Hey, so I was just going to follow with what I had decided initially of just updating on AO3, then I thought, lets just update it here as well
The Cross academy was relatively a silent place if you don't include the screams that erupted on times of the day, every day. But the Cross academy was special, not because of those screams nope, but because it had students who were not quite human by human standards. Well, we all call them Vampires, yes. Like the ones from the myths? Yup, totally! Those brilliant, charming and bloodsucking womanizers. Don't worry, female vampires also existed. The school was run by Cross Kaien, an ex-hunter (you thought right! Vampire hunters), who had an ideology of establishing peace between the two races. Everything was wonderful in the school, running smoothly; the students too were extremely happy in this school. (Of course they would be! I mean, those delicious candies they got everyday for their eyes)
Wait… said it too soon! There was one particularly unhappy person here now going by the name, Kiryu Zero or as loving dubbed 'Roze' by her adoptive family. She was one of the two (just TWO!) prefects of the academy who were responsible for making sure that the normal human students do not find out about the Vampires. Oh, and she was extremely overworked, tired and sleepless adopted (not) daughter of the headmaster of this very academy. Ah, there she is:
She was so fucking tired and so fucking late to the fucking crossover! God damnit! 'DIE CROSS KAIEN!' she cursed the headmaster in her head as she fumed and almost stomped towards the gates to get the crossover done and over with. She knew she could skip but then that would mean leaving Yuki to the wolves and falling over her own fucking feet. And, well she was like the nicest rude person in her own humble opinion, she couldn't just leave her fellow prefect and adoptive sister helpless and that the show that Yuuki and the rapid girls who showed up at the crossover to moon over the night class, put up was extremely hilarious to pass up on.
She sighed, walking towards the screaming and batshit insane fangirls of Day Class who seems to have made it their lives' mission to blast her sensitive eardrums every fucking day! Honestly, just how the hell do their throats not go sore screaming every day like this?
As she drew closer to the Moon Dormitory, the murmurs and screams got louder, (Note to self- buy some plugs) and she could see her adopted sister, Cross Yuki yelling at the day class girls. Once again, she sighed, 'Like it will work, Yuki. They are thick headed idiots governed by hormones.'
"OKAY, OKAY! EVERYBODY MOVE BACK PLEASE!" Yuki stood over the steps with her arms spread out and was yelling at the girls, "ITS CURFEW FOR EVERBODY IN DAY CLASS! SO JUST GO BACK ALREADY!" she pushed back the girls, well… at least she tried to with her tiny feather-light body. Zero stood by trees, remaining undetected by anyone and watching. She wondered why Yuuki remained polite to these girls when they behaved like this. Zero could never spare the energy on being polite to such idiots.
"DON'T SO BOSSY JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE A PREFECT!"
"YES! YOU CAN'T STOP US!"
"MOVE!"
She almost laughed out loud at the scene, it was so amusing, Yuki at those angry females' mercy. Then there was resounding click, indicating that the gates opening. She sighed yet again, ever since the stupid night class commenced, she has been doing that a hell of a lot.
"AHH! LOOK!"
Though, she hated to admit it, but she couldn't deny that the Night Class students were really, really good looking. So yeah, she could see the day class' fascination with them BUT that doesn't explain their unruly behavior during crossovers!
'1, 2…' she counted in her head, anticipating the daily screams of their 'love' and 'devotion' towards the Night Class. 'And 3'
"kyaaaa!"
"KYAAAAA!"
"IDOL-SENPAI!"
And she covered her ears.
The crowd rushed forwards and pushed Yuki causing her to fall. They moved around, running to greet their favorite Night Class students.
She sighed noticing one extremely annoying blonde baby (he was really not but the way he behaved would really make you question it) vampy aka Aido Hanabusa step out and greet the crazy fan girls, sending them into having another screaming match of, 'Let us see who can screams loudest!'
"Good morning, ladies! Pretty as ever, I see!" Retard….
And chaos ensued. She looked at Yuki and laughed silently. The poor girl was almost run over by the rabid fan girls as they crowd around the Night class. She knew that instead of standing hidden here she should go and help her fellow prefect, but it was too much fun! She couldn't help it, okay!
She watched as the retard continued to humor the girls and Yuki who being approached by her knight in the shining armor Kuran Kaname. 'Looks like I will have to go in.'
She walked deliberately slow, her aura in check and easily passing by the crowd, not wanting to be noticed by either of the classes before she let herself be known, focusing her advanced hearing on Kuran and Yuki, skillfully shutting out the noise, something she learned after the first few times of dealing with these girls.
"Are you okay, Yuki?" she heard him ask with a pleasant smile on his face. "They're always so difficult to manage." She felt more than she saw Yuki's surprise and heard her blurt out his name. "Kaname!" 'Yuki, you idiot, could you be anymore obvious?'
Yuki hurriedly stood up blushing, not noticing the girls stare at her back murderously, 'Yuki, you lovable idiot'. "Yes, I am just fine!" Good god, can't this girl keep her feelings in check and where's her sense danger!? Teenagers! Excluding me!
