* Chapter 10 *
Two weeks passed since Naruto bought the U.S.S – Artemis many small problems were found throughout the ship, many were due to lack of maintenance, but easily fixed.
The Enterprise-E engineer crew used some spare time to use the old vessel as a relaxing trip to a museum, or simply enjoy an old and simple maintenance of fix issue.
The young crew of the Artemis-now-Konoha were busy with their studies and training at Starfleet academy, but at the end of every day, they would either beam up or use a shuttle to get back to the Konoha, to relax, refresh, eat and sleep. On the weekend they would stay on the ship to work alongside the Enterprise crew. They learned the intricacies of starship engineering and basic maintenance, and the joy of bringing an old ship back to life.
the Golanian Serendibite alloy that was discovered by Naruto and his friends, when they were stranded in the past of the Planet Golana, have been proved to be an asset to reinforce and replace some of the Konoha structure, making her not just faster but also more durable.
Naruto, with a spark of inspiration in his eyes, approached LaForge, who was elbow-deep in the ship's ancient circuitry. "Hey, George," he called out, his voice echoing through the dimly lit engineering bay.
LaForge pulled his head out from the console and turned to face him, his visor retracting. "Naruto, what can I do for you?" He asked, his tone a mix of curiosity and concentration.
"I got an idea that I want to run by you, since I'm no engineer, but for what I do know is that the nasceles are a bunch of coils that emit the warp field correct?"
LaForge nodded, a hint of amusement in his eyes at the young man's enthusiasm. "That's correct, the warp coils are essential for the ship's faster-than-light travel capabilities. What's on your mind, Naruto?"
"What if we replace the old 23rd century coils by Golanian Serendibite made coils? as you know the Golanian Serendibite is an excellent energy conductor, and every magnetic coil is made of energy conductors." Naruto told his idea to George LaForge, his voice filled with excitement.
LaForge stroked his chin thoughtfully, considering the proposal. "That's an intriguing thought, Naruto. It could potentially improve the ship's performance and stability in warp. However, it's a significant modification and one that would need to be tested thoroughly before implementation."
"How about modifying a small warp capable probe with a prototype of my suggestion, we test it within the sol system were there are thousands of sensors around to monitor it?" Naruto suggest
LaForge nodded thoughtfully. "That's a good idea. It'll allow us to test the material under warp conditions without risking the ship. We'll need to get the specifications for the existing coils and then design a new set with the Serendibite. It'll be a challenge, but if it works, it could be a significant advancement for Starfleet."
The team set to work, with LaForge guiding the young cadets through the complex process of engineering. They dismantled a decommissioned probe, replacing its standard coils with the new Serendibite ones. The metal, which gleamed with an almost ethereal quality, was surprisingly easy to work with, melding to the probe's structure as if it were a second skin. The entire engineering bay buzzed with excitement as they watched the transformation take place before their eyes.
A single shuttle Type 8 shuttle was at ready just outside of the Konoha, ready to follow and analyze the probe's performance. With a nod from LaForge, the probe shot off into space with a glow that was more vivid than any of the standard warp signatures they had ever seen. It streaked away from the ship, the warp signature leaving behind a trail of shimmering light, like a cosmic brushstroke across the black canvas of space.
Abord the type 8 shuttle Kanami warped in after the probe, her eyes glued to the sensors and readings. "It's holding, George," she called back to LaForge, her voice tight with excitement. "The signature's stable!"
Back in the shuttle bay, the crew watched as the probe's trail grew distant, the new warp signature leaving a shimmering arc across the stars. "Looks like we've got ourselves a winner," Riker said, a smile playing on his lips.
"Lieutenant start recording the warp performance data!" LaForge barked out as he watched the probe's trajectory on the shuttle's viewscreen. The shuttle's instruments beeped and whirred as they recorded the unprecedented warp speed.
The probe, now a beacon of innovation, soared through space, its new coils humming with power. The readings coming back to the shuttle showed that not only had the probe achieved warp 3.2, but it was doing so with remarkable stability. The crew looked at each other, their eyes wide with amazement. This was a breakthrough that could revolutionize Starfleet's understanding of warp technology.
"Wow! it literally doubled the probe's speed" Riker said with astonishment as he looked at the readings from the shuttle's console, "This is incredible, the Golanian Serendibite is really something else."
