break for it or a good way to get caught. Either way, a choice must be made.
Mabel readied herself and as quietly as she could tiptoed over to the door.
She was grabbed by Maddie, she was caught with no way to escape.
The screen fades the black.
(At the Plantars household)
Back at the Planter's household Polly and Sprig are driving hop pop hopping mad by playing ball in the house.
"How many times do I have to tell you two, no ball inside the house? You don't see Mabel making a mess like that."
"Boo. You're boring." Sprig whined.
"I am trying to keep you from breaking anything. I just put that table back together, and frog dang it I do not want to put it back together." Putting his foot down to show his point.
"You worry too much about everything," Polly rolled her eyes.
"And you're getting on my last nerve, if you want to play do it outside already!" He said.
They groaned but went outside. But within a minute the ball flew through the window. Wizzed past his head. And smashed into his bottle boat!
"Ahh." He jumped grabbing it. Furious at this, it was like they were trying to get on his nerves.
"Oops, bad aim!" Sprig called out. Jumping through the window. "I'm gonna get out ball!"
He places it outside his door, "If it goes in my room again, I'm keeping it!" He warns. His patience was at his limit with those kids.
"Ya ya ya," they didn't take him seriously.
He glared, they were a powder keg waiting to go off. How did the kids not see it?
They just saw themselves as having fun.
"Kids, get outside again, and please for the love of frog, stop breaking things." He was on his last nerve
They hopped out his window. Continuing their chaotic game.
"Some days I wonder how I put in with them." He turns to look at a photo, holding it. "That's why." He said. It was a photo of their first trip to the part, Polly was still an egg in a basket tied to Hop Pop's back so he wouldn't lose her. Sprig was off doing something was it a giant poison snake or scorpion he couldn't remember? The first time they had gone out together since...
The kids were playing again. Making so much noise. Sprig was pretending to be fighting Polly.
"The Sun is getting low." Hop Pop said looking out a window, "Okay kids we need to find Mabel."
"Huh? Right, she isn't home yet." Sprig said, just noticing that.
He reaches over to grab himself a lantern. "Come along, she probably got herself caught in glue again." He said making sure they followed him.
Sprig and Polly did start to follow. But noticed something. "Hey isn't the town quiet?"
"Quiet, too quiet." Sprig said.
"That part was applied, bro."
"Ok but seriously where is everybody?" Sprig said.
"Giant attack, no there be fire and yelling at this. Stay close, it might be the orange plague."
"Nah it's a Tuesday," Polly said, jumping as a board fell need her. She gave an awkward laugh, "Let's keep going."
"Polly, this might be serious." He said, looking down at her.
"I'm sure everyone just like. I don't know. Movie?"
"Mabel would have told us if there was a movie night. She is the only one who knows how to make them."
Polly looked around. "I guess so. It's just eerie." The place seems a bit dirtier than normal.
"Let's start with the Flours, Mabel said she was going there, and that is as good a place to start as any other."
"Right. Maybe she and Maddie were practicing magic again?"
"I'll check if she likes me." Sprig said so happy.
"Right," Polly said sarcastically.
He just ignored the feeling and went to the door, and knocked. He happily hums as he hears footsteps, he knocks again to get them to go faster. "They seem to be taking their sweet time."
"Want me to bust down the door?" Polly smacked her fist.
"Polly no, we can't afford to buy them a new one." He said, they had a little money from the potluck, but most of that went to the kids' future education, and the trip very little for that.
Polly then spoke, "Wait did you check to see if the door is locked?"
Hop Pop walked over to the door and open to see it, was not locked. "Oh?"
"Well that's convenient," Sprig walked in.
The door gave out a loud and Erire creaked as they opened it up.
"Woah they need to oil that door," Sprig said to cut the tension.
"Excuse me, Rippitson." He said, getting the owner's attention he hoped. But nobody answered. He claps his hand, "Hello is anyone home?" He asked.
It was quiet. And so dark.
A creak was heard from the floor above. "They must be upstairs. Rippitson, we're coming upstairs!" He said hoping loud enough for them to hear.
Polly bounced after him.