"You're always so formal with me. It truly makes me sad." He responded with a light chuckle and stood up. "I didn't mean to… it's because you saved my life!" she fidgeted nervously, unable to her gaze at her long-time crush. 'Imma throw up, like three times! Creepy ass pureblood'
Zero groaned quietly, she just never liked this man! Kuran Kaname, he was the Night class representative as well as the dorm president of the Moon Dormitory; but also, the person who saved Yuki's life some ten years ago. For Cross and Yuki, he was Mr. who-could-do-no-wrong and for her, the deceitful, conniving, pompous, egoistic asshole and that was the nicest she would ever describe him. 'I mean sure, he is fucking good-looking but dude's creepy as fuck. Literally, like those guys with mountains of issues who won't admit to having them and then getting fixated on this one innocent looking girl.' Yikes, she's been reading a lot of questionable stories lately, curtsy of one blonde nuisance from night class idiot.
She hurried her steps when she saw him caressing Yuki's head. "Don't worry about that anymore. It happened so long ago." She ripped his hand off Yuki and glared. She. Will. Never. Like. Him!
"The class is starting, Kuran-senpai." The spat at the word was not lost to him as his eyes ever so briefly narrowed before he pulled back his hand and turned away towards the waiting Night class. "You're scaring me, Ms. Prefect." As if! Bastard! Like a seventeen-year-old hunter can scare a pureblood.
She watched the damned Night class leave for their class, that blonde nuisance having the guts to fucking wave at her and Kuran was stopped by a brave day class girl who offered him a beautiful rose. Heh… She sighed for the umpteenth time as the giggling girls ran by. She addressed her adoptive sister, "It's really none of my business how much you suck up to Kuran, but you do know the rules, right?"
Yuki pouted, her blush covering her cheeks and ears. Cute…
"Shut up" she mumbled, "I know already! They're different from the rest of us."
…It's so cold…
Pure-white snow…
Why was it so white? What is this snow?
It's… not supposed to be red. So where was all red coming from…?
Her tiny, gloved hands were covered in snow. She sat in the heavy falling snow; she was so cold…
"Vampires"
There was sound of footsteps approaching her, towering over her small figure stood a man with a deranged smile. "Are you lost, little girl?" her eyes widened in fright as though she knew something bad was about to happen. "If that' the case, can I drink your blood?" with snarl, his lengthened fangs flashing, he grabbed her and forced her head to tilt.
They are….
"STO-"
The man was ripped off her by strong force that tore into him, his blood splattering over her face. It was boy, older than her… but stronger… his hand slashed through the man's neck. He became dust.
"You're a disgrace to all the vampires." He sounded so angered. He licked the blood off his finger, turning towards her silent figure, "Are you okay?"
Blood-drinking monsters who disguise themselves as humans… Vampires exist but most people don't realize it.
My earliest memories began with that snowy day. I don't have any recollection of my past, not even my name. Cross Yuki, Cross Kaien's adopted daughter, first year prefect in the day class, a human.
On that snowy day, she was saved from a vampire by another vampire. What she was doing there all alone, she doesn't remember. Is Yuki her real name, no idea! Did she try to recall her memories at all? Yes, plenty of times. Does she really want to remember? 50-50
She had been brought to Kaien's house by the boy, who'd saved her, Kuran Kaname, shrouded in mystery; he had this strange sadness clinging to his shoulders as though he carried great secrets and the weight of the world. And they had given her a new life, a new identity which she cherished with all her being.
So maybe she didn't actively want to remember her past, perhaps 60-40 then.
Ten years later, here she was at Cross Academy, a first-year prefect responsible for safeguarding the secret of the Night Class from the horny Day Class students alongside her adopted sister (yes, she is) so her dear father's vision of co-existence can come true and maybe because she didn't have much of a choice here. Not that she will ever admit it to her family. (Oh, how she hoped that one day she will have a normal sleeping schedule!)
She turned towards her sister to scream her ear off for being late. AGAIN. But Roze had already turned her attention to the rabid fan girls and just in the nick of time she covered her ears as Roze began her usual spiel of, "LISTEN UP, BRATS! GET THE FUCK BACK TO YOUR DORMS! WHY DO I HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOU RUNNING AROUND SCREAMING, GOING, 'KYA', 'KYA', EVERY DAMN DAY!? WHY!?"
Yuki finally took a long, long sigh of relief. At last, they ran away, back to the dorm. Precious silence blessed silence.
Now, she balled her hand into a fist and punched. Hard
"OW! What the fuck!? That hurts, Yuki!" Roze shot her an incredulous look. She found herself huffing in anger and just as much amusement. "Late, Roze! Again! You were being a sadist and watching the whole damn thing from afar, weren't you!?"
"What?" She scoffed pretending to be offended before an amused smile pulled at her thin pale lips, "Of course, I was! It was hilarious!"