"Agreed," Picard added, his gaze still on the retreating arc of light that marked the probe's warp trail. "But as fascinating as this is, we must remember that we need to conduct more thorough tests before we can even consider installing these coils on the Konoha or any other manned vessel for that matter."
Sakura nodded solemnly, her mind racing with the implications of their discovery. "We can't risk lives without being absolutely certain of the safety and reliability of these upgrades," she said, her voice steady despite the thrill of their achievement.
The following days were a whirlwind of activity as LaForge and Kanami meticulously studied the data collected from the probe's successful test flight. They worked tirelessly in the Enterprise-E's state-of-the-art engineering labs, cross-referencing the readings with historical records and running simulations to understand the full potential of the Golanian Serendibite coils. The results were promising, showing not only increased speed but also greater fuel efficiency and stability.
"we sure do have a lot of potential with this alloy, but if Iwere to rate it with our top of the line materials, I'd put it in third or fourth place, depending on the application. But to a mainly civilian vessel, it's easily first place with a few exceptions were it would be second best." George said, his voice filled with excitement as he studied the data on the PADD.
Sakura nodded, understanding the limitations of their newfound material. "But if we can make a difference with it, even a small one, it's worth it." she said, her eyes glowing with determination.
"It's a good alloy for the ship internal structure, as it is quite resilient, and it does conduct energy nicely with low level electric resistance. It will be employed largely on the Fleet and on the civilian vessels." Riker said, stroking his chin in thought.
"How about using the Konoha as a Prototype for stressful situation, and with Picard permission some secondary or tertiary systems could be upgraded with the Golanian Serendibite alloy." Naruto suggested, eager to push the boundaries of their discovery.
Picard considered the proposal, his eyes narrowing slightly as he weighed the potential benefits against the risks. After a moment of contemplation, he nodded. "Alright, let's proceed with caution. We'll begin by replacing the tertiary systems only, starting with the deflector dish and the inertial dampeners. If the results are favorable and the integrity of the ship remains uncompromised, we'll consider expanding to secondary systems." His decision was met with a mix of excitement and relief from the young cadets and the Starfleet officers.
Weeks went by in a blink of an eye, as the young ones dedicated to their school and Starfleet training, as well as Ninja and Ninshu training from Naruto's parents and Kurama. They did spent ten years doing the ninja and ninshu training while living in the past, so some habits are die hard ones.
The upgrades on the Konoha had come nicely, and it was deem worth to flew at a cruise speed of warp 5 and in emergencies it could go to warp 9.87 The young cadets were eager to test the ship under more extreme conditions.
One day of the invitation arrived in the Konoha communication and message system, a file with the Starfleet emblem and the words "Enterprise-E Launch Ceremony" emblazoned in it. It was delivered to the Konoha by Kanami herself as she was designated for service aboard the Enterprise-E. The teen's eyes lit up with excitement at the sight of it, their hearts racing with anticipation.
"Guys, we've got an invitation to the Enterprise-E launch!" Ino exclaimed, holding up the PADD with the invitation displayed on the screen. The others gathered around her, their eyes scanning the message.
Naruto's gaze shifted to the com-terminal. "Alright, let's not waste any time. I'm calling Kanami." He sat down in the chair and initiated the communication. The screen flickered to life, revealing Kanami's smiling face and the engineering room behind her.
"Hey, what's up, Naruto?" she asked, wiping a smear of grease from her forehead. Her eyes danced with excitement at the prospect of what could be coming next.
"We received your invitation sis, do you want us to cruise alongside the Enterprise on it's first trip?" Naruto asked, his voice filled with excitement and hope.
Kanami's smile grew wider, her eyes sparkling with pride. "I was hoping you'd say that. We could use your unique skills for the shakedown cruise. Plus, it's not every day we get to see history being made."
"Okay then, if Captain Picard doesn't mind I would like to suggest a course to Golana. As a destination for the shake down trip" Naruto told his sister, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's a great opportunity for us to test out the ship's new systems and pay our respects to the planet that was our home for so long."
"Excellent idea, I'll run it by Captain Picard and the rest of the senior staff," Kanami said, nodding her head in agreement. "But remember, we're talking about the newest, most advanced starship in the fleet. We need to make sure that the USS Konoha can keep up."