Every single step of the ladder creak, by the time they reach the second floor the stairs creak two dozen times.
Sprig notices this, "Okay, we should help Maddie with some home repairs." Trying to distract from the horror.
Polly heard something, "What is that noise?"
"It seems to be coming from the bathroom…" Hop Pop mused.
"Okay, we have to investigate that loud creepy noise. Well, good luck Sprig, I'm outie." She said trying to hop away.
Hop Pop picks her up mid-hop, "Oh no you don't."
"Ow hop pop. Why are you acting so cray cray?"
"Polly there is no need to offer up Sprig as a frog sacrifice...and I must add the word again." He said, his voice getting more annoyed with each sentence.
There was a small creak in the floorboards.
They went to the door and started to open it up.
The door swung open. And someone tacked Hop Pop.
"Mabel get off of me." He said, trying to push off the girl. Despite being so young Mabel was about the same size as he was.
Mabel grabbed at his hair. Her eyes were glazed over and glowing. Her mouth hung slack and she was even drooling a little strange goo.
He leaps her off of him. "Stop that Mabel, you are acting weirder than normal." He said, worrying that this was just a human thing she failed to tell him. "Wait Mabel, your eyes, they are glowing."
He made a strange sound and kept shuffling after him.
"That's enough Mabel." She said, Sprig took the opportunity to wrap his tongue around her midsection, and yanked her away from him. "Mabel whatever going on stop it, stop it now."
Mabel didn't respond. She just kept shuffling towards him. And to make matters worse the flour family was now behind her approaching them.
"Nope." He said slamming the door in the Floor place, leaving them with Mabel. "Mabel stay there." He said.
Mabel's fist went through the door and climbed out of the door. The other went downstairs and managed to hide from her.
"We have to follow her before she gets downstairs." He said trying to see which room she was in, "We can't have her get in trouble."
"But what is happening?" Polly bounced up and down in frustration.
"I do not know, Sprig stay close, we do not want them to separate the three of us." He said.
Sprig stopped because he had been about to wander off.
"Is it that hard to believe I know what I am talking about kids?"
"Well, I mean. You are old," Speig said.
"I prefer the term experience." He said, using super glue on the door Mabel went in so she wouldn't be escaping anything soon. He grabbed his grandson and granddaughter leaping to the ground. "Ow, that hurt my ankles."
"Ha! Old!"
"Polly now is not the time." He rush out of the door, only to see the entire town had glowing eyes, and something Hop Pop didn't notice with Mabel but they could see they had glowing mushrooms growing out of them.
Before they could turn around the flour family was blocking them.
"Okay Rippitson, you don't want to do this, and I don't want to do...this." He said, giving a punch to the bigger frog in the face.
They didn't even react.
"Okay, that's not how I expected it to happen." He said, leaping back at this.
"Well well well. An old man and two brats are all that's left of this town.l
"Show yourself, you coward." He said, knowing that calling them out might be the only thing they can do.
"I'm right here. I'm everywhere."
"Do you have any idea how little that explains yourself?" He asked.
"You're a farmer. Ask yourself. What's something interconnected."
"Oh my goodness, Mabel warn us of you...your Spiderman." Hop Pop said.
"Can I have your autograph, Mister Man?"
"No, you idiots! I'm the glowing mushrooms!" He said, taking off his hood and showing off the giant glowing mushroom.
"Say Whaaat?!" He asked, as the other frog removed his hood showing off a giant mushroom.
"Don't worry, I won't let his name get you."
"What his...Do you honestly don't know my name?" The mushroom glowed as he spoke.
"What is your name?" Polly asked.
"You may call my apothecary Gary!" The parasite cult leader said, clearly annoyed.
"I would rather call you later." He said, "Let's book it." He said.
The town was surrounding them."
Polly grabbed a nearby board, "Let me at them "
"Oh yes. Get closed. Good idea." Gary taunt.
She happily hit the nearest zombie frog, she made a path. "We need to get home, hold down at the house."
"But what about Mabel!" Sprig exclaimed. "And Ivy! And everyone!"
"We can see if we got anything on how to deal with mushrooms like this." He didn't want to abandon her, but from the situation, she wouldn't be physically harmed, so they had time.
