Are you sure?

Jess and Nick were laying on their couch, the credits of the movie they'd just finished watching rolling over the screen in front of them. Nick knew one of them should turn it off but neither of them moved. They were comfortable, with Jess tucked under his chin and one of his arms wrapped around her waist, hand entwined with Jess'. Mario was curled up at the end of couch, his little head resting against Nick's feet.

Nick loved their life. The two of them being married, living in an apartment that was admittedly smaller than the loft which they'd first lived together in, but was theirs, and taking care of their sweet dog together. Their life was amazing.

Yet, despite how happy he was, Nick was beginning to realise that there was something that could make their life more. He and Jess had spoken about it, not long after they got married, but they'd agreed to wait a bit, because they weren't ready. But he also knew his wife enough to know that she was ready now.

When they went out, her eyes would linger longer than usual over any babies or baby related things. She would gush about the fact that Winston and Ally's new baby was due so soon (which Nick still couldn't wrap his mind around because Dan Bill was only just a year old!), more than she ever had about any child. So much was pointing to her being ready to have a baby but he knew she wouldn't say anything unless she thought he was ready too.

And the thing was, as the two of them lay together, basking in the peace of an evening in, he was ready. He was ready to bring life into this world, have someone so tiny be completely dependent on him and watch that someone become a whole person as he and Jess raised them.

"Hey, Jess?" Nick said, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, I know, it's my turn to turn off the TV," Jess sighed. "Just let me lay here for a little longer." Jess snuggled a little closer to his chest.

He gave a little laugh and tightened his arm around her. "Actually not what I was going to say. I just thought that you should know that I'm ready for us to have a kid if you are."

Jess turned her head to look at him over her shoulder, looking a little conflicted. "Are you sure? Because I know I've been hinting that I'm ready but that hasn't been to pressure you, I swear."

Nick smiled, finding himself loving her even more for wanting to be sure that he was sure, and nodded. "I know. I'm sure."

Jess grinned and (awkwardly) turned around in his arms until they were looking at each other face-to-face. "Well then, Miller. We'd better get to work. This baby won't make itself."

Nick laughed loudly as he turned over, pulling Jess on top of him. His kid was going to have the best mother in the world. That was something he had always been sure of.