"How about a friendly race then, Captain Riker will beam over and temporally assume command of the Konoha with a few officers to complement us as a skeleton crew, that way we can gauge the Konoha performance, and if everything runs smoothly we'll be sure that this ship can be of service yet to Starfleet." Naruto proposed with a grin, his competitive spirit showing through.
LaForge, who had been quietly working on a console nearby, couldn't help but overhear the small chat. He chuckled to himself, knowing that the young cadets had the passion and drive that could lead to great things. He decided to join in, his curiosity piqued. "Race you say?" He said as he walked over to the group, wiping his hands on a cloth. "Well, I've got to admit, that would be quite the test for both ships. But we need to make sure that everything is in order first. We don't want any surprises during the shakedown."
"About that, what should we do if we run into trouble? the Konoha has phasers only as weapons, since we didn't got authorization to carry a few photon torpedoes." Shikamarui quiped, his mind already racing through scenarios.
Kanami's smile didn't falter. "Don't worry, I've got a feeling we won't need them. But just in case, the Enterprise will be right there." she reassured him, her confidence in the new ship's capabilities evident.
"Well I will loan two torpedoes as a precaution, but as soon as we got to Golana you'll hand them back okay?" George LaForge said with a wink, "Just remember that the Enterprise-E will be watching you, so no funny business."
That evening Kanami beamed aboard the Konoha, to be with her brother, "Thank you, Kanami," Naruto said, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. He knew this meant she would be leaving them soon, venturing into the vast expanse of space.
Kanami placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You'll be okay, Naruto. Remember, we're all in this together, even when we're apart," she assured him, her eyes reflecting the warmth of her words.
The day of the shakedown cruise arrived, and the USS Enterprise-E and the USS Konoha lined up side by side in Earth's orbit. The air was charged with anticipation, as the crews of both vessels prepared for the historic journey. Captain Picard and his senior staff, including Data and Worf, were present on the Enterprise-E's bridge, while Riker, along with a handpicked team of engineers, beamed over to the USS Konoha to oversee the smaller ship's performance.
Kanami is overjoyed to be on the Konoha with her little brother, as she went through the startup sequence of the Konoha newly Mark V - Experimental Warp Core. She knew that this mission was going to be an epic one, not just because it was the first time the Enterprise-E would be leaving spacedock, but because her brother and his friends were going to be a part of it.
The Enterprise-E's engines hummed to life, the powerful warp core thrumming beneath the deck plates, as Captain Picard announced over the intercom, "All hands, this is the captain. Prepare for departure. Engage at my mark."
On the USS Konoha, Riker took a deep breath and turned to the young cadets. "Alright, you've got the helm. Let's show them what this ship can do," he said, his voice steady despite the excitement in his eyes.
Kiba, the newly appointed pilot, gripped the controls with surprising confidence for his young age. His eyes darted over the instruments, his mind racing through the training he'd received. The moment Riker nodded, he punched in the coordinates and engaged the impulse engines, the ship gliding smoothly away from Earth's gravitational pull.
Choji, as the navigator, studied the star charts with a focus that belied his usual laid-back demeanor. His knowledge of the stars and space was as vast as his appetite, and he was eager to prove himself as they ventured into the unknown. He called out the course corrections to Kiba, their synergy already palpable as they worked in tandem.
Jack, the weapons officer, sat at his station, his fingers hovering over the controls with a readiness that spoke of his MACO training. His eyes darted to the display, watching the two torpedoes they had been granted for the mission, a silent promise of protection for their unarmed vessel.
Molly, in the communications chair, checked the frequencies with a calm efficiency that belied the racing thoughts in her mind. She knew the importance of her role, maintaining an open line between the two starships and ensuring that their messages reached their intended recipients without interference.
"All systems are green," she reported, her voice clear and steady. "We're ready to engage warp on your mark, Captain Riker."
Riker nodded, a proud smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he watched the young cadets take their positions. "Make it so," he said, echoing a familiar command. With that, Kiba engaged the warp drive, and the USS Konoha leaped into the stars, a sleek, untested vessel ready to make its mark alongside the mighty Enterprise-E.
"After them Mr. Data, engage!" Picard's voice echoed through the bridge of the Enterprise-E, and the starship surged forward, the space around it warping as it slipped into warp.
Kiba's eyes were glued to the stars ahead as he watched the Enterprise-E streak away, setting the pace for their journey to Golana. His hands danced over the controls with the grace of a master pianist, the USS Konoha responding to his every touch as if it were an extension of himself. The young pilot's heart raced as he felt the power of the ship beneath him, the vibrations of the experimental engine resonating in his very bones.