Sprig hesitated. But ultimately followed.
He looked back but didn't get a chance to spend time long. He went home, "Quick look for any books about mushrooms."
Polly ran around screaming.
He grabbed her and held her mouth. "Polly they can hear your screams, they are drawn to your fears." That was his response to all problems, it was always right.
"Give her a break we're panicking. What if we can't save everyone? What if this is permanent?" Sprig was horrified by all of this.
"This is why we need to hurry and find something that works, panicking will only make things worse for everyone."
Sprig looked at them. "Hey, guys. I just noticed something weird."
"When Sprig?" He asked.
"That weird potion that guy gave us is the same glowing color of those mushrooms. Which I now know is that Garry guy."
"Wait what potion?" He asked, unaware of this.
"Oh ummmm…" Sprig brought it out. "Here." He then explained what happened at the store
"Kids that's a horrible idea." He said, "Did anything else happen?"
"Well, Mabel didn't seem to trust the idea."
"That good, anything else?" He asked, wanting to help find a weakness.
"Err I guess Bessie kept wanting to eat the potion," Polly said.
He snapped his fingers and pointed at Polly, "Okay, that is an idea I can work with." He said he heard a knocking. "Must be the zombies, quick through my room."
The kids rushed into the room.
He threw a book upstairs, "I doubt they will fall for that." He said. He grabbed the Green Lady, "Might as well keep it safe." He said, keeping the tiny ship under his arm.
"Hop pop what's the plan?" Polly asked.
"We just need to get to Bessie." He said, "And hurry." He said, seeing a purple light appear behind them. "Double speed gang." He said, picking Polly up due to not having any legs.
Polly moved her fists around like she could scare off the fungus
He rushes over to get to Bessie's stable, "Come on kids we're almost to safety." Unfortunately, some of the sports teams got infected and ran to try to get them. "We're almost there!"
Bessie was sleeping in her stable.
"Bessie there you are girl." Hop Pop said.
The snail slivered over and tried to eat the potion in Sprig's hand.
"Good girl Bessie." He said as the zombies got in the barn. "Now eat those other mushrooms.
"Bessie things are getting messy," Polly yelled out, the snail rushed out of the pin at this.
Bessie started eating the mushrooms right off of the villagers.
"No, my Mushrooms." He said, "Get her." The leader said pointing at Bessie.
Hop Pop grabbed him, "Oh no you don't." Grabbing Garry by the shoulders.
"Go hop pop!" Sprig cheered.
Gary's head mushroom was being led towards Bessie, "Have mercy, I beg of you. I'm the last of my kind. Destroying me would wipe us off the planet forever." He begged for his life.
Hop Pop after a second or two, "I can live with that." He said, pushing him towards Bessie, eating the fungus bit.
Bessie ripped off the mushroom and went munch munch.
"Brutal Hop Pop, I know have a taste for blood."
"Why are you looking at me when you say that?" Sprig said.
"Don't worry about it," Polly grinned menacingly.
"Okay, Bessie to find Mabel." He worries some might have run off.
Mabel was still quite a ways away. Still possessed.
"Let go find her." He said.
They threw open the doors to the barn and smacked her into a pile of hay.
"Sorry Mabel, Bessie Mabel has some mushrooms for you."
Mabel in her zombie-like state was no match for the hungry snail.
Mabel fell to the ground, Sprig leaps towards her first, "Mabel are you okay, how many fingers am I holding up?" He asked, holding up a fist.
"Broccoli," she said dazzling before shaking her head. "Urg. What happened?"
"Well, evil mushrooms try to use your body as a host and nearly attack the family."
"Well hot cheese." Mabel still speaking nonsense.
"Let's go home before something tries to eat you." Hop Pop said.
"Ya. I'm ready for bed."
The three help her to Sprig and her bedroom.

Thanks, I never like when stories just have the chapter be like chapter 1, or 2 find at first but after a while it makes it hard to find what you looking for.
Yes, yes Speedy is.
I agree hope to do more with Maddie in the future.
I don't like keeping the story at a slow pace.
I just love the characters interaction.
If she is smart she won't.