Yuki grumbled and glared at the pale-haired girl, though it had no heat, before she too smiled.
Just another day at the academy!
The night was breezy as the two girls walked back to towards the chairman's office after their daily patrol to report and for Roze, to rant about his stupid decisions. Roze's long silver hair swayed lightly with the wind and they shone in the moonlight. 'They are really beautiful and well maintained. And super fucking long!' Yuki thought after all her sister didn't look like the type to care for such things, but she secretly did, while trying to be very discrete in her staring which she was pretty sure wasn't working on the huntress. Oh well. Whatever, beauty should be admired after all.
Roze had noticed how Yuki kept throwing glances at her. She heaved a sigh, Yuki probably wanted to talk her. "Alright, out with it already!" Yuki jumped, startled. Well, she wasn't sure if she would be able to get away with the question she wanted to ask her. Question to the condition 'ailing' her sister and hadn't that been a shocker to her as her father and sister tried to gently break it down for her.
She giggled nervously, a strange habit which Roze insisted she had picked up for Cross. "Well," she began slowly, peeking up at the taller girl through her lashes as if waiting for her to lash out and walk away.
To which Roze will admit that she does have a bad tendency of doing and also she does apologize after she calms down!
"How have you been lately? You know with…" Yuki asks which is automatically translated in her head to, 'How is your thirst?'
A groan tears out its way from her throat. Not the conversation she was hoping for. "No, Yuki. Just no! I don't want to talk about this with you right now." She says, her head shaking in a firm 'no'.
'This dramatic bitch' Yuki grumpily thought.
"You just called me a bitch in your head, didn't you?"
"How do you always know?" Yuki asked in surprise. "Spidey-senses!" Zero laughed, "They tingle every time someone curses me! And trust me, I get cursed a lot." She exclaimed before walking ahead. "Ha! The day class girls, right?" Zero nodded omnisciently, "Indeed and the night class!" Yuki laughed and quickened her pace to catch up to her sister.
More than ten thousand years ago in a post-apocalyptic world when the civilization on the brink of collapsing, where hope was dying, saw the beginning of the very first experiment of creating enhanced beings by a group of best scientists from every corner, the ones who survived. The beings who could withstand and survive these horrific conditions that they lived in, to bring back human civilization from its near grave and make a fresh start with stronger humans. The barebones of the government that remained had been the ones to put the idea forward, had pressed on it desperately to be considered. Desperate, that's all they were back then.
The team of scientist was put together, contracted to work in absolute secrecy in case they failed. The research was based off on stories and legends of gods, god-like creatures who had perhaps truly walked this land before them. The experiment first done was tentative, without any proof like DNAs or some other genetic material. It was difficult to create something that you have only heard in stories, which were ever changing. But desperateness had them carrying on.
There had been multiple failures, but they did not deter them at all. After all, their survival depended on it. Decades upon decades passed before they could successfully create a truly fascinating creature. They called it a vampire based on the old world's myths, for it survived on blood of their fellow humans, the more it fed on blood, the stronger it became. It adapted, its blood, genes, everything could be adapted to any environments and condition. The creature would present itself to the human eyes as otherworldly beauty to draw them in. Like how a predator attracted its prey. Truly a brilliant creature! Monstrous yet beautiful!
So, they decided they will use the samples taken from the first specimen and try to replicate it, to create more of them. However,
Seven, that was how many of them they were able to make. Just seven! But they proved to be more than enough because their blood and DNA when injected in a human being, it would overwrite the human DNA and blood and replicate itself. It was a slow and painful process. The first few human volunteers did not survive the process; some when injected with the blood had a reaction to it. They became maddened with bloodlust, monstrous even. Incredibly difficult to put down.
If only, they had been more vigilant of what they had created and were creating.
The fallacious peace between the humans and the vampires was built upon a long forgotten and bloodied history. It is without a doubt that there have always been tensions and clashes between the two races, after all the very existence of vampires, creatures of myths and urban legends, was terrifying. Humans have and perhaps forever will oppose their existence; existence of creatures wielding powers unheard of, powers that could easily wipe out whole armies; that human weapons could not hope to counter. Kuran Kaname often ruminated that had the ancestors not attempted to created enhanced being and given time to the world and its inhabitants to heal, perhaps the post-apocalyptic human society would have pulled through without needing these creatures. Truly, he did not consider the vampires a successful creation, but a failed experiment.
Kaname had not loved the time he had been born into and nor did he love this time he had been awakened into. He did not love what he was either, perhaps a long time ago, in his infancy, he had enjoyed the power it got him but even that had long lost its appeal. He had been tired of his existence then and he was tired now.
But he remained, both then and now, for the same two reasons, to stop another large-scale war from breaking out, he could see then, and he can see now, each time they were heading down the same destructive path. And the other reason, he dared not say it out loud.
Kaname suppressed a sigh that tried hard to break through his lips, as he sat in his usual seat, half paying attention to the teacher droning on and half gazing out the class room windows.