"Riker to Picard, we're going to try warp nine in sixty seconds." Riker's voice crackled over the intercom, the anticipation in his voice clear.
"Understood," Picard replied, his gaze on the USS Konoha's trajectory.
Kiba's knuckles tightened slightly on the helm as he counted down the seconds. "Warp nine in five, four, three, two, one... now!" he exclaimed, and the ship's engines responded with a roar that resonated through the hull. The stars outside stretched into streaks of light, and the young pilot couldn't help but let out a whoop of excitement.
"Warp 9.1... 9.5...9.78... we're at maximum!" Kiba announced, his voice filled with exhilaration as the USS Konoha pushed the boundaries of its new systems. The ship held steady, a testament to the ingenious blend of Golanian and Starfleet technology.
"Keep cool Kiba, because while it's truly a remarkable feat, the Enterprise is faster, as it can go to warp 9.99." Naruto reminded him calmly from his position as the Executive Officer. Despite the thrill of the moment, the young cadets remained focused on their tasks, aware of the responsibilities they bore as the representatives of two worlds coming together in harmony.
Choji, as the navigator, monitored the ship's trajectory with precision. His eyes darted back and forth between the star charts and the viewscreen, making subtle adjustments to their course as needed. The thrill of exploration filled his chest as he guided the USS Konoha through the cosmic dance of the stars.
But as they dropped out of warp, the excitement on the bridge was immediately replaced by tension as the ship's sensors alerted them to the presence of two Borg capsules like ships and a Borg sphere looming ominously in their path. "Borg vessels detected," Choji announced, his voice tight with concern.
"Red alert! Shields up!" Riker barked, his eyes darting to the tactical display as the Borg vessels grew larger on the viewscreen.
"Sir message from the Enterprise, it is Captain Picard" Molly said urgently, her voice cutting through the tension on the bridge.
Riker nodded, his eyes never leaving the Borg vessels ahead. "On screen," he ordered.
"Number one you and the Konoha will deal with the smaller ships, while the Enterprise will deal with the Borg sphere." Picard's voice was calm yet firm, the gravity of the situation not lost on anyone.
"Understood, Captain," Riker replied, his hand moving to the intercom. "Cadets, this is it. We're going to split our forces. Take out those capsules with everything you've got. Kiba get ready for evasive maneuvers, Jack get those torpedoes ready, but be sure of your fire, you will get only one shot for each of those capsule like ships."
The young cadets nodded, their expressions a mix of fear and determination. They had trained for this moment, but facing the Borg was something entirely different from the simulations they had run.
"Naruto if you have any suggestions speak freely now, you have half a minute before we are in range." Riker said as he saw a deep thought look on Naruto's face.
Naruto took a deep breath and stood up. "Captain, what if we could use the same holographic technology of the EMH to create solid light copies of the USS Konoha? We can deploy them as decoys and confuse the Borg, giving us an advantage in combat." His eyes were alight with a mix of excitement and hope.
Riker raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the unorthodox proposal. "Interesting idea, but we don't have that capability on this ship," he replied, his mind racing with the implications of such a tactic.
"Actualyy we do have one EMH - Emergency Medic Hologram unit aboard, it was scheduled to be installed the day after tomorrow." Sakura quipped in, her eyes bright with the idea. "If we can reprogram it to emit a projection of the ship instead of medical information, it could serve as a temporary decoy."
Riker's interest piqued, "How quickly can we reprogram it?"
"Kiba make the Konoha dance erratically around those ships for two minutes, Jack wait for my signal, I'm going get the probe ready" Naruto said as he dashed out of the bridge, leaving a bewailing Riker to blink and look at were he stood
Naruto decided now was a good time to use the technique that his parents gave him, made a cross sign with his fingers and muttered in the turbolift "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu"
Three identical copies of himself popped into existence beside him, each one a perfect copy of the young ninja. The clones looked around, their eyes wide with the excitement of a new adventure.
"Two of you go get the probe ready, the other one with me, we're going to get and reprogram the emitter." Naruto instructed his clones with the swiftness of a seasoned commander, his thoughts racing through the possibilities. The clones nodded in unison, and two of them waited into the lift to go to Deck 3, while Naruto and the other clone left the lift on Deck 2.
They sprinted through the corridors, the sound of their footsteps echoing off the metal walls. As they approached the cargo bay, the clone took the lead, moving with a fluid grace. Within moments, the real Naruto and the third clone were inside of the cargo bay and opened the crate containing the EMH device, the air thick with anticipation.
"Re adjust the system setting for a more power usage, and place a shield emitter to work with it while I reconfigure the software." Naruto said to the clone as he dived into the EMH unit's interface. His nimble fingers danced across the console, bypassing safety protocols with ease. The clone nodded, and with a swift hand gesture, it began to manipulate the unit's power distribution systems, adding five more power cells and a shield generator and the holographic emitters.
"Ok done, lets grab it and race to the torpedo bay." Naruto said to his shadow clone, the reprogrammed EMH unit in hand. The two of them sprinted back to the turbolift, their hearts racing with the thrill of the upcoming battle. The other two clones had already prepared the probe in the torpedo bay, the lights flickering as they made the final adjustments.
The ship started to shook and tremble as the Borg capsules locked their weapons, Kiba's hands flew over the helm, his instincts honed by years of ninja training allowing him to perform evasive maneuvers that would make even the most seasoned pilots sweat. The Borg's weapons fire streaked by, narrowly missing the USS Konoha.
"Everyone hold onto something, I'm going to do some rough Maneuvers" Kiba yelled over the intercom, the sound of the Borg's energy weapons discharging growing louder with each passing second.
Naruto used chakra to his feet to keep his balance and footing as the ship continued to shake. He and his shadow clone reached the torpedoe bay and found the other two clones had already done the necessary modifications to the probe. They quickly wento to work and attached the holographic emitter and powered it up. Naruto had set it on the launcher and activated his com-badge "Jack the probe is ready and loaded, fire when the captain say it."
Jack nodded, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched the Borg vessels close in on them. The Enterprise was busy with the Borg sphere, their phasers firing in a spectacular display of power and skill, but the two Borg capsules remained focused on the USS Konoha.
"Hope this works, do it Jack" Riker's voice said to the young cadet on the weapons and tactical console, his eyes never leaving the Borg capsules that were closing in fast.
Jack took a deep breath and fired the probe as soon as the captain's order was given. The small object shot out of the torpedo tube and hurtled towards the Borg capsules, its trajectory unpredictable. As it neared the enemy ships, the probe emitted a burst of energy, and three exact replicas of the USS Konoha materialized around it, each one a solid light construct that looked as real as the ship itself.
The Borg capsules paused, their sensors overwhelmed by the sudden multiplication of their target. The cadets watched with bated breath as the Borg fired their first salvo, the phasers striking one of the decoys. It exploded in a flash of light, the energy dissipating harmlessly as the other three replicas zipped around, their movements erratic and unpredictable.
"Fire at will Jack!" Riker's voice boomed over the intercom, and Jack's hands moved with lightning speed, targeting the Borg capsules with the modified phasers. The USS Konoha's phasers let out a series of rapid pulses, their frequencies shifting and morphing as they shot out towards the Borg vessels.
The replicas also shoot the Borg with their phasers, each shot a different frequency, as programmed by the clever Naruto. The Borg vessels, caught off-guard by the sudden assault, try to adapt their shields to the new frequencies, but the holographic decoys are as fast as them. They dodge and weave through the Borg's defenses, their phasers firing in a symphony of light and energy that leaves the Borg struggling to keep up. The real USS Konoha, under Kiba's expert control, darts in and out of the fray, firing torpedoes at the Borg capsules whenever they get too close.
Jack keep an eye on the readings of the sensosors, and as soon as he saw the shields of one vessel wink out he fired a torpedo at it, watching with a grim satisfaction as it struck home.
*BOOM!*
The Borg capsule erupted in a fiery explosion, the shockwave rocking the USS Konoha. The bridge crew cheered as one of the Borg vessel was no more, a brilliant flash of light marking its end. The other Borg capsule attempted to ram into the Konoha, Kiba activate the side strusters, but the port warp nascele was hit. The ship wobbled and the lights flickered.
"Damage report!" Riker's voice was calm, but the tension on the bridge was palpable as the Borg capsule's wreckage dissipated.
"We lost the port side warp nascele, safety protocols engaged warp core offline." The voice of the temporary Chief Engineer, Kanami, was urgent over the intercom.
"Dammit! Jack finish the bastard off!" Riker's voice was filled with a mix of urgency and anger as the Borg capsule's debris scattered.
Jack, his hands steady, locked onto the last Borg capsule. It had sustained significant damage from the previous engagements, its once sleek and menacing form now marred with scorch marks and hull breaches. He took a deep breath, focusing all his training and determination into the task at hand. His thumb hovered over the firing button, the weight of the decision pressing down on him like a planet's gravity.
BOOM! *
As the last capsule ship went up in a ball of plasma, Riker used the opportunity to do an all ship call "All hands report in, get whoever got hurt to the sick bay, damage control personnel start accessing the situation, and fix what you can."
Jack's hands hovered over the console, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched the Borg sphere on the viewscreen. It had noticed the destruction of its escorts and had turned its attention to the USS Konoha. "We've got to get out of here," he murmured, his voice tight.
"Easy cadet, we can still hold our own, and there is still the Enterprise out there to give a hand. Bridge to engineering, all power to the shields." Riker's voice was calm and firm, his gaze unwavering as the Borg sphere grew larger on the viewscreen.
In engineering, Kanami and her team raced to reroute power to the compromised systems. Despite her youth, her command was clear and authoritative, the crew responding with the precision of a well-oiled machine. The lights on the bridge dimmed momentarily before flickering back to full brightness.
"Sis, I'm connecting the shuttles power generators to the secondary and tertiary redundant power grids, it should give us a momentary juice to keep the shields and phasers" Naruto voice was heard on the engineering intercom, his other clones had already deployed to help repair the damaged parts of the ship.
"God bless you little brother." Kanami muttered, her eyes never leaving the console as she worked the manual override. The ship's systems responded with a low hum, and the shields flared back to life just as the Borg sphere fired. The energy bolts slammed into the USS Konoha, the ship jolting from the impact.
The Golanian Serendibite, the heart of their shields, glowed a brilliant blue, absorbing the brunt of the Borg's fire. It was a sight to behold, the crystal pulsating with each hit, the shields holding firm against the relentless onslaught. The cadets watched in amazement as their ship withstood the attack, the unique material living up to its promise.
Kanami, her brow furrowed in concentration, had an idea. "Invert the polarity of the tertiary shield system!" she yelled to her engineering team. The crew looked at her with confusion, but her tone brooked no argument. They quickly carried out her order, and the ship's systems whirred to life as the polarity reversed.
The Borg sphere's relentless energy beams continued to hammer the USS Konoha's shields, but now, instead of depleting them, the power was being absorbed and channeled back into the ship's systems. The shields grew stronger with each hit, the energy coursing through the Serendibite like lifeblood. The cadets watched as the ship's power levels began to rise, the Borg's own fire being turned against them.
"Cadet Picard, use the excess energy to overload the phaser emitter and fire it back!" Riker ordered Jack, his gaze fixed on the Borg sphere as it approached, its weapon ports charging for another volley.
Jack nodded, his fingers flying over the console as he complied. The power levels on the phaser banks began to spike, the energy from the Borg's own weapons being redirected back at them. The USS Konoha's shields glowed a vibrant blue, the Serendibite crystal in the engineering bay pulsing in rhythm with the incoming fire.
"Fire!" Riker bellowed, his voice filled with a mix of hope and desperation. The phaser beams shot out from the ship, a brilliant arc of white-hot energy that seemed to stretch on forever. It connected with the Borg sphere, the beams wrapping around the enemy ship like a luminous snake.
The Borg sphere's shields flickered, straining under the unexpected onslaught. The cadets held their breath as they watched the power levels on the USS Konoha's console spike, the energy from the Borg's own attack being channeled back at them. The Borg's shields began to waver, and with a final, desperate burst, the phaser beams overloaded and punched through.
"We've got a breach in the Borg sphere's shields!" Jack exclaimed, his voice a mix of excitement and disbelief.
"Rike to Captain Picard, care to do the honors?" Riker's voice was tight with anticipation as the Borg sphere's shields wavered.
"With pleasure numer one! Mr. Worf fire our quantum torpedoes at that sphere." Picard said to Mr. Worf on the Enterprise bridge. The Borg sphere was now vulnerable and the cadets watched in awe as the Enterprise fired three white-blueish torpedoes were launched and streaked across space, their warheads glowing a brilliant.
* Boom! *
Both crews erupted in cheers as the Borg sphere's was reduced to stardust by the quantum torpedoes, the explosion lighting up the surrounding space like a newborn star. The Enterprise-E's shields absorbed the shockwave with a gentle shudder, a testament to its robust design and the quick reflexes of its pilots.
"Enterprise to the Konoha, how bad is your damage?" Picard called out, his voice a mix of relief and concern.
"We've lost the port side warp nascele and we've got a few burned out relays, but otherwise, we're in good shape, Captain," Riker reported, his voice a mix of pride and relief as he surveyed the damage reports on the console.
"I'm getting reports of just a few bumps and one concussion from the sickbay" Sakura reported, her voice calm and professional. Despite the damage, the young cadets had proven their mettle, and the ship was remarkably intact.
"Bridge to engineering , Lieutenant Uzumaki how long until you can at least get impulse power back?" Riker asked over the intercom, his voice firm despite the situation.
"We're working on it Captain," Kanami responded, her voice tight with the urgency of the situation. "The plasma exhaust port took a hit and it's going to need some serious patch work before we can safely reactivate the impulse drive. The warp drive will remain inactive until we can rebuild the warp nascele".
Riker nodded, understanding the gravity of their situation. "Acknowledged, Enterprise-E. We're adrift but stable. We'll need to stay on alert for any other Borg vessels." He turned to the young cadets, their faces a mix of excitement and concern. "Good work out there everyone, now let's focus on getting this ship back to fighting form."
"Captain I got an Idea." Naruto said as he got back into the bridge from the docking bay, his eyes shining with excitement.
"I'm listening, cadet." Riker replied, his gaze still on the space where the Borg sphere had once been.
"We use the shuttle pods aboard to move the Konoha into standard orbit, and with them acting as corrective trusters, we can keep orbiting the Golana's planet, and use the facilities on the planet to create another pair of warp nasceles using the Golanian Serendibite as primary material, and while we're at it, the planet can suply the needed materials and components for the repairs." Naruto proposed, his eyes alight with excitement at the thought of their next move.
Riker raised an eyebrow at the young cadet's ingenuity. "That's an excellent idea, Mr. Uzumaki. It seems we're going to have to put those shuttles to good use. Lieutenant Kanami Uzumaki, any thoughts?"
Kanami nodded, her eyes scanning the engineering data. "It's risky, but if we can calibrate the shuttles' thrusters to match the ship's inertial dampeners, we might be able to maintain a stable orbit. It'll be a delicate balance, but I think we can pull it off. But it might womble once in a while" she said with a hint of a smile.
"That's fine lieutenant, get a few volunteers to rotate in the shuttle operation, and proceed with the plan. Cadet Uzumaki and Yamanaka beam down to the surface once we're in orbit and procure the needed materials and components. " Riker nodded firmly.
"Konoha to the Enterprise, we're about to use our shuttles to help assuming standard orbit, can you get parallel with us and help with the repairs?" Riker called out to Picard, his gaze still on the damaged ship's systems.
"Understood, Riker. We'll be right alongside you," Picard's voice responded over the comm, his tone a blend of relief and admiration for their innovative thinking. The Enterprise-E gracefully maneuvered beside the USS Konoha, its powerful tractor beams reaching out to stabilize the smaller ship as the shuttle pods detached and began their delicate dance around the Ranger-class vessel. The cadets watched in amazement as their idea came to fruition, the shuttles firing their thrusters in a precise ballet that allowed the damaged ship to maintain a steady orbit.
Moments later, the transporter room hummed to life, and Geordi LaForge, his newly cybernetic eyes glowing a soft blue, materialized alongside a team of his most skilled engineers. He looked around at the young faces and the makeshift setup with a raised eyebrow, but the nod he gave Riker was one of respect for their ingenuity. The team immediately set to work, assessing the damage and organizing the necessary repairs.
"Cadet Uzumaki... Little brother please see if you can acquire the materials on this list" Kanami said, her voice a mix of urgency and pride as she handed him a PADD with the specifications for the new warp nasceles.
"Will do sis, need anything else?" Naruto asked, taking the PADD and glancing at the long list of materials.
"Just be careful down there," she reminded him, her voice filled with concern. "And don't forget to grab some Golanian spiced grape juice for me please. You got me addicted to that fruit."
Naruto blushed a bit, the mention of his sister's taste for the exotic drink bringing a smile to his face. "Sure sis," he said, pocketing the PADD. "Ino and I will handle the mission."
Ino nodded eagerly, her eyes alight with the thrill of a new adventure. "We're on it!" she exclaimed, and with a nod to Riker, the two cadets headed for the transport room.
A few hours later both the Konoha and the Enterprise sensors picked up two vessels getting out of warp, the first was the NCC-9754 the U.S.S - Victory, a sleek Constellation-class starship, its hull gleaming in the light of the planet's star. It approached them with purpose, a dry dock trailing behind it like a loyal pet. The dry dock was massive, its metal jaws open and ready to embrace the damaged USS Konoha.
five tugs departed from the dry dock to help the shuttle pods in maneuvering the Konoha into the dry dock's embrace. The sight was nothing short of breathtaking as the tugs worked in unison with the shuttles, their blue tractor beams crisscrossing in the vastness of space. The young cadets watched, their eyes wide with amazement, as the USS Victory, under the command of Captain Marta Batanides, coordinated the delicate operation with the precision of a seasoned ballet dancer.
"Captain Riker we're being hailed by the Victory." Molly, the young comunication officer, announced. Riker nodded, and the screen flickered to life revealing Captain Batanides, her face a mix of curiosity and concern.
"Captain Riker, it's a pleasure to meet you, but care to explain how this old vessel of yours with a bunch of cadets managed to defeat two Borg Vessels?" Captain Batanides inquired, her voice a mix of curiosity and respect.
Riker couldn't help but chuckle at her bluntness. "It's a long story, but it's all thanks to our cadets and their unique blend of ingenuity, fast thinking, skills to improvise and Starfleet training," he replied, gesturing towards the young crew behind him.
The cadets watched as the dry dock's mechanical arms reached out to enclose the USS Konoha, securing it in place. The ship's hull was scarred from the battle, a testament to the fierce encounter they had just survived. But the sight of the gleaming Victory alongside them brought a new wave of excitement.
"Thank you, Captain Batanides," Riker said, his voice carrying over the comm. "We're in good hands with you and your crew."
The docking process was completed without incident, and the USS Konoha was nestled snugly within the embrace of the dry dock. The gangplank connected to the hear airlock, as well as the torpedoe loader tube to load it up with torpedoes. Captain Batanides's engineers boarded the ship, bringing with them an air of confidence and professionalism that could only come from years of experience.
While the repairs were underway, Captain Riker turned to the young cadets, his expression one of pride and gratitude. "You've all done exceptionally well, especially considering the circumstances," he said. "Now, it's time for you to say farewell to the Enterprise-E. They've got their own mission to attend to, and I'm going with them. Starfleet will either send someone to be your captain full time, or one of you will receive a rannk to be it's captain. But technically it's a private vessel so you might become a comissioned vessel in the service of Starfleet."
The cadets nodded solemnly, understanding the gravity of the situation. They knew that their paths might diverge from that of the Enterprise, but the bond forged in battle was one that would never truly break.
As soon as Riker dismiss the cadets, Naruto headed to the engineering to talk with his adopted sister one last time before the Enterprise left. He knew the Enterprise had its own mission to attend and it was time for them to part ways. When he reached the engineering bay, he found Kanami surrounded by a group of engineers, all working tirelessly to repair the damage done by the Borg.
"Hey sis do you have a minute?" Naruto called out to Kanami as he approached the bustling engineering bay.
Kanami looked up from her console, her eyes tired but filled with warmth. "Always for you, little brother," she said, stepping away from the group of engineers.
"I have a gift to you that I'd like for you to always keep with you." Naruto handed over a small, intricately carved wooden box. "It's a piece of Golanian Serendibite, shaped into a tri-pronged kunai."
Kanami took the box with trembling hands, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. She recognized the symbolism immediately; the tri-pronged shape representing their unbreakable bond and their shared heritage. Inside the box lay the gleaming beige grayish metal, its facets reflecting the light of the engineering bay like a miniature star.
"It is to both remember me, as well as a weapon for the rare cases where a phaser is useless like facing against the borg were a blade is more efficient." Naruto said with a small smile, his eyes searching Kanami's for understanding.
Kanami nodded, feeling the weight of the gesture. "Thank you, Naruto," she said, tucking the kunai into her belt. "But, I hope to never have to use it." Though she has a feeling that she will.
